This restaurant was empty apart from us on a Saturday evening, could be the 70s decor thats putting off a lot of customers.

Good food and staff very friendly. But so very quiet for a weekend evening. The food was hot. And no complaints at all. Very nice

It looks closed and old fashioned (which it is) but the food is the best. I think it is a family run business and if it was updated would be the "go to Chinese" for Bexhill. As it is we discovered it by accident when hungry and now eat here regularly and collect our take away from them.

Worse than average food Wouldn’t go there again. I was there in an empty restaurant on a Friday night from 0615 until 2200 spent £40.00, should have had a takeaway from somewhere else. Oh well....

Just a traditional Chinese restaurant. Dishes were well made, not too much gloopy sauce. Decor is very dated.

We had our last takeaway from the Ming Hwa last week and were delighted as ever with the standard of the food. Lovely mixed noodles with generous amounts of pork, chicken and king prawns, spare ribs, chicken with mixed vegetables etc. One of the really nice features of their food is the beautiful fresh vegetables in so many dishes. A treat, as always, and one we seem to have quite often!

Decided to try to find a local Chinese and I wasn't disappointed when I found this gem of a place. Hubby and I will definitely return as the food was delicious, full of taste, well cooked, and far too much to eat.

Delicious, would return when we're next in Bexhill. Easy to find and value for money. Seems I have to say more. The prawn dish was tasty as was the sauce ad the prawn cocktail starter.

Met with my brother here last night for dinner, yes, the décor may be dated, but it fondly reminded me of when I was a child being treated to a chinese meal out with parents, so it didn't bother me at all. It's spotlessly clean too. The food was hot, with very generous portions, so we were glad we didn't over order. Really flavoursome food, especially the (very) crispy spring rolls and chicken curry. I'd go as far to say it's the best Chinese restaurant in Bexhill, and would most definitely recommend others to try it. Nice to know they offer takeaway as well, as I will now choose this over the one in Western Road!

As many other commentators have remarked, this place looked closed from the outside, dark and unwelcoming. That must put a lot of people off. Inside, the decor clearly hasn’t been updated since the 80s and is not attractive. The waiter was polite but only offered me the menu for the set lunch and I had to ask him if that was all that was available before he offered me the full menu. The food itself was nice enough but not as nice as many Chinese meals I have had. Overall the experience was distinctly average.

After being customers many times over the years we were very disappointed when we phoned last night to make a booking. As soon as I mentioned that my wife was now in a wheelchair, the person answering the phone told me that the doorway was 'too narrow' so no wheelchairs could come through. They did not ask what our wheelchair dimensions were or offer to help us to overcome the problem by chair transfer etc. I realise that it might be disproportionately expensive to widen the doorway but we felt completely blanked by the way the call was answered and felt that they did not want a disabled person to come for a meal.

I love the people who own Ming Hwa, I have grown up in Bexhill and this restaurant was my first experience of Chinese food, that was 30 years ago. Went back several weeks ago, hasn't changed in all those years. Sadly I won't be returning, just too back in time for me, they need to revamp and bring it up to date. Get rid of that awful fish tank, decor and spend a few quid on re-modernizing and the menu. The toilet is the same as all those years ago, if I look hard enough I am sure I will find my name etched in there. I am sure if they got their heads together, they could make it again, the best Chinese Restaurant around for miles.

This restuarant is the enigma of all restuarants in so far as should I be very critical, should I praise it or what I ask myself? Answer; Lets wait and see. I have been to Ming Wha many times over the years and thought very little about doing a review on it, however, as other contributors have but not recently, I thought it was about time to join in.It is true the same family have actually been here for over fourty years, "Ming Wha" actually means in chinese"Sunshine City" so I am told, but here there is no sunshine. The atmosphere inside the restuarant when it is quiet, is like a morgue, seriuosly, you can here a pin drop, and you shouldn't speak to loudly as others will here your conversations, since the owner has done away with any type of background music, even chinese twangs plucking away, it is dead, and I mean dead. The decor has been improved once I think in those 40 years plus, , but a green painted ceiling with a reddish/pink cloth type wallpaper which people pick off when no ones looking, does nothing for enhancement. There are no lanterns hanging from the ceiling, the pictures on the walls are the same ones he's had for years, how they stay up is simply amazing. The tables/chairs and table cloths are also the same, the cruet set the same, everything is the same, its like they are in a time warp, however, and heres the good point:With all that I have said, the food here is also the same, I don't think the menu has changed in 40 years either, except the prices still go up!!! but last night for instance, despite it all, the restuarant had over 20 people wanting a sit down meal along with quite a few ordering take aways, so what does that say about the place, people like this very old fashioned way of accepting chinese food, me included, and to indulge in when I agree with others, despite his mother, father and son cooking the food, it is probably the best chinese food in the area to eat. It is the only one of two in Bexhill where you can actually have dinner siting down, there are other takeaways in the area, but their food doesn't come up to the level of Ming Wha's. Despite this restuarant being on the available business market, I suspect no one over the years wants to change it as what would the family do then I ask?

I came here for the first time (hopefully not the last!) tonight as part of a group of eight to celebrate a friend's forthcoming wedding. Although it is a bit like going into a time warp decor-wise (a bit 70's/80's!), it has a relaxed atmosphere. It wasn't overly busy for a Saturday night, though several came in for takeaways. The two English waitresses were delightful - very friendly, cheerful and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. We all had different things, and everyone seemed to enjoy what they had. I had the prawn curry with egg fried rice. Chinese curries can be a bit bland, but the curry at the Ming Hwa has a real kick to it - it is certainly spicy, in a good way. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I usually end up leaving a lot of it, but I polished off the lot it was so good. So, although the ambience isn't all that, the food speaks for itself, and I can recommend it.

