Frant Lakes in Wealden

I have cycled past here so very very often and never tried the cafe. I should have read the reviews on here first! I stopped for a latte and a cake and the guy working here I am sure does not drink coffee. He was so out of his depth with the coffee machine I ended up with just hot milk!! In the old adage “You only get one chance to make a good first impression” Sorry but this time you failed. Yelling at me when I left that I could not go down and look at the lake as I might upset the fishermen having earlier told me there were no fishermen was not worth debating either. In short if you fish here use the cafe, if you are passing…… Keep on passing.

Had a great day today took my grandson for the first time today turned up gave our name went into the office bought our bait the man behind the counter gave us good advice on what lake to fish had a good day with him catching his pb well run beautiful lakes good atmosphere will definitely return.

Just what you want. Friendly Chef, served all 6 of us in quick time, lovely setting and a great cheap fry up. Will definitely be back, best in the area.

Food was excellent the guy who served it was a bit deaf but we overcame that, the woman who owned it was very rude to us informing us that dogs are not allowed and their are signs down the drive saying this, no their isn't we checked and they never got out of the car.

Had a reasonable first time experience,slightly spoiled by the low water levels which made landing fish very awkward.

Been coming to the lakes for years it's always been a pleasure the only down side was I ordered food from dot cottons cafe and was told too busy I couldn't walk too far as had a stress fracture in my foot. don't need to hear that on a hot day it wasn't busy that day there was only two people on the lake. So next time take my own food and drink so if he goes out business will know why job done

Tried to visit Frant Lakes today on the way home only to be greeted by an indignant woman who said “no” when we asked to have a walk around the lakes because apparently we might fall over and sue them !! Don’t waste your time even visiting for a cup of tea as you can’t get in at all and she didn’t seem bothered. All in all extremely rude and won’t ever try and visit again

Fish day ticket had 5 carp biggest was 20.10lbs. It was wet and muddy but no one can control the weather. I had a good day.

Lovely place nice & quiet. Good food, good price. Nice people.

First time visiting frant lakes , very impressed . Great service of taking your equipment down to lake 8 . Quality lakes highly recommended 5*

What a let down !!! Very expensive! , rude owner .

After a recent trip to frant, on speci lake 8. From the start the staff were miserable, especially the driver that took us down. I have fished these lakes since I was a kid. Now been banned Because we ordered food which came when the gates were closed. We sincerely apologised to the owner who was extremely rude. Wanted to take my son for a days fishing, tried to book online and says I am banned. We are always polite, never leave a mess and take good care of the fish we catch. And get banned for a silly mistake.

The Owen was rude and aggressive from the moment we got there,would not recommend never coming again.

2nd time been totally let down by the owners of this lake. Booked the whole lake months in advance, to then be told with no notice sorry you we have a winter league so your out. To happen once you can accept but twice just not on and a poor way to run a fishery. We certainly never being booking again! my star 0/10

Excellent place to fish kids had a fantastic time

Don't bother! Went there for a look round to see what the fishing was like but couldn't get past the gate! Told we were not allowed to look around because of Covid ! Not given any reason but just told no! Don't waste your time

A really nice fishery. Plenty of lakes for all levels of angler. The fish are really well looked after as well. I would highly recommend this place for a pleasant days fishing.

Managed to hook this 36lb 2oz mirror from lake 7. Real chunky fish but put up a proper fight🎣💪🏻🎣

Fished stumps on Sunday, had a great session. Had quite a few nice carp out on the float rod. Definitely returning. Also love the booking system.

Love this place always a great time kids allowed and disabled facilities are available you never leave without a catch and the little cafe serves great food

Had a great days fishing on Lake 4, found the carp to be very cautious, especially when floater fishing on the surface. Did catch a nice carp on a PVA rig setup though. Dropped a star only due to the snags of which my swim had a few, Staff were very polite and the shop was well stocked with all the basics,

Omg... what a fantastic lake, lovely staff and beautiful fish. My advice, had to the specimen lake as there a 23lb Ghost Carp waiting to be reeled in 😍.. thank me later!

