I don't know what happened with management but this place was so greedy for money, my wife and I had to take my father out the back door. He's passed away now but we'll never be coming back. Good luck. Avoid this pub, there are so many around which are much better

It's taken me a few days how to leave a negative review as I've never had a bad meal here and staff are normally very good. So it was a Sunday afternoon and we booked s table for 4.00pm. We were both looking forward to a nice Sunday roast but it was the complete opposite. When you're spending close to £25.00 for a Roast beef dinner with s side of Cauliflower Cheese ( when ordering i was told they could only do Cauliflower/ Broccoli cheese which i was happy with ) you're expecting a very good quality meal. The wife ordered the lamb by the way. The meal came out and I was speechless. The 1 slice of beef was a large wafer thin slice like out of a frozen tray, the roast potatoes were tough to cut and tasted like they had been sat there for hours, the Yorkshire pudding was very good, sausage meat stuffing was very gristly as was the chipolata and the seasonal vegetables of cabbage, carrots and peas were OK. The Cauliflower/ Broccoli cheese was sent back as they were obviously frozen as there was no cheese but a large amount of water in the bowl instead. I ended up eating just the 1 potato, the veg and Yorkshire pudding, the chipolata was chucked onto a side plate with the sausage meat stuffing, just awful. It wasn't that busy so I was surprised that we weren't asked how was the food. It didn't all go to waste as the wife finished most of it. We were happy to pay buy the quality of the products they use really is poor and will make me think again using one of this group of pubs again. My advice, do not waste your money on a roast dinner, certainly not value for money but spend it in one of the large carvery pubs sprinkled all around us. Finally, the staff were OK, the young lady who took our order was polite other than that the gentleman who seemed to be Head of House for the afternoon was so ignorant, not even a hello on arrival or a goodbye. Not my loss, maybe not theirs either but you have a lot of work to do because you will end up like a lot of the local pubs, CLOSED. Make changes whilst you can, this is a beautiful location but do not make that mistake by taking advantage of your customers and not giving them what they pay for, quality food and service, we are paying a high price to eat and drink in your establishment.

This is not the lovely country pub that I remember, having visited so many times throughout at least 30 years. The atmosphere has completely changed, it’s more like a managed retail restaurant. Gone are the cosy corners, comfy armchairs and traditional log fire to be replaced by more tables. Service was not the best but on the plus side the food was good.

We Sat outside and all the tables and chairs were very wobbly. Roasts were £20 each. My partner had pork that was ok. I had roast lamb (apparently!) it did not look or taste like lamb, I even asked if perhaps I had also been given pork! It was so over processed I was unable to differentiate it from other meat. The gravy was watery. Weirdly there was a sausage and an additional slice of random sausage meat on my plate and some frozen vegetables. Potatoes were pretty decent, but overall an expensive disappointment.

Overpriced, bad food and poor service. We've stopped here for dinner after a day out for my mother's birthday. Service was poor and unattentive. The tomato soup was so thick you could shape it on the plate and took a count of few seconds to slid out of the spoon. The £18 burger was dry and tasteless, I left more than half on the plate. The child and adult roast were a disaster. The kids one was mostly end trimmings, full of nerves and fat, it was a challenge to try and cut out the meat for them to eat, and some of it I couldn't be sure it was definitely beef. The roast had no potatoes either. The greek salad had very little of greek apart from some feta and few olives on top - It was a plain green salad, with a couple of cherry tomatoes and few cucumber slices. Was ready to explain what we felt had gone wrong with our food, but at no moment during the meal or when paying, has anyone bothered to ask us how the dinner was. It was very disappointing, I do not recommend this place.

Beaulieu has a shortage of pubs which is a shame as the village is lovely, so your next best bet is the Royal Oak. You’ll get the vibe the second you drive into the car park. It’s fine, nothing special and nothing bad. The bar area certainly isn’t cosy or traditional in any sense and is purely geared up for food, the large garden was nice enough but you feel like you are missing all the amazing views you can see in the car park. The food was fine, portions are huge so bear that in mind and the staff are very friendly and attentive. My only one complaint but this is happening across the UK so not isolated to this pub, are the prices were way too high for the quality of food. £8.99 for a cheese and pickle sandwich is a bit much!

