Stopped off on the way back from Polesden Lacey to London. Ate two roast chicken baps with 2 pint sized soft drinks. Absolute bargain lunch at 19 quid for the lot - especially as portion size was ginormous and the chicken was excellent quality! Landlady was on her own and super busy but incredibly friendly and welcoming. Service was excellent.

What a great find. Staff were very welcoming. The Sunday Roast was excellent, good quality ingredients and beautifully cooked. A good sized portion for £16 a head. Definitely value for money. A good traditional village pub with great value tasty food. My daughter and I opted for the 4 for £25 bar nibbles ( which were much more than nibbles!) of spicy chicken wings, white bait, scampi bites and pigs in blankets. We paid the £2.50 extra for chunky chips and a side salad with dressing. The staff were very helpful and chatty. Children are now welcomed and there was use of a high chair for my grand daughter. It was a bit quiet but it is a cosy little pub.

A great village pub with friendly staff and regulars. The outside space is superb on a sunny day, come with friends or come on your own and you will be made to feel very welcome. The best pub in Bookham! Edit 2024: Change of ownership and change of direction for this pub, moving to a more foody pub during the day. Weekday foods okay at the moment, assume they are just finding their feet. The Sunday Roast however....is the best in the area. The whole roast in a giant Yorkie covers all bases and deserves the upgrade to 4 stars 🤩

I’ve been drinking in here regularly since moving to the area last year; every Friday I pop in. Today I went in at 230pm with my daughter and was told “we don’t usually cater for children.” So we had to go. Fair enough; be traditional. Yet this pub served me and my wife last year when we took our daughter in so - in line with being traditional - maybe be consistent too. An afternoon Sunday pint in the corner whilst my daughter has a coke is not going to ruin the atmosphere of your pub. Time to look for a new venue to for a post-work-pint.

The meat raffle is drawn on Sundays at 3pm. When I visited later in the day, the blackboard displaying the names and ticket numbers of the winners was displayed in the narrow gap between the top of the enormous inglenook fireplace and the ceiling. There were several winners--I think 10 or 12. The numbers of the tickets showed that a lot of tickets had been sold. A fire was burning sweetly in the grate. The glowing embers were pumping out heat, and a new log was singing on top. The ventilation could be improved. A row of Toby jugs were hanging horizontally from hooks along the beam above the fire, ignominiously displaying their bottoms. The golfing memorabilia has gone. I could cry.

Very disappointed. Came for lunch here yesterday after having booked a table for six several weeks ago. Admittedly, we arrived about five/ten minutes late but were told that several items on the menu had already finished and the remaining menu had very few choices in any case. The food was OK but certainly did not have that "home cooked" taste. In fact, the fish and chips were quite tasteless. Also, the lady came and took our plates away without asking if we wanted any pudding. So, a little later, when we went up to the bar to order puddings we were told that the kitchen was now closed!! If we had known that was going the be the case, we would have ordered with our main courses. What a shame as the occasion was a rare get-together for a group of retired NHS staff. We will not be having a meal there in future.

Quite a few elderly people there which was nice as it was fairly quiet. No loud youths. Ordered a pint of coke with fish and chips. Came to approx £12. The fish was around £9 so around £3 for a pint of coke is very expensive in my opinion. The food was very nice, can’t complain at all. Lovely crispy fish and crispy chips. I love this pub and have been going to it since I used to bunk off from a school in the 6th form. Now considerably older (+25yrs on from those days) I still love the old world charm, the roaring fire, the old fixtures and fittings. You can easily imagine having ridden or walked here at least 100years ago. As well as keeping the historical charm its probably saved the tennants/brewery a few quid as well, as the toilets and tables are certainly what were around in my school days.

We went for 'Breakfast with Santa." It was absolutely perfect. We had told the staff that we were unsure of how our 2 year old granddaughter might respond to Santa. The pub was decorated beautifully and they found us a table where she could observe from a distance. They provided us with little Christmas craft activities whilst we waited for our breakfasts. When our granddaughter felt brave enough to approach Santa, he was brilliant with her! He took her cues and met her exactly where she needed to be. We can't speak highly enough of the warmth, helpfulness and efficiency of the staff. This is a true family pub and we couldn't have wished for a better place for our granddaughter's first meeting with Father Christmas. Thank you, The Woodman and merry Christmas!
