The Heath in New Forest

Jammy Red wine. I was charged £12 for a glass of wine. I should have just walked. A bottle is only £8 I have been in this pub previously and don't remember paying this amount.

We always enjoy our visit here. The food is good. The ambience is good. The service is good.

Very fast service and very tasty food

First time here and a great place. We didn't book but was told we could sit in the bar area and order food at the bar. We both had the mixed grill, I upgraded from the 4oz steak to the 8oz steak my wife didn't upgrade. When we got the food both of our steaks was upgraded to 8oz. The waitress said the chef was being generous by giving us both 8oz steaks. The food was fantastic. We have been back again and the food and staff are brilliant.

Had a table of 14 last week and everything was as usual at the Heath. Service was fantastic and the food was just as good. Been coming here for years and will continue to do so

Clean and bright with cheerful service. Very reasonable prices for simple lunchtime portions served promptly.

Usually really good but last visit was disappointing as not enough staff on (only two running both bar and restaurant.

What a disappointment 😟. Poor parking facilities ( the spaces are far too short for a standard family sized vehicles ( leaving the car vulnerable to other passing traffic in the car park). Interior was tired and lacked adequate lighting. Menu appeared very appetising but quality of food was extremely poor - chicken tikka curry lacked any chicken, and rice served cold. Burger and chips were minuscule with a microscopic portion of coleslaw. Mixed grill - very poor quality meat - the steak was so sinus it was inedible. Advised pub is up for sale - hope the new owners runner a better and more atmospheric pub. Definitely won’t be returning under current management.

Very small portion size. Over cooked steak full of fat and crissel. Frozen solid pudding. Place filthy requires total refurbishment. Yuk horrible.

Despite being situated on roundabout It's a nice venue, bar to one side and dining/restaurant area to the other. The greeting could have been a little better as there was three staff members having a chat at the bar and seemly ignoring us for a few minutes as we waited to be seated at entrance, just a polite acknowledgement or we'll be with you in a moment would have sufficed. We was shown to our seats and offered drinks, given menus and asked if we had any allergies, we then ordered which went without a hiccup. The one issue we had was my mother ordered a steak medium and it was definitely on the very rare side we pointed this out and the staff member was very apologetic and to their credit said they would get you a new one, the only issue being that my mother would then have to eat alone as our food was already on the table and if we waited would have been stone cold. Other than that the food was decent enough without ripping up any trees, not overly priced, good enough portion sizes and the staff were polite and attentive. Would I go back? probably yes, I certainly wouldn't discard it as an option just a few creases to iron out and I think it would be good.

Visited for lunch, didn’t book but managed to get a table. The restaurant area was quite busy but we were served promptly by Jill. We chose from the day time offer menu which despite being very reasonably priced contained a good variety of dishes. We had a starter and main and were pleased with the quality of both again despite the very keen price. Jill was very pleasant and efficient. Definitely would use the Heath again for a budget lunch. Great value and really good quality.

We went there with my partner to enjoy a quiet evening. They were busier then I thought they would be, so it turned out as not so quiet, but the food was still amazing. Piping hot. We had the smothered chicken and the smothered platter. Silly me I ordered the stake wrong, they did not hesitate to take it back, even if it was my fault. Brilliant staff and delicious food.

This pub is lovely. Food is good quality, value for money and the servers are very friendly and professional. Definitely recommend it.

Waited 10 min to be seated. Another 5 min standing by the bar waiting for someone to take my order. 30 min for the food to be served !!! Horrible service!!! It was not busy at all and I was by myself !!

Cerys our server was lovely, patient and efficient, she knew what we wanted before we even sat down, what a great meal. Value and easy booking was a bonus and the warm restaurant was welcoming and comfortable.

Had a nice meal here on a Sunday. Very popular place I would say as it was very busy. The food came with not too much waiting. Would definitely recommend

No real ales and problems with paying and their WiFi is non existence. Gave me a loyalty card and could not log on, Haha Walked out in disgust.