Sad to say a disappointing visit. We started off with one wine by the glass. It tasted as if the bottle had been open too long and the wine suffered accordingly. One main was Sea Bass, reported as excellent except the new boiled potatoes were semi-sautéed. The pasta was poor having been coated with an unpleasant tomato sauce. The service overall was slow and the dessert was cancelled after a ridiculously long wait from a kitchen without any other orders. Sorry, but I will not be going back.

I'm not sure how this pub has 4.2 stars. 4 dinners, burger, steak pie, chicken parmigiana and 'loaded' mac and cheese. The only one that was ok was the burger but £18! Not impressed by my roast dinner. It tasted like it was prepared elsewhere and just reheated in the kitchen. The staff seemed unaware of the customers. If there are six people in a group, it should be easy to spot when you've only delivered five meals, not leaving the customers to wonder if it's going to arrive (it did, but only when requested). My problem is that we normally eat lovely, freshly prepared home cooking and it's a shock to pay high prices for something I'd be embarrassed to serve to friends.

Thank you for a lovely evening and perfectly cooked meals. We were greeted by a lovely waitress / manager (Faith, I believe), who showed us to our table. We were struggling a bit trying to discuss the menu because we were next to a very large and buzzing birthday celebration table (no problem normally, but we were quite tired), so our waitress without hesitation suggested that we could sit in the "snug" area, which was quiet, which turned out to be perfect for the evening we had been looking forward to! The menu is fairly typical pub food, but with a few specials on the board. My partner had a Salmon Salad, and I had the Royal Oak Burger, which I would recommend. Service was spot on, despite us being a little hidden from view, there was always someone available whenever needed. Thanks once again for going the extra mile!

I have passed this pub many times and have long wanted to visit. Yesterday was an ideal opportunity so I booked online. That worked very well. We arrived earlier than I planned but the very capable and friendly staff sorted us out with a table. All good so far. We ordered a couple of drinks and the beer that I chose was very good. My wife ordered a smoked salmon and prawn salad which was plentiful and, she said, very good. Unfortunately, I ordered the steak and red wine pie which, again, was plentiful and the vegetables and chips were very good. However, the pie was an absolute disaster. I ate it because I was very hungry but the steak was dry and massively overcooked. The pie crust was probably bullet-proof and there was no sign that red wine, or any other moisture, was involved in the pie filling. This dreadful excuse for a pie gave every impression that it had been kept warm for an incredibly long time (either that, or it had been subjected to extensive time in a microwave oven). The pub and it's bar staff deserve better kitchen output than this. Quite frankly, whoever let this leave the kitchen should be taken outside and shot (not seriously).

We haven't been here for a few years now, probably for three or four years. We went over on a Friday evening, the food was lovely, the beer was really good and the service was lovely. My wife asked for the gamon and asked if they could not put any peas on, to which the reply was did she want anything else instead of them, this ended up being a really nice salad, its a simple thing, they didn't have to do it, but was a lovely gesture and my wife loved her gamon, eggs, chips and salad.

Lovely food with a good menu. Recommended We dropped in here on the off chance having seen the pub from the road through Beaulieu numerous times and we’re not disappointed. We had a burger and a ploughman’s… both were of a great standard and we enjoyed our meals. We sat in the garden as it was a very hot day which was also nice. We’ll try inside next time which looks like it gets busy so booking is probably advisable.

I would have gave 5*, but we went there Saturday. We had burgers. Very good food. But what let it down was that we went there today. For Sunday roast. Order a starter olives. And 2 roast beef. They all came out the same time. So I had to ask if I could take home the olives. The roast came out as soon as we ordered. A bottle of water was £4.50 which we was not told.only found out when we got the bill. We felt we were rushed. As soon as we finished our main. The pudding menu was there. No chance to relax. Saturday I give them 10/10 . Today I give them 4/10 .
