The Gallivant in Rother

I recently revisited The Galivant with my wife and we had a lovely evening meal and were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff there. Thank you Gallivant for a great evening, we reslly enjoyed ourselves.

My wife and I booked a last minute break and had a wonderful time at The Gallivant. Would highly recommend.. great staff, lovely decor, amazing food and cocktails. Will certainly be heading back here again

There is so much to love at The Gallivant. Let’s start with the not so perfect : The Gallivant is not an imposing or grand residence, in a former life it was a motel. You can hear the road noise as it motors past. Luxury Garden Rooms contain roll top baths and subsequently tiny showers - personally I don’t like baths and would have preferred a large shower and additional space. The shower felt claustrophobic. Housekeeping - it could be better. I noticed dust and debris in and around the bottom of the shutters in the yoga studio whilst in a downward dog. The wooden floor in our bedroom should have been cleaner. More towels, more cotton wool and shower caps etc The Perfect : The atmosphere, The vibe, and The staff!! They are exceptional. Wonderful receptionists, bar staff, yoga practitioners and beauty therapists. There is so much love at The Gallivant, so much thought goes into your stay. Fluffy bath towels for the beach on hand, wellingtons, blankets and beach sundowners, you name it! Complimentary Wine O clock at 5.30 delicious local wines are served with useful descriptions. Honestly I could go on and on. Dogs are adored, welcomed not tolerated. From the moment we arrived we decompressed. In truth, General Manager's from several of the British Five Star Hotels should stay at The Gallivant, they would learn at lot. The Gallivant offers great value and I recommend anyone who is feeling a bit frazzled spend a night or two, you won’t regret it!

A lovely stay. Stayed here for two nights under the complete experience- highly recommend. Food was excellent, drinks were delightful, room slightly overheated but that didn’t dampen the stay. Slightly limited breakfast menu, but dinner superb! Ruth was standout spa therapist, excellent at her job and really made the massage relaxing. Great location for both the beach and easy hour walk to Rye.

We went for dinner here. Not only was the food excellent but the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. Some of the best customer service I've experienced. Great selection of English wine which they champion. The bar and dining room are also beautifully appointed and lovely to sit in.

Having just returned from our lunch reservation, I felt obliged, to put a few words down. I can honestly say that we had a great Sunday lunch experience throughout. We were warmly welcomed by Kerry, who was running the restaurant, and we were attended to extremely professionally. The food was excellent and the attentive staff were extremely friendly. We look forward to the reopening of Romney Bay House Hotel in September, I believe, and to eating there in the near future.

A brilliant mid-week stay at the Gallivant! The food was fantastic, highly recommend the sirloin and it was beautifully cooked. The hotel was stylish, intimate and a great location to relax in - we were lucky with the weather and a sunny evening sunset on the beach. We visited on the 30 under 30 deal and it was incredible value. Special thanks to Jo for the very warm welcome and Ruth for the amazing massages! We will be coming back. Thank you!

Went for an anniversary lunch and the food was very tasty and my wife really liked the local wine selection. The icing on the cake was the manager offered to give us a lift back to Rye as a cab was going to be 1 hour

Our stay at The Galivant was amazing. The service was brilliant, the staff went above and beyond throughout our whole stay. They upgraded our room, left treats in the room after turn down and couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We stayed for supper, breakfast and had a take out in the dunes, all of which were delicious. A special mention for the beef short rib which fell apart at a touch! Breakfast was a delight, an array of tasty local treats with the option to have hot food too. All the little touches made it a perfect getaway; a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles, putting dry robes in our rooms, cakes on the counter, letting us borrow wellies. Thank you very much - we will be back.

I brought my mum here for Mother’s Day, as any son knows there’s always lots of pressure to get it right! We couldn’t have picked a better place to be on such a special day. Kerry the restaurant manager was an absolute delight, service was warm and wonderful. The food from exec chef Nico was delicate and delicious - the chicken liver pâté was the best I’d ever had! Would absolutely recommend a visit here, they’ve nailed everything from the gorgeous interiors to the brilliant team running the restaurant.

