Been going there for 25 years, long before the new building. It’s always been pricy but the food was good so just paid it. But now it’s £11 for a sandwich with cold chips, and £8 for a slice of cake. Finally voting with my feet on this one. There are far better garden centres nearby where prices are literally half, and the food is much better. Went to Old Barn on A24 and for sandwich, drink and cuppa for two it was £24. Same at Haskins would be about £45

Poor Customer Service Had a pot of tea today that was just awful, very weak and no taste. I don’t usually complain but decided to take it back. The assistant restaurant manager was at the checkout so I told him and asked for a pot with 2 teabags. He said he couldn’t do that as that costs too much. No apology too.So he agreed to a new pot half full with one bag! Is that customer service? Really? It was still awful, couldn’t drink it.

Disinterested staff - very poor service- unhygienic Visited to have tea and cake - apart from being very expensive there were wasps flying about on the cake section- they were landing on the cakes - when I informed the staff about the wasps - one assistant said to me ‘that’s ok they are not poisonous’ she was not bothered at all - I have to say this put me off and we did not have any refreshments. On the way out I informed customer services - she apologised but didn’t do anything. However we went to high down garden centre cafe where the service cake and tea were excellent

Extortionate prices in their restaurants Cream tea each items added individually not including a hot drink which you have to buy separately. Cost me £13 for two hot drinks, 1 scone, 1 small jam & 1 tiny clotted cream. Disgusting.

We regularly visit garden centres mainly for coffee and cakes in the morning and sometimes for lunch. We even occasionally buy the odd plant! Haskins has become just a very occasional visit - it’s very expensive and often understaffed, with food in particular extremely poor value. We recently visited with friends, who had not been before, and all of us were horrified by the cost and quality of the food. A toasted sandwich and toasted panini were microwaved together leaving the panini overdone. Both were served with a limp salad and almost cold chips (these are a compulsory part of the ‘meal’ presumably to try to justify the cost) - £10.95 each!!! Leaving aside anything else, having to listen to the obviously disinterested serving ladies (customers were clearly a distraction to them) moan all the time didn’t add to the ambience. There are far better garden centre cafes around - my advice is to go elsewhere!

Still no public wifi after 6 weeks at least But there's wifi for the tills! Filthy floors and tables. Cutlery never cleaned properly. Trays after people have finished eating do not get cleared away- and can sit there for at least 2 hours in some instances. Have had to ask to have mine cleared away on several occasions. Managers do not walk the restaurant floor only the galley area. Burnt toast every morning if you check Staff label customers- they even happily tell you-l your label- do not order the same meal more than once for fear of it lol If you attempt to leave an item off a meal or ask for anything that's not slightly different like instead of chips can I have a slice of bread- confusion galore! It's like the operation just comes to a hault! Please make the tills easier for your staff! Stop sticking stupid hospital style lids on your lunches! What's that all about? Really? Come on? Do you see any other restaurants doing this? Why do you think that is? Grumpy younger restaurant staff especially one of the female supervisors- witnessed her very cold and abrupt manor to a customer couple weeks ago, then very blunt with me also- then flick of a switch and she was laughing and joking about a uni essay due in tomorrow with her co worker at the costa till behind. Not a great look. Customer service- Can I talk to a manager please? Any manager will do. No they are all in a meeting. No they aren't I can see one from here! Really where? Right there-look! Ok let me go and find him you wait here for 10 mins why I waste your time some more. Then when I come back I'll argue some more while I tell you that I meant the general manager was in a meeting. Hopelessly trained restaurant staff and customer service - 40% of them. Managers are conscientious to be fair but cannot or will not implement changes. Some denial going on here. Needs an over haul-a customer focused manager from another branch to come and have a meal in this place and feed back the findings to the current general manager and restaurant manager - I think then you'll be surprised and understand the issues here.

Had a roast dinner today and a regular coffee £19.25p, a bit steep!! The dinner tasted lovely, however, there appeared to be not enough staff. There was only one person in front of me but service was so slow, my dinner was barely warm by the time I sat down to eat it. I also had to clear the table I sat on, and ate from my tray because the table was not clean. Come on Haskins. If you are charging the prices then please sort out staffing issues. There were a lot of spare tables but all with used crockery.

