Lovely hotel, we stayed here for a Paultons park break. The hotel was rustic though well maintained. It was very warm throughout the hotel including the rooms, we had to open a window to cool down in the evening. We ate in the restaurant in the evening. The menu options were decent and the quality of the food was good, though a bit expensive for what we had. The service was excellent both I. The evening and at breakfast.

Lovely location. The hotel is not in the best condition. Our room was OK, but did have a few problems such as waste fitting in sink was very difficult to use. There was no fridge, which I always consider standard. In the restaurant at breakfast there was no butter knife, sugar was only on some tables, and my wifes order of poached eggs was forgotten.

I can't thank Bartley Lodge enough. I booked my 40th Birthday afternoon tea at the hotel in January for today! I absolutely love everything about the hotel, the perfectly manicured grounds to the clean, authentic and fresh looking guest areas in the hotel. Everything has been seamless from start to finish. Every member of the whole team have been so lovely to me and I'm so grateful. Today was an important day for me in more ways than one and I have felt so special. If you are thinking about holding a function here please dont hesitate and book quickly!! This hotel has changed management and is becoming a hidden gem! I'm so lucky to have had my party now as the operations manager has his head screwed tightly on, being brought in from Mayfair, The Four Seasons where he was for 10 years. He is so professional, kind, he listens, very smiley and calm(which I need) and nothing was too much. Change is good and in Bartley Lodges interest has been an amazing decision. I cannot fault the experience my guests and I had today. We had dedicated staff in our room at all times, pouring drinks and helping us with anything we needed, nothing was too much. Honestly this is the best service I have ever had and I went to the Chewton Glenn in April for afternoon tea and the staff and food was not as good as Bartley Lodge. After reading some bad reviews this morning of the hotel I was really sceptical but honestly I'm blown away. All of my guests loved the afternoon tea, the attention to detail on all of the treats AND (this is a BIG one) they catered for EVERY diet!!! My guests were shocked by the extensive menu for all diets. My mum struggles to eat anything gluten free without it resembling cardboard but here the food was delicious. My friend who is Coliac said she hasn't had a scone so tasty before! Its so hard to cater for allergies along with 40 guests. Everything came on time and very fresh. I even met the chefs who came in when we were setting up and they were so lovely and very professional. I'm going on now but it needs to be said how overwhelmed I am. I'm so unbelievably grateful for today and how amazing it was. I have really bad anxiety and it didn't even come on once! It was so stress-free, from liaising with the events team (Sophie) to the managers and staff directly at the hotel. Thank you thank you thank you. Bring on my 50th!!! Or I may try and renew my wedding vows (my husband has said no!) just to be able to celebrate in such a way again!! Il definitely be coming again for afternoon tea and can't wait to see what more the hotel has up its sleeve! 10 10 10!!!!

We visit and stayed for two nights with friends and dogs for a long weekend, we arrived on Sunday around 1300 there was no staff around , I mean no staff I walked through the hotel and came across a young member of staff, I explained I was staying tge first reaction was you can not checking as we were very busy yesterday, I said no worries it was a nice day our friends had not yet arrived so I said we would sit in the garden and have a drink, we'll that when It turned into a carry on film, as I went to the bar again no staff, ten minutes later the same young lady appeared to serve me it took twenty minutes for two drinks, I asked if we could get some snacks no food available in the bar,? When you put you hand on thr bar you stuck to it , we were there for two nights the bar bin was still full on the bar, which was the same as we arrived, we checked in the room really need a lot of TLC , it was clean but really tired one pont the air-conditioning didn't work we ask for a fan it took four asks and it arrived on our last night, we had dinner in the evening with our friends, the menu was very limited which it not a problem when the quality is excellent but it wasn't, and the service was not the best again a young lady with limited skills, we had breakfast the next morning as we had dogs we were required to sit apart from the other guests which was very disappointing for a Dog friendly venue it also resulted in even less service then the night before and again the quality of the food was very so, so the came check out frislty it was the first time we met a member of staff that was professional Susan was her name great member of staff, the bill was wrong this was due the be charged for a three course dinner and not a two course which is what we had , still waiting for the credit as the staff are not permitted to credit it needs to be signed off by a manager? Now its location and the grounds are excellent, this place could be a great place to stay the management really need to invest in the staff and the fabric

