A proper cosy old fashioned local pub. It's nice to have three veggie main meals on the menu without resorting to mac cheese or curry which are the standbys elsewhere.

We visited on a tuesday in October . What a lovely find . The barman was very welcoming and gave great service . The menu was new, and we both decided to try the rib sticking ' Bacon and onion roly poly ' served with mash and peas 🤤 . Being in our late 50's , early 60's , it truly was a tasty homemade meal . Great value food . I had a pot of tea , the barman later said it was only £1 as they like to create a warm space for people to take time in . It's bigger inside than you think , with plenty of space and board games / books to take advantage of . We shall be returning when we next visit Rye , and living in Hastings, it will be sooner rather than later .

Fantastic service, very friendly. The food was excellent plus very reasonable priced. Back ground music was just that back ground music ( blues music)so you could have a conversation without having to speak louder. I can honestly say it's been a while since I have been into a pub where I will look forward to returning. Unfortunately we are on holiday here and live too far to make it my local but we have already recommended this pub to other camping and caravan club members when in this area. Well done for all your hard work.

We were initially attracted by the pubs exterior A beautiful old tavern set in the glorious town of Rye. On arrival we ask for our lunch which comprises of home made asparagus soup with warm baguettes and a home made pate with a side salad. This took over 30mins to arrive...we recieved the meal in the court yard. The bar tender served the meal. The pate was surrounded by mouldy lettuce and a wiltered few rocket leaves 4 cherry tomatoes a pickled gherkin and a slice of raw red onion. I asked the bar tender to return the mouldy lettuce With fresh with this I was asked if I wanted a refund for the said meal. The 'home made asparagus soup' looked like something a dog might turn its nose up too. I am a travelling guest through the town of rye and I'm disgusted at how myself and my husband were treated by the staff at the queens head. I was asked if I was 'local' and if I had been I would of known that this is a cheap pub to eat in. We paid well over £20 for a lunch that I wouldn't serve to a hungry dog. Great fully recieved our money back. Disgusting dissatisfied dish water.

Came for an evening meal on 13th November, the menu was very limited and we were told that only chunky chips were available with the main meals. I ordered the pork loin with mustard sauce and baby spinach. When the meal arrived it was not what I expected - it was a pork loin CHOP which was obviously fried and the oil was also on the plate - so a big puddle of oil, small-ish chop, a mustard sauce which looked like it came out of a packet, chunky chips, and few leaves of baby spinach. The chips were ok, the rest was not. I finished the meal, and did share my feedback with the person who served us, who said he'll pass it onto the kitchen. Normally the kitchen would acknowledge the feedback and perhaps apologize or offer a discount - but nothing happened. Overall very disappointed with the meal and lack of customer service.

This is a very quirky pub that I didn’t personally warm to. But it has a good rep locally, especially for its standard pub grub, and a lot of people like it, so perhaps the problem was that there were not many people in on this early bank holiday lunchtime and I wasn’t eating. Maybe it has a different vibe when there’s a crowd in of an evening. You enter onto the front section of a U shaped bar. To the right is a slightly elevated section dominated by a pool table with some standard keg fonts. The the lounge area is to the left section of the bar which has four hand pumps on it at the far end. For the record only two of these were in operation with Lakedown Brewing Sussex Pale and Lister’s Brewery Happy Hound. I tried both and they were in good condition, but I was surprised by the Listers Happy Hound that was described as a traditional session ale on the pump clip and turned out to be a dark mild. It’s in this section to the left that the fun starts decor wise. I would say that the chosen decor style is junk shop / reclaimed skip. I’m sure other more knowledgeable people than me will have a more accurate description for the eclectic mix of furniture and artwork that abounds in this place. To me it just seemed to be a competition to see how many different seating styles and table styles you can fit in one pub. For example I chose to sit by the window and my table was made out of a lump of concrete that had a lump knocked out of it so that you could see the reinforcement wires and that the concrete was inlaid with coloured stones. I just sat there thinking why ?. But this side of the pub keeps on giving and has a full on Tardis effect. As well as the front and back sections on the left hand side ( with a smallish courtyard garden beyond these), there is what looks like a further room between them. However, you enter to find that it turns right into a corridor with a doctors library effect going on ( including a medical skeleton) that after a while leads to a Tudor effect dining area with gable ceiling. And here again, the game seems to be how many different types of dining chair can you fit in one space. To be fair this type a junk / antique style is the same as employed in the Waterworks micropub further down the road. But whereas there it seems to fit and work, here I just got the feeling I had gate crashed a hippy commune.

