The Compass Inn in New Forest

We came to experience a village where my mother's great grandmother originated The pub was a real lived history experience. We chose the scampi and locally made Tatchbury pie. All very filling and satisfying. The decor alone made our trip worthwhile.

We came here for a roast dinner after seeing it advertised on their website. When we arrived it wasn't available but we had the best pie and mash instead which was perfect. We both chose the chicken, ham and cheese pie which came with mash, peas and gravy. We sat beside the wood burner which was lovely and cosy, also had wooden beams on the ceiling. Real cosy pub and welcoming, friendly staff.

Mothers day treat and it was absolutely lovely. Staff were friendly, the pub itself has great art work and nice feel. The garden looked lovely The menu was enough to choose but not too much (I managed to get my son to eat woop) We were not rushed or asked how our food was a million times like other places I will definitely be going back Home made delicious food 😀

Sunday Roast, sorry to say this but very disappointing Iceland Yorkshire pudding (better to just not do these) plain cauliflower, carrots and peas, some of it was hot some just warm so obviously heated up in microwave. The only good bit was the beef and the fried parsnip shavings on top. Such a shame cause the staff were lovely and place had a good atmosphere, but way to expensive for an Iceland roast.

Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puds for Sunday Lunch - all of our party had the same thing - all very tasty. Particularly liked the parsnip shavings on top of the roast. Friendly staff too. We’ll be back soon.

A lovely pub, beautifully presented. It was an early evening visit with lots of locals chatting. The whole experience was totally spoilt by the very loud inscescent beat music/commercial radio which seemed to be only for the benefit of the young staff behind the bar. Great pub. What a shame!!!

Absolutely love having the option to have a pie with the roast dinner/ with roast vegies on a Sunday and also the giant Yorkshire pudding slices so so tasty. Favourite roast in the New Forest!

Looking forward to a lovely couple’s lunch. Dropping the kids at nanny’s for a rare night alone. Drinks varied and welcomed. Ordered steak and ale pie and giant Yorkshire pudding and veggie bake. Frozen veggies on both. Shop bought pie and shops brought mash. Very watery throughout. Waitress and bar staff overrun but friendly and hospitable. Couldn’t order drinks at the table as staff over busy. Lovely pub, but let down by the food. Would come again, but probably only have a sandwich. Although no veggie option on the special menu!

We enjoyed a very special lunch for our Dad/Grandad's Birthday. There were 20 of us and we all enjoyed our meals that arrived hot and all at the same time, which was impressive. The staff had kindly decorated the area with the banners and balloons that we had provided. There were fresh, spring flowers on the table and the service was excellent. We would highly recommend this cracking little pub where all are welcome, including dogs and children.

We visited The Compass Inn and had a delicious meal out. We arrived about 12.30 and the pub became very busy. I had the beef stroganoff and it needed to be warmer, but the lovely landlady quickly replaced the meal for a delicious hot one. My dad had the hunters chicken and my husband had an all day breakfast. All the meals were excellent. The atmosphere and ambiance was cosy and friendly. Even our dog Wesley was well looked after. Thank you for a lovely lunch and visit.

Vic and Ash run a superb local family friendly pub. Food is excellent and atmosphere second to none. If you are visiting the forest it’s a must stop on your tour!

Had read good reviews about the pub however felt disappointed & ripped off. Barmaid was very friendly but overworked needed another staff member whilst there at least at least 2 groups were turned away if had more staff wouldn't have been the case. Especially as half term they should have antisipated more trade.Felt sorry for the barmaid as she was very friendly. Menu for vegetarians practically non existent only toasted sandwich with chips available. Considering the price for ham egg & chips would have expected it to have come with peas/salad not just ham egg & chips

My mum and brother are coeliac and i was very disappointed to see that this restaurant is no longer 100% gluten free. This might not have been a problem but the menu is extremely limited even if you can eat gluten. This was such a gem to have found previously and a gap in the market too. My mum had a gluten free pie and was upset that the pastry was not nice at all. Service, for a less busy pub than it used to be, was also extremely slow. Definitely not the find it used to be!! Will unfortunately not be coming here again:(

Great home made roast couldn't fault it , and didn't have to wait long , great selection of veg gorgeous crispy roast potatoes yummy , and a great atmosphere, the new owners are really friendly and make you feel very much at home , will deffantly be returning .

This pub used to be amazing when it was 100% gluten-free. Sadly it is no longer, since new management has taken over. I sadly wasn't impressed with their selection of gluten-free dishes.
