The Beach House Restaurant in New Forest

Building and Rooms lovely. Room was excellent in terms of size, appointment, cleanliness and comfort of bed (unfortunately it was a bit stuffy; noisy when kitchen fans were on; and, strangely, no-where to hang towels). Unfortunately, the Downstairs (bar and Restaurant) is tired and has a 'grubby pub' feel; e.g. crockery not clean, 'restaurant' waiting staff were super friendly but not knowledgeable nor efficient. Barman actually quite brusque and pulled cork from £30 bottle of wine out of sight of table and plonked on the table like a bottle of ketchup.

Came for a Sunday roast… don’t bother if it’s after 4pm you won’t get anything roast related or much choice on the mains either! The staff looked scruffy and not given their customers much acknowledgment. It’s a shame as been here a handful of times and it’s always been quite nice but this experience has put me off as it supports the opinions of friends who have also visited. Disappointed as was a great spot all year round.

I feel so grumpy and miserable writing this but it’s the honest truth if our recent experience. I booked a table 6 weeks in advanced for my family of 6 to have a Sunday roast (evening) however there was no roast available, and weren’t told until we sat down and looked at the menus. No courtesy phone call or email or even acknowledgement of this once we had arrived. The staff also looked rather scruffy one was wearing a grey Hoodie and tracksuit bottoms, just didn’t seem up to their normal standard. However this guy was kind and did apologies about our experience. As well as no Sunday roast options available there weren’t many options on the main menu either as most sold out and they had even run out of Guinness!!! Very disappointing as we have been a handful of times over the years and have had great food and service however, the last 6 months it seems to be going downhill. Service & food were not great this time around. It is such a shame as it’s a great location and beautiful building. Save your money & try somewhere else! Fingers crossed they improve - I have shared my feedback with the directly through their website, hoping to hear back.

Haven't been for a while as we were disappointed with the food. Unfortunately doesn't seem to have improved. Food overcooked and looked as though it had been in a warmer for a while. Service charge added yet service not that good.

The staff were very helpful professional and friendly. The surrounding are interesting and some parts had a good atmosphere. The food however was over priced and didn’t deliver. Such a shame. The menu sounded great but when the food arrived, the ‘house salad’ was wilted leaves with cherry tomatoes. The food was luke warm. The burger came with ‘burger sauce’ which was actually Mary rose sauce. The wine was over £10 per glass, and quality wasn’t really justified. Just a few things would have made this much nicer.

The building and restaurant are lovely, the young serving staff were excellent and the food was good with generous portions.

What a disappointment 😔 terrible from start to finish. I think they need to re think the staff. The service was awful, everything about it was awful. The mussels were also dried up and brown. I’m dreading the morning. Such a shame because it’s a a beautiful place. But jeez, I think the owners need to get back in the floor and see how it’s ran. So disappointed and spent a lot of money.

Inadequate is the only word that comes to mind. From the specials board the Brie and beetroot quiche and salad sounded great. However it was presented as an individual quiche and a small handful of pea shoots. That’s it. Main course £16. I asked if I could have extra salad, just salad. I was told that I had the dish as it was supposed to be served. The very nice waiter then said I could have a side of ceasar salad. To my horror brown little gem overwhelmed with nasty cheese and lots of croutons appeared.

Fine building and a window table overlooking the Needles on a sunny November day is hard to beat, but food did not live up to much. Some of party had been before and thought it was a distinct decline - perhaps all attention was on the wedding that was taking place. Service was sloppy and nobody thought their food was better than “ok”

We sort of “fell” on this whilst driving back to our Hotel. It’s a gorgeous spot….backs on to the Solent with a fabulous promenade by the water. We just ordered from the Bar for lunch, so no table service…but the food was lovely and plentiful, prices were fair and the service excellent! We will return.

Visited here for a birthday meal with my husband, parents and 2 year old. We were staying locally and have been to The Beach House for dinner a few years ago and highly rated it. Unfortunately we came away from there this time feeling disappointed. We requested olives as a starter whilst we waited for our meals, these never turned up. My husband and dad had the burger and were very disappointed with their meals. We are out elsewhere the following evening at a much ‘lower’ standard setting and both commented on how much nicer the burgers were. Myself and my mum had the chicken, which was very dry. My little girl had the fish goujons and chips, portion size could have fed an adult! Such a shame as we loved The Beach House and had really high hopes of a lovely meal. The house and setting itself is beautiful.

