This was my first visit here and I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the spacious car park. The building is very interesting and the bar steward was able to tell us all about it’s history. The bar is in the entrance hall with little seating available. The Library and Billiard Room are nearby with ample comfy seating, but for those who like to drink at the bar, it is not ideal. The building itself is very interesting. It is from a past era with extensive wood panelling and some very spectacular high ceilings decorated with intricate plaster work. The men’s toilettes were pristine and very well appointed. Sadly, it was very cold in both the bar area and in the dining room. The manager/server sat at a table in the dining room working on his lap top and taking a series of phone calls. Even when we were seated in the dining room he continued his activities at times rather loudly. We had to attract his attention to take our orders. The menu offers a wide range of choices. Our starters were good and enjoyable. My falafel salad was very tasty and looked very attractive on the plate. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food arrived promptly and hot. Our main courses were received with mixed reviews. The fish pie was shallow and with little fish. The chicken dish was rather bland and greasy. The two burger eaters left empty plates and enjoyed the burgers and the fries. We did not stay for desert but did do justice to two bottles of a very tasty Chateau Neuf du Pape. Was the evening value for money? The atmosphere was stark, it being cold and devoid of background music. The service could have been better, but it was a Wednesday night with few customers and only two front of house staff on duty. Some main courses were underwhelming and so overall I did not feel that the evening was good value for money. The location has so much potential to become a really great place to eat but perhaps I’ll try again in a year or so.

Food is unfortunately not great at all. Fish pie was a very poor excuse for a fish pie, served in a small shallow dish, with a load of halved new potatoes and cheese on top, with very small amounts of fish. It tasted bland. On the side of this dish a tiny bit of salad, nothing else. My girlfriend has felt nauseous since eating it. The other dish ordered was small and didn't wow either. Over £30 later, unfortunately we were disappointed and felt slightly robbed for the price and what we received. Sorry to say this guys. The staff were lovely though, as is the building. X

A friend and I met for lunch here. We both chose Nourish Bowls, which were nice apart from the unripe avocados which were inedible. Our server, in a scruffy sweatshirt, did not endear herself to us by calling us ‘luvvie’ and ‘my lovelies’ which was inappropriate. It’s a lovely venue with a lovely view which could do better.

Terrible food. The food was poorly presented, bland and expensive for what it was. My wife had some sort of chicken dish in a greasy red sauce whilst my slow cooked shin of beef had little beef and no flavour. The building itself has a feeling of past grandeur but is very run down which is a shame

Building and Rooms lovely. Room was excellent in terms of size, appointment, cleanliness and comfort of bed (unfortunately it was a bit stuffy; noisy when kitchen fans were on; and, strangely, no-where to hang towels). Unfortunately, the Downstairs (bar and Restaurant) is tired and has a 'grubby pub' feel; e.g. crockery not clean, 'restaurant' waiting staff were super friendly but not knowledgeable nor efficient. Barman actually quite brusque and pulled cork from £30 bottle of wine out of sight of table and plonked on the table like a bottle of ketchup.

Really disappointed! For the last few years the food has been amazing and knowing this we were returned for a meal this holiday. Well what a disappointment I ordered the steak with the “triple cooked chips” which were clearly frozen chips. The tomato served on the side was cold all in all for £30 it was a complete rip off. I don’t know if they have changed hands? But we won’t return!

The choice of ales is good and the Isle of Wight can be seen from the garden. However, I eat the worst meal I've had for a long time. I ordered the hake for £22, I was served a tiny portion of overcooked fish on a bed of rice and tomato ketchup, all of it crusty because it had been kept warm for too long. I didn't complain at the time because I didn't want to upset the friends who had invited us there.

Our second time visiting we thought the service was poor the first time but the food made up for this, I wish I could say the same about our recent visit. The service was abysmal from start to finish, we arrived and were left standing for 5 minutes before being walked to the edge of the restaurant and being told your table is over there. After around 15 minutes we were offered drinks and given the menus, nothing was said about the menu, after selecting our food we were told they had run out of everything we ordered. Once we chose again the food arrived relatively quickly but was hardly warm and we were still waiting for our drinks, we had to ask twice for them to chase the drinks and they finally arrived after we had finished our food! We had to wait for 30 minutes after finishing our food to be offered a dessert menu to look at. This took another 20 minutes to arrive and a further 15 minutes to be asked if we wanted dessert by this time we had had enough as had our 2 year old who was now very restless. We ordered the bill which again took forever to arrive. There were 3 other table's in the section of restaurant we were who all had reason to complain about the poor service. It was very reminiscent of an episode of fawlty towers!

