Unfortunately, what we thought would be a lovely meal out turned to be incredibly disappointing and underwhelming. We arrived to barely anyone inside and asked to be by the fire, but were put near the kitchen instead. I ordered the venison pie (recommended by the young waitress) which came out with the crust inedible and microwaved to death, it was hard, burnt, and despite the meat tasting okay, some of it was chewy and hard. The ‘veg’ was a single stone cold carrot, on a bed of luke warm mash, with stone cold cabbage. The gravy was clearly out of a packet and barely warm either. I knew if I sent it back it would just be remicrowaved and the crust was already burnt, so I ate what I could, but when I mentioned it to the waiter, he was incredibly nonchalant, and the general vibe from both him and the waitress was incredibly arrogant and disrespectful. I overheard the young girl mocking diners while running in and out of the kitchen. The worst service and food I’ve ever received at a pub to date. We couldn’t wait to leave and will not be going again! Incredibly disappointing and bad vibes. Should’ve read the reviews beforehand as it’s clear others have had an almost identical experience!

1 Overnight stay, 6 Dec 2024. The hosts are fantastic, attentive without being in your face all the time. For breakfast we had eggs benidict and they were perfect, the best I have had in the UK. Room was clean, nicely styled and the bed was comfy. Highly recommend a stay here.

Had a wonderful overnight stay, Martin, who seemed to do just about everything was an exceptional host and manager. We had lunch in the restaurant on Friday, menu was varied and offered a good selection of meals, our choices were prepared cooked and served beautifully. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay in or around the New Forest.

We just had a fantastic meal at this lovely New Forest pub. The chef, Simon makes the best lamb rump I've tasted in ages. And the pies (particularly the venison) is brilliant. Thanks to to Martyn for making us feel so welcome Definitely coming back!

The whole experience at the Filly was perfect. Great atmosphere and location. The staff all seemed to enjoy working there and were positive, efficient and very welcoming. Room was a good size, had great walk-in shower and very comfy bed. There was a really good selection of teas and coffees. Also the selection of toiletries and extra items, such as razor, toothbrush and pillow mist, was excellent. We booked for three nights B&B and the breakfasts were excellent. Quality sausages and bacon, poached eggs were perfect and scrambled eggs were rich and creamy. We ate there for the three evenings and again food consistently tasty and of good quality. Slow braised lamb shepherds pie was so rich and tasty. Also the cherry compote with ice cream and waffles was so good I had it two evenings! Definitely a place to visit, location perfect for getting bus if you just want to leave car there. Bus straight through to Southampton in hour.

The food was great but the owner/ manager was insulting and rude. First of all when my grandson’s legs wouldn’t fit under a table due to it having a ledge around it we asked if we could move tables ( the place was empty) he said a table is a table so move if you must, secondly we asked if they did garlic bread as my eight year old granddaughter enjoys it as a starter and he scoffed at us saying ‘this isn’t a Harvester’ and we don’t have processed grated cheese (we didn’t ask for cheese garlic bread and surely any chef can make a price garlic bread! He was condescending to say the least - and for his information we have never ate at a Harvester but I’m sure their staff would be better mannered. Unfortunately my family and I were too taken aback to challenge him. Then throughout the meal he was stood in the restaurant talking very loudly on his phone - a totally rude man! Maybe he just does not like people from the north and thinks we live on fast food restaurant food? However he does have an excellent chef as the food was very good.

Really terrific historic inn. One of the best I've stayed in and I've stayed in a few. Perfect blend of history and modernity, room was great with huge super comfy bed, terrific shower and even fabulous condiments, not your usual nescafe and custard creams. Food was fantastic, great breakfast and best Calamari I've tasted. Staff super friendly and helpful, loved listening to their ghosty tales (the highwayman said to haunt the place). The whole interior was delightful, plenty of comfy chairs unlike so many places with their restauranty feel. First class in every way, will be back for sure. Minor niggle, no do not disturb sign in bedroom but a great two night stay overall.

Came here twice for dinner whilst staying on the local campsite. Very good service, tempting menu and high quality food cooked well for reasonable prices. The only downside was the lack of atmosphere in the dining room and rather bland decor and furniture.