Cannot recommend The Gallivant highly enough. Everything is wonderful here. All staff are marvellous but, specific recognition to Lindsay, Naketa, Agnes and John - nothing is too much trouble for them.

The food was really good but the service was poor. Several issues with not being able to get wines on time with our food, and lack of attention and awareness. Maybe having a celebrity chef ( John Torrode) in the private dining room was too much of a distraction for the staff? They also served me pickled walnuts with my cheese, which were not listed an the menu, knowing my partner had a nut allergy. So far from ideal. All in all a pleasant evening but not what we would have expected from a restaurant of this calibre. Although the waiting staff were lovely, it was interesting to hear the amount of times the staff were saying "sorry to keep you waIting", "sorry for the delay" to the tables in the restaurant.

Had a one night midweek stay at the Gallivant for two. Included a delicious breakfast and a yoga class within the price. I really love the ambiance of this hotel - warm, luxurious and stylish. Our room was superb (Trafalgar); the staff were attentive without being intrusive, and even though it was blowing a sandstorm across the dunes, the beach location was totally invigorating. I would go back in a heart beat.

Rooms may look nice but they are small - with no fridge, no drinks/ snacks, no coffee machine and no room service available etc. Service was pretty poor, and not much restaurant availability for dinner (6pm only) or breakfast (9-10am not available) - although I was there til 9.30am and it was very empty! Definitely not worth the price. Would not recommend.

We had a lovely time thank you. Lovely comfortable rooms and we were lucky enough to have perfect weather. We really enjoyed the food - more options than on our previous visit and all delicious. Slightly mystified about the fact that some options were on the essentials menu one night and then the very next night these same options had supplements! Service in the main was really good - the waitress on breakfast service was really lovely, efficient and cheerful - dinner service a bit slow. I enjoyed the yoga sessions and thought India especially was a really great teacher. It's always nice to come to the amazing beach and our dog really loved the sand dunes - you're right 'happiness is a place'. Thank you

What a delight! Had an amazing Friday night meal at the Gallivant to kick off a wonderful weekend in Camber. We started with a fabulous bottle of English sparkling wine in the beautiful sheltered courtyard (particularly given it was late September, we were extremely fortunate with the weather). We then moved inside for dinner - the menu was fantastic and as well as the amazing aged ribeye, there were some really special veggie mains and salads. It was so good we went back for lunch!

We had a wonderful lunch at The Gallivant today. The food was fresh and interesting, the service was attentive, but not overly so, stylish interiors, but for us it was the garden that bought the biggest delight. It is probably designed by some garden luminary that I should be aware of, but it was a surprise to see such stylish and unusual planting in a hotel garden. Being able to wander around (even in the heat) before lunch and get plenty of inspiration to take home (so many plants I hadn’t seen before) made our visit extra special. We’ve decided to return each season using the changing gardens as an excuse for a special lunch.

We had heard good things about this hotel and decided to pop in and have some lunch to check it out. The hotel is nice and welcoming and the staff are very attentive. There is a nice bar in the reception area. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, but it was a Tuesday. We struggled a bit to find something we fancied on the menu, so it would be nice if they had some more options. What we had was good, but it wouldn't have been anything we would typically order. There was a good choice of wines, including local ones

I attended a wedding here at the weekend, and thought it was a very nice venue - the staff were friendly and fairly attentive, the food was delicious (although wasn't keen on the style of service, but that may have been a choice of the bride and groom as the meals were tapas style / shared plates which you had to serve yourself. Could also have been due to reduced staffing numbers due to covid perhaps?) Either way I thought the meals had been cooked and prepared to perfection, and I could see the staff taking care regarding those guests who had allergies/dislikes and discretely coming over to them to advise them of the alternatives that were being served. The annex where we were seated for the wedding breakfast, although had fans over some parts of some of the tables, it did not reach all of us, and we were all taking turns to escape outside for some cooler air, which was a bit of a shame. I chose not to stay over, as I had found an alternative hotel (The Owl) at a fraction of the cost which was local and convenient to walk back to as only a few minutes down the road. If I was in the area again, I would happily dine here.

