Amazing Indian food, really lovely. However the service was very poor. We had to ask twice for someone to take our order and again, had to go and find a waiter to ask for coffee. We went on a Monday lunchtime so it was very quiet, but the staff should have checked that we had everything we needed instead of us having to ask,

Fantastic evening out, first time coming since the change in hand and it being half pub food and half Indian. Service was spot on and was left to our own device to allow time to decide on what we wanted to eat. The waiters would walk around and keep an eye out and are always on hand when you’re ready. The chef made an appearance once we was settled with our main dishes to make sure everything was okay and if we needed anything else. This was a lovely added touch as you don’t get this often in places. The food was hot and fresh, served with clean plates cups and cutlery and good sized portions. I would defiantly recommend and will be coming back.

I've found myself coming back here regularly in recent months to eat from their Indian menu. Everything has been delicious, well cooked and good portions. Currently my favorite Indian locally. Highly recommend.

We live in Poole, and always visit Sir John Barleycorn, when near by or passing. The food is exceptional Especially the Indian menu. The chef is very pleasant and happy gentleman. Our particular favourite is the (lamb and spinach) Dak Bungalow Gosht.

Amazing food! We recently had dinner here after hearing good reviews and we weren't disappointed!! All 4 of us(adults) chose from the "Indian menu" with a mix array of starters to share and separate mains. The standard and quality was amazing, food portions were just right and came out within a good amount of time considering when we ordered nearly all the tables in the restaurant were full!(Thursday eve) The staff were attentive and friendly and happy to change some dishes to suit tastes. I'd definitely recommend the Sir John Barleycorn if your looking for a taste sensation in the New Forest!! We will definitely be going back! Well done to all the staff!

Excellent food with good food. It was very quiet when we visited midweek daytime.

Underwhelming. While it advertises pub food in addition to it's Indian menu, please do not go here for the former. My burger patties with accompanying bacon were extremely undercooked. The waiter seemed surprised when I mentioned it, even though he could see the food was too light in colour: there was no apology or suggestion to rectify the problem. We sat in an alcove at a table with a massive wine stain on the chair; it felt a bit disconcerting as it was so massive and they could have replaced it. They did not have the dessert we requested from the menu nor did they have espresso. And no desire to assist in suggesting alternatives. They just seemed very unbothered about customer service with us. My husband had Indian food and said it was fine, so I think I should have ordered from the Indian menu as well. It was not a good experience, and I felt a bit bad as it was meant to be a birthday meal.

Our visit to The Sir John Barleycorn in Cadnam was nothing short of fantastic! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by the warm and inviting ambiance of this charming pub. The blend of traditional decor with modern comforts made it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The menu was impressive, offering a variety of mouth-watering options. I decided to try the steak and ale pie, and it was delicious – the pastry was perfectly flaky, and the filling was rich and flavourful. My friend had the seafood platter, which was fresh and beautifully presented. Both dishes were generous in portion and tasted amazing. The service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about our dining experience. They were happy to accommodate our requests and even recommended some excellent local ales to complement our meals. The dessert was the highlight of our evening. We shared a homemade apple crumble with custard, and it was the perfect end to a wonderful meal – comforting, sweet, and utterly satisfying. If you’re in Cadnam and looking for a place with excellent food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere, The Sir John Barleycorn is a must-visit. We can’t wait to return!

We got there when there was only another couple there, so it was a bit quite, but there's loads of room inside and outside. Place was very clean and the service perfect The chef even came out to discuss dietary concerns and the food was on time and tasted great. Would go back very easily. Beautiful place.

The staff are lovely. It's good that they have a choice between authentic Indian cuisine and traditional pub cuisine.

Great to have a traditional pub combined with a fantastic Indian restaurant. Also serves pub food, so if you are out with a group of people with different tastes you have the best of all worlds!! Food was delicious! Friendly and attentive service. Chef comes out to say help too!

We hadn’t been here for a while but the food and service was very good. We had a traditional Sunday Roast dinner and it was very tasty. We will be going again to try the Indian restaurant

Can't fault it. The food was great and the service was brilliant, despite our children running amuck in the garden! The food was a little pricey, but worth it. Would definitely recommend it if you need a nice break after the hell that is Peppa Pig World.

Simply the best tikka meal I've had. My partner and I were very pleased. It was delicious, authentic and perfectly cooked.