Looks well kept, nice cafe good breakfast ,good facilities shower /toilets ,They have a very reasonable bait shop on site too smurf is very helpful too , fished lake 7 did 24 hours in august hottest day of the year caught some quality fish really recommend it to others . 19lb 6oz 22lb 3oz 24lb 3oz

Hi been to frant lakes a few times before great experience Perfect for fishing freindly staff very helpful Your tackle was drove down to where you were fishing as the lakes were quite far from the carpark You didn't need to take the extra baggage for food drink more bait if needed because you called the office and they brought what ever you needed to your swim so you didn't even have to pull your rods in if you needed anything Which was great thats why I've been there a few times This weekend I recommend this to a few friends and we went Unfortunately this was the worst fishing trip I've ever been on I was embarrassed and appoliget to my friends as they had travelled far and spent quite abit of money for this trip brought no food or drink as I told them no worries they have it all The cafe was 9nly open for half a day so if you wanted food whether you were hungry or not had to get before 1pm Then was told we can't come you you have to walk all the way back up and collect Despite all this we stayed for the anyway In the morning I said to the lads I will go up to cafe and get us a cup of tea and a bit of breakfast When I got there it was busy as there was a fishing match onside I waited when finally go to the counter I asked for a few teas and some breakfast rolls The man rudley replied no I am only serving match fishermen today I asked again politely surley you can at least serve me a few teas He replied I told you twice now no So due to this even though we had paid to fish till 6pm thT day we packed up around 8am and left Never again would I go back to this place

Very rude on the phone, very angry the way I just got spoke to over the phone, I would most definitely not recommend this lake if they talk like that over the phone I wonder how the would talk to you at the lake

Yes very nice place . I've fished here for 48 hours on lake 7 . Got 6 fish 2 of them 20 pound other under . Good cafe with food delivery on the bank . I would definitely go again . Downside : the swims next to the river . To narrow . You will definitely struggle to put a 1 man bivy up .2 man bivy is a challenge. They don't tell you from beginning which swims you going to fish from .

The fishery is clean, tidy and well run. I've always had a good bend in the rod whenever I have fished Frant lakes. Baits and tactics vary but it is a lot of fun angling here.

Always a pleasure to fish down at Frant. It's been a while since the last visit and it's changed a little. Obviously Covid has had an effect but I was surprised to see it so quiet across all lakes mid week. It has that sleeping giant feel about it right now. Didn't get a chance to say hi to the owners Paul and Wendy but had a nice relaxing 24 hours on the bank of lake 7.

Fished here yesterday 20/6/20, went on lake 4 and have a terrific days fishing, plenty of carp all in tip top condition, catching off the top and bottom. Highly recommend this place

Fished here back in September 2019,only been carp fishing for a year before my son and his friend ask me to tag along to Frant lanes for weekend so did only took a few bits of tackle with me as didn't want to look prefessional lol but enjoyed the weekend beating my PB of 11lbs to which I landed 1@ 13lbs 4oz and beat that with 19lbs6oz so be back 2020 to try and beat that ,had breakfast but little to big to finish I think bacon and egg buttie next time.

Beautiful lakes and scenery but the fish need more care taken as alot are sick, deformed and small. One visit there was a digger in the water with oil leaking from it.

Good fishing and very good facilities.

Great venue, great value, fished it for the first time, did 36 hours with my son, had a nice common with plenty of fight and in perfect condition, had lots of runs, staff very helpful and pleasant, didn`t use the cafe this time, but it looks very clean as were the other facilities, definitely be back many times A+

Amazing weekend fishing. Superb fish caught and superb surrounding wildlife including some inquisitive badgers.

As many of the comments say below, good fishing but a rude and abrupt owner who seems to be on some kind of power trip.

Just left Frant lakes after a very pleasant afternoon fishing , more than I can say upon our departure !! there was an open gate with a road leading to further lakes which we thought we would drive down and take a quick look for future reference. It then became apparent that the owner was in hot pursuit , we stopped as we assumed there must be something wrong !!! The elderly gentlemen pulled up in his van and in a Rude and aggressive manner and somewhat dangerous way stopped short of smashing into us . My husband at this point asked what what wrong ? and was told vehicles were not allowed along that part of road we apologised the gate was open !!! therefore no sign could be seen But we’re still spoken to in a very rude and pompous manner !!!! Spoilt today’s fishing 🎣 ( might explain why We had the lake to ourselves 🤔)

Lovely beautiful lakes in beautiful surroundings, children and disabled friendly, nice toilets and a restaurant for the fisherman, night fishing 🎣 available, reasonable prices, concessions for disabled which I like and the ease of parking next to some of the lakes for disabled! Lovely mix of silvers and carp, specimen like for the dedicated carp hunters, staff very friendly and helpful too! Well worth a visit! Thank you The Howard family

Won't bother to fish here as you are not allowed to look round the lakes before hand according to the miserable old and rude man in the office.

Great place, this weekend was my 4th visit to Frant and the 2nd overnighter with my 15 year old son. We had 51 carp out of lake 2 ( new record for us )as well as tench and the dreaded bream. The staff are excellent, as is the onsite café. Almost got locked in the main building toilets as I didn't realise the time and it shuts at 7pm. The swims are good with some really large ones for 2 or 3 bivvies and the fishing is non stop if you are on the right bait, we had to pull the rods in at about 1am just to get some sleep! A nice, clean and well kept fishery, and highly recommended if you have got youngsters with you that want to learn the basics without getting bored. will be back again soon.