Came here for lunch last week, as this was only our second visit here (our first not being that pleasant either), we decided to give it another try. Food took about 45 minutes to come out (it wasn't busy). And when it did come out, the onion rings tasted of pure chemicals, jacket potato was hard and when we went to pay we complained - unfortunately I can't remember the name of the member of staff but she had short black hair possibly early 40s, she was unnecessarily rude, we were polite with our complaints and she rolled her eyes and was sarcastic in her replies, almost laughing when she responded. She then went away to the kitchen to tell the chefs and then came back super lovely and took the mains off our bill, drastic mood change and we left feeling very unsatisfied and confused.

There is not enough choice for vegetarians. Vegetable lasagne ( unavailable ) and two others. Not good enough!

when we got there the staff where rude when they talked to us they wouldn’t even look at us we ordered nachos and they came out freezing cold and they tasted like they had been left out the whole day

It's a typical pub grub place that we often visit when I'm at my sister's. Compared to my last visit I personally feel it has declined a bit. Though that could be due to some noted logistic problems.

Come in for Christmas Party and drinks and appreciated the attentiveness of Josh our Waiter who couldn’t have done enough for us. He was not only attentive but entertaining - the only thing that lets him down is his Football team he supports!?! Matt was n the bar was also of the same ilk - attentive and funny but supported the right Football team!?! Worth a revisit as has been through some difficult times recently.

Worst Xmas lunch ever! Soggy potatoes, undercooked veggies packet gravy and not even proper turkey. Not to mention a plate swimming with water….yuck. Disappointed and angry they ruined Christmas for us. Nice one chef. As locals we shall avoid like the plague in future

Just left Xmas lunch. Appalling. It was so bad we never even stayed for pudding. The turkey was reconstituted roll, the veg was undercooked and inedible, the roast potatoes had not an ounce of crisp, the gravy was packet gravy and I literally had to pour the excess water off my plate before I could even start. And all this for £50 a head. The worst meal I’ve had this year by a country mile. Avoid avoid avoid

absolutely appalling. I am utterly disgusted with everything about this place. The women who was serving us clearly isn’t bothered by customers and lacks the most basic service skills and customer care. We waited 15 minutes to be asked what drinks we would like and then waited another 45 minutes just for our drinks. This should have been a sign to run! Our server was extremely half- arsed and clearly didn’t want to be here. The food arrived cold and was absolutely revolting i wouldn’t even feed it to my dog. You could tell that the food had been frozen and microwaved it was disgusting. pigs in blankets looked like they were cooked on a radiator (barely cooked) and everything about the food was just point blank gross. i wouldn’t reccomend here at all!!! they have awful music and dim lighting extremely awful atmosphere. The gentleman who served us our desserts has a huge smile on his face which was nice to see so thankyou to him! a nice change compared to the grinch of a server we had before.

terrible service. Waited 45 minutes for our drink. There is 4 other tables sat service is absolutely shocking. The lady that served us had a stinking attitude, everything she said was sarcastic. Had trouble booking a table elsewhere and eventually decided on the Heath due to its locality to everyone. On arrival we waited in the entrance for a few minutes before our host directed us to our table. The place was cold with no heating on and you would have thought that we were on the Marie Celeste as there was only one other table occupied by guests. Drinks were ordered and duly delivered although one of the cokes was totally flat. We were given a printed list of what was not available on the menu and our host notified us that they had got some food in from Tesco’s as they were short of food. Highly encouraging. Orders were placed Rump Steak medium, 2 mixed grills 2 pizzas and a gammon steak. We then sat for about 20 minutes in a cold room with no background music and it was quite dismal. Food arrived and on looking at the meals it was disheartening. My steak looked to be well done and I asked for some mustard to enhance the meat flavour. Surprise surprise sorry we have no mustard to which I replied I am hardly surprised. Well we all quickly realised that our meals were of a very poor standard. My steak was cooked to death and was tasteless and the presentation was very poor. The gammon steak was like a thick rasher of bacon the pizzas were with little topping and it was commented that were these Tesco pizzas with a bit of topping added. The mixed grills again were overcooked and poorly presented. When our host came to clear the table our thoughts were passed on to him and he said that he would come back to us. He returned in due course offering a 50% discount on the bill. We begrudgingly accepted this offer and paid up and left never to return. I must say that the host was very understanding and professional. Such a shame as the Heath used to be a buzzing venue serving half decent food. Things have definitely gone downhill.

