My sister and I ate here, We both had beefburgers which was one of the best burgers We have ever had, The food was served after a short wait by a very friendly lady, This pub is very comfortable and I would happily have lunch here with me, my dog and a good book, Thoroughly recommend,

Dropped in or a meal here to see what the venue was like. It’s quite a large pub with off-road parking, 3 separate bar/dining areas, a pool table and dart board. Great place in a good location. The lady behind the bar was friendly, attentive and helpful and the food (we chose the Friday Fish & Chip With a drink for £10.50 offer) was very tasty, well-cooked, plentiful and surprisingly ‘light’ to eat. It came with a with a choice of drinks. It was excellent. The quality of the food was really very good. We also had a chat with the staff who told us all about the live music that has now been introduced to the pub. We will certainly be returning to enjoy one of their events.

Arrived early evening looking forward to the fish and chips offer. We were seated quickly and the waitress was really nice and we ordered drinks and viewed the menu, having all decided what we wanted we ordered but four items out of five we wanted was not available. Not advised at the time we sat down what was not available. I went for the chicken platter at some £12.50. After waiting an hour we were advised that they were busy and short staffed and the cook was not even the chef and didn't really know what she was doing. My chicken breast was smaller than the palm of my hand with some cheap goujons this wait was just not worth it. Manager did give us a drink at the end of our meal but as we left shouted out from behind the bar, thank you and please come back again! I think not!

We went for dinner twice here and enjoyed it both times. My first meal back in England for the first time in 31 years and so of course I had fish and chips. My dad had curry and a beer and enjoyed it. The second time there were four of us and I had the chicken dinner with spicy rice (they aren't joking about the spice). Mum had a hamburger and dad had a taco dinner. All the food was very good and large enough portions. They were doing live music that night which seemed like it would be fun but we left before it started. They did have a television in the dining room showing the Villa champions league match. Bathroom was nice and clean. We chatted with the manager for a while the second night and I recommend stopping in for dinner if you have the chance.

Came down to watch the football which we always used to do when the previous owners had it. We came down when the ownership changed and was put off by being slammed into the games room, due to noise. Decided to give it another shot as it’s our local. Steak was supposed to be medium rare and it was almost well done. Luckily the steak was an ok quality so wasn’t chewy. The fried tacos were awful. Filling was dull and tasted like chemicals. Rice was dry and just covered in cayenne pepper. Corn ribs shouldn’t have the hard core to contend with. Onion rings that came with the steak seemed to have already been cooked then reheated in a fryer - they were inedible. Such a shame for a nice village pub. When simple things are being overlooked. Also £3 for a portion of chips that wouldn’t feed a small child. Atmosphere was great due to the customers. Bar lady on her own. No one to Check on her. And unfortunately she didn’t know what a lager top was! Gutted as it’s our local and we would have liked to have seen it thrive. I don’t think this will be the case!

Friday lunchtime & surprisingly quite empty, selection of ales and cider was poor, all very standard, no local ales. Guest was London Pride, which really is nothing special. Strongbow, £4.35 a pint was reasonable. Staff ok. Pub does do a lot for the local community with Fete's and fundraising but many locals seem to be going elsewhere. Situated on A259 so will attract passing trade and has good size car park.

No one in the pub at 13.00..it was a Thursday altho kids were on holiday and there is a garden but hey… Large menu..anticipated pub grub not homemade which was fine. It came out in about 5 minutes ..and we were both shocked. My southern friend chicken and salad..was basically 4 southern fried chicken nuggets on lettuce, a sliced tomato and a few red onion rings…not a sign of anything like a dressing. Had to ask for mayo etc The fish and chips…the fish had curled up but there was nothing on a third of it, the fish we tasted was dry and chewy..no taste at all and the batter was a horrid dark colour like it had either been fried in old fat or the fish had been refried . We went to leave and explained it was horrible. Chef came out and said he had just fried the fish which he may well have done, but when was it first cooked ! We paid for our drinks and left . Wouldn’t recommend .may be ok for a sandwich . The photos make it look better than it actually was .

This is a local pub which is supposed to serve food but on our visit it appears the chef did not have many of the menu items. Even fish and chips was unavailable! Sad old place with no atmosphere. Unfortunately we'd already been served our drinks before the menu issues were highlighted 🙄 This visit was 3 months ago so maybe they've improved since or changed hands.

THE WHATSHEAF.....SHOULD BE CLOSED and undergo a major upgrading - internally and externally, with review of their business objectives- if the owners and management want this limping business to survive for another 5 years! The staff we interacted with on 23/12/2023- displayed poor awareness of cultivating friendly and welcoming customer interactions. No welcome, no thanks for our custom or goodbye- thanks for coming have a nice Christmas. We were like invisible customers who spent over £60 on drinks! The decor is dated (considerinng this pub underwent rennovation a few years ago.) The furnishing is tacky, poorly displayed, uncomfortable and tables were greasy. No timely cleaning by the staff on duty during our visit. The bar counter was greasy plus used glassess were not always cleared in a timely way. The toilets/wc- smelly and needed deep cleaning. Paper towel rack -empty. Carpet leading from the worn front door entrance- unkempt. The few Christmas decorations inside the pub were tacky and poorly displayed, plus the Christmas lights were not even turned on. Television screens were left on in the two main public areas showing football matches- with no consideration that- maybe not all customers wanted to watch the matches with excessive sounds. When the game was over, the tvs were still left on showing Skysports. By then, most of the people who were watching the match, left the pub. It was almost empty from then on. No heating was on in the pub. No other entertainment was offered. It felt like we walked into a dying village pub. The Wheatsheaf has a premeir monopoly location in Bexhill/Little Common - but we all agreed- drastic business survival action plan is needed to save this pub from definite business failure. That would be a sad loss for Bexhill & Little Common. The challenge for the management, owners and staff is...Will they welcome genuine cutsomer observations/feedback..or will they react defensively?