This is a brilliant little spot just off the M27 junction A31. First we had some lovely rosé the pino grigio blush. My parents have raved about the Indian menu from an early trip so expectations where high and luckily they surpassed all of them. We actually came a little early for the indian menu and they very kindly accommodating our request. We had the poppadoms for a starter, I had the Paneer Kadai, my mum had the Lamb shank and my dad had the Chicken Shaslik Masala all three of us cleaned our plates. And not forgetting the wonderful staff who were attentive and really nice with our big dog. The chef even came out to speak with us and asked how our food has.

I would certainly like to return. We went the day of the England Semi final game. Very quiet but quickly picked up. Starter: Butterfly king Prawn I felt was very over priced for x2 prawns at £11.95 however they were very nice and presentation was spot on The Main dish!! Was remarkable. Flavours, presentation again was very good. Breads and rice were great. Would have the same main meal if I returned. Service.. Good well mannered staff. Tried there best to interact with my child which is always a plus point

Stopped here to break journey and have a snack, drinks and service very good and the food (club sandwich with salad and chips was excellent to say the least.) Will definitely be back to eat in the evening and give the menu a real test, very friendly service from all, many thanks.

It's gone very much downhill since 2023. Back then I had a great burger, however it has been overtaken by new management and has a pub and indian menu. The food was edible and filling (fish and chips and burger) but was not great quality and thin patties. The atmosphere was dead, no music. A shame as I really liked here before.

Stopped off as we were passing and have eaten here many times before. Sadly it was Sunday roast only. The team are relatively new and have a really good reputation but Sunday Roast is not to be recommend. Chewy beef, odd combination of veg and a gravy that was very salty. Tried a beer but was very watery. Unfortunate, I’d return for the normal menu but not a roast

We were staying close by and when faced with a menu not to our expectation at the place we were staying, we ventured out and found this gem! Parish and his Team were extremely welcoming, hospitable and the food was fantastic. We opted for the Indian Menu instead of the Pub Classics. Portions were plenty. Food was fresh and super delicious. The Service was amazing! Great job Team. We will stop by again when we are over in that part of the country.

Food and Customer service particularly good. Very attentive and accommodating. 2 of us had monk fish and 2 had fish and chips. All meals were delicious, good portion sizes. Would most definately done here again when next passing. Value for money too!

The food is always great here, always impressed! Shame that on the first really nice day (and we came so we could eat in the garden) that they said they would not allow food in the garden. That said, the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and we will be back!

So the food itself was nice tasting but cold veg and potatoes, and laughable size for £20.95🤣Beef was also very fatty and chewy, but chicken and gammon were good, also no yorkshire is crazy to me still. Also, were only offered more gravy after 15 mins from this photo being taken, so must was eaten fairly dry as didn’t see a member of staff before that time.

Stopped off for lunch and had a lively pint of London Pride and a wonderful Goan fish curry. Great food and friendly staff.

FANTASTIC RETURN VISIT we have been hete many times but the new owners have transformed the place and cleverly introduced authentic,freshly prepared Indiam food along side traditional English pub food in this charming thatched pub. The owner and chef takes time to talk to his clients as well.superb food on both menus. We had a fabulous family meal with reasonable prices. We will return soon.

Been wanting to sample the Indian food here for a while, having read the chef coming from Darjeeling, a place where my grandfather went to school. All members of staff were extremely polite and attentive. We ordered from the Indian menu and food was as I hoped - it was delicious. The chef also came out to speak to me. Lovely people and food. I’ve not ranked the atmosphere only because it was midday on Monday, so I’m not expecting it to be full of people/activity

Visited today for an impromptu lunch whilst passing. Only meat options available (roasts) so promptly left to find somewhere else. Menu was written on a scrappy piece of paper. Not surprised the place was almost empty.

Beautiful thatched roof pub/restaurant, essentially serving Indian dishes. We were a party of 56 people, on a daytrip to the New Forest. We had booked one of the 2 restaurant room and the whole experience has been very positive. Everyone enjoyed their meal and an exceptionally efficient and courteous staff. The owner, who seems to be also the chef is extremely helpful and pleasant. I am more than happy to recommend the place.

