We bumped into this beautiful pub whilst away on business. Very grateful we did. A fantastic pub with friendly staff and frankly outstanding food. Gammon egg and chips was everything you’d want, A salty thick slab of beautiful gammon with perfect eggs and crispy chips. The pie was increíble- a generous slab of (surely) homemade shortcrust pasty, chicken, ham and leek pie with chips, veg and gravy. Deep filled is an understatement! Couldn’t recommend more- a big thanks to Nikki and the staff.

at the Squirrel. Five of us went for dinner, welcomed by the staff and invited to have a drink whilst our table was prepared. The staff were very nice, polite and accommodating. Our table had plenty of room, nice ambiance in the restaurant and our waiter was extremely professional. The food was amazing, very hot and plenty of it. Cost around £180 for 5, 2 courses & a round of drinks. Highly recommended, give it a go 😊

Went on a Sunday lunchtime, pre-booked family of 5. Arrived & seated in plastic covered lean to, but no menus… after a while drinks orders were taken & menus arrived… drinks arrived fairly quickly, but long wait for orders to be taken… Roasts were average pub size servings, ham, egg & chips came with bread & butter, but the egg whites were undercooked and raw… plus child’s pizza, which for a child’s meal was a fairly large portion with chips included…. Raw eggs were definitely a turn off, and service fairly slow… but it was a Sunday and they were busy. Prices above average for the area & 10% surcharge added to the bill, which is noted at foot of the menu… Parking is horrendous when busy as cars park on the main road so visibility is poor to non-existent on trying to exit the carpark… I doubt I’ll be returning after being served half raw eggs and two hours in total…

The food is amazing…well done to the chef. The waitress was really sweet and helpful. When we first walked in there was an older gentleman behind the bar who seemed quite gruff. He didn’t speak to us when we entered with any form of friendly greeting or even smile although he was quite aware we were there, and our first point of contact with anyone in your establishment .I found this let your restaurant down as everyone else was lovely.Maybe a little retraining would help with this gentleman and then everything would have scored a perfect 5 stars. I have actually worked in hospitality for many years and definitely would have appreciated someone letting me know if there maybe a retraining issue needed to help my business. I hope you see this as constructive criticism as everyone else gave us such a lovely lunch.

Made to feel unwelcome. We arrived approx 30 minutes before opening on a Sunday lunch time after a dog walk. We were instantly greeted with "Have you booked?" Then told us they were closed and we couldn't order yet. The landlord didn't strike me as the friendliest and there seemed a bit of an atmosphere. So we took a seat in the garden and waited. I let my dog off the lead on the grass as there was no one else around, in the hope of tiring him out so he would settle down when the pub opened. A waitress immediately came over and told me that I had to put my dog on the lead. When they did finally open, we ordered drinks and a bowl of chips. We were told that the chips would be ready in 15 minutes and we had to return to the bar to collect them. We had been sat down at our table for no more than 5 minutes when a waitress came over with our chips and said she didn't want them getting cold. She seemed narked with us. Weird attitude to have! The chips were nothing special - Straight from the freezer. Won't bother returning and would suggest continue driving straight past that pub and find yourselves somewhere much more welcoming.

I visited here with my 2 boys on route back to our campsite nearby. We were greeted with a really warm welcome by the landlady and bar maid who informed us that yes children are allowed and yes dinner serving will start soon. Wahoo! We sat outside under the canopy which was lovely. There is a play area for children laid to grass for ball games and a small swing/climbing frame combo, although, this did appear to need a bit of tlc as some parts were loose or broken, hence the mark down to 4 instead of 5, although, this didn't stop it being used. The atmosphere of this pub was lovely, nice and relaxing and people coming in chatting and some with dogs (although we did catch one lady with her small dog walk out of the pub to the garden and had let it poo on the mat outside!) The food was delicious, couldn't fault it, however, this pub was a little on the expensive side compared to other pubs we have eaten in. All in all, we had a lovely visit, good food and walked away with happy, full belly's and smiles on our faces.

Obviously kept going by passing trade as not somewhere you would go back to. Roast of the day was beef, which was very fatty so most of it was inedible, sides and veg were good. Chicken burger was a full chicken breast (great!) coated in loads of seasoning but still somehow managed to me fairly tasteless. Childs fish and chips was good, made from proper fish. When anyone ordered water they directed to a “water station” - self service water vat with disposable plastic cups. Staff were very friendly.

The sign says “ slow down, stop, don’t miss a great pub” . If you do then you are initially asked if you have a booking and if not, there may be a wait for food. ‘ Walk ins’ appear to be a stress. Having said that the beef burger was really good and priced at £17 which isn’t bad in these times. Cheese, bacon, Onion rings, a tasty salad and fries. Just need to get that initial greet sorted out. .

