I personally don’t rate this chippy,the food wasn’t nice at all…avoid!!!

Someone I know told me they often get their takaway fish and chips here I FEEL SORRY FOR THEM !! no wonder they are always miserable. Floury batter and chips that looked like they had been cooked days ago then microwaved, tasted like cardboard. First and last visit here !!!

Do not eat there. This is basic food hygiene and they could kill someone serving food like this. The chips were also clearly re fried. Staff were polite but all need re training before allowed to serve food here.

AVOID! Will report to food standards agency! Absolutely disgusting! Served me a mouldy bun, had they not shut at 2pm and me driving 7miles back to work I'd of returned!!! Who knows what else is being served up!

Was very shocking.. chip butty in a burger bun with chips that looked like there from 3 days ago did not attempt to eat straight in bin

Just moved down from kent and decided to get some food from the nearest chip shop. Got home with the food and the savaloy was just a normal sausage, the battered sausage tasted like fish and the chips was horrible. Never going back again.

Thank you to the two lads who were working at the chip shop last night. We put in a huge order and they dealt with it efficiently and quickly. When we got them back to the beach everyone was impressed how delicious they were. Highly recommend

Use to come here all the time as a kid and I'm glad they still open, recently they do the best chips. I definitely recommend the chips. Friendly staff and pricing is good!

Bought fish and chips for me and the wife , and I must admit it wasn’t very good, the chips were heated up old chips and the fish looked like something you could get from Iceland , not nice fresh battered cod . That cost me £ 22 Won’t be going there again sorry.

This place used to be amazing. Selection is good but the chips are always overcooked. They need to learn to blatch without colour 1st.

I've had chips from here on 3 occasions while on a weekend break. They were lovely chips! And recently had the 5£ lunchtime.cod and chips meal and the batter was light and the cod fluffy. Nice.

Gross! We had cod and chips with curry sauce for lunch and it was terrible. Chips recooked several times, cod coated in soggy, thick, pancake like butter and curry sauce was so reduced and loaded with spices that we could not stomach it. Will never go there again. Not sure how they are still in business.

i had gone to the fish and chip shop infront of gjs and they gave me cold chips and non melted cheese so i have gone to gjs to ask if they could heat it up so the heated it up for me and the survice there ia amazing i advise you to come here if you want fish and chips because it is cheap and amazing and all the othere bad reviews are fake it is amazing at gjs

I would not recommend this chip shop to anyone. They weren’t busy so that should have sent alarm bells straight away. The batter used must have been stood for hours. It was soggy and tasteless. The chips were reheated the pea fritters was done in the same batter so tasteless and the peas must have been the cheapest product on the market as was the Fish. The Fish was not fresh and had absolutely no taste. Even the salt and vinegar had no flavour. Awful meal not ever the dogs would eat any of it. Thrown away, not what we wanted. Will not go there again. If this app would let me it would be Zero stars

Give this a miss. I had cod and chips. The batter was over cooked and greasy. the cod was dry. The chips were O.K. but its a lost without the fish. I tried it because zoutorias was closed. So will not be going back.

Very friendly staff .£4.50 for cod and chips special . Perfect meal . Cod is fresh with a light crispy batter chips were good also not greasy. . Well done

We had fish and chips from here on our road trip whilst staying in the local area and found everything to be satisfactory. Lots to choose from the menu and the prices were competitive.

Paid over £30 for dinner it was horrible - the sausage under cooked, pie pastry was all soggy, both bits of fish oil dripping out of them, and very sure chips were yesterday re heated

Truthfully it was the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten the batter on the fish and sausage was raw and bland the wait was tremendously long. The chips were cold and the salt on the chips was very inconsistent one chip would be laced and the rest would be bland would not recommend

Went to buy a pensioners Cod and chips for my wife, on opening the box, we were faced with pretty cold and soggy chips, and the Cod batter was also almost just wet and not cooked through, with the batter mix inside not cooked at all! We telephoned them immediately, and was told they would freshly cook another meal. Went to collect it and it seemed hotter, went home, and dismantled the fish, and it was just as bad as the first! The batter was terrible, hardly any fish, just a greasy mess of uncooked batter mix with grease! We normally accept some occasional variations in cooked takeaways, but this was the worst we have ever seen. Suffice to say , we will not be going back!