What a disappointing restaurant. Kids not allowed under 12. Does this restaurant think kids even at 10/11 years are a burden ? I don’t. Get it. We have been to 1 to 3 Michelin star restaurants globally which even by their platinum standard allow kids. We have been going to this restaurant Pre-covid but now they have simply lost our business. Just sad to hear of institutions which think children and families are a menace to the community. Unbelievable

After looking around at several restaurants in Camber we booked a table at the Gallivant for our anniversary treat. We were not to be disappointed. On arrival we were greeted by Lindsay who welcomed us and led us through to the lounge area for a pre dinner drink. The lounge area and central bar was very nicely furnished and comfortable. After a short while we were shown to our table which was within the lounge area and not in the main restaurant as we had our little dog with us. Charlie was given a bowl of water and was very settled under the table. We had the mussels and the cuttlefish dishes to start with which were both well seasoned and tasted great. For our main course we decided to share the wood grilled aged Angus porterhouse steak which we both agreed was the best cut of meat we had ever had. Absolutely delicious Throughout our meal we were asked if everything was ok and at the end Lindsay again engaged with us and wished us the rest of a good evening.

We live in Camber and invited two friends from Hastings, a town with many very good restaurant choices of its own which they use. But our friends were stunned by the decor - so familiar to ourselves -and could not stop commenting on it delightful style, furnishings and a wonderful central bar area. We were warmly greeted by our waitress who introduced herself as Anna who asked if we were comfortable and offered the drinks and brunch menus. The menu was varied, appetising and imaginative. Service was efficient and polite and we were checked upon but not obtrusively, sensitive our to chatter, catching up and gossip which was welcome. Our guests said to us it was a great visit and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, especially the presentation and quality of the food...exactly our own experience.

We booked the Gallivant for dinner during our honeymoon - thinking it would be the highlight - but we were rather disappointed. The menu prices suggested fine dining but the dishes served were more reflective of bistro food. Everything seemed to be charred, from the locally caught squid, buried in a bowl of beans, to the monkfish, served on the bone with a very average seafood sauce, and even the hispi cabbage which was quartered, charred and served on a side plate with a scattering of 'crumb' which sprayed onto the table as we tried to cut the cabbage from the stalk! The restaurant lacked atmosphere, not helped by the pianist in the bar, who plonked away the entire evening playing totally inappropriate music, more reminiscent of a late night lounge - could have really done without that! We skipped dessert and retired to the 'lounge' (even closer to the plonking pianist) for coffee - and had to shell out an extra £1.50 for a chocolate truffle to go with coffee. Most restaurants would surely have offered those complimentary?? I haven't even mentioned the outrageously prticed wine list - let's just say we settled for a pre-dinner cocktail and 1 glass of wine...

Hugely disappointing. This was a treat from my daughter. The meal was really poor, under seasoned lamb, not a hint of the taste of a sardine, to top it all the Monk fish was far from fresh and was returned. Even so it cost my daughter over a hundred pound! The chef who prepared our food was is not fit to work in a supposedly quality kitchen. All the hype is very misleading this is not a good restaurant. Avoid at all costs.

Perfect service, beautiful food, good choice of wine. Unpretentious, relaxed environment. Stay for breakfast!

We had the most delicious food beautifully presented. Gunnard was so good, as was the Dutch pancake for breakfast.

Why (oh why?) do we keep returning? Disappointed every time. And when we raise our issues in a kindly and balanced way, we are given empty promises and ignored on every level. I think being absolutely frozen, no fire and lukewarm (very tired) food for my Partners 73rd birthday added insult to injury. As a local Airbnb Host I’m finally forced to take my link (and recommendation) for the Gallivant off my platform. Buck your ideas up Gallivant before dissatisfaction spreads ever wider in the local community!!

From breakfast, to dinner, the meals were delicious with a wide variety of options for all types of diners.