We’ve visited The Beach House Hotel a couple of times over the past few months and always thoroughly enjoyed our visit there. Both times we had a warm & friendly greeting plus excellent food and drinks. The Sunday Roast is delicious!Although we hadn’t booked for Sunday lunch the restaurant was fully booked so we were sat in the library which is so lovely and cosy with beautiful wooden panelling and very interesting decor. Dogs are welcome too! Thoroughly recommend a meal here especially after a bracing walk along the beach and nature reserve.

We did not stay at the hotel but booked for dinner. Not what we were expecting. Service was not great. Food was average. The building itself was lovely and a nice setting. We had coffee and cake a few days earlier which was lovely. Would I go again? No.

Spent two nights,as always room was lovely (have been in that room before) good choice at breakfast, dinner first night, pie was abit dry rest of meals fine, second evening food was good. Cannot fault staff, all very friendly and helpful would definitely go back. Hotel very quirky (typically hall and Woodhouse) beautiful views across the solent.

Probably the worst Sunday roast I have had in years. I booked a table here for Sunday lunch because I thought it was refreshing to read on their restaurants web site ‘we only serve “pink” beef’. As I had a little dog, we were relegated to the lounge area where the tables and chairs don’t really lend themselves to having anything other then a drink, and also, you had to go to the bar to order anything you wanted to eat pr drink and pay for it immediately upfront, which I thought was a bit strange until later when I was presented with my meal and then I realised why. They appeared to have only one wine list for the whole of the eating area, and when eventually tracked down, it had no prices on it, so we had to then ask how much each individual bottle cost. On ordering my roast beef, I was asked how I would like my beef. “Rare please” I said , thinking “ this bodes well” How wrong I was. When it arrived there were only two colours to describe the beef - grey or brown - completely over cooked, and when I complained - saying “but this is not what you advertised” , they just came back with “ ok, would you like to order the pork or chicken instead?”. In summary, ghastly meal: if you want well done beef, cardboard potatoes, mushy vegetables and tasteless gravy then this is the place for you, otherwise my advice is - go somewhere else.

We all enjoyed beautifully cooked food and enjoyed fish cakes, a pie, seafood and tart. Great ambience and friendly waiter service helped to make it a celebration to remember.

I cannot fault the food , however, the attitude of the barman on the 8th sept left a lot to be desired.he was rude, dismissive and made us feel like we were really not wanted and were an inconvenience. We all live locally but based on this experience we will not be returning, sorry.

A very disappointing visit. Great location and building. But food and service was a let down. Menu items missing, Tanglefoot beer unavailable (there main beer). Food was bland and not cooked and presented as per menu Told the waitress that the fish cakes were bland and stodgy, the salad dressing was missing With numerous errors we got a sorry about that. Any effort to make it right. comping one glass of wine on our wedding anniversary (and we our locals) might have made us return.

The online booking system works well and allows you to make specific requests, eg will have a dog with us. We were welcomed personally and given a lovely table in accordance with the booking request.

Don t think I’ve had a worse meal. !! Steak like a shoe sole , salad obviously left under hot light , what lovely venue , just don’t eat here !!!

When someone else is paying, sometimes you don't want to spoil the occasion by making a fuss at the time.I have been used to very good food at the Beach House, so I was disappointed today at lunch. My squash filled ravioli came topped with yellow, rank, about to decompose, Rocket. I sent it back and it came back topped with green, fresh Rocket. The kitchen hadn't run out, so there was no excuse for the yellow stuff in the first place. However, the new Rocket was used to disguise elderly reheated carrots and one stem of overcooked tender stem Broccoli, plus some cherry tomatoes that had seen better days. The ravioli filling had two large hard sharp pieces of Butternut squash skin in it. By contrast two fish and chips came out perfectly cooked and was much enjoyed, as was the cheeseburger. It was a Monday lunchtime, very quiet, so quite why the kitchen had a problem with something as simple as ravioli and fresh vegetables, I don't know. I thought you would want to know. Service was cheerful and willing,

