Had an amazing family lunch here. The fish and chips and the pie off the day was amazing. My daughter had the Goan curry. She was surprised as to how good it was.

We visited a pub in Ashurst recently, hoping for a nice family meal, but were left very disappointed. My wife ordered the mussels, which looked questionable from the start and had an unpleasant smell—clearly not fresh. I ordered the fish and chips, and it was a letdown. It seemed like the fish had been fried straight from frozen, resulting in an undercooked, soggy texture. My daughter had the bruschetta, which was simply a single slice of bread, not at all what we expected. Overall, the food quality was poor, and for the prices charged, it felt like a complete waste of money. I would never recommend this place and won’t be returning. I believe we deserve a refund for this terrible meal. Avoid this pub at all costs!

Unfortunately the service was non-attentive and disappointing luckily my partner and I were not in a rush, but the food made up for it. My partner had the curry was full of flavour and the chicken had a perfectly tender texture. I had the burger and it was seasoned perfectly. We went on a Friday at 20:00

We had our daughters wedding reception at the pub and it was the most amazing day. The food was delicious cooked by Richard and the kitchen team. Judy and the rest of the team worked tirelessly to make it such a special day. Thank you to everyone for your hard work. I cannot recommend this place highly enough

I’ve visited this pub 3 times in the last 2 years, each visit getting progressively worse. Food was overpriced and the pork and chorizo burger was awful, I would suggest going happy cheese at the other side of the bridge instead.

We popped in for Sunday dinner all four of us had various roast , very well presented excellent portions very tasty well cooked . We are local and very pleased to see a much improved and varied menu .👍

Nachos were expensive and really awful… the tinyest but of cheese and everything else was rubbish, the prawn sandwich was watery and the bread was stale. The park and garden are great for children. As a local it is a shame that the food was so awful. We will return but not to eat. It was a complete waste of money.

Lovely location. Food is terrible and over priced. The children ordered two children's roasts - the Yorkshire was burnt, the chicken was beyond dry. Potatoes rock hard. Such a shame when the pub itself is in a lovely place. You must improve.

Upgraded comfy garden furniture made a welcome appearance since our last annual visit for lunch. Given the mixed reviews I wasn't expecting a great however the garden is the draw for lunch with two other ladies. We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of food and service. Our (heavy for arthritic hands) tray of drinks was kindly taken out to our table while we chose our preferences from the main menu. Two of the Goan madras curries were ordered, one with chips and the other with rice. Maggi asked for the prawn cocktail starter as her 'main' and all three choices came together as requested. The curries were spicy hot, it is labelled correctly as Madras heat, and extremely tasty including the charred whole red chilli. The prawn cocktail was a generous starter size, and was followed by a pavlova style desert which looked very rich. The staff were attentive and checked back several times if everything was good. It may be worth asking beforehand, as I did at the bar, what items are not available as amongst other items the Thai curry and the Key Lime tart were unavailable that Monday. There is plenty of outdoor seating sheltered under cover, open air with parasols or picnic style tables further out in the free range garden area ! Understandably, with direct access to the car park and forestry land over a stile, they do not run tabs for outside tables. We have eaten inside in the past within a stylish conservatory. Overall we had a very enjoyable visit (especially my curry and chips). These days I don't think the pricing is unreasonable given it's location.

Turned up at 8pm for the England v Netherlands game with 5 friends, having travelled back from London. On arrival the pub was busy but not packed. We asked about ordering food, and were told in no uncertain terms 'no food!' There were tables that had clearly eaten recently. Obviously very disappointed but we stayed to watch the football, buying approx 18 drinks between us before leaving after the game. Surely on what I assume is a good number of people in the pub, even if you'd done bowls of chips or simple burgers you could have made a decent amount of money?? Good atmosphere in the pub, but the staff need to learn how to smile! Won't be rushing back.

What a great find! I have a cancellation of my train and stopped in this place for a beer really but then decided to have some nibble and ended up having 2 starters and a main Beautifully cooked and presented and very different cuisine range as quite exciting Served by very efficient staff and particularly one lady behind the bar called Imuggen (hopefully I got it right as was not Imogen as the normal spelling of it) Good and impressive all the way!!! Thank you for the lovely service and good food Curry really spicy and definitely my cup of tea Will be back for more

I had dinner here with friends one evening. The service was prompt & the food was tasty. It is a bit pricy, but you get good portions. They are excellent with disabled access & have a ramp to get down the stairs if required. I'm in 2 minds about their allergen menu. It's great that they have one, but I had to log into it on my phone. I had no 4g inside so had to input my details to log into the pub's WiFi before I could find it. This took about 5 minutes, which I thought was a bit excessive.