Avoid this place for your festive meal. You'll get better food at mcdonalds. The Roast turkey is basically burnard matthew slices. The burger is a weird tiny frozen patty, some stone cold bernard matthews slices and a cheap Sasuage cut in half... and some other festive items aren't available. Avoid Avoid Avoid

Have not been to this place for about 6.years and it wasn't great then either. We all choose of the festive menu pre oredered. Turned up to be told one of the starters was not available, fair enough ordered something else, however when thw food started coming out what was on the menu was definitely not what was served on the plate in fact it was less but they still had the nerve to charge a supplement for things that where not there. How this place is still running is beyond me. I will not be returning for a meal!

Used a voucher for lunch, husband said the Chicken and Ham pie was full of meat and very tasty, I had Haddock and chips, the fish was good and a large piece, but the batter was wafer thin, and none on the bottom in places, no way would have called it beer batter. If we hadn’t had a voucher to use, I would have not been happy with my meal at full price. Not up to their usual standard of food. Restaurant looking very old and tatty and furniture needs a good wash door and a lick of paint everywhere.

It’s seldom failed to meet our expectations. The welcome is always friendly, the service good and the food tastes good. What’s not to like? Well, for one Whitbread have reduced the choices on the menu, which is still quite comprehensive but a couple of our favourites have gone. Having said that though, it hasn’t out us off going and we hope that rumours of it being sold / closed are false.

Had a very pleasant meal with ten friends, the food was very good and all ten meals arrived at the same time. Our server Kat was extremely kind and didn’t hurry us. Would definitely recommend.

My family consisting of 5 visited the Heath for lunch tofay which I have to say was excellent. The staff were warm and friendly and the service was great. The choices on the menu were vast and tasted great. I visited the heath over the years and each time the food gets better. Well done.

Have been for lunch both yesterday and today whilst visiting from the Midlands. 6 yesterday and 4 today. Can't fault the food or service. From the club sandwich to the sausage and mash were exceptional. Value you for money is up there with the best I've had...might even go again tomorrow!

Lovely pub located just to the edge of the New Forest. They have an offer for lunchtime which is very reasonably priced (2 meals for £12). Staff have always been friend when we visit, very spacious and the garden is nice.

Sadly, I believe it's closing. It's busy probably because the food is cheap however so are the ingredients.

Ian served us and was very polite and friendly. He happily showed us to a quiet seated area when I told him that we were both autistic and would need some quieter seats. He apologised for delays and made sure we were enjoying our food. He worked really hard all evening with so many customers to see to!

As usual we stopped for an evening meal after a hard working day , able to book ok and enjoyed a nice starter and mains. Good value for money. Always busy but friendly staff

We had excellent table service from Katherine,food was hot and quick arriving,always attentive and quick to bring drinks and condiments,I think this lady needs a special mention.Very enjoyable and my friends from Rowlands Castle were most impressed.

We were in the area and had a discount voucher for main meal reduction so had a starter and mains plus a large drink each and after deal deducted paid £41 Service and food quality were excellent and having been here many times in the past as we previously lived locally we can say we miss coming to the heath always a good meal, atmosphere, service and value for money

Visited on August bank holiday Monday. Didn't have half the things on the menu, blamed no delivery on the bank holiday. Other pubs plan for a bank holiday!! They watch people stand at the door looking at the menu before sitting down, even though the kitchen closes at 2:30pm and they do not advise people, not even a sign to let anyone know. Woman behind bar had no people skills at all. Very off putting and will never return.

Visited the Heath for a lunch and received a friendly team smile from the staff Inesa and Claire. The food was served quicky within 15 minutes of ordering and the Spicy Burger was delicious. Very happy with the service, food and friendiness of this place.

Lovely staff, really great food. The only thing was loos were stinky, and the scary entrance/exit straight off the roundabout. If you are visiting PLEASE TAKE CARE!

Me, my husband and children enjoyed our recent visit here, and had great customer service from Ian. I really hope this establishment goes under and turns into something else other than a restaurant. I have known this place since it was Charlie Chalks many years ago, and it's usually been more good than bad when visiting. I hope that the new chapter for this place turns into a restaurant that provides a play area for children such as it did back in the 90's and 00's. Katsu Chips were good

food was good, well what got served up. all our side extras that we orderd never arrived and when we asked about them we were told they were being cooked fresh so we waited and waited then we had finished our meals so didn't want the sides so when another waitress came round we said to take them off the bill she told us they hadn't been orderd anywa But in general food was good but not great service.