Booked a meal here to see what the venue was like. It’s quite a large pub with off-road parking, 3 separate bar/dining areas, a pool table and dart board. The interior is looking a little frayed around the edges and could do with a bit of a refurb. The lady behind the bar was friendly, attentive and helpful and the food (we chose the 2 for 1 offer on the Lasagne) was very tasty, well-cooked, plentiful and surprisingly ‘light’ to eat. It came with a lovely salad and garlic bread. It was excellent. The wine, while very nice was pricey. To our surprise (and later, horror) we’d booked on a night when there was what appeared to be a live music event in one part of the bar but couldn’t figure out why it was poorly attended by customers. It turns out it was a guitar-singing event where the participants took it in turns to enthusiastically savage some of my favourite tracks from the 80’s. We listened in, moving through a range of emotions from quiet, hysterical laughter to tears of rage, to wanting to call the music police to start a murder investigation. There should be laws against this sort of thing. The quality of the food really made up for areas of the venue that were a little lacking.

Sitting in the quiet part of the pub in front of the tv. At 11:50pm ready to watch the fire works on New Year’s Eve on the tv.They come over and switch the tv, fully knowing that we were all watching it. I complained to the staff to switch the tv back on and the response was “no we have to turn the TV off” i was furious. How could they possibly do that! That was disgusting behaviour. Wonder why their pub wasn’t busy on New Year’s Eve, very unwelcoming! Will never return again. This was a lovely pub with the pervious owners, it’s a shame now.

First time we came here, it was great. Really nice guy behind the bar. Friendly, helpful. Food was good. Drinks were alright. Pool table and dart board there is decent too. Really great experience. Second time there. Not great. Lady behind the bar really couldn't be bothered. Looked miserable and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Said we could order food but only a limited menu as the chef wasn't in and the lady didn't want to cook many things. So we said about a burger and then was told we could only order the basic and if we wanted to order it had to be right there and then as the lady didn't want to cook for much longer. The general atmosphere was completely different this time. We decided not to order food as we guessed that the lady in the kitchen would probably not cook it well as she obviously couldn't be arsed. We would come here again but would probably leave if the same staff were on. The guy with the beard is definitely a member of staff that should have praise. I go to this pub a couple of times a week, so I'm pretty used to the warm welcome which was extended to visiting relatives. Beers were spot on as usual and we ordered food which looked appetising and proved to be tasty too. Thick cut chips were a particular hit! I've also been in for just a beer some Sunday lunchtimes, but I've seen they have a large family dining room where diners can enjoy their roasts while being serenaded with all the popular hits.....

Very disappointing. Sadly have to give a star. Limited spaces, small screens and poor service

As always, a wonderful welcome to me, my partner and our dog. Lovely roast dinner with all the trimmings, great atmosphere and a lovely singer doing oldies but goodies and requests. Yummy pudding too.

Often visited Battle but this was our 1st visit to The Chequers. Absolutely great discovery! So many delicious choices for breakfast - tasted brilliant! All so good we had to return for a late lunch before we left for home. Friendly staff, excellent service and fabulous food. A great find and we will definitely be back.

A proper cosy old fashioned local pub. It's nice to have three veggie main meals on the menu without resorting to mac cheese or curry which are the standbys elsewhere.

We booked The Gallivant back in July for our wedding anniversary but had to move the date to October due to personal circumstances. All the way through staff were very accommodating and were only too helpful in helping change the date and ensure we were rebooked for the room, dinner and morning yoga. Communication at all times was fantastic!! So we at last stayed at The Gallivant and wow what an experience!! On arrival the staff were so welcoming, booking us in and showing us round the place. The shared spaces, such as the bar the reading room and restaurant are completed to a really high standard and the bedroom was really comfortable with a fantastic shower!! Pre dinner we enjoyed a few glasses of lovely English wines and then had an excellent two course meal which was cooked to perfection! We slept really well in a really cosy comfortable bed and woke to a relaxing yoga class with Katie followed by one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Real shame we only had the one night… I could have easily stayed all weekend. Thanks to all the Gallivant staff for making our stay so memorable!! What a wonderful experience!!

Lovely little pub, nice food, great service. Not a gastro pub though and location is only convenient if you're driving or are based somewhere really local. Food was good, Guiness not so good (watery and way more bitter than usual), wine was lovely. Nice play area to keep the kids entertained.