I too am vegetarian..,.hence the ambivalence...felt pretty amazed there was NOTHING on the menu for us (I am not a pecharian)...apart from curried vegetables. There was no bean curd in or out of a non vegetarian dish. However they made me a very tasty soup and took the fried beef out of the fried beef with green peppers and black bean sauce, replacing it with vegetables. They added cashews at my request. I asked them if they had singapore rice noodles (not on the menu) and they made up it up for me and even asked if I had eggs. The service was very warm and friendly..albeit by a lovely english lady, the chinese 83 year old owner of 30 years, now cooking out the back.I love time warps...and this was certainly one....that velvety wall paper, maybe the same carpet for 30 years...was told the menu had not changed either for that time. I guess bean curd, crispy seaweed and the like were more commonly on menus in the 90's onwards? You have to be extremely lucky to have a vegetarian set menu even now. So enough redeeming features for 3 stars.

We have eaten food from the Ming Hwa countless times over the years, mostly takeaway but also on occasion in the restaurant, and have never been disappointed. True, the decor is heroically behind the times and the atmosphere quiet, but at least the old fish tank has now been retired! Every dish at this restaurant has its own flavour rather than a generic 'one sauce fits all' style of cooking and the amount of fresh vegetables used in the cooking is outstanding these days in English Chinese restaurants. We are delighted that the same family have maintained this sort of standard for so long and anyone who has worked in restaurants will now just how difficult this is to achieve. Although we ring the changes, perennial favourites are the special chow mein, the sweet and sour king prawn balls and spare ribs. Long may they continue!

This restaurant has, I understand, been owned and run by the same family for around forty years. The decor is dated and there hasn't been much attention paid to the ambience being created. However the two women serving are very friendly and eager to please and the family is still producing excellent food. Prices are very reasonable and quantities are generous. It is sad not to see more people using it - most business seems to come from takeaways. But if you want a good Chinese meal in a spacious restaurant served with a smile, and that won't break the bank, then do try the Ming Hwa.

Been going to this restaurant for years and enjoyed their lunchtime fixed price menus which are always excellent value for money. Recently went for an early evening Friday meal and enjoyed everything that we ordered. The two English waitresses were delightful and accommodating and made for a pleasant evening. Yes, the atmosphere is dated but comfortable and great for those who like quiet dining and of course this fits in with the ethos of Bexhill quiet life. Experience also shows that this is a popular take away as people are always coming in to pick up so that must be a reference to good food in itself and of course everyone gets restaurant food. I am surprised to not see more positive reviews here.

I've never been to a chinese restaurant that didn't have a single starter or main course suitable for a vegetarian but now I have. Only soups & prawn cocktail for starters, no seaweed, spring rolls I found in the side orders part of the menu were even meaty! No tofu, not even sweet & sour vegetables but they did make it for us after having to ask what our options were. Plain mushrooms with boiled rice was also offered up, what a culinary delight! That aside, the food was ok & they have a 5 star food safety rating. I was concerned by the brown colour of the sweet and sour but it tasted ok. 1 of our party had chilli shredded beef but there was no chilli heat in it. The white house wine was quite unpleasant. Pudding (lycees, apple/banana fritters, ice cream) we chose banana fritters which was nice but they didnt fit in the bowl they were served in.I know Bexhill isn't a busy place in the winter but we were virtually they're only customers which left the atmosphere lacking especially with the very out dated decor from the 70s & no music or atmospheric lighting. The place needs a revamp & menu update asap as they're clean & efficient but I won't return as I do not enjoy being put in a position where i have no choice of food.

I took my daughter to this restaurant for the first time. It had been recommended by a few friends. It was like stepping back to the 70's, flock style pink wallpaper, mirrored bar, mismatching cutlery and crockery I would liken to what my grandma had or possible from an Argos catalogue from the 80's. However it was all very clean. The menu was small compared to other Chinese restaurants but still plenty to choose from. The food was absolutely delicious, I cannot fault it at all. There were lots of takeaway customers in and out all evening and other eat in diners. I will be going back, this is my first choice of sit in Chinese restaurant in Bexhill. I would recommend it.

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

We bumped into this beautiful pub whilst away on business. Very grateful we did. A fantastic pub with friendly staff and frankly outstanding food. Gammon egg and chips was everything you’d want, A salty thick slab of beautiful gammon with perfect eggs and crispy chips. The pie was increíble- a generous slab of (surely) homemade shortcrust pasty, chicken, ham and leek pie with chips, veg and gravy. Deep filled is an understatement! Couldn’t recommend more- a big thanks to Nikki and the staff.

I’m relieved to see this establishment has closed its doors. My experience there was one of the worst I've ever encountered, especially considering I live in the area and never expected to face such blatant racism in my own community. The owners, Jimmy and Carol, were never friendly right from the start, and it's astonishing that they managed to operate this restaurant for so long. I had often walked past it without giving it much thought, but this time I was with a few friends and thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, the way we were treated was nothing short of appalling. We stood in the middle of the dining area for at least 15 minutes without even a greeting. It’s hard to believe they could miss us, as there were four of us waiting. The waitstaff glanced at us several times but never made the effort to approach. I can’t help but wonder if our Asian descent played a role in their indifference. Despite the available seating, we chose to wait out of respect. I sincerely hope they never reopen a restaurant. If they do, I hope they learn a valuable lesson in customer service.