Mixed feelings. We chose this hotel as a break deal with Paultons Park as it was the closest. The main annoyance is the road to the hotel through the forest. It is in a horrible state, full of potholes and dangerous bumps. The parking area of the hotel not any better. The hotel itself is nice and the rooms and beds are really comfy. But it is obviously understaffed. This results in service being slow and not adequate. The breakfast was very limited but the quality is fine within those limits. Dinner a la carte is the star of the place. Excellent plates and great desserts

Very good value for 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal, we paid around £250.00 plus £20.00 upgrade per night. Lovely restaurant, great staff and good food - good idea if you are vegetarian to inform the staff who were very helpful and insured I had a lovely plate of all the available vegetables on my second night. Not enough choice for me if we been staying a 3rd night but my husband very much enjoyed new forest venison .

Wish i could say it got better in the morning tried to have a shower their was no hot water called the reception they said try again later it mite be hot so after having a cold wash we went down for breakfast after 45 minutes they still didnt take are order and 3 time in that time i asked if we can have some white tost for my son twice they gave us brown tost an houre later in total they still didnt take are order so we walked out i bought breakfast at a petrol station on the way to the park when we got back the wedding party had left so they seemed more staffed but again had to put up with the door slamming all nite you think they would install a door that closes softly and not have the staff smoking area under a room or train their staff to be aware of shouting under an open window were guests are sleeping iv had better service at a sub 3 star hotels the food wasnt worth the money was bland and cold with fine dinning portions but far from fine you get better value and service in a local restaurant the only thing that was good is the pool and staff are friendly towards kids apart from the moody receptionist

I recently went for afternoon tea to celebrate my sisters 65th birthday. Unfortunately the whole experience was disappointing. We sat outside because it was a lovely hot day but had to share one umbrella between two tables. Luckily the tree kept that half in shade for an hour. When we were seated, only some of us were asked what we would like to drink & we had to chase a refill even though it states that is included in the price! Everything came out all at the same time, so the fresh cream sweets were melting in the heat & the scones were going rock hard by the time we got to eating them. Nothing exceptional about the food at all. Poor service as we weren't ever asked if everything was ok & the staff didn't try to interact with us in conversation either. Then to add to the lack of standard, there was no hand towels in the toilets, so we told reception of this but in our 2 hours there, none were replaced. Would not recommend I'm afraid.

Some of our family were staying here so we joined them for dinner. Whilst the decor & hotel setting was lovely - very elegant & cosy - nothing else was great. We were rushed into ordering by a surly waiter. Some of us didn't like anything on the menu, but the waiter couldn't have cared less. Multiple times we asked for things, e.g. drinks, butter, water - none ever arrived. The service was generally brusque & inattentive. Never once were we welcomed or shown any warmth. We were left with an accumulation of clutter all over our table, which never got cleared. Not very good in general. The food was inconsistent - fried stuff with chips was good, but nothing else was. There were 3 veggie choices (inc starters & mains), all of which were rice-based. The chicken wings were a joke - just a couple of tiny dollops of bland meat on a massive plate. The lamb dish was awful - over cooked meat, soggy veg, small portions. Not very good. We definitely won't be returning, & couldn't recommend eating here.

We visited for Sunday lunch with family and friends. We had visited on a number occasions in the past and always found the lunch to be of a good standard, however on our latest visit, it was obvious that investment had been made in the restaurant to improve the environment. The menu had also significantly improved. We have tried to visit since but on every occasion we have been told they were fully booked. This was frustrating as we called well in advance and had alternative dates. We will keep trying, but recommend others to book ahead. The environment is very light and relaxing and the hotel is set in private grounds away from the road. It is within easy reach of the A31 and M27 yet a world away. The improvements have improved an already pleasant dining experience.

