Absolutely cannot fault the staff, they were lovely, attentive and helpful. We found the decor to be very strange, and a lot of the dining chairs are very tatty and ripped, could do with a refurb. The pork belly bites were not great, there were a few bits that were literally just lumps of fat on their own and then the rest of the meat was dry, they were also not particularly hot, however the burgers were fantastic.

Popped on to The Squirrel Inn whilst on a casual drive out and thought we would pop in and see if they could accommodate us. We were welcomed in and seated immediately. Staff are very polite and friendly. The Food was delicious 😋. We had the lamb cofte and it was melt in the mouth. Puddings were delicious too. Nice decor and some great art works too. All in all we will be back and will spread the good word.

We've not been to the Squirrel for years but stopped in with some visiting family on Saturday hoping we'd be able to eat. Google was clear that the kitchen wouldn't be open just yet but we received a friendly welcome and they put drinks on the tab for the meal so we could pay all at once. As soon as the kitchen was open the lovely guy was there to take our order. We didn't wait long at all and we're asked if we wanted more drinks at the table. I did! The kicking goat cider was really nice! We ordered a fish basket, a belly pork, a chicken burger and a beef burger. 4 empty plates, 4 very satisfied customers. Felt really comfortable and welcoming and will definitely go again soon! I think it was £108 for four of us including drinks which was really reasonable for what we had. We didn't have room for dessert though 🤣

I took my granddaughter to the squirrel inn for lunch today, 1st April. It was very good and the staff were wonderful but the bill was way overpriced. We each had a chicken burger and my granddaughter had half a pint of diet coke and I had a cranberry juice. The bill was over £51. which is absolutely disgraceful, we won't be back.

The lady who served us was excellent and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food however was dreadful, we were the only 2 eating in there and my order was wrong. I didn't want to make a fuss so I kept it but the chicken was so tough I couldn't even cut it up. It felt like a frozen chicken breast that was cooked quickly. The male bartender was rude and said i was just moaning because I'd ordered the wrong thing and we over heard that. Would thoroughly avoid. My partner's roast tasted frozen too. Terrible experience .

Mediocre at best! The atmosphere was awful and stale, don’t expect to be near the fire as it’s tucked away in the corner of the bar and could not be further away from where you sit to eat. To start we ordered a baked Camembert to share and it arrived with 2 slices of toasted sandwich bread which I have never seen in my life before, for £13 I expect at least some rustic bread. The main meal was flavourless with everything jammed on the plate like a school canteen. The food just is not worth the money and there are many other local pubs that you would be better off visiting. At the point of paying we were met with a 10% service charge added on our bill for a table of three on a tuesday night. All whilst having 15% off vouchers rammed down our throats needless to say we won’t be using them. All in all I can’t believe there are so many good reviews of this place, it needs some effort put into it!

The Squirrel Inn, Battle – 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, a gallery of glowing reviews and tempting photos. Surely a culinary gem, right? WRONG. What awaited us for our 1pm pre-booked table on a chilly Sunday in January was more sitcom than fine dining. From the outset, it was... unique. A static caravan perched on a hill beside the car park set the tone. But, seeing the car park bustling with cars, we thought, "Ah, must be good if it's this busy!" Spoiler alert: this theory does not hold water. Stepping inside, we were greeted by a smell that can only be described as Eau de Residential Home. Not exactly the warm, homely roast aroma we’d hoped for. Credit where it’s due, though – the staff were cheery and welcoming, and the toilets were spotless. A glimmer of hope, perhaps? Oh, how wrong we were. The menu sounded promising, with a decent variety of roast meats on offer. We optimistically ordered a lamb roast and a beef roast, bracing ourselves for a hearty Sunday lunch. What arrived can only be described as culinary betrayal. The lamb looked like an extra from a kebab van – greasy, fatty, and unrecognisable as anything you’d serve with mint sauce. Meanwhile, the beef was so undercooked it was practically still mooing. The Yorkshire puddings were a marvel of modern engineering – hard as bricks and equally as lethal. The “medley of vegetables” (if you could call it that) had the unmistakable charm of a budget steam bag – bland, crunchy, and entirely forgettable. Then there was the red cabbage, which tasted like someone had boiled regret. The roast potatoes appeared to have been reheated, and the gravy – delivered in stainless steel pots reminiscent of a greasy spoon café – did little to redeem things. To add insult to injury, the mint and horseradish sauces arrived in sachets. Sachets. For a £15 roast dinner. At that point, I half expected a side of plastic cutlery to really seal the deal. Nothing about this meal screamed “homemade.” It felt like we were eating the remnants of a pre-packaged roast dinner assembly line. By the end, we’d spent £77 on two basic starters, three drinks, and two laughably bad roast dinners. We managed to endure 50 minutes before escaping, poorer in both wallet and spirit. The only saving grace? The staff, who remained friendly and polite throughout. It’s such a shame they’re let down by the food. My advice: save yourself the disappointment – unless, of course, you’re in the mood for comedy at the cost of your appetite!