The good thing about this garden centre is they have free parking ! and that’s about it ! We thought we would start our visit with a Coffee and Tea and a cake each ….I really don’t mind paying but ! 1 Eccles cake medium size £3.75 !!!! 1 Very Small Flapjack £3.50 !!! We both felt that this was grossly over priced . Thank goodness we decided not to eat a meal there as again looking at the prices on the board grossly overpriced … I bitterly regret not asking one of the servers if I could speak to the restaurant manager , and speak directly and give our opinion whilst in the restaurant …… If the manager would like to contact me I will be more than happy to discuss our visit …

You queue, if busy, at the food counter of your choice. Over several visits we have selected from the sandwich, soup, & other counters. The prices seem a little high for a cafeteria until you get the food. It is large, well presented, & very tasty. The excellent soup was served with a choice of bread. Large sandwich was served with lots of side bits; all tasty. Fish & chips & mushy peas was really too big for lunch, for us as our main meal is at dinner time (next time we will have childs portion each. After obtaining your food on a tray, you go to the drinks counter for tea etc & to pay. We have always found a table, even when very busy. You get your cutlery etc from a bar in middle of tables & water if required. The drop from 5 stars is the ambience; huge space, noise like most places, number of counter choices though perhaps that is good when there are so many delicious choices & lots of customers. We'll be back soon even if we have no gardening requirements.

At the carvery I was given 2 tiny slices off the end of the turkey joint about 3 inches in circumference and was informed that was the ration . As I progressed having the vegetables added I noticed clients following me were being served much larger slices off the centre of the joint so I pointed this out and was very begrudgingly given another slice. I appreciate times are hard for the hospitality industry and I can understand that the meat is restricted, and even the potatoes as we were asked 2 or 3 but surely it is not unreasonable for the meat allocation being the equivalent of 2 normal sized slices. Another pound on the price at nearly 16 pounds but the service very poor. This is a Garden Centre cafe not a high end restaurant with waiters serving you and so on. Certainly from the staff I engaged with the attitude was take it or leave so I think next time I will go where I am served with a smile , or at least politeness.

Stopped for lunch with my wife, never again. Both of us had jacket potato, which were lukewarm at best, undercooked or just very poor quality hard potatoes, skins were very soft so almost certainly microwave cooked. My wife had cheese and beans on hers, cheese like rubber and had no flavour, beans again lukewarm. I had chilli and sour cream, the quantity of chilli was so small it lasted about half the potato, the chilli would have been alright had it been served hot and with enough to last the whole potato. Just short of £19.00 for totally unacceptable rubbish food, how do they get away with serving this awful food

We've been here many times before over the years. It has become unbelievably expensive. The tables are left dirty for way too long. There are not enough staff to handle the amount of people wanting to eat. The lunch was nice but there wasn't much choice when we were there, lunch was still being offered, but basically, leftovers and many things were no longer there. It used to be much better, we are a bit sad about it, but it really isn't worth going there for lunch anymore. Maybe just for a coffee and some cake, but not hot food, and not when they are busy.

We visited here to see the Christmas display and to have coffee and cake. Unfortunately although there was a good selection of normal but rather expensive cakes there was not one gluten free option. Even the usual wrapped brownie was not to be had as upon asking why we were told they were not ready to be put out on the counter! Really? It was 11.00am so presuming they were frozen someone had obviously forgotten to get them out of the freezer early enough. We have had this conversation with a manger before who has promised to sort the out the situation. He obviously is only interested in people who have no allergies ( my husband is a coeliac so has no choice but to eat gluten free food). In these times we feel this is totally unacceptable so obviously will not be visiting again but going to the Garden an Aquatic Centre just up the road which can manage to provide home made gluten free cakes.

My wife and I popped in for lunch at about 1.45pm on a Thursday, the restaurant is very pleasant and was not very busy The jacket potatoes seemed expensive at around £9.50 each and you could not have a tuna one without spring onion. We settled to have a piece of cake and a drink each. I chose a rum baba which looked delicious with plenty of fresh cream and topped with fruit and my wife chose a piece of fruit cake as she is dairy intolerant. The cakes were about £4.95 each. ordered an iced cappuccino and my wife tea. The Rum baba was indeed as delicious as it looked but my wife’s fruit cake was very dry to the extent that the edge shattered when cut and she had to leave the outer edge. She has had this before there and it has been fine. Overall we were a little disappointed as the prices seemed high, even for a garden centre, and the fruit cake was almost inedible. The staff were pleasant and the place was very clean.

Food is of good quality and fairly varied. The tables are regularly cleaned after each person leaves. The fish (fish and chips) is cooked several at a time and placed on a heat storage tray above, I prefer to have my fish cooked as I wait though. The waitress staff are very helpful, this is probably due to the excellent restaurant manager he is so cheerful and especially nice and helpful, he also seems to treat his staff with respect, he is a big credit to Haskings.

Told our dog wasn’t allowed today and that “there are signs” (tiny sign amid a plethora or covid rules and paraphernalia) we’ll spend our money elsewhere. Squires or Old Barn Nursery have welcomed our pooch during social distancing measures.

I met my friend for lunch and was disappointed at the very limited menu, hardly any hot food. No panini’s, roast, jacket potatoes but there was pizza. The coffee queues are there usual chaotic self sadly. We had a baguette and Blueberry muffins which was quite good.