Disappointing experience. Went for Sunday roast. Young staff were not very welcoming and not briefed on the menu. I ordered the lamb rump which the waitress did not know was available & was looking at the printed menu for it. I told her it was on the blackboard & asked if it came with the Sunday roast sides. She did not know and had to ask another member of staff. We could see our food on the pass but it was not brought to us for a considerable time despite staff walking past. We were not asked if we would like to try our wine, it was just poured. The lamb was quite tough & hard to cut and I didn’t enjoy it at all although my friend enjoyed her pork. Vegetables were ok but the Yorkshires were cold. There was a hair on my plate (definitely not mine) which I’m not surprised about as one of the waitresses had long loose hair which she regularly flicked and touched. There was minimal gravy on the food so we asked for more. We were shocked when the bill came by the £1 charge for this and the service charge which we asked to be removed as we felt the service was indifferent and unwelcoming.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Filly Inn and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The menu offered a delightful variety of dishes, and everything we ordered was nothing short of spectacular. The trout was particularly impressive, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The ingredients tasted fresh, and it was evident that the chefs take great pride in their craft. Additionally, the portion sizes were generous, ensuring great value for the price. The service was equally commendable. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations. The staff worked seamlessly together, ensuring that our needs were met promptly without feeling rushed. It truly enhanced the overall dining experience. The ambiance of the pub was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of comfort and style. Whether you're looking for a casual meal with friends or a cozy dinner date, the Filly provides the ideal setting. Overall, I highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy outstanding food and service. Our three night stay was absolutely amazing. The room we stayed in looked stunning. We booked a table initially outside, and on arival we were given dirty menus and told to order at the bar. We ordered a starter to share (hummus and flatbread), which we have had before. This time, it arrived slopped onto the plate and the flatbread looking like it had been ripped up by hand. Really unappetising presentation. No side plates were provided either. The mains arrived, burger and chips, the chips had been reheated multiple times and were tasteless bits of tough cardboard. They were returned and swiftly replaced with the same but hotter dry cardboard chips. The burger was completely inedible. The waitress asked if everything was OK, to which we shared our feedback. The meal was taken off the bill by Ella who looked embarrassed by our experience. It's unfortunate but we would never return based on the dire kitchen /food and perceived cleanliness issue. Real shame as its our local!

Our room had everything we needed, along with some lovely touches like homemade biscuits, fresh milk, lovely amenity packs and fabulous body wash etc. The food was incredible. We had quite a bad experience at the Filly. The quality of the food was just awful. We had a roast dinner, the potatoes had clearly been reheated several times to the point of not even being able to cut them. The veg was very much under cooked. The creamed leaks had no cream. The stuffing was the size of an old 10p piece and the chicken was dry and over cooked. The staff were clearly not motivated to provide a warm welcome and something that does annoy me personally is when a restaurant automatically puts on a service charge especially when you do NOT get a good service.

We had been driving past The Filly Inn for a while, we bit the bullet and stopped. Glad we did as we found a lovely pub with very cheerful staff giving us a warm welcome. Food was good and hot and we didn't have to wait long. We had a dog with us which was no problem and the pub has doggy biscuits for you to take. We returned again and sat in the lovely covered area in their large garden and again were met with a nice greeting and had Chicken bits and a couple of Bowls of Chips that were nice and hot. Would recommend this pub.

Visited today. Lovely pub with fantastic garden area. Only disappointment was the 6oz steak sandwich I had. It was neither a sandwich or 6oz steak. Thin strips of over cooked steak (asked for medium) on a piece of bread. A steak sandwich should be just that, steak in a sandwich. It shouldn’t be hard.

An impromptu anniversary dinner; despite the restaurant being fully booked, we were welcomed and encouraged to choose one of the delightful nooks in the adjoining bar, where we ordered from the same menu. We expected a wait, but the service was very swift for the starters: delightful pork cubes with chili apple sauce, and tasty chicken strips with mayonnaise. We both chose pies for main; a shredded slow-cooked lamb shepherd's and a chicken and ham-hock in short crust. Once again, the service was spot-on and the quality was fabulous. Add a good range of desserts, some interesting ales on tap (and some intriguing cocktails), plus friendly efficient service and a large outside space... and I would HIGHLY recommend this lovely pub! Thanks for a great evening, Filly Inn!!

Arrived without a booking and was glad to get a room. Room 4 actually has no windows just two velux skylights that could not be opened due to rain, so it was a little warm for me. Nice bathroom and I actually slept well. Breakfast not quite as fabulous as the very personable landlord had promised, but I don’t eat eggs or beans which didn’t leave much on the English breakfast. The main attraction is that they are dog friendly and brought my dog sausages for breakfast so she’ll definitely be back. Septic tank in garden could probably do with emptying.

Nice pub, pleasant outdoor seating area. Served quickly and staff were very nice too. Food was lukewarm on arrival but we were hungry so just ate it. My fishfinger sandwich was two dry pieces of unbuttered bread, lettuce and small piece of fish, it was tasteless. Pork bites were soft too. Chips looked like they had been reheated and full of ‘end ‘ bits. Took 5 minutes to come so we knew it had not been cooked fresh. Cost with drinks was almost £40. I know we should have complained at the time, but we had just started our mini break and just thought we were a bit unlucky. Maybe we were??

