Always enjoy the food served at The Swan

We are staying just down the road and we're looking for a nice local pub for a drink and some food, so we popped in on Friday evening. The first thing that we both noticed straight away, was how busy it was. This is not a criticism as it was so nice to see a full pub on a Friday night, with what was obviously lots of regulars having a drink or two. Very refreshing and everyone seemed to know each other. The landlady was very warm and friendly and we felt very welcome. They also loved our dog, Bert, but that's a gimme really, as he's so friendly. A few decent ales on tap but to be honest, the real star of the show was the food. A very decent menu offering at very fair prices. We both chose the steak and kidney pudding with chips and it did not disappoint. The crust was just like my Mum used to make and the filling, gorgeous steak, kidney and gravy, was from top to bottom. A full and stunning pud which we both enjoyed so much. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone and if we are local again, we'll be back

I called in to check out the menu as I had heard that they served venison, ordered a pint of lager and was charged £6.80 at those prices which are more expensive than most London pubs my interest in even looking at the menu stopped. I have passed this pub many times and thought it looked like a very traditional place which would be worth checking out and mentioned it to my friends but even at the Cooden Beach Hotel I did not pay nearly as much for the same pint of beer.

Absolutely loved this place. We had lunch at The Swan yesterday, the food was excellent particularly the amazing chips. Lovely roaring fire in the bar area and the lady serving couldn’t have been more friendly. Can’t wait to go back in the evening and try the lasagne.

Fine old inn in the high weald serving good beer and good food. Plenty of walks nearby.

Our fith visit to this pub. The woman behind the bar kept calling my wife and I guys !! "everhing ok guys " etc: give me strength !!!!!!! The food on this occasion was very average to poor the worst we ever had ,perhaps the chef had a day off as it was on a Tuesday lunch time and the cook didn't know what they were doing. We live locally and won't be returning and will be relaying this to our neighbours and contacts. Great shame and a dissapoinment on this visit.

Food was absolutely fab, I had the salmon special and my husband had the skate wing, both were lovely. We will be back again soon.

The pies are the best, quite possibly the best I've ever had. Took a while to get the food on a couple of occasions however it's a small pub that's popular.

Lively and cosy country pub. We visited on a Friday evening for food and the main bar area where we were seated was busy to begin with. Noticed a restaurant area which might have been better if attending here for a meal and not just drinks. Good food, and pricing not too bad. Thought the chicken wings were great. The bacon and brie beef burger was lacking something - i'd do away with the onion rings and add some cranberry sauce inside the burger instead. Otherwise an enjoyable visit.

We had a lovely evening at The Swan, buzzing atmosphere, but quietened down as the evening went on. Really enjoyed the delicious food. Had a great choice of starters and mains. Reasonably priced.

The Swan Inn was just up the road from where we were staying for a short break. We booked a table for Monday night and were treated to a lovely reception by Trudy who looked after us all evening. The service was brilliant as was the food. So good in fact, we went back the following night to sample something different from the menu. We weren’t disappointed. Trudy was on hand again and started the birthday singing for my wife when the puds were brought out. If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll be back! Thanks!

We love this place, it's so welcoming and the food is always amazing. The only down side is it needs a little TLC, I would never want the traditional feel to change but it really needs a little tidying up around the edges.

Great selection of options on the menu including venison, seafood; bangers, pie's, went here 3 times whilst on holiday and the food was excellent every time. Staff are friendly and the food is served quickly. Good selection of ciders and a local ale.

Went to the Swan today got there just as the kitchen was closing but they obliged and cooked my wife and myself what we wanted the food was very good and service was great it was our second visit here and wont be our last

I discovered the swan about a year ago and have been going back regularly ever since. The staff are always genuinely pleased to see you and are very accommodating. There is always a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at the Swan. The food is exceptionally good especially the meat puddings which are just like my grandmother used to make. If you want a friendly traditional pub with good beer and food you won't be disappointed.