Haskins is a lovely place to visit when you're looking to buy plants etc for your house and garden. Their social distancing measures are fantastic and easy to follow and once inside, they have a plethora of things to buy. If you're looking for books, garden furniture, BBQ's they have it all. Their plants, followers and trees are well laid out at the back and are reasonably priced. You also get a 2 year guarantee.Unfortunately the café was closed due to coronavirus, but we've eaten there before and the food is lovely and you can get a variety of hot and cold dishes. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. There's also a very large car park so no worries there! All in all, a very nice place to go.

I was slightly cautious about venturing into the restaurant, my first outing post lockdown, however I must say staff were very helpful, the environment was quite reassuring and one particular staff member, a chef, Tony I believe his name was, went above and beyond helping my wife and baby son with our meals and drinks, ensuring we had everything we needed. He was clearly very busy but he made the time to male sure we were all comfortable and looked after. I will be returning soon!

Taken measures for coronavirous too far. Staff are like the army and customers are biohazards. Adding to over inflated anxiety for a virus with a 99.7% survival rate (cdc Place the ifr at 0.26).really unpleasant... Like being in a horrifying parallel universe. Used to go all the time. Probably won't go again.

I went to Haskins restaurant for a breakfast this morning and was extremely impressed with the measures the staff are taking to maintain a safe dinning experience, during this tricky time! Also all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, however one member of staff, I assumed to be a chef, who served our food, called Tony, went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we desired!Great service, great food! Overall a fantastic experience, highly recommended!

Haskins Restaurant was my grandson's choice of where to take me for lunch one day during my visit to Worthing. The restaurant is spotlessly clean, light and airy, and the choice of food excellent for me as I am vegetarian and avoid grains. My grandson chose a Pizza which was cooked to order. He was given a pager and when the pizza was ready he went to the counter to collect it. A great idea! I had an oven baked jacket potato with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and salad which was fresh and delicious. The portions were very generous and excellent value. I shall certainly visit again next time I am in Worthing and hopefully have more time to enjoy the garden centre too.

I visited the cafe for a Costa coffee and was encouraged to have the breakfast bloomer. This was based on the selection and variety of breakfast items to be chosen. The is a huge selection of food here and an amazing range of cakes.A few weeks previous I met a friend here and the custard slice was delicious. We worth a visit even if you just want a drink. Ample seating too.

We have reviwed this cafe previously and have not given them very good reviews. The restaurant manager has now changed and the restaurant has improved greatly. The staff seem much happier and not under so much pressure. The restaurant is much cleaner and tables are being cleared more quickly. All in all a much better experience. Lastly, a big thank you goes to the manager for giving us a large cookie for expressing our views - well done long may it continue.

Visiting my sister from the US and was craving a vanilla slice around and Haskins certainly did not disappoint. Soups are always delicious too (I had the pea, mint and ham). Great lunch spot.

We were visiting the garden centre and decided to stop for a coffee, it wasn’t busy and we ordered 2 lattes with a shot of caramel and a hot choc, but even though there were 5 people behind the counter milling about, they forgot the order and it took forever, why on earth does the order system have to be that complicated for a drink? We found a table but it was filthy so I asked the lady wiping tables to clean it, she was very helpful but laughed and said I think that’s someone’s idea of it already been cleaned. Judging by the amount of dirty tables they obviously shouldn’t be doing the job. They have a massive choice of food here but not sure it would be worth the wait if 3 drinks takes over 15 minutes to make!

Eight family members decided to meet for breakfast in the restaurant today (Sunday 9/2), the new restaurant manager , Karim, was excellent. He ensured our breakfasts were served immediately and all our requirements were met. He was efficient, very professional and so polite. His presence is definitely recognised in the restaurant, he makes a REAL difference. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and will definitely be visiting more often. Sarah Haines

Took Mum & Dad there for tea & cake this morning & the whole thing was lack lustre. The cake was dry as if it had been standing out all night, the service was abysmal, I asked for a toasted tea cake for Mum, the lady put it in the pizza oven & walked away to serve teas & coffees. It was not until someone else turned up & asked what we were waiting for that this person found the charred remains of the tea cake in the oven, she put in another & stood waiting for it to toast. When we left the garden centre with our purchases, the girlie on the till was so miserable, she made no eye contact at all & I felt she would crack her makeup if she had smiled. Not a good experience at all today, one wondered if all the staff had just been given notice.

Went to have a coffee and cake at Haskins with a friend, it was very busy but we did find a table. The coffee was nice and so was the cake the atmosphere was busy but you could have a conversation and hear yourself in there. It’s a very popular meeting place and it has a Fabulous garden centre with lots to see prices are pretty steep but the Christmas decorations are beautiful well worth a visit. Lots of people of all Ages which is always lovely to see.