A very pleasant venue for our Christmas lunch. The portions were not large but not tiny either, and the food was delicious. We ordered from the Christmas set menu, and I did see dishes from the main menu being served to other diners that were larger so maybe the Christmas menu was not representative of the normal portion size. What impressed me was the service, both the cheery and helpful disposition of the servers, and the excellent organisation with which they managed to correctly divide our bill by paying group and apply our deposits paid weeks before, etc. Very impressive. Prices feel high but are commensurate with similar venues...I guess it just costs that much to eat out now. But if you can do anything on them it will help your guests, including me when I hopefully return one day!

Overpriced and disappointing. Came with a group and all meals pre selected. Slow Braised Pevensey Lamb in its own rosemary & thyme infused stock topped with buttered sliced potatoes & a medley of winter vegetable turned out to be a very small portion of lamb hotpot, no accompanying veg. About what you would expect from a supermarket value ready meal. Salmon served with Saffron potatoes, salmon was lovely, mash was tasteless and clearly prepared well in advance, completely tasteless. 2nd time we've been here this year and certainly won't bother again. Used to be a cracking family pub, but now not worth a bean.

My wife and I visited The Squirrel Inn for the first time earlier this week and we were impressed. The purpose of the visit was dinner. Both of us are vegetarians and the menu offered a few very good veggie options. The food was a delight and decent value for money. The Pub itself is very pleasant. It has a lot of outside space which will be good once spring returns! At this time of year, however, their roaring fire is very welcome. As you can probably guess, I would definitely recommend the squirrel for dinner. Before signing off though, I think the staff deserve a mention. Lauren was running the bar and Daisy was waiting. They are a very good advert for the Squirrel. Given it was a wet Thursday they were pretty busy, but the two of them worked hard with both professionalism and a sense of humour.

Went on a Sunday lunchtime, pre-booked family of 5. Arrived & seated in plastic covered lean to, but no menus… after a while drinks orders were taken & menus arrived… drinks arrived fairly quickly, but long wait for orders to be taken… Roasts were average pub size servings, ham, egg & chips came with bread & butter, but the egg whites were undercooked and raw… plus child’s pizza, which for a child’s meal was a fairly large portion with chips included…. Raw eggs were definitely a turn off, and service fairly slow… but it was a Sunday and they were busy. Prices above average for the area & 10% surcharge added to the bill, which is noted at foot of the menu… Parking is horrendous when busy as cars park on the main road so visibility is poor to non-existent on trying to exit the carpark… I doubt I’ll be returning after being served half raw eggs and two hours in total…

The food is amazing…well done to the chef. The waitress was really sweet and helpful. When we first walked in there was an older gentleman behind the bar who seemed quite gruff. He didn’t speak to us when we entered with any form of friendly greeting or even smile although he was quite aware we were there, and our first point of contact with anyone in your establishment .I found this let your restaurant down as everyone else was lovely.Maybe a little retraining would help with this gentleman and then everything would have scored a perfect 5 stars. I have actually worked in hospitality for many years and definitely would have appreciated someone letting me know if there maybe a retraining issue needed to help my business. I hope you see this as constructive criticism as everyone else gave us such a lovely lunch.

Made to feel unwelcome. We arrived approx 30 minutes before opening on a Sunday lunch time after a dog walk. We were instantly greeted with "Have you booked?" Then told us they were closed and we couldn't order yet. The landlord didn't strike me as the friendliest and there seemed a bit of an atmosphere. So we took a seat in the garden and waited. I let my dog off the lead on the grass as there was no one else around, in the hope of tiring him out so he would settle down when the pub opened. A waitress immediately came over and told me that I had to put my dog on the lead. When they did finally open, we ordered drinks and a bowl of chips. We were told that the chips would be ready in 15 minutes and we had to return to the bar to collect them. We had been sat down at our table for no more than 5 minutes when a waitress came over with our chips and said she didn't want them getting cold. She seemed narked with us. Weird attitude to have! The chips were nothing special - Straight from the freezer. Won't bother returning and would suggest continue driving straight past that pub and find yourselves somewhere much more welcoming.