After a pleasant meal, not outstanding as lamb very fatty and greasy in the private dining room which charges £25 a head plus service plus set menu we find out that the bar doesn’t do shaken cocktails!!! So a espresso martini we cannot order due...

Delicious flavours and lovely local kent and sussex wines. Outside terrace was nice in the good weather - no views as more of a courtyard. Inside decor also nice and very friendly staff. Highly recommended

I was out with my two cousins for a walk on Camber Sands and having just driven from London, we fancied a light lunch before setting off. The Gallivant hotel had been recommended to us so we decided to have a bite to eat and...

Have had better meals at motorway services.Quite a large group in general agreement. Felt guilty as visit proposed by myself.

This meal was to die for. We were dining as a group of four, so we we lucky enough to try a range of options on the menu! The highlights: pickled mussels, hispi cabbage, lamb chops (local Romney Marsh lamb), pork chops and monk fish (to share between 2). Plus, the desserts were to die for - I couldn't pick a favourite so I recommend trying all three: baked custard and poached rhubarb, dark chocolate mousse with coffee ice cream and the poached pear with pear sorbet. Can't wait for our next trip back.

We had an evening meal there recently.The decor was good, but the food, although ordinary, was very expensive, and service was unjustifiably pretentious.We had a better meal, with more comfortable and efficient service, at a pub 7or8 miles away a couple of days later.I really cannot understand what the attraction of the Gallivant is; who are its target market?

Absolutely loved staying with you. The hotel is beautiful and perfectly located, the food was delicious, it’s amazing you are so dog friendly - it was just so nice not to have to leave our old dog Slinky alone! Yoga class was lovely and the group wild swim is a fantastic touch (shame I missed it) and the books in the room are a nice thoughtful touch. It was a fantastic experience and we loved it. The decor is excellent. We haven’t been for many years and the rebuild has been done very well. Comfortable lounge area, roaring fire and beautifully decorated for Christmas However the meal turned into a nightmare. We sat down at 1.15 and finally got our staters at 2.30 pm. One soup was cold and had to be sent back, one starter forgotten altogether. I still can’t work out why the service was so bad. There were plenty of staff milling around and hardly anyone else in the restaurant. The food was OK. The menu makes you feel you are going to get something unusual but it is just flamboyant descriptions for standard dishes. It was pretty obvious by the end of the meal that we were not impressed, they knocked the missing starter off the bill but an apology from whoever is on charge would have gone a long way. The American waitress did a lot of eye rolling. Such a shame as it is a lovely venue and we are really not difficult to please. In fact we didn’t knock the service off the bill, which we should have done. It wouldn’t take much to make this place outstanding. Before the rebuild the service was always friendly and efficient

I celebrated my 50th birthday with a group of friends from London. Food and ambiance was lovely and I could not fault it. We had a private room for dining which was beautifully decorated and very stylish. The younger members of staff could do with a bit more training but that didn't spoil my evening at all and I would still give them 4 starts!

Firstly I must say what a beautiful place this is. The young lady on arriving in reception was excellent. The complimentary afternoon tea at 4pm was nice & relaxing. The wine tasting at 5pm from the food & beverage manager was informative, fun & nice.

Stylish, welcoming place, dog friendly, charming service. If food could be sorted, will be there every week end! Menu is great but cooking simply terrible.

It was a great all round experience. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, and the menu is varied. I'm not sure the bill was wholly justified, but we really couldn't complain as the service and delivery was excellent. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Camber.

Such a lovely place to eat with the family including our Labrador. Food and ambiance excellent, slightly pricey but well worth a visit whilst in Camber.

We had high hopes for lunch with friends in what we had heard was a stylish and good boutique hotel with a fine restaurant. The style is there, but service confused and food possibly the worst we have eaten ever, certainly this year. My overcooked fish floated in a cold mess of tomatoes, my partners ribeye (at £28) meant to be medium, was a bloody, gristle and sinew filled shocker. Admittedly, after a complaint the ribeye was replaced with a better serving, but the original should never have been allowed to leave the kitchen and by the time the second arrived we had all finished eating. The dining room was empty and one wondered if the chef had gone home, leaving the pot washer to cook! A spoilt afternoon, never to be repeated.