Perfect location to walk into the forest, but that’s as far as positives go. Room extremely hot and noisy, not the cleanest or best maintained, service was not great- everything was an inconvenience, food was ok however burger was burnt and certainly not worth £16 but due to being remote and unable to eat outside food at the hotel due to hotel rules, we didn’t have much of a choice. I wouldn’t necessarily say dog friendly- didn’t witness any of the things others did (dog treats, dog shampoo), shame as the “dog friendly reviews” were the reason we stayed here. May have just been a bad week as some others reviews were far from what we saw, but personally wouldn’t return to stay or to eat.

Oh my… if you haven’t joined the filly inn for the monthly Saturday excursion with lots of local furry friends- it’s one to do! After a lovely bacon butty and latte and a few lovely local doggie treats - you set off for a guided walk with Holly and Dave and a heap of eager waggy tails for a 3-4 mile walk - fun had by all - in both the rain and the sunshine! After all our energy used up from the walk - get back to a great lunch or a cold thirst quenching pint:-) and a bowl of fresh cold water and a muddy wash down for the little ones. Having stayed at the hotel and joined the walk - the pub has lots of treats for furry friends and I really think one of the most friendly and welcoming pubs/hotel in the New Forest that makes an real difference to socialising with your dog! Something to look forward to every last Saturday of the month by my two furry doggies and me! PS the bacon butty is fab - Thank you!

Probably the worst experience we have had! We quite often spend weekends away, but this time we wanted to take the dog with us and this seemed to be the perfect access point to the forest! Please don't be fooled by this places reviews, dog tolerant yes, friendly I'm not so sure. Maybe it was at one time but it is not nomore, disappointing considering this is why we booked here. There was no "dog sausage" or "dog shampoo". Had to be hosed with freezing cold water in the rain before being allowed in, none of the staff seemed like dog lovers and felt very unwelcoming. Everything was too much trouble. Was not allowed to eat our own food in the room, nor were we allowed to eat their food in our room. Our whole weekend was ruined by the inability to sleep due to the sweltering temperatures which could only be controlled with air con, granted it was a Dyson unit but not even that could cool the temperatures of here due to broken windows that could not be opened. Not only this, the light came in as blinds were also broken, also the sound of scurrying all night long and passing traffic which obviously they cannot be blamed for but makes for a poor experience. We were moved room but this one didn't differ much from the first in terms of cleanliness. The place has potential, is decorated nicely but sloppy service, poor rules and lack of cleanliness (lots of dust and mouldy shower) lets this place down! Wouldn't return and would have rather paid slightly more elsewhere and had a pleasant weekend! Also, make sure to check prices as I paid £214 for 2 nights via booking.com and have now seen that they are up for sale for 3 nights for £189!

Ordered two club sandwiches at £12.50 each. They arrived with no side additions like a few crisps or fries. The sandwiches were barely toasted and as for whatever the mayonnaise was, seemed to be runny and tasteless. Hardly any chicken evident, and was not slices...

We had popped in purely to try the Korean sesame-fried chicken burger with Asian-slaw, as it sounded so very wonderful, but... alas... what we ended up with was just 2No. run-of-the-mill deep-fried chicken-burgers instead, with none of the taste, excitement or flavours, that the name...

Three of us for lunch. Two of us had three courses though the dessert came with coffee and was therefore a mini. Food was good though can't recall the details. We came here for lunch last Christmas and were not disappointed on our return.

Tasty food and a well stocked bar. We sat in the lovely beer garden, which also welcomes dogs. From a cost point of view prices are in line with others in the New Forest.

Visited for family lunch just before New Year. Most of the menu choices advertised on the website were unavailable. Despite ordering standard pub grub from a very limited menu, food took an hour to arrive. Another couple got fed up waiting and walked out. No-one asked if meal was ok. Overpriced for the quality delivered. This pub will need to seriously up its game if it wants to survive after its refurbishment.

We have just had the best pub Sunday roast for a long time at the Coach and Horses! The food was delicious and hot and plentiful. Al dente vegetables, tender meats and excellent Yorkshire puddings! The waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive and we've had a lovely time. Thank you all

We love meeting up here for food as ideal location just off the M27 although you would think you were in the middle of the countryside. The food is fabulous and the curry's are so fresh and tasty. I had the Chicken Shashlik Masala and it was full of large pieces of chicken, lovely and spicy and fresh. Absolutely delicious. My friend has the Lamb Rogan Josh and couldn't finish it as the portion was so generous.
