We decided to have lunch on our way home and we hit the jackpot. Totally amazing Indian dishes. The children had the Old Delhi Chicken Curry. It was so tasty and mild at the same time. I could define it as the best Korma I've ever had. Me and my husband had the Chicken shashlik Masala. The best and tastiest and authentic curry. The peshwari nans were delicious as were the rice sides and poppadoms and the sauces. We will definitely come here again. What a shame they don't have such authentic restaurants near London anymore. Highly recommended! Wonderful service too.

We made a pit stop here for lunch on our way from Sussex to Devon. We've stopped here before, when it was an ordinary pub and were astonished to find that it was now an Indian restaurant! Hadn't bargained on having a curry for lunch, but I'm so glad we did! I had the paneer Kadai and my husband had the Dak Bungalow lamb curry, both with plain rice. We shared a peshawari naan and for dessert we shared the gulab jamun. All were exquisite - fresh, tasty and hands down the best curry we have ever tasted! Absolutely delicious! They do some pub classics and kids' meals too - can't comment on those as we all had curry, but the curries are outstanding!

We didn’t realise this gorgeous traditional looking pub specialised in Indian cuisine, so we’re pleasantly surprised as we love a curry. We had the best curry we’ve ever had, and we’ve tried most of the local Indian restaurants (that are also excellent!). We had my daughter with us who loved the kids menu as there was a choice of chicken nuggets, pizza and more, and she loved the pizza. We will definitely be back! There’s also a traditional pub menu for those who don’t like curry.

Great location, literally only less than 5 minutes off the motorway with easy leaving and rejoining. As others have said, what a great find and probably one of the most authentic Indian meals we have had in the uk. Good value too. Has a normal pub grub menu as well as Indian.

Very disappointing! Arrived for Mothers Day to be presented with a 3 course Indian Menu & no alternatives! This was not mentioned when we booked. We left, there were only 3 tables in the pub. I expect the menu and lack of choice and information explains this.

Excellent service. Clean, large modern looking pub on the inside and stunning country style looking on the outside. A drink selection with 3 ales I think there were. There was a British standard pub menu with kids option but also a very good Authentic Indian menu too. The best Indian I have had in years actually. I recommend the Goan Cod Curry. The rice is cooked perfectly too. Naan bread was also the best i have ever had too. Clean toilets. Family friendly. Very friendly service. Dog friendly too. Reasonably priced with good portion size too. Really worth the trip out there. I will be going back despite it being a 55 minute drive. Been coming here on and off for 40 years. The current iteration is largely Indian based cuisine which does not disappoint. The place is the same, they still serve pub grub most of the year but it leans towards Indian cuisine. We have been here several times, and the staff are always welcoming, especially the chef. He personally came out to ask if we had enjoyed the meal and made a suggestion for a traditional Indian dessert, which was delicious and home made. Don't be put off by the plain decor of this pub, as it really is a little gem, hidden off the main road. It has plenty of room for large families. There is a garden with awnings for the heat of the summer sun, and in the winter they have a lovely open fire roaring. We haven't been disappointed yet.

Fantastic evening out, first time coming since the change in hand and it being half pub food and half Indian. Service was spot on and was left to our own device to allow time to decide on what we wanted to eat. The waiters would walk around and keep an eye out and are always on hand when you’re ready. The chef made an appearance once we was settled with our main dishes to make sure everything was okay and if we needed anything else. This was a lovely added touch as you don’t get this often in places. The food was hot and fresh, served with clean plates cups and cutlery and good sized portions. All 4 of us(adults) chose from the "Indian menu" with a mix array of starters to share and separate mains. Underwhelming. While it advertises pub food in addition to it's Indian menu, please do not go here for the former. My burger patties with accompanying bacon were extremely undercooked. The waiter seemed surprised when I mentioned it, even though he could see the food was too light in colour: there was no apology or suggestion to rectify the problem. We sat in an alcove at a table with a massive wine stain on the chair; it felt a bit disconcerting as it was so massive and they could have replaced it. They did not have the dessert we requested from the menu nor did they have espresso. And no desire to assist in suggesting alternatives. They just seemed very unbothered about customer service with us. My husband had Indian food and said it was fine, so I think I should have ordered from the Indian menu as well. It was not a good experience, and I felt a bit bad as it was meant to be a birthday meal.

Our visit to The Sir John Barleycorn in Cadnam was nothing short of fantastic! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by the warm and inviting ambiance of this charming pub. The blend of traditional decor with modern comforts made it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The menu was impressive, offering a variety of mouth-watering options. I decided to try the steak and ale pie, and it was delicious – the pastry was perfectly flaky, and the filling was rich and flavourful. My friend had the seafood platter, which was fresh and beautifully presented. Both dishes were generous in portion and tasted amazing. The service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about our dining experience. They were happy to accommodate our requests and even recommended some excellent local ales to complement our meals. The dessert was the highlight of our evening. We shared a homemade apple crumble with custard, and it was the perfect end to a wonderful meal – comforting, sweet, and utterly satisfying. My late wife and I used to eat here regularly and our favourite was the pie of the day. Freshly cooked i a large tray and a portion was about 3 inches by 3 inches and about 2 inches high. Went there recently with my son and we both had pie of the day. What arrived was what looked like a commercially made pie sat on a small amount of mashed potato and some green vegetables. The only good thing was that there was a reasonable amount of beef in the pie.