Visited on the evening of 28th August and first impressions good, a small restaurant with nice bright decor, didn’t appear very busy. Waited fifteen minutes for somebody to come to our table and we were asked if we were ready to order. I said we would like to order some drinks, which we then waited another fifteen minutes for. Starters and main course were very good, desserts were good but presentation was bland. We ordered a second round of drinks which never came, asked again and about fifteen minutes later they finally arrived.

We arrived with high expectations but were quickly shocked. On arrival there was no one to greet you and we wandered about until we spotted staff. The waitress who we finally found was charming and sat us in the restaurant.

Small but lovely menu! Well worth a visit! Great gluten free options too. And great for Wine (epecially English Wine)!

Menu was amazing and there was something for everyone. We stayed for three nights and I had gnocchi on the first evening, line caught, sea bass on the second and turbot at the last evening - all delicious and made with love.

Relaxing calm ambience, attentive and warm friendly waiting staff, exquisite food and wine. The restaurant is tastefully dressed. A very lovely evening. Thank you. The only thing that could have made it even better is if you had espresso martinis on your cocktails menu!

We went with high expectations and were disappointed. Our welcome was friendly and the bar area well appointed and attractive. But the service was amateur - the carafe of white wine for the first course arrived after we had eaten it. Our waitress had to check the name of the red three times and then could not find it. The wine waiter solved the puzzle.It was good ,but expensive for what it was.

We stopped here with our family to have breakfast. There are no signs to alert you that families are not welcome, however, upon requesting a table the waiter demanded to know how old my son was. I was quite taken aback and told him he was 9, at which point he said, “we don’t accept children under 10”. I explained he would be 10 later this month. There were no other people dining and the weather was fair, so we were surprised that he had made such an issue for 2 weeks.

Really disappointed to learn that the Gallivant operates a no children under 10 policy.

Very overpriced for food that is average at best. Last night we went to Landgate in Rye that was far better, and cheaper.

we stayed at The Gallivant for an overnight. Had a superb dinner with fresh fish and local ingredients. Very good wine selection. The next day was an extensive and hearty breakfast, continental and cooked options, with excellent local recipe sourdough bread and the most amazing gluten free Almond Cake!

The only upmarket restaurant in Camber and priced accordingly. The menu and food is very good, but expensive and let down just a little by slow service. Nonetheless we enjoyed a good lunch with friends and can recommend.

I was meeting a friend (late May) i hadn't seen for over a year and after a long walk on the beach decided to pop into the Gallivant for lunch. A lovely young waitress had come with menus and asked us for our drinks order (she was young and new but lovely), we ordered a glass of pino (which was confirmed they had) and i ordered a St.Clements as i was hot and thirsty.

Wir wollten hier zu Mittag essen, das Restaurant sah von aussen nett aus, war aber komplett leer. Wir wurden dann darauf hingewiesen, dass Kinder unter 10 Jahren beim Lunch (und vermutlich auch sonst) nicht erwünscht sind. Und das in einem leeren Restaurant! Hundefreundlich scheint es ja zu sein, hingegen sehr familienfeindlich - von der Strategie her unklug, wir würden niemandem empfehlen, dort hin zu gehen.

Had a lovely evening meal here, local catch of the day and local lamb rump. Both dishes were presented well and tasted very good. Service was friendly and efficient.

Ate here Sunday evening. We had pork fillet and lamb rump. Succulent meat that had real flavour. Service was attentive and we had a great evening.

We decided to head for Camber Sands as the weather was beautiful and decided to have lunch at the Gallivant. As we had not booked the bartender very kindly looked into it and finally after 10 minutes we sat outside in the lovely courtyard.

What a gem. Loved the bar area and had a fantastic peach Bellini.