Brilliant day i had. Staff at Grant lake helpful and pleasant cracking on site cafe and tackle shop. Plus i broke all my records p/b and specimen will be back

Visited today ahead of bringing my son here to introduce him to fishing. Friendly helpful chap at the reception. I set up with a basic 3BB waggler float, size 18 barbless and sweetcorn and managed to catch four fish in the brief two hours I was there at Lake 6. Of course, I lost the biggest fish (roach?) while reeling in one of my first few casts. It dropped off the hook before I could get the net under it. Lovely and quiet environment and had an enjoyable time as a complete amateur. I'll be back tomorrow this time with my boy in tow. Many thanks Frant Lakes. 16 August 2017. Returned again today with my son. Jerry very helpful at reception. My son caught three fish and I had the final catch of the day with a medium size bream. Great fun in beautiful surroundings. We saw a stork and two other birds 'strafing' the surface fish. Huge carp could be seen in a group of five. Winter 2017 / February 2018 My son and I have both caught plenty of perch but to our delight we both had 2.5 pounders on two separate visits. Caught on a trusty worm!

Very nice day water fishery if you're after a day session or a night or two. Shame Crowborough Tackle is no longer there. Some very nice big carp in lake 8 and lake 7 is good for a bit of confidence building. Lots of 20s in both.

Lake 7 has plenty of hard fighting carp, always good for a bite.

Awesome ! 1st time visit, and i must say everybody was very helpful and polite. The lakes themselves are well maintained, and plenty of space around the swims for the bivvy's. We fished the sunken snag's lake and had 21 carp between us, largest being a 24lb Common. Have to say - the fish fight exceptionally well and were in good condition. The hut / cafe / bait shop and other facilities are all top notch - couldn't have asked for more really. Would i return ? YES. Will i recommend it ? YES. Thanks's again !! (The lads from Gatwick)

Lovely fishing lake, the ticket guy very rude, he needs to learn some manners & respect for the public. Only wanted to view the lake, then decide if I was going to fish it or my regular fishery. But needed to pay before looking at lake. He came out the hut like a headmaster at a school. Won't be fishing frant lakes again. (Can't fault the fishing lakes very peaceful).

what a rip off,cant get night ticket have to get 24hour one,have to pay for 2 rods when only using 1,yet day tickets and single rods you can get,had to pay 55 pounds for me and my brother to fish,and we only had 1 rod each,never going back again

The cafe at Frant Lakes has recently been taken over by Sussex Spit Roast and what a good job they have made of it ! The food is plentiful and freshly cooked, midweek Fraser is the man behind the counter and he's aided and abetted by his wife Annie at the weekend, a friendlier and more helpful cafe you would be very hard pushed to find. I am regularly in the area and make it a point to drop in. Give the place a try (you won't be disappointed) it's set in idyllic surroundings with a view over 3 of the 8 lakes with a covered outdoor eating area to the side of the building for the sunny days we've been having lately !

Worst customer service from all the fisheries I have been to! Rude, arrogant and patronising tw..ts! Maybe a good fishing spot, but I left the shop feeling like sh..t

Had breakfast here a couple of times in the last month, good value for money and fresh cooked to order with several options available and all done with a friendly smile. They have a varied menu covering all times of the day so if you're in the area they are well worth a visit, with plenty of free parking and lovely views across the lake.

Breakfast pancakes are wonderful at any time of the day. Being a vegetarian, I have also had the butternut squash and beetroot burger which was amazing. Lovely couple running the cafe and well worth a visit. Plenty of free parking available for cycles, bikes and cars and a great patio area for outside eating.

Spent some wonderful time fishing Frant lakes , owners Paul and Wendy are pleasant and respectful and help out with info of the lakes , on site tackle shop , cafe , showers and so much more , well worth a visit

Great for fishing in the 200 acre plus swathe of land. Beautiful scenery, spoiled at first by the rather stuck up owner, who slowly becomes more relaxed. Once entering the grounds though, all that can be thought of, is the great experience that awaits!

What a pleasant experience. No rushing in the early hours as I was able to book a swim in advance, brilliant as I am not an early riser and was on the lake I wanted. Bacon sandwich and coffee on arrival from the friendly cafe and purchased my bait from the vast range in the shop. They drove me to the lake and the chap was happy to answer questions on location and Lake bed. Very knowledgeable about that and the recent trends on where the fish are showing. He stated he would bring down lunch if i ordered from the cafe. Great session with a PB at 28.8lb. The chap opposite had 3 yes 3 different 30 's. Lovely venue plenty of wildlife including deer, and very peaceful. I was picked up by the owner who was pleasant and interested in my stay. Altogether an excellent experience and I will be booking on again very soon.