Absolutely disgusted with this place me and the family went for a meal out here and it's definitely not kid friendly outside there was smashed glass on the table and on the grass the staff didn't care whatsoever and kept going past it also the people that work there look like they don't want to work there and always end up having moody expressions on their faces I would definitely not recommend this place to anybody!

Yes it was well worth the trip back to the health good pub food and some good offers on the staff were very helpful and friendly and it was very clean and tidy and very busy

For the price the food was terrible. Menu stated chips and we got fries (there is a difference) prawn cocktail was requested without cucumber (we got cucumber) bread was stale. Thai vegetable curry said it came with broccoli and bamboo shoots there were a few chunks of sweet potato and hundreds of peas and definitely not Thai. Not a chance we will eat here again.

My meal was superb, but I dropped a star as the friends I was with are vegetarian,and though they enjoyed the Thi curry, said they have had better.We all agreed that we couldn't fault dessert,all portions were generous.

Great value for money. Food and service is always fantastic. We go regularly and it is always great. Ian is great and has always been amazing every time we visit. We have heard that this lovely place may possibly close if management have there way! Shocking decision if so. It’s places like this that keep Britain as Britain. Such a shame if so and management should hang there head in shame if so!

Every so often, I give this place another chance. Last time is definitely my last time. Never again. It’s continued to be poor every time I’ve been. The food is awful, overcooked and bland. The staff, are pretty rude too. The place was empty so it’s not as if it was rammed and could understand frustration at being at work. The bacon was transparent and had no taste to it, the gammon also had no taste to it, chips over done and tasted stale. All together another disappointing visit.

Booked a table for 4 adults at 4 pm - then 2 extra turned up - restaurant was virtually empty - asked if ok for the extra two and was told that the table we used for the extra two was booked - hmmm only one table for two in the whole empty restaurant? The waitress must have been having a bad day as her face did not crack a smile once! Food was over cooked - and bland - yes it’s a cheap eatery but you would Hope that service would at least be good - the other waitress who looked after us in the end was much more pleasant - won’t be going back any time soon

Not the best Sunday roast as google says. But at £10.49 it's OK.

I booked having googled for best Sunday lunch in Southampton. It wasn't. Wrong potatoes used for Roasties and a cheap cut of beef overcooked despite being first through the door. Wines priced well. Majority of customers were over 60,s. Still at £10.49 ,what do you expect.

Great meal, highly recommend and steak or mixed grill and all at very reasonable price for what you get.

Food was good and very reasonably priced. Service was good tho we had to ask twice for water and then only got 1 glass of it. It would have been good to be asked if we all wanted some or better still provided with jug and glasses!

Went for a meal on Friday night very disappointed with the service, one off are dishes was sent back as it was stone called, there was no apologise or anything, very disappointed as normally we have good service on other occasions we have been there 😔

Great pub, with very affordable prices. I would say the prices of 2022 and not 2024. The quality of the food was great. Pork ribs were very tender, falling of the bones and grilled chicken breast was so succulent. The interior is a bit shabby and in great need of renovation, but service was fast and friendly.

Just came from the Heath having had my Birthday meal there with my wife and children. The food was excellent and we were looked after by Ian, who made sure we were catered for. Adding to the great experience. Thank you Ian and the rest of the staff.

We were welcomed by Ian who very kindly moved us to a table further from the door to avoid the icy draught when the door opened. We both had a delicious roast dinner and I had a Knickerbocker Glory for afters which was lovely. In spite of the Heath being really busy today, we were served quite promptly and everything was piping hot, except the Knickerbocker Glory of course 😉

Right idk where to start this place always used to be good. Good management and good food. Now there’s a new manager and everything changed food has changed it’s gone down hill don’t think I will be coming back

First time eating here and couldn't fault it. Food looked appetising was hot and a generous amount. Staff were happy and helpful. Our waitress Lauren really shone and we will definitely be eating here again.