It was to be the end of a weekend in London for RHS Chelsea lunch at the Gallivant. I had read all about it in a glossy magazine but..... what a shame...... what a disappointment. Such lovely local produce, the beef was outstanding but sadly was supported by inefficient staff who were clearly flailing around unsupported by a team and more importantly by the lack of a team manager. It wasn’t over busy even on bank holiday weekend but yet It took them an hour and a half to serve two courses and two bottles of water.

Have stayed for a weekend here a couple of summers ago and could not fault it. However popped in today for brunch and coffee alerting reception we would be sitting outside. Waited about 15 minutes without being approached at all. So sadly on this occasion we just left taking our custom elsewhere. Very disappointing as was looking forward to visiting again.

A very nice interior and a warm welcome. The cooking is off a good standard using very fresh, local produce. My friends and I had a enjoyable evening and would be happy to return.

From checking in to checking out we had a fantastic time, the staff were polite and friendly dogs were kept on leads at all times. Lovely restaurant with a fantastic menu. The room felt very luxury the bathroom was spotless loved the marble and the mini bar and snack selection was very handy.

Ate here just after Christmas with my 2 kids 8 and 11. Decent meal and they let the dog in which is great. We booked to go back this weekend. I called to see if they would be having steak on the menu as the kids loved it last time. Apparently all kids under 12 are no longer welcome. But its fine to bring a dog!!!

What’s happened to this once delightful place ! Excited to return but only to find it has become stuffy and unwelcoming. Slow service and mains served cold. Did not expect to leave horrified and not wanting to return.

My family and I were looking forward to trying the restaurant but my husband was rudely told that children were not allowed under a certain age. I visited their website to double check their policy and it states that only children over 12 years of age can eat and stay there.

My husband and I decided to have a babymoon at The Gallivant in March. The hotel does look like a motel from the outside and there was plenty of parking but I don’t know if this would be the case during busier times. We were greeted by the lovely receptionist and shown straight to our Deck Room. The room was small but really nicely done, lovely rainforest shower, big comfy bed, Netflix on the TV and reasonably sized private terrace for nicer weather days. Toiletries are the big versions you can’t take home, which is fine by me. Dressing gown each and fluffy towels. The hotel corridors could do with a re paint but other than this was all lovely.

Just stayed for one night. We were in a luxury garden view room.

Booked for light lunch after a walk on the beach. A bit of a plain exterior but a real gem once inside, which has been tastefully decorated and to a high standard. The bar is inviting and a great place to relax with a lovely modern fireplace. And the food was definitely 5 out of 5. The staff are polite, welcoming, and on their game. I just felt that it was slightly over priced.

Went for lunch and had a really nice piece of roast cod. Exceptionally well cooked and tasted delicious. Unfortunately the service let things down. I’m not sure if the restaurant was unusually busy because of the good weather but the staff didn’t really seem to be able to keep up.

An ideal location for meeting up with friends over a leisurely meal in a very relaxed atmosphere

The style of the restaurant is nice and modern with a stylish but local seaside feel and there is little to complain about on the menu in terms of it offering a range of options to suit most tastes. A good start then.

Spent an amazing Christmas break at The Gallivant, we had a fabulous time, the staff are so friendly and really do go the after mile to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Freya is an absolute gem, really welcoming and caring, Kurt is also a wonderful asset to The Gallivant at the bar and in the restaurant. We love this place so much we have booked again. Thorough recommend to anyone, the added bonus is the gorgeous beach opposite which is a haven for getting it away from it all with your pooch and those special in your life x

Average and overpriced for what it is. If you're staying here it's worth going into Rye and finding something better

We ate here on the first night of a two night stay at the Gallivant. I really liked the restaurant area and adjoining bar.

This restaurant had come highly recommended and we couldn’t have been more disappointed. Every one of our mains was sent back either for being ill reflective of the menu and/or inedible. It’s as if they are trying to serve dishes that they are not skilled to make. Same with the cocktails at the bar. Therefore making everything incredibly over priced. Management did nothing to acknowledge our disappointment and even tried to charge us for all the mains that had been returned + service! A simple acknowledgement and enquiry into our disappointment could have gone a long way but instead received a hostile and rude reaction.