Overpriced.... Call it what you like,its still a glorified sausage sandwich in a stale doughy un-toasted chiabatta.(£10),1 garlic mushroom,dry and lost on the plate £6. The few chips were decent and the staff. The food quality ,a massive let down.

I had not been to the New Forest for some time, and it had definitely gone down hill. We chose to go to the restaurant for table service, but still ended up going to the bar to order food, and also to pay at the end. The food was very dry, and some tender stem broccoli was the opposite and very chewy! There was vinegar on the table and we noticed that there was a fly in it. The staff were very pleasant but rather scruffy, it was difficult to work out who the staff were, I am surprised that a company like Fullers don't have some sort of uniform.

45 minutes after ordering we queried the delay apparently the kitchen were overwhelmed,as this is a bank holiday weekend i would expect the staffing level to be sufficient to cope. When the food finally arrived we were very disappointed the price of the food was extortionate given the quality.

No doubt that this is a good pub for families with kids play area and the food is good. However, waited over an hour for food after ordering and drinks after 30 minutes. Clearly under staffed (2 front of house) and whilst staff did apologise, the children were getting hungry as were the adults.

Arrive sans Doute un peu tard pour l’Angleterre (20h15) notre commande est prise en dernier.. bières chaudes, plutôt que les changer on nous apporte des glaçons. Nourriture fade, peu quantitative et peu qualitative… repas qui évite l’hypoglycémie mais aucun plaisir !

Lovely evening meal, wonderful food and great service. Beautiful setting and decor good choice of gins lovely place for a group of friends to met up and have a great time restaurant was well spaced out with tables so felt you could relax and have a giggle without effecting other dinners

Thanks to all the staff at The New Forest Hotel in Ashurst for a lovely meal and for looking after us so well. You made our father's day outing a real treat. Dad really enjoyed it!!

My wife ordered the caremalised onion with goats cheese tart with a side of chips and I ordered the linguine. Both meals were served almost cold, the tart was only a flat piece of pasty about the size of playing card with a bit of cheese and onion on top and the pasta was mostly broccoli , bits of sweet potato and a few cashew nuts, all of which was almost tasteless. The staff did refund the cost of the tart after our complaint but the only decent part of our meal were the chips. Extremely bad value for money and having eaten here several times in the last 12 months, we will not be returning.

I’m sat on the fence with this review. It’s a nice pub, lovely decor and the food is of a good standard. But it’s clear it’s another factory pub though purely driven by food sales and how many covers they can get in a pub. Staff were slightly inexperienced but very nice. With COVID now it’s all about a 2hr slot which has kinda ruins the going down the pub. The happy cheese just next door over the railway will let you stay as long as you need without chasing you away which we found much more preferable especially for camping.

Meet a friend for lunch after the Lockdown easing of eating and meeting outside.Yes, the weather was not great and it was a little chilly.However the meal was spot on, I had the lasagna and I would thoroughly recommend it. The staff were attentive and the table ordering system was easy to use. They also made a real fuss of our three dogs.We will be back.

Yesterday I travelled to Hampshire with my elderly parents to see my son for the first time in 15months . We had booked a table and five mins after arrival the heavens opened to a deluge of rain. This led to the decision to understandably closing the kitchen however after hearing our journey the chef agreed to cook our meal which was lovely and enabled us to eat together as a family for the first time in ages. Thank you to all those who helped and will definitely visit again.

A really large pub , (serving Fullers beers) and garden, ( with great climbing frame for kids) which can be booked in advance. Covid protocols strictly observed by staff. Usual faff trying to order from the app but eventually got there. Incredibly strict house rules for Allergens. Apparently, they wipe down part of the kitchen , when they get a gluten free order. Unfortunately, that slows everything down and it was a full hour from entering til we got our food. The Sunday roasts looked really brill. My scampi was so-so! I would certainly go back

Great service and lovely team. Came for a birthday lunch and they made me feel very special and looked after us well. Quiet but still had a lovely atmosphere.