This was a very pleasant meal. Three people (out of four) had starters, I didn’t. They all enjoyed their starters. We all had beef for our main meal and we all left clear plates. We didn’t go for desserts. The service was excellent and everything was quite timely. The service staff checked on us once and this was unobtrusive and polite. The venue is very nice with large windows letting in lots of light. I think it would be quite dim after dark as there are only minimal light fittings. We were by windows where we could see the sea. It wasn’t too noisy but this is due to smaller separate dining areas. The drinks were nice, e shared a bottle of wine and chilled water was also provided. It wasn’t particularly expensive and about what I'd expect to pay in this part of the country.

Oh dear, an experience below previous. Clearly the management and staff have not really got to grips with a post-Covid world. Shown to a bare table with a menu that could be accessed online via a QR code - code took me to a very dubious place! Ordered from staff who stood well back. No masks or visors! Starter arrived and was virtually thrown at us. No cutlery. When asked, cutlery produced wrapped in a tissue. Staff passed (threw?) the cutlery and held on to the tissue! Had to ask for the bread baton which was to accompany but not suuplied. When it came it seemed to have been microwaved and was warm and soft and withut butter - not crusty! Main courses arrived - staff caught the edge of the table with the tray whilst try to stay back. Chips on the floor! Had to ask for cutlery again - two sets came wrapped in one tissue. Tore tissue in half to share. Staff brought a large tray to collect empties - placed this on a stand and stepped back asking us to place on the tray. Not an overall impressive or really welcoming experience.Now, running our own business, we are very well aware of Covid19 precautions and sanitising. Suspect that there was some lack of understanding here or of what precautions could and should be taken and therefore a lack of coherent thought and staff training. Beach House - could (and should!) do better!Oh - the starter was definitely below par but the main courses were fine.

Booked the restaurant for a Family celebration - was greeted with a hostile welcome - stand back - read the notices and no you cant eat in the restaurant We were ushered into a side room on a long table with benches very uncomfortable especially for our pregnant daughter. I went back to the hostile receptionist and said they had ruined our evening and can we move as booked into the restaurant and it was just NO. The food was very below par the staff had no PPE just left the plates at the end of the table for us to self serve .. I understand unusual times but Beach House you need to get a grip on this - It was an awful expensive evening...

Beautiful, historic surroundings for a lively, buzzing Sunday lunch crowd. We only had drinks but arriving food plates around us looked appetising and obviously appreciated by diners.

Really lovely relaxed evening spent having pre dinner drinks before going to dinner in the restaurant. Service was good and efficient. Meals were tasty and well presented. Good wine list to suit all budgets. Meals and drinks very reasonably priced and great value for money. Seasonal menu, and specials available too. Certainly able to support dietary needs and clear labels to support those choices too.

The food is good and plentiful . Our main criticism would be not enough vegetables, as sides or with main courses.

Despite our very modest requirements the service during our visit at lunchtime on the 14th Feb 20202 was exceptional. This was, possibly, the last time my husband will be well enough to eat out. The waiter was understanding and wrapped the uneaten steak pie up for us to take home, It was our 67th (and last) Valentines day together and the lovely food and very good service made this outing a pleasure. Whilst staying at The Beach house we ate in their restuarant, the food i would say is traditional and is very good, it has a varied choice catering for a variety of diets qnd normally does a specials board of local seasonal produce. On one of the two nights stay we had eaten out during the day so we just had sharing plates in front of the log fire which was lovely if you dont have a large appetite.The breakfasts here are superb.........

My wife plus 2 friends attended NYE 2019/20 and were very impressed. The food was prompt, hot and correct choices 1st time. The staff were friendly, effective and always looking to help. The cool ambience in the beach house is critical to its success, and this was maintained despite band/restaurant areas being in different rooms. Thank you for a lovely evening. Brendan Regan.