We are staying close by in Camber and I found this on my Michelin Guide(plate). Although the staff seemed to try their best, they made several mistakes (food in wrong order, wrong wine glass, waiting almost 5 minutes to be seated (reserved in advance)). The food was far away from being worthy (very average) and in comparison, very expensive. A quick research shows that this restaurant is supposed to be in the 100 best of England – I sincerely hope for the rest of England, that this is not true. The only somewhat good thing was the desert, which made me give this place 2 stars instead of one. They also added a service charge directly to our bill (tip), which I find a bit sassy for such a place. So, better stay away if in Camber – The Owl would be a better option here.

We stayed in Camber for a week in a friend's house having originally considered a few days stay at The Gallivant Hotel so we decided that we would go and have dinner there on our last evening so we could see the hotel and check it out for a future visit.

We had a delicious dinner here made from locally sourced produce and so we decided to complement this with wine from the area. No regrets- both the plaice and steak excellently cooked. Breakfast the following morning did not disappoint either.

Beautiful lunch in this outstanding restaurant by the beach. Local ingredients and wines where possible (eg Romney Marsh lamb - the marsh is outside the back door) beautifully and imaginatively prepared. Well worth a visit

The portions are generous & wisely I did not have a starter. The local cod was beautifully cooked with crisp skin, on its bed of - well, supposedly foraged sea vegetables but just the one, some very good samphire, joined by tomatoes, olives, capers, rustic croutons (the advertised garlic was hardly there) & red onion. A delicious assemblage. Birthday cake & ice cream plus espresso coffee completed a very enjoyable meal. Tasted the smoked salmon - fine - and the squid with kimchi which was interesting and not over spiced. Others enjoyed the plaice & the chocolate mousse.

Lovely Restaurant, the food was really great and all the staff are very helpful and friendly, the prices were reasonable and it was nice and clean

Enjoyed our lunch here, local produce etc. Would definitely recommend and return. Good selection. Liked the decor.

The new design is lovely. Airy and spacious with a London vibe going on. Lovely private dining room too. These guys work hard to make you feel welcome. Ingredients are sourced locally and are seasonal. We have been lucky enough to have dined here for the last few years and it never disappoints. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar area.

The tubby man with the tattoos and beard is absolutely brilliant and knows all about his gins. All the waitresses and the small man were very attentive and helpful. Lucy (think that’s her name) was absolutely amazing and knew an a lot about the menu which was very helpful on making a decision. She was very informative. Sam was extremely funny and made the night very entertaining. This allowed for a very calm evening and I would highly recommend coming here. The food was exceptional (especially the lamb. It was the best I’ve ever had). Love this place! Will return.

Went to a Jazz Brunch as part of the Rye Jazz Festival. The jazz was superb but the food was not. The publicity promised a hearty brunch but it was anything but. The menu mentioned typical English breakfast ingredients as locally sourced but none were available only the set items listed - weird. When the food arrived(the wait was quite acceptable) the portions were tiny - I ordered bubble and squeak and have never been served such a small portion - it looked ridiculous on a plate that size. To make things worse it was so bland there was no discernible taste of anything at all. There were 6 of us on our table and everyone was similarly disappointed, either small portions or tasteless food or sometimes both. I had never been to The Gallivant before and after this experience I have no intention of returning.

Loved walking in to this place. It was warm and friendly, and very inviting. The fireplaces and little alcoves with magazines and games on offer makes it feel like a home from home. The staff were amazing. Attentive and friendly and very accommodating to our 5 year old who warmed to them all Immediately. We popped in for an early dinner without a reservation and were happy to hear they could squeeze us in. The menu is small however they do try to vary the types of dishes and clearly use a mountain of local fresh produce which is delicious. It is expensive though, I know I know you have to pay for the quality of the produce.. I just wish there was a cheaper way in order to return more frequently. The lamb was exceptional. The decor fresh crisp and clean. A all round feel good venue. I'd love to stay there on my return to Camber. A short stay mind you as you need a few Bob I can imagine :-)