Went to the Swan Inn today for lunch. There were 9 of us in the group. We were made very welcome, we were shown to our table. The food was excellent. All the meals were ready at the same time. We were not hounded to place our orders. The service was excellent. We were not hurried to eat our meal. In fact we did not leave until 3.45. We were all so delighted with this pub that we booked another table for 10 before we left.

Freshly cooked and prepared food with good beer on tap. Stumbled across the pub as we navigated the crossroads and glad we called in for a quick bite and a drink. Has a car park adjacent and a beer garden behind.

Stumbled across this lovely pub in the way home from a disastrous camping trip cut short. We arrived in pouring rain to a wonderfully warm welcome which was just what we needed! We had two meals and a kids meal and the food was delicious. Lovely friendly atmosphere, and we were extremely grateful to you find. Thank you!

Gobsmacked by the positive reviews on here. Probably the worst pub meal of my life. All the ingredients (presumably) from the cheapest possible cash and carry. My “halloumi and mushroom” burger was made with some kind of chewy white substance that did not taste even 1% halloumi-like and then fried in a disgusting thick batter. The mushrooms were a couple of sodden slices hidden underneath. Chips utterly tasteless Really horrible meal. Only ate it because I was starving! On the plus side, the pub interior is nice, there is a beer garden out the back and the service was prompt and friendly.

Stopped for lunch today whilst passing through. What a lovely place to find. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Extremely friendly staff. Thanks for reminding us there are still fantastic country pubs still around and thriving.

Popped in on the off chance that this charming pub would have a table for two on a busy Friday evening. Perfect that dogs are welcome. Very atmospheric old pub with lots of locals having a drink and catching up in the bar. The food was lovely and the service very good. Staff extremely polite and efficient.

Been many times since current owners have been there. Friends, family, business complaints. Nice people, nice food, value for money. Not a whole lot more to say.

Absolutely the best food we've had in a pub in many years. Good choice on the menu, including for Pescetarians and Veggies. Reasonably priced and very well cooked. Friendly pub, with good beer and a lovely big back garden. Dogs welcomed. We will definitely be returning.

Probably one of the best Pimms I've had from a pub. Such delicious and fresh seafood and veg. I got one of the specials - Skate wing with new potatoes and seasonal veg (not pictured.) I loved every bite and highly recommend stopping by here for a meal and pint. Thank you for having us!

Lovely old pub, everyone was raving on FB how good the Carvery is. Well what a disappointment, firstly I like an Ale plus to have a choice, there was only one option available. This surprised me with this pub that’s trying to keep tradition. The eating area was a little cramped to say the least but a lovely open fire going but can get a little warm if you are on the table directly in front of the fire. My partner had the beef/ venison carvery and there wasn’t much difference in taste, the roast potatoes were burnt, Yorkshire pudding was very soggy and the vegetables were overcooked. As for the gravy! I’m not sure what the ingredients were but it had a funny aftertaste twang to it, it wasn’t very nice. I had the beef/pork, again you couldn’t tell the difference in meats. My potatoes were not burnt but they were not crisp, just soft and soggy. My vegetables were again overcooked and the gravy had the same twangy taste. We didn’t have a dessert as we were put off. Overall a very disappointing experience and we won’t be returning.

Had been recommended this pub for a Sunday carvery but was disappointed. Potatoes burnt, Yorkshire pudding soggy, and strange tasting gravy. The staff were friendly but the restaurant part of the pub lacked atmosphere. It did have a decent looking menu though so perhaps there’s a better choice than the carvery. Poor choice of draught beers too - only Harvey’s! Sadly, don’t think I’d go back.

Got taken to The Swan for Mother’s Day lunch. I had the venison suet pudding which was the best ! Absolutely stuffed full of venison and the chips were soooo good. All 4 of us had fantastic food and will definitely be back. One of the few remaining traditional English pubs with a cosy atmosphere and super staff.

We decided to stop off here when passing and what a joy it was. On arrival staff were very friendly and very accommodating. We ordered two Sunday Lunches and didn't disappoint. Had crumble for dessert which was fab. Food was nice and hot and very reasonably priced. Will definitely go back again when in the area. A real little gem of a traditional country pub.