The food was fantastic, but lacking in personal service as you are made to order via the app- not a problem if you can operate a smart phone but I know many that wouldn’t be able to do this. Friendly staff throughout the visit.Will prob come back when everything is back to normal and we can stay for the full evening as we did feel slightly rushed at the end of our meal.

Unplanned lunchtime visit. Warmly greeted by staff and good covid awareness ensuring app QR scanned etc. We used the pub app to order from table. Very efficient and quick.We both had a light lunch option of scampi and chips and sausage and mash. We felt very safe with the procedures in place, due to COVID.We had a drink and lunch, order via the APP and the food was very good and the drinks were cold. Whilst staying in the New Forest for a long weekend we chose The New Forest at Ashurst for our Sunday meal, based solely on the fact the website was offering Sunday Roasts up until 8 pm and the reviews were mostly positive.As we do not live in the area we wanted to spend as much time as possible visiting local places before eating so pre-booked a table for 5 people at 5pm. After checking in with the QR code for Track & Trace and being shown the sanitiser we were pointed to a table. After 5 minutes we noticed the sign on the table asking us to download the food and drinks menu onto a phone, which wasn’t a problem, but it would have been nice if that had been pointed out to us.We ordered 5 x roasts, noticing that at least one type was already sold out, but when we tried to checkout we got an error. On starting again, we discovered all the roasts were sold out. Very disappointed but we re-ordered other meals. Again we got an error and this time a chicken dish we had chosen was sold out. Third time lucky we managed to order burgers and lasagne. Not quite the Sunday roast we were looking forward to but basic pub food we could have got anywhere. None of the dishes were particularly hot, just warm. In normal circumstances we probably would have gone elsewhere but you need to pre-book in most places now so we stayed put.If you are going to advertise food and especially Sunday Roasts until 8pm at night then you need to make sure you have enough supplies in to provide the food. We were there 3 hours before food was stopped serving. I understand Covid-19 has changed life for us all but if you are not going to have enough food in to last the serving hours then you should change the times on your website or put a notice on to say Sunday Roasts and other food is likely to sell out early. There is actually less excuse nowadays as people are encouraged to book tables in advance so you know how many covers you are likely to have (although obviously not what they are going to choose to eat!). The pub did not seem that busy whilst we were there but again this might be due to Covid.There was no interaction from the lady who booked us in to explain how to order food and drinks (or even to check if we had a smart phone between us). However, the waiters/waitresses who bought us our food and drinks were polite, although one of them did bring over a bottle of wine that we had not ordered because a previous order on our table had not been ripped up! Covid measures were in place and perfectly acceptable.This experience was in stark contrast to the meal we had at the Cartwheel, near Fordingbridge, on Friday night which we cannot review highly enough.

We visited the pub at the weekend, they had good COVID measures in place with distancing being enforced, several sanitiser stations, and table/phone ordering in place. We were advised to chose our own table in the garden which was great. The garden is great for a sunny day and although we didn’t have kids with us it would have been brilliant for them too. Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful and were working hard to keep up with how busy it was. The bit that let it down for us was the food. We ordered a Greek sharing platter for £15 and was very disappointed with what was served. There was one skewer of halloumi, one round flat bread, a very small pile of olives, chopped peppers, and a dollop of tzatziki. It really wasn’t a sharing platter at all and for that price I would have expected more. We ordered chips on the side and they came slightly warm and soft. Overall it was a lovely day but let down by the food. However I would try again to see if it was a one off because the atmosphere and setting there was really nice.

Our son has a brain injury and is autistic and we are very limited in the places we can go and there are very few welcoming places in the area. We arrived yesterday for the first time probably this year due to COVID and we were instantly recognised by the manager which really surprised us! She then asked us if we would like our usual table (a quieter table tucked away for our son). I cannot begin to explain how much little things like this mean to us! You made him feel comfortable and us feel relaxed and welcome from the moment we walked through the door! This is rare to find when usually we get funny looks or are made to feel like he’s too noisy or unwelcome so THANK YOU! Also the food was lovely, service was friendly as always and the measures you have put in place for covid are excellent. We will back again soon :)