We went here for dinner mid weekhaving arrived in the area a couple of hours earlier for a long weekend. Our first time in Rye so we didn’t know anywhere and this looked a reasonable pub, online reviews weren’t too bad either. Was clearly an off night. We asked what Ales they had on and were told none. We asked what Ciders they had on tap and were told none! Normally at this point we would have turned and left but it was getting late, we were hungry and never having been to the area before we didn’t know where else to go. They had a couple of Lagers on and Guinness so my partner asked for a pint of Guinness, it was not too bad to be honest. I asked for a Cranberry juice and Soda which tasted most peculiar and not at all nice, when I queried it the barperson said oh sorry I put Tonic in instead of soda (I hate the taste of tonic) I then waited 20 minutes for my drink to be replaced as they had to go out to the local shop to buy some soda water! We ordered food which again took a fair while to arrive. Mine was really nice - I had one of the specials - Fresh baked Mackerel with smashed new potatoes, tomatoes and spinach. My partner had the Spaghetti Bolognaise which was really dry, the meat was in dry clumps and there was barely any sauce. He had to ask for tomato ketchup to add to it to make it edible as there was apparently no sauce available to go with it, “that’s how it comes”. The funniest bit was when my partner went to pick up his glass to take a drink and it was stuck firm to the extremely sticky table surface. The bar top was also very sticky ( a pet hate of mine). On the tables were glass milk bottles with past their best fresh flowers in stagnant dirty water in an attempt to brighten the place up. All in all a very disappointing experience which we won’t be repeating.

We ended up having dinner here on Saturday night. The Queens Head gives the impression of an old school spit and sawdust pub but has real vibe and bohemia once inside. We've been here before, last year and really enjoyed the fish and chips - better than the local fish and chip shop! So we decided to go back but unfortunately the menu has changed. The food was great! I'm warning you though, if you have a starter or share the baked camembert starter, you probably won't want a big main! I thought I was safe after the starter with a French style burger and fries but I was wrong. The burger was also stacked with camembert cheese! Waaaaay too much food and I'm a big guy that enjoys my food. Can't fault the food, piping hot and delicious. Service was friendly and polite. I just don't think it deserved more than 3 stars, not because anything was really wrong. Well, despite the lack of alcohol being available, the seating wasn't great or comfy for a sit down meal. It was just pretty average... Something we did enjoy was a local group practicing on their ukuleles and singing some old classics until about half 9. There's a pool table, some big comfy arm chairs for relaxing while drinking and socialising.

The Queen's head Rye. What can I say. Three landpeople, all extremely pleasant and very good at their various roles. The customers range from 19-20 year olds to the elderly couple and everything in-between. All of the social classes are here and all of them seem to be decent and friendly. Then the food. Perhaps the only minor criticism is the extent of the menu, however, , although limited, what they do serve covers all the usual dietary needs and is cooked wonderfully with the usual busy, but cheerful staff making every effort to help you enjoy the evening. The pub itself covers all tastes, with nooks and crannies inside and out, where the two courtyard gardens make the warmer months even more enjoyable. Rye is the most amazing town and The Queen's epitomises everything that is varied and wonderful about it. And it is by the sea, what more could you want.

We booked The Gallivant back in July for our wedding anniversary but had to move the date to October due to personal circumstances. All the way through staff were very accommodating and were only too helpful in helping change the date and ensure we were rebooked for the room, dinner and morning yoga. Communication at all times was fantastic!! So we at last stayed at The Gallivant and wow what an experience!! On arrival the staff were so welcoming, booking us in and showing us round the place. The shared spaces, such as the bar the reading room and restaurant are completed to a really high standard and the bedroom was really comfortable with a fantastic shower!! Pre dinner we enjoyed a few glasses of lovely English wines and then had an excellent two course meal which was cooked to perfection! We slept really well in a really cosy comfortable bed and woke to a relaxing yoga class with Katie followed by one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Real shame we only had the one night… I could have easily stayed all weekend. Thanks to all the Gallivant staff for making our stay so memorable!! What a wonderful experience!!

Lovely little pub, nice food, great service. Not a gastro pub though and location is only convenient if you're driving or are based somewhere really local. Food was good, Guiness not so good (watery and way more bitter than usual), wine was lovely. Nice play area to keep the kids entertained.