We have been using Bartley Lodge for years. It is a old lovely hotel at a reasonable price for midweek breaks. The rooms are not modern but always very clean and comfortable. You always have the opportunity to upgrade if you desire. There is lovely outdoor seating in the garden on those warm days and a good indoor pool to cool down after. The breakfast in the conservatory is a great way to start the morning and the lovely restaurant finishes the evening off. The selection is not great but you should find something that will suit you. On this occasion we had beer battered fish and chips which was fantastic and Roast Duck that was cooked to perfection. Without doubt we will be returning again this year.

The room was clean and tidy, perfect for our family, eldest loved the bunk bed and the addition by the hotel of a bed guard meant that we could try the youngest in the bottom bunk too! We ate in the bar the night before which was reasonable and kept the kids quiet, and used the pool in the evening and morning which is a great addition. There wasn't a function on in the hotel that night so I guess others may have a different experience but it does say everywhere to check if there is anything on. Would recommend.

On a beautiful sunny day, the approach to this hotel was very attractive. My friend and I arrived over 30 minutes early but were greeted in Reception and escorted into the Orangery. The waiter was quite attentive and after determining our choice of tea returned within two minutes with both the tea and the Afternoon Tea. On inspection, the green leaf garnish was limp and unappetising - never a good omen! The four white and four brown finger sandwiches were very dry, with the white bread beginning to curl. The scones were warm to the touch, though a little soggy underneath but quite palatable. The fresh strawberry garnish was delicious. The cream was plentiful but the jam proved to be bland and tasted of an inferior mixed fruit jam rather than the strawberry advertised on the Hotel's website. The three pieces of cake each were quite non-descript with the lemon one being the best of the bunch. I believe there was a chocolate one and a very insipid Bakewell Tart. Charging £14.95 per head for this was excessive I feel. The view from the Orangery was delightful but it is obvious that the interior of the Hotel was rather shabby with a strong, damp smell in the corridor approaching the Rest Rooms and the Leisure Area. The doors were quite tatty and could really do with a good wipe down. This was our second visit to the Hotel and I am afraid it will be our last. With so much competition for the Afternoon Tea market this Hotel was sadly lacking and even though this trip was a Red Letter Days treat for my friend' birthday it was very disappointing.

We have stayed at this small chain of hotels a number of time before and they have always been lovely with the highlight always being the restaurant. Not so here. The staff were very nice. Although didn't really know what to do with our food complaints. The rooms really need decorating, but the food was just horrendous. This is one of the key reason we live this chain. We ordered the beetroot rice balls which were brought up with an apology that there was no beetroot. We did get a large black hair on it though so this went back. The lasagne was a big pile of mince with no other ingredients including pasta. But the covered in cheese. They claim to have an AA rosette or two. I assume awarded some time ago. I did complain and all money for food was refunded. But it was still expensive for what it was. They other hotels in this chain are well worth a visit. I don't think I'll be back at this one though.

We recently attended a Christmas party/meal at Bartley Lodge and was very disappointed. The room layout meant it was very difficult for the waiting staff to get past the diners and one member of staff kept stomping past, almost running as he put the food on the tables. The main course was very mediocre, with one parsnip, two carrots and four almost raw Brussel sprouts accompanying turkey roll and stuffing. The cheesecake dessert was topped with a bitter tasting jelly which several other diners including myself could not eat. Overall a very disappointing and poor value for money Christmas meal.

This is our third stay here and apart from the new wing not much has changed. We were given room 6 initially, and what a shock that was. The room is at best a single but they have rammed a double bed in it and you can hardly walk around it, not sure why the management think that this is an acceptable room - it is not! Stop trying to sell it as a double. The second room no8 was bigger but with a revolting half missing four poster bed- yuk! The decor is poor and the furnishings dated, plus the toilet had splaterring inside the rim, really not good. The food was excellent as usual and the service spot on, would have given a 2 star rating had this not been the case. This hotel needs to sharpen up in certain areas but the chef is top notch!