Love this pub, delicious food, lovely staff and in the most traditional, cosy, homely and comfortable setting where everyone is welcome, including your dog (nice beer garden too!); this is my favourite pub in East Sussex, there arent many left like this.

Another of our favourite local pubs. It certainly didn’t disappoint. It was busy and cosy but the five of us including our little girl got a great table. Excellent friendly Service, classic Sunday lunch and great wine and beer. It’s a popular pub for locals, families and Dog friendly too. What’s not to like

Although The Swan Inn only has a shortish menu the food is well prepared and tasty. Most importantly it is also a great pub with a good atmosphere, Harvey's bitter and other nice drinks.

We went here for Sunday dinner as we have always passed it a lot and is been busy but never actually been in, we took the plunge and we were really glad we did! The drinks menu was good, the food was most enjoyable, the menu was varied and the staff were excellent. The pub is old and traditional and untouched, which they’re aren’t many left so it was lovely to see! We were made to feel most welcome and will definitely return again!

Just a proper bread and butter country pub.

My first visit to the Swan Inn. Based my visit on previous reviews. Is fairly unassuming country pub from the outside. The decor and smoking area at the front don't do it any favours. Decent sized carpark, fairly flat access. Inside has a cozy, period feel. Friendly greeting and good service. Sat in the very pleasant large rear garden. Steps down to the garden but is a side access, I think without steps. Drinks selection was good, including a decent local real ale. The food was the surprise event. I ordered a chicken caesar salad. Often chicken is grilled to within an inch of its life. However this was soft and succulent and had probably been cooked with care, in a milk bath or similar. Fresh salad base. Altogether delicious. Price was good. All together a really nice lunch. Will definitely go back if in the area.

I was unlucky to arrive at a full marquee after a cloudburst so had to find a damp outside table. The great food and beer and amazing service more than compensated. I’ll be revisiting when -we hope- things are back to normal . Undoubtedly one of the finest Sussex pubs! Michael

Nice little country pub. Desperately needs some investment to brighten it up and improve the interior. Everything else was ok, and nothing was poor. Just needs some TLC to compete with other pubs in the area. Didnt have food, just drinks.

Great food We had Chicken & Leek pie, Bacon & Cheese Burger and Fish & Chips. Followed by crumble & ice cream, hot fudge cake & ice cream, brownie & custard and sticky toffee pudding & custard. Highly recommend 👌

Food was good however the pub was overall quite dirty. Toilets were also dirty. Not impressed especially with COVID concerns.

We were made most welcome by the friendly staff on our lunchtime visit to this country pub. We sat inside and enjoyed the glorious views across open countryside in the distance. Our main courses of spinach and ricotta quiche and home made pie were delicious and very filling. However, after a short break we indulged in home made fruit crumble - naughty but nice!! We hope to return again at some time in the future.

We visited the Swan for a lovely lunch whilst staying locally and visiting friends. The staff were friendly and the food and local Harvey's beer was great. We had heard that the pies were recommended so I had the Chicken, Leek and Bacon pie which was very tasty. We also had the veg lasagne, a BLT baguette and a prawn baguette.Everyone finished their meals and commented how much they enjoyed it and how full up they were. Didnt really have any room for desserts but had them anyway. Great pub to visit and they also accept dogs which was a bonus for our Springer. Well recommended

Very good homemade chicken,bacon and leek pie, a large slice with new potatoes and gravy. The prawn Marie Rose baguette was beautiful bread and a really generous helping of prawns with a crisp side salad. If you want to eat in the garden and find stairs tricky it’s best to go out and round the back entrance after you’ve ordered. The garden is large and social distancing easy. Good system at bar and check and trace in place.

A great country pub with a good selection of beers. The pies were fantastic with crumbly pastry and tender meat. Staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

Staff were friendly and helpful, good Harvey's but food were not up to scratch and hugely overpriced for what you got. Won't go again for food.

The homemade meat pies are spectacularly good ... £14 for a slice of heaven. Ambience and service are excellent too!