Honestly if you want the best fish and chips in the area then shop no further this is the best.

It was my daughters 18th birthday and friends and family gathered on Calshot beach to celebrate. I emailed GJ Plaice and they couldn't be more helpful. All the food was piping hot, lovely and arranged in each families order to make it the perfect meal to accompany the celebrations. Many thanks

The worst takeaway I have ever had. I had to throw it away after a couple of mouthfuls, the batter was horrible. Very disappointed.

Freshly cooked and excellent portion size!

My friends took over the shop from November 2020. They are experienced fish and chips chef for years. Bigger fish, better chips and tasty curry sauce. The food quality and taste has been improved. Please see the picture for the large cod longer than a jumbo sausage and much wider than a spam fritter.

Best fish and chips around. I find with most places they are good at one thing and the rest is rubbish but I have found everything I’ve had from here to be cooked beautifully. Love stopping in on the way to the beach and taking them with me.

Awesome chips, nuggets and a burger

I went yesterday and walked in the shop and the man was being very rude to the customers. I then ordered and when I got my food the fish was horrible,greasy and dry. The chips had way to much salt and vinegar over them which made me feel ill. I am not going back .

Awful fish and chips! 1 large, 2 med fish, I asked for cod but not recognisable. With one pea fritter and one mushy peas with chips. Batter too thick, soggy on inside, fish more grey than white, reheated chips, some with edges like razor blades. £24.30 we threw most of this meal in the bin.

This place is one of the last standing original establishments in the waterside. It’s consistently good with great quality. Looks outdated inside but adds to the charm. Been going here since I was around 5 years old (25 years!!) It was my grandads favourite place. Only criticism is that they should bring back the fish burger they used to do.

Not as good as it once was it has to be said.Fish crispy and tasty and was a good size and price but the chips were dry old and plain nasty. I feel hopeful as the staff are friendly but don't have the customer focus as the last lot. I wish them luck.They need it.

Was passing through and wanted fish & chips, saw this place and thought would give it a try. Best I can say it was service with a snarl, no warm welcome not even a hello. Food was produced quickly but mix up on the drinks didn’t please the girl serving as I found out. Don’t worry about not getting any chips, the girl has enough on her shoulders for everyone. Real shame as the food was good but won’t bother spending my hard earned cash here again. I’ve given 3 stars based on the food only.

We have used this fish and chip shop for a number of years and in the past have classed their food as the best anywhere. You were guaranteed to get crispy batter on your fish and non greasy crisp chips. Since new people took it over possibly 3 months ago it is definitely not the same. We have tried it 2 or 3 times and found the batter on the fish to be soggy and greasy. Sorry but we will not be using it again.

Have just purchased 3 portions of cheesy chips - all I can is they must have run out of chips & cheese! The containers were less than half full & amount of cheese was pitiful. Very disappointed as usually very good.

Always use This Chippy. Always setved at the required temperature of 75C Great Menu Selection as well. Always plenty of Chips served even for a Small Portion. The Cod and Chips are lovely. The Dog lives the Chips from GJ's He wont eat any other Chips from other Takeaways, he loves them

Las patatas fritas, gambas, y las muchas otras cosas en el menú son normales pero comparado con otras tiendas de pescado en Blackfield holbury y es el lugar ideal para un bacalao medio y patatas fritas.

Nothing special. Fish OK. Large cod isnt great value as its nice and chunky one end but really thin at the other end. Staff are a bit confrontational when they get something wrong. Usual fast food chain served by hormonal teenagers.

We ran a trip for 56 young people to Calshot beach and wanted to pick up fish & chips, sausage & chips, and veggie burger & chips. GJ's fulfilled all the order perfectly that we rang up with a few hours in advance including gluten free portions. Very impressed with the friendly service and the food was very moorish.

Nice fish and chips, downside just don't give you enough and shuts early at 9pm, needs to stay open until 10pm.