Had a great lunch with a friend at this pub. Service 10/10 , with a smile and care. Even the chef came out to introduce himself and check we were happy with our food. I have never tasted Indian food this good...i had a Cod curry. My friend was also very happy. We will visit again and look forward to trying your roast dinners on a Sunday. Thank you

Had a group of friends meet here for a meal and chat on a Tuesday evening, food was all very nice and no complaints there however the service was very poor, we asked for water for the table about 5 times and it was finally brought when we had nearly finished our meals, the menu labels a drink as elderflower presse when it's actually tonic we saw other tables have the same problem with this and staff didn't have a clue what the problem was when we mentioned that and one of us didn't like tonic other queries about drinks was left with confusion. Syaff very smiley but noone seemed to have much of an idea what to do.Unfortunately I won't return even though the food was very nice

Massive surprise this one, best curry I have had which I was not expecting at all for a forest pub. They are surprisingly quiet, I think there was only one other couple in the whole restaurant which considering the food was that good surprises me.

Really delicious impromptu Indian meal, it was great. Excellent staff and service too. Try the bhaji! Also a traditional pub with traditional pub food, which is probably just as tasty as the Indian food.

Love going to the Sir John Barleycorn since the new owners have taken over. Food is fabulous, clean and friendly. I can't fault them at all.

First visit to this pub since it has been under new ownership but it won't be the last. Excellent food, good Indian range and traditional pub food available. Good beer. Easy parking. Good location Very dog friendly

Celebrated a family Birthday, 12 people, enjoyed a mix of the standard menu and the Indian menu. Indian dishes were absolutely superb. The standard menu dishes were also well received, although I'd personally stick with the Indian dishes next time we visit. It.was very busy when we went as there was another large gathering, so the mains took a while to come out, but the waiters kept us informed. After the meal the chef came out to apologise for the delay and asked what we thought of our meals, very friendly and attentive service by all staff throughout the evening. Highly recommended and will definitely be returning soon!

Got to this pub at 9.20pm after a long journey. Wanted a bite to eat but at this time we thought crisps were going to be our only option…. The chef reopened the kitchen and we had some delicious Indian delights! Friendly staff too, welcomed the dogs … I will definitely be returning

Had a meal with a number of others tonight, 16th Jan, the service was great and food absolutely delicious. The party of people we were with enjoyed pub classics as well as authentic Indian cuisine. All thoroughly enjoyable. Well worth a visit to a truly hidden gem. We will be visiting again soon.

My 1st visit since the pub refurbishment. I had lunch. Menu was split between an indian food menu and a classic pub menu. Service was excellent, although the pub was not busy. If you like Indian food then I would especially recommend. I felt that the classic pub may not be extensive enough for many people especially if you do not like Indian cuisine.

What a find! we were looking for somewhere to lunch on our way to Bournemouth and were lucky enough to find Sir John Barleycorn. We have visited the pub a couple of times now. The food was delicious. We tried the curries, rather than the normal pub fare, (which still looked amazing), and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and provided good service, we met the chef, a very pleasant man. Definitely will be returning on our future trips and would recommend.

Beautiful, authentic Indian cusine alongside a tradition British menu. We had butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and sides, it was superb. Warm, friendly welcome from the owners, even the chef popped out to ensure we were enjoying the food. Fabulous restaurant, we would highly recommend.

We visited on Boxing Day for Christmas lunch and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely welcome, very attentive and the food was very well presented and was absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend! It’s off the main road so I don’t think people know about but well worth a visit.

Went for Christmas Dinner Loads of Turkey all nicely cooked. Not the largest portions but more than enought as we had 3 courses it was ample I have been here before the normal menu is very good Christmas Dinner was very good value

An absolutely superb curry at this well known old pub in the New Forest. The quality of the curry is among the best I have had anywhere. The portion sizes are very generous and the flavours are wonderful. We had Butter Chicken, Chicken Shashlik Masala, Peshwari Naan, Garlic Naan, Pilauo Rice and Sag Aloo. The restaurant feels very spacious and not at all crowded. Ample parking outside and very accessible from the A31 and M27. Would highly recommend this pub for a meal. They also serve pub classics alongside the Indian menu. The hosts were charming. We sat at table 17.

This has changed since we were last there, it's now more of a restaurant. It used to be a proper old pub, so at first we were a bit disappointed but we sat down and ordered some drinks and looked at the menu which is mostly Indian curries although pub grub is also on there. Even though it was lunchtime we all had a curry and they were REALLY GOOD curries. We will go back again even tho it's about 10 miles away.

Whilst this is now a curry house, a traditional pub menu is also available. The quality of service and food is superb. It's impossible to walk out if here without feeling that you've been well looked after.
