Holly Blue in Wealden

Booked family meal for 7 people as it was my sister's and nephew's birthday. I have food intolerances and found their interactive menu really helpful and I was able to filter out what I could not eat. The food and service was excellent.

Never been here before as I don't live in the area, came here to meet friends, 1st impressions was good, friendly staff, not to keen on the carvery so I chose from the menu, food was good and at a good price, atmosphere was ok but it wasn't very busy, the only annoying thing was kids running around and screaming inside the restaurant aera when you are trying to eat and have a conversation. All in all, a good evening out. Would I come back again? Yes, I probably would.

We thought we would try the Holly blue after hearing it was under new management. We wish we hadn’t quite honestly. Staff were very polite but service was appalling. 1 hour 20 mins wait for a simple meal. The carvery was OK but similar to what it always has been. Average at best.

Just a quick note to thank you for lunch today. Family friends, in Sussex from the Midlands, for half term, and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pub is friendly, the play area handy, the kids’ colouring sheets a great idea and the whole place is nice and clean. The food was really great and well presented. It was good to see the venue busy. I know the management is relatively new and I wish them the best of luck.

I was tasked with finding somewhere for my family and I to go for a nice Sunday roast. My brother and his 7 year old were visiting from London, the inlaws were out, my elderly mother was there and I was there with my partner and 3 year old. Having booked on the website initially for 6 people, then phoning them up to add two extras to our booking which seemed fine, we arrived to find quite a loud live singer there. Now, we love a bit of live music and the singer was actually pretty good. But then, we were told that our table was directly next to him and his speakers! Naturally, we weren't pleased with this, so when I challenged it, I was told, "well, it was advertised". Now, I accept that the entertainment may have been advertised, and I accept that we'd have happily had our family Sunday roast listening to his dulcet tones. But I do not accept that a table next to his speakers with him literally performing next to us was appropriate, regardless of how low the volume was. We were next to it and couldn't hear each other. Fortunately, it was a nice afternoon and we ended up layering up and sitting outside where music was actually quite pleasant, if a little chilly. If the owners/management monitor these reviews, please write off the table next to the entertainment. It's ludicrous to think that anyone might want to eat there and it made what should have been a lovely family get together a considerable disappointment. The service on the other hand wasn't bad at all and the food, whilst not gourmet was tasty, if a little average. I'd like to go back, because the pub itself has so much potential and could be really good. But I think my family would probably give me a few choice words if I told them I'd booked our next Sunday lunch there.

Excellent evening here, as usual! As it is the first Tuesday of the month, we brought my classic car along & had our carvery dinner. Dinner was very good quality, and service superb. Food not to high standard beef no taste turkey look dry due to no skin gammon looked overcooked veg not hot needs to be addressed

Had a lovely time today for the Dad's Birthday celebrations. 24 of us went and all had a great time with great food and great atmosphere. The staff on shift Gracie, Cara, Katie and Becky were happy and couldn't fault them at all. Thanks to all staff for a beautiful afternoon. The new management are definitely steering the Holly Blue in the right direction. Definitely won't be strangers.

Wow, what a fantastic place, so glad it was recommended to us by not only a friend, but all the latest reviews on TA. We absolutely loved it. The actual dining rooms, bar, and beautiful gardens are very spacious, and comfortable. We opted for the carvery today, we were lured to the carvery by the MASSIVE Yorkshire puddings sitting on the hot plates as you enter the pub. .... And it was the best Roast Beef I have tasted in a very long time, and a slice of lovely turkey, both were so tender! YUM! I had to have the veg on a 2nd plate because with a Huge Yorkshire pudding and FOUR slices of meat there was no room on the plate. (Go just to see them for yourselves) Great quality Meat and Vegetables, everything was cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes were gawjus! I Can't wait to return and try the Steak or Burgers, which is what I went in for....Next time. I've already chosen my preferential table, and will book it! This is definitely going to be our 'go to' restaurant in future, we want to eat our way through the fabulous menu. Thanks to Olly for making us welcome, we met him as we arrived, he is so nice, (New Management) wishing them good luck in the future of the restaurant. Now for the bad bit... I left lots, sorry....couldn't eat it all! I'm not a big eater anyway, it would feed 2 or 3 people in my house. For that price too....but that's just me, hubby ate all his....men's portions. We will be regulars.