I visited here with my 2 boys on route back to our campsite nearby. We were greeted with a really warm welcome by the landlady and bar maid who informed us that yes children are allowed and yes dinner serving will start soon. Wahoo! We sat outside under the canopy which was lovely. There is a play area for children laid to grass for ball games and a small swing/climbing frame combo, although, this did appear to need a bit of tlc as some parts were loose or broken, hence the mark down to 4 instead of 5, although, this didn't stop it being used. The atmosphere of this pub was lovely, nice and relaxing and people coming in chatting and some with dogs (although we did catch one lady with her small dog walk out of the pub to the garden and had let it poo on the mat outside!) The food was delicious, couldn't fault it, however, this pub was a little on the expensive side compared to other pubs we have eaten in. All in all, we had a lovely visit, good food and walked away with happy, full belly's and smiles on our faces.

Obviously kept going by passing trade as not somewhere you would go back to. Roast of the day was beef, which was very fatty so most of it was inedible, sides and veg were good. Chicken burger was a full chicken breast (great!) coated in loads of seasoning but still somehow managed to me fairly tasteless. Childs fish and chips was good, made from proper fish. When anyone ordered water they directed to a “water station” - self service water vat with disposable plastic cups. Staff were very friendly.

Where do I start, I have visited this pub on a number of occasions over the years but felt after a visit today I had to write a review. The Squirrel Inn team provide such a warm friendly atmosphere as you walk through the door and look out for you with a rope to prevent you falling down the step. If you are mobility impaired they also have a suitable route for you to gain access so have considered accessibility needs of their customers. The menu offering are good and the roast I had was the best I have had. One thing I liked about the menu too was the fact you could choice up-to 2 meats for the standard price (or just double up on one) but they offer the option if you like a variety of meats to pay a little more for 3 or all 4. They also use some ingredients grown on site and have a love garden which is a massive bonus, with a herbs section too which they use in their meals. Dessert menu had plenty of choices too. The staff were brilliant and really knew how to work together as a team and this was great to see. Teamwork to this level is something I have rarely seen so well displayed. We did speak to the owner who was also a friendly gentleman who I wish him and his team all the best for the future. Definitely one I will be returning to.

Not many places do it, and fewer do it well. The Squirrel does it very well. I didn't have a starter, my partner had sticky pork belly bites which were delicious. I had an extra pale ale which was excellent and my partner a G&T with juniper berries, unusual and good. The service was great, friendly and helpful staff. It was a very hot day, and sitting outside in the roofed off area with a cool breeze was lovely. Pub food prices for restaurant quality food, can't go wrong.

First time at this really nice pub! I imagine it to be really cosy in Winter but we were outside on a beautiful day. The food was really good! Not always easy with a large party, which we were! Really nice service, and beautifully clean and nicely presented! There is a sign just along the road which says 'you have just passed a great pub' - and it is!

Fantastic fathers day Sunday Lunch. The staff were brilliant coping with a table of 13 and the food was superb

We've been driving past this pub for years and finally stopped and ate there on Saturday night. The food was outstanding, including the gluten free roast, the beer on tap was great too. We will be back.

Father's Day. Staff on since 0630. We arrived 2.15pm, 45 minutes early. We were made welcome and a table found within 10 minutes. Order taken 10 minutes later and food arrived 10 minutes after that. We had Sunday roast, it was delicious, one of the best we've had. Service was friendly and efficient. Found by chance, but will return. Well worth a detour. Thanks to all. K Delaney.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially as we had 2 young kids; they went out of their way to help. Would definitely recommend to anyone, especially to families.

A little disappointed 😞 not a quaint country pub at all! Seating more like a dining hall. Staff very good, food was average. Nothing special to write about , but 10% service charge on a table for 2 midweek is a little off putting. We won't return sadly.

My mum’s birthday - six of us went on a Thursday evening. Great service, nice food, well priced. There were enough people to make an atmosphere, but no so many that it became loud or slowed service.

Food generally good but my father had to send back his whitebait because they had only half cooked (and would have been far better if cooked in batter like every other restaurant does them).

Popped in, used the ladies and got thrown out as using cubicle at same time as gal pal?!!!! Why?! Girls use the toilet together all the time - what an absolute stupid pub, I have been coming in for years but since changing hands it is an absolute dive. The managerial staff and bar staff who are incredibly rude, outing people for a normal night out. Tried here as only dancing area in Bexhill, but won’t make that that mistake again as what a waste of time not even worth a dance let alone a good time- stupid absolute disaster of a bar won’t be wasing my money in this bar again ever!

Under new management and the best Sunday buffet for miles. We've been to them all and none have such varied and fresh food to enjoy! Particularly enjoyed the mango and avocado salad and the lamb curry. Food delicious, customer service fantastic. Thank you 😊 definitely will be a "regular" from now on!

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.