We had dinner there in the summer whilst camping and I booked a weekend away for my husbands birthday and we both loved it. Great views, nice room and amazing breakfast. Love the little room with a view of the IOW.We will definitely be back sometime

Decided to have breakfast here after reading menu on line and and previously being aware of the sea views. The Beach is a ‘dog friendly’ establishment. There are a number of areas where you can sit for your meal all which offer a nice setting for your meal. Staff are really friendly and offer a good level of service. Breakfast was really good and after we went for a walk along the sea front. If you want a real treat then Beach House is where you need to go. We are returning in the summer and will definitely visit here for a meal again.

They have a great location and setting, but what a shame about the food.I had a fish pie which was sadly lacking. It was mostly sauce, some fish but they seemed to have forgotten the potato on the top. It was accompanied by overcooked peas and was so hot I couldn't eat it for 10 minutes.All this cost £15.

The girls behind the bar were very friendly! The food was too great, could be a lot better for the location!

We booked late for a birthday lunch, and had a lovely lunch overlooking the Isle of Wight with excellent service. This is a pub, and the menu reflects that - however, the food we ordered was freshly cooked, presented well, and tasted great. Prices for what you get are reasonable, and we will definitely be back.

The menu here gives a great deal of choice, from sharing plates to the usual whitebait and prawn cocktail. There is a good choice of mains from burgers to cray fish linguine. The staff were attentive and the food we ordered came in good time. I would certainly eat here again.

Large pub with large car park and good sized garden with comfortable seating. Good sea views from the garden. Very busy so would recommend booking if you want to sit in the restaurant, however you can sit in other rooms and order at the bar from the same menu. You can also eat in the garden.We had seen rave reviews in our holiday accommodation so we were expecting something special. The Sunday roasts were nice enough but nothing special & sadly did not live up to our expectations. Friendly efficient service. Roasts arrived within minutes of ordering.

Great room,comfortable bed ***** Excellent evening meal and a hearty breakfast before a cliff top walk via the hotel gardens.... Loved it so much we have moved to a nearby village and still use the restaurant.

We had a drink here on Saturday lunchtime and brunch on Sunday. On both occasions the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. Lovely food at breakfast, tasty, fresh and good value. Lovely location and lovely weather.....so relaxing.....we will be back (again!)

Great hour or two here. Few beers (Badgers..... excellent) and wines, sarnies and a croque madame. Food was nicely presented, plentiful and served promptly with a smile. Excellent staff, both waiting and at the bar. Comfy chairs, nice homely atmosphere with sporting ambience in the old dining room. Perfect lunch.

Great place for a drink either inside or outside with the lovely views of the Island. We have eaten sandwiches here which were very nice but I note previous reviewers comments on the main meals which we have not tried.

This is an excellent establishment for both food and drinks. It has beautiful resteraunt and outside sitting area with views of the solent. Have visited this establshement on many occassions now and have never been dissapointed. The prices are comparible with other eating pubs and Inns in the area.

The Beach House is perfect for summer evenings. Some really interesting vegetarian & vegan choices, not the standard/boring sweet potato curry & med veg tart!! Staff are always friendly & the Badger beers are great too! Recommended.

We popped in for a pre- dinner drink. Friendly bar staff, a good table outside and great views. A bit quirky but all the better got that. And no fuss over the glass I knocked over .. for which thanks.

We go here for the ambience, sea views and friendliness. It’s difficult to beat in Milford on Sea in this respect. Nowhere else has the benefit of this cliff top position and grand picture hung entrance foyer.

Our first visit this year, a quiet but sunny Monday evening. The location and view are perfect for us as we have a static van nearby. A couple of very pleasant young lady servers looked after us. I started with a crab mayo dish my wife had a classic prawn cocktail. They have stopped serving the long curled sausage, replaced with very tasty apple and pork x 3..very tasty.

Had lunch here today. Nice garden area, especially in the sun looking across to the Isle of Wight and The Needles.

Lunched with friends who had been there before and wanted to see why they loved the location. Could sit for hours looking at the view of The Needles. The weather was not conducive to sitting in the garden but our window table was perfect. Staff very personable and efficient. The food was delicious and well presented without being pretentious.The whole ambience of this unique building had the effect of making us feel we were stepping back in time when stained glass windows and candelabras were the order of the day.

Stunning house, excellent menu, great views, lovely walks on the cliffs. Had such there one day and then ate there n the evening 2 evenings running. Staff attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.