Big get together here today. Food was decent and fairly quick service, our table was catered too fantastically. Staff are very accommodating and polite. I must say one young lady was excellent, came over to our table with colouring pens for the little ones despite being rushed off her feet. Then back over to help clean the highchair after she saw baby had made a bit of a mess. I was more than happy to do it myself but she insisted. So helpful. Rarely see staff go above and beyond these days, overall very impressed! Lovely Christmas lunch.

Visit Holly Blue every Tuesday evening to play with our Ukulele group. Had an excellent meal there on Tuesday 5th December before our Christmas get together. Excellent service provided by Skye and Aimee.

12 of us booked for dinner today . I have to say this place never disappoints . The food was great and the service was excellent . The staff here are always great and very hard working . Thanks to a wonderful team for the excellent service .

We go there every Tuesday evening for our Ukulele band practice and we had our Christmas dinner there on Tuesday 5th December and it was one of the best carvery we have had for ages. The meat was plentiful and I had beef and turkey and both were moist and tender and loads of vegetables to go with it. The chap servicing the meal was smiling and helpful and joking and it was all excellent as so many vegetables and roast potatoes and the roast parsnips were mouth watering. Skye and Aimee were so helpful and friendly there can well recommend this place.

This is a great venue for our Ukulele group. It has ample seating a good menu and bar. Also a large car park.

My wife and myself had the Sunday Carvery and the meal was totally cold by the time we sat down. The roast potatoes were inedible. The meat was tender but also cold. When we told the waitress she just apologised and that was that. We won't be bothering with the carvery again in a hurry for nearly £29 for two.

Last minute decision to go for Sunday evening roast. It was pretty bad. The meat was dried the roast potatoes and a half cooked 1/2 of a gun bullet illegible vegetables will pool overcooked almost run out of gravy. It was absolutely disgusting and I certainly would not go again

We took my mum for her birthday. 5 of us. Have been here before but not for a while. There seemed to be something going on with the staff as we felt immediately uncomfortable. The guy serving the carvery disappeared for ages and when he came back was really rude to us. Food was dry and boring. Not much choice. I’m not sure why this guy is working here as he clearly hates his job. Manager apologised. It was much quieter than I remember before, and I can see why.

My family and I went to this pub on the afternoon of 18/08. There were 8 of us. Some of us had items from the menu. The rest had a carvery. The food was great. The roasted meat was lovely. My five year old son is quite fussy and he gobbled his dinner up. However, the carvery meat carver was rude, abusive, threw his weight around when I questioned the tiny plate he pulled out when I had ordered a Large plate, poured the meat from the small plate on to the large one with no care at all and thrust the plate down. He was rude to my mother, he was rude to me and when I spoke to the manager about it - who was apologetic and gracious - he told me I was a racist and that he “knew racism when he saw it”. No part of the conversation at any point related to his or anyone else’s heritage. As said the manager was good, gave us a partial refund of the meals we had and we continued our lovely meal. Massive disappointment that the carver thought it was okay to behave like this in public and in front of the customers that pay his wages when they buy the venues food. Disappointed that he felt he could behave like this towards a customer and being in a customer-facing role. My mother and father are regulars here and I used to go there every week before the pandemic. None of us will set foot there again. Kudos to the manager and bar lady because they were kind and understood my grievance. I expect more and would recommend that anyone gives this place a wide berth.

Not a great experience! The food was nice but the venue not so. It's a very child friendly place as there seemed to be alot of families with children there. it seems very 'functional' not terribly clean or atmospheric and poor effort with the xmas decorations!

Went for an evening meal and being a Tuesday was very quiet. We had a dog with us but no problem. Extensive pub menu and a carvery which looked a tad tired and dry by 7pm. Our food was plentiful and well cooked.