We have just come back from having an afternoon tea which was kindly bought for us as a present. Sadly what should have been an enjoyable experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived on time and were shown into a lounge area with our table reserved and set up for our tea. A waiter brought us a pot of tea and a tea strainer. On looking we discovered that the tea strainer was dirty so we decided to ask for a new one, we thought he would be back soon as no milk had been brought. After nearly 20 minutes of waiting I went to find the waiter. Finally we were brought milk and a new clean tea strainer. We were then told that the scones would be out of the oven soon. 5 minutes later the scones were brought. We asked the waiter if the sandwiches were coming but were told that this wasn't part of the deal. We asked for this to be checked, the waiter told us to check with reception but by now our tea had actually arrived so we asked if he could check for us. Eventually he did so. It transpired that we should have had sandwiches as well so these were hastily arranged.By now we had started the scones. They were a good size and tasted fine at first until I bit into something very hard, this was a deeply unpleasant experience. On inspection it was a solid lump that looked like a stone of some kind, either way something that should not have been in a scone.Eventually the sandwiches came, we had ham and tomato (tasty) and salmon (also good) and finally egg ( we think it was egg but it was spread so thinly that there was no taste). The cakes were good and we were allowed to take the remnants home. The staff were quite pleasant but unbothered by my 'stone in the scone' experience and were not particularly quick or full of initiative. I would have expected a bit more of a reaction to the scone issue than 'I'll tell the chef', no offer was made to come again. We were hoping for a leisurely tea in beautiful surroundings, in the end we were there only an hour and happy to go home. It was our first visit to the Bartley lodge and with so many high quality places nearby it is unlikely that we would return and wouldn't recommend it. With over 60 reviews under my belt I think this is my first properly negative one, which saddens me as I look for the positives wherever possible.A big disappointment.

We booked the Bartley Lodge for our wedding night in June 2013. The price was a little under £200 but that was fine as it was our wedding night. I checked before hand if it was okay to arrive at around 3am and was told that would be okay.I specifically booked and asked for a room down the end of a corridor away from noise and made is crystal clear that it was our wedding night. This was confirmed verbally and I ws told that we would have a room tucked away.We turned up at 3am and the doors were locked. After 15 minutes of ringing the door bell a very sleepy manager dressed in comfy house clothes came to let use in. We dont mind people sleeping however you do expect that they would have one member of staff awake during the night ecspecially on weekends fully clothed in a shirt and tie as a night porter! So our room turned out to be at the top of the stairs on the landing near a swinging door. This door not only banged every time someone went through it but the location of the room meant that we had people and children running past our room from 7am onwards. As we were at the top of the stairs guests were waiting for others to come out of their rooms and congrigated outside our door chatting. This was not acceptable on our wedding night! Then I decided I could not sleep so I would have a shower to freshen up. I was greeted by a bathroom which had mould around the bath on the silicon and tiles and the floor not to have been swept. How can you get clean in a dirty bathroom?! So then off to breakast....not only was the toast cold (which was brought out 'fresh') but my breakfast arrived a good ten minutes before my husbands and so I sent it back as we wanted to eat together on our first morning of marriage. Then it came to check out, I obviously did not pay the full amount. When greeted by the 'night porter' who had let us in (now in shirt and tie) he gave me the bill, which I gave back to him and explained why I would not pay the full amount. he then quickly without any quabble reduced it down to £140, I then gave it back to him and paid around the £100 mark which still was over priced.Never shall we stay at the Bartley Lodge again unless we are invited to a wedding and that is the only accomodation available within a 10 mile radius. Disapointed and it ruined what was meant to be a perfect wedding night!

I'm not a member but I booked in with Royal Lymington Yacht Club to do RYA Level 3 Dinghy sailing course after doing levels 1 & 2 on the river Thames. The club is very nice with great views and Richard, the instructor leading the course was great and gave the choice of additional things to learn.. I had a great time out on the water and sailing on the solent felt like a real achievment. Proud to be able to say I trained at Royal Lymington Yacht Club and am looking forward to doing RYA First Aid Course in December .

I had a lovely experience at the Inn on Furlong. Great Food, great service. I was served by a polite, charming young lady called Mika who made my experience so much better. Every time I come in and she’s there, I receive the fastest, good quality service.