Stayed for just one night and had a lovely time. The building is stunning with many of the original features. It was like stepping back in time. Just a few steps to the sea and path to walk along the coast in either direction. We took the walk to Lymington, passing the nature reserve and seeing lots of various birds. Take your binoculars. The walk is approx 2.5 hours. We ate dinner at the nearby Lighthouse restaurant which was excellent. Breakfast at the Beach House was superb. Four of us met for pre Christmas lunch. A warm welcome and we were - at first - pleased to have a table in the window. But it was so cold due to drafts from the old Windows, we had to move. The menu looked good and all four of us chose something different. Three diners were very pleased with their main course, which was served really quickly, but one diner ordered the Turkey dinner. But it should have been Jerky dinner! Plenty of Turkey, but it was rock hard and very clearly just re heated. It did not even have any gravy to soften it up. Dessert was disappointing. Cheesecake that tasted like it had come out of a spray can, tasting nothing like any cheesecake I have ever eaten before. Sadly as a friend was paying, we did not feel as though we could complain at the time. I certainly would have done if I could have slid away! So, mixed feelings, but I would certainly advise going for something on the menu that clearly has to be cooked to order - and avoid the desserts.

We have always been very fond of this venue. The views are amazing and the menu was always good and reasonably priced. So we thought we'd have a family Sunday lunch. Oh dear. How disappointing. We arrived on time having booked and stood for sometime waiting to be seated whilst members of staff strolled past ignoring us. Finally seated in a lovely window seat we ordered drinks from a very efficient young lady. No problem. We ordered lunch which arrived fairly promptly. However the young man who brought it to the table didn't know what the dishes were. He announced 2 steak pies which were clearly our salmon pies as they were covered in a white sauce. He didn't ask who had ordered them but just dumped them on the nearest part of the table. Then he brought 2 fish and chips one of which was clearly smaller than the other. I told him the small one was mine to which he just shrugged and abandoned them on the table. The extra vegetables ordered had to be asked for again as they didn't turn up. The food was , as always, very good. However the same performance with the desserts. The young waiter didn't have a clue what anything was and didn't ask who had ordered what. Finally another waiter came to his rescue and sorted out the desserts. Sorry Beach House but this was not the service we expected. I will also mention the hike in prices, less choice especially with the small desserts; only a choice of 3 and 75p more each. We miss the £1.99 or 6 for £10 offer.

Other diners were having similar waits and then 1 or 2 meals were arriving with the rest of the table waiting at least 10 minutes. When we queried the delay we were told 'that a large party had booked in before us' . Why not not then book out some of the following slots on Open Table say till 7.30 so that the staff had time to serve the large party before the next diners arrived? As always very welcoming staff, attentive and friendly service. Lovely food, good value and well presented. All within a setting and view that's hard to beat. Would recommend for lunch or drinks with family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Looked around local area for somewhere to eat for a birthday, lots to choose from! Reviews were generally very good, arrived to find table would be ready in 10 minutes and it was. Very welcoming and attentive staff, stately home feel with wood panelled decor, great views and the food was tasty and well presented. All in all surpassed expectations, will be going back when next in the area.

We're not local but always call in when visiting our son in Poole. Easy parking, food all day and a great location. Staff are always pleasant and the ambience is friendly. Good prices for comfort food.

Lo que en un lugar relajante, sentarse en la terraza con una copa de elección para beber mirando las agujas en el sol. El personal era simpático y la comida era estupenda, bien merece una visita.

Very nice place, lovely building, very good service but far too uncomfortably hot in the dining room, let some air in for goodness sake! Eton mess was not how we think an Eton mess should look or taste like.

We found the service very slow and the waitress not very engaging. We also managed to have our coffee bought to us before our desserts which did not seem at all right . Location was good .

I'm not a member but I booked in with Royal Lymington Yacht Club to do RYA Level 3 Dinghy sailing course after doing levels 1 & 2 on the river Thames. The club is very nice with great views and Richard, the instructor leading the course was great and gave the choice of additional things to learn.. I had a great time out on the water and sailing on the solent felt like a real achievment. Proud to be able to say I trained at Royal Lymington Yacht Club and am looking forward to doing RYA First Aid Course in December .

My wife was charged £6 for one round of cheap supermarket bread toasted.Hmm.!! My sausage bap was average at best. We had to endure sitting close to 3 loud/sweary blokes, who were old enough to know better than to swear in front of women. You can rip us off once, you won't get another chance