Where do I start, I have visited this pub on a number of occasions over the years but felt after a visit today I had to write a review. The Squirrel Inn team provide such a warm friendly atmosphere as you walk through the door and look out for you with a rope to prevent you falling down the step. If you are mobility impaired they also have a suitable route for you to gain access so have considered accessibility needs of their customers. The menu offering are good and the roast I had was the best I have had. One thing I liked about the menu too was the fact you could choice up-to 2 meats for the standard price (or just double up on one) but they offer the option if you like a variety of meats to pay a little more for 3 or all 4. They also use some ingredients grown on site and have a love garden which is a massive bonus, with a herbs section too which they use in their meals. Dessert menu had plenty of choices too. The staff were brilliant and really knew how to work together as a team and this was great to see. Teamwork to this level is something I have rarely seen so well displayed. We did speak to the owner who was also a friendly gentleman who I wish him and his team all the best for the future. Definitely one I will be returning to.

Came early as they're often fully booked. Maybe that's just weekends, it was fairly quiet this evening. Been a while since we've been in battle and couldn't wait to have liver and bacon again. Not many places do it, and fewer do it well. The Squirrel does it very well. I didn't have a starter, my partner had sticky pork belly bites which were delicious. I had an extra pale ale which was excellent and my partner a G&T with juniper berries, unusual and good. The service was great, friendly and helpful staff. It was a very hot day, and sitting outside in the roofed off area with a cool breeze was lovely. Pub food prices for restaurant quality food, can't go wrong.

I returned on the following Monday with my wife and children. Once again, everything was excellent. The Squirrel smokie (smoked haddock in a cheese sauce with a poached egg) was a great dish. This used to be our 'go-to' restaurant, but sadly has lost our custom. We had one poor experience there last year and decided to try it again to give it another chance as it could have been a bad night. Visited several months ago - We reserved a place for early dinner with friends who had been there before. After being seated, we were rushed, asked us to order right away, told they expected to be full and they would need the table. Sub-par ingredients, apple sauce missing from the dish I ordered so I requested it. A small amount was provided, however it wasn't apple sauce, it was sweet sticky apple pie type filling. Everyone in our party was underwhelmed with the food. We left in 90 minutes and only one party had arrived, they were seated adjacent to us in spite of all the space available. Not a pleasant visit for a relaxing meal with friends. People who we had previously recommended to eat there have mentioned similar circumstances. The man who spoke to us about how full they were with bookings was borderline rude. How sad that one of our long standing favourites has become a disappointment.

UBER delivery of calvery roast and desert 👌 Sat on a Friday mid/late evening and decided a Sunday Roast and desert treat. I estimate for me to drive is 10 minutes away, it was delivered 12 minutes later. It was hot, there was so much portion both meal and desert, confidently packaged so I could eat straight away, I had my ordered gravy and extra Union gravy (no charge) the meats cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes crunchy, the veg cooked to perfection, that moderate hint of crunch so not steamed to death. The desert was simply perfection, the portion huge. So yes if you take into account the tip, user charge etc, you looking at a sit down on the premises food price, but let me tell you, I can cook, and if I put that on the table I would think I'd swam the channel. Superb service well done all the staff at the Squirrel. I order regularly and 99% of the time I would leave this same review, even when not quite on point which is super rare I finish having zero regrets I've ordered such is the quality from the Squirrel 👌

We were on a short break a few miles away and visited The Squirrel as the notes in our holiday cottage indicated it was wheelchair accessible, which is critical for us. Went for dinner, big portions of high quality food at a more than reasonable price. Very friendly staff and we were so impressed we immediately booked for lunch a few days later and that was equally excellent. This place is a rare gem and locals are so lucky to have it.

Eleven of us met yesterday at a large family reunion. We had a lavish lunch and stayed quite a long time. We were well looked after by the staff and we ate lavishly. Indeed the portion sizes were huge. The food was nicely presented and the staff were attentive and pleasant.

Very well looked after, very attentive waitresses and offered me a veg alternative when I asked for a menu dish without the meat on it. Having worked in the pub 20 years ago nice to go back.

Had a booking for 2pm for a family of 4 but were unable to park anywhere remotely close to the place as there were cars and vans everywhere. What made it harder was the fact that parking on the verge blocked visibility getting out onto a fast moving road. Very disappointed

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

This restaurant was empty apart from us on a Saturday evening, could be the 70s decor thats putting off a lot of customers.

I’m relieved to see this establishment has closed its doors. My experience there was one of the worst I've ever encountered, especially considering I live in the area and never expected to face such blatant racism in my own community. The owners, Jimmy and Carol, were never friendly right from the start, and it's astonishing that they managed to operate this restaurant for so long. I had often walked past it without giving it much thought, but this time I was with a few friends and thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, the way we were treated was nothing short of appalling. We stood in the middle of the dining area for at least 15 minutes without even a greeting. It’s hard to believe they could miss us, as there were four of us waiting. The waitstaff glanced at us several times but never made the effort to approach. I can’t help but wonder if our Asian descent played a role in their indifference. Despite the available seating, we chose to wait out of respect. I sincerely hope they never reopen a restaurant. If they do, I hope they learn a valuable lesson in customer service.
