Was told to sit outside and would come back to take our food order ..Never did but took everybody else's order & when we had had enough and just paid for the drinks we had he never even recognised us to apologise....Terrible service 😡

The coffee was strong and cold. I asked for a half strength which it was not. The side salad with the cheese on toast was brown lettuce and when I asked for this to be removed from the bill they said it was complimentary. And therefore would not discount the meal. It said the cheese on toast came with a side salad. The manager said only one piece was brown so didn't understand why I was complaining. All the edges of the lettuce were brown. It was unacceptable to serve old lettuce. The staff were not very friendly. I will not be visiting this cafe again.

Good honest food with great service.

Nice place to go and sit outside if the weather is nice and you need a break in between shopping. The daily specials, judging by my companion's meal are worth trying. The inside is OK. My bill was wrong when compared to the menu, but it was quickly sorted

Great community cafe with good choice of food and hot/cold drinks. We sat outside in the sunshine and shared a pot of tea with 2 scones, jam & clotted cream. The waitress was very helpful and the prices were reasonable.

Very popular eating/meeting place. Friendly table service with all day breakfast served. Dog friendly too. Good home cooking and good cake selection eat in or takeaway.

Amazing. I took my daughter here last Sunday for breakfast. The place was really busy but they found us a table and the lady that looked after us was really friendly and welcoming. My daughter had the all day breakfast and it was an amazing generously portioned amount of food. I had the bacon sandwich which was one of the best I've had. Can't rate the staff, restaurant and the food highly enough. We will certainly go back again. Thank you

Drove a few miles out of our way and pay for parking to get an all day breakfast. Got there at 4.15pm and walked in, but I guess they decided they'd make up their own hours and told us they were done for the day. Not good business.

We’ve been here a few times and enjoyed it. Popped in on Sunday, around 2.30pm, took a seat and we were completely ignored whilst trying to order. The waitress wandered off then came back and started cleaning tables around us despite us trying to catch her eye. We waited 10 min (felt like longer) then overheard the lady in the kitchen tell the waitress not to take any more food orders. We couldn’t see any signs saying food was only served between certain times (we assumed a cafe served all day?) We got up and left, walked down the high street and found another lovely cafe. Won’t be returning for a while unfortunately.

The coffee cups vary in size. Depending on who serves you, the coffee can be disgusting. Matt makes the worst coffee and charges the same price

£9.99 for handful pasta with cheese from microwave with old salad? Seriously? Dreadful interior in the middle of Dorking shopping centre …probably builder’s coffee shops looks better and serves better food for reasonable prices… Have to admit Chai latte was perfect, which could add half star to the food ratings, but unfortunately can’t add half star. Not surprised that peak time was half empty restaurant .

The food was good but the two older ladies at the cashier were rude, one of them scoffed at my friend for wanting a fork with his food which was weird

Unfortunately a disappointing experience it was so cold as door was open but thankfully had coats on so thought we are only having a quick bite too eat we would cope with it and we ordered hot chocolate too warm ourselves up we ordered smashed avocado on toast with fried eggs when it arrived the avocado was guacamole and it was frozen sent it back and then it was returned with the same toast one cold egg and one hot egg and guacamole defrosted but all a bit yuck too be honest 😟

Unpretentious and friendly community cafe. Does a range of homemade cakes that tasted great.

Busy, friendly and efficient. This is the best place for lunch in Dorking and if there are no frills, there are no disappointments either. Local produce adds to the menu and the specials and the staff try their best to best flexible with preferences. Matt, the owner, expects top class service from his staff and he gets it. The shortbread bakewell is great. I also like the ham, egg and chips. But there are always surprises on the specials board.

Very warm and welcoming. Reasonable prices. Good food. What more could you want from a cafe.

Me and 2 guests was enjoying a catch up food and drinks having a lovely time nice food and coffe but unfortunately a group of regulars came in even though a bigger table was available for they they sat next to us and invaded our table for there coffes and waking my baby up really disappointed the staff didnt ask them not to use our table they pushed us out the door leaving before we was ready too i know its not the cafe fault for there poor behaviour but they should od stepped in!! Popped in to grab take away panini. Not from the area and it looks nice on the outside. The man cooking was very angry and flustered. When they took our order, he said are you joking another food order? And then he shouted it will be 20mins. We were in a rush and we didn’t want to stick around after his attitude so we said we would leave it. He then started complaining about us and said they are not a Starbucks. The waitress looked mortified and apologised. I agree, it definitely isn’t any where near a Starbucks. The coffee was good so if your looking for a quick take away coffee, this should be ok. We ended up going a short walk down the alley to a lovely little place called Chimes. They did our paninis in 5mins.

Tastiest coffee I’ve tried in Dorking by a long shot! And so much cheaper than the chains! Staff are always so friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to make you feel at home. So grateful for this business and their kind staff 😊

Stopped in for ice coffee which was refreshing and good quality. Danish pastry was crisp and freshly made as was the ham and cheese croissant.

Dropped car off at Station View Garage, popped in for a Mug of Tea, and a Teacake, friendly staff, and also got talking to some dear old lady who was very chatty, also a dog friendly café.

Popped in for a late lunch, menu outside enticed us in but what we got was ok, at best. Found the gentleman there very abrupt, with an awful manner. Asking one lady who arrived with her son 'what do you want?'. Understand this is an obvious question when someone needs to place an order but the manner in which it was delivered was poor. Wasn't the only time I saw and heard him address people like that. The food was ok, but not worth the wait, over 20 mins, is excessive. Wouldn't rush back and will try other places in Dorking, which I wish we had in the first instance to be honest

They do a great job with decent, affordable meals. You can sit inside or outside. The service is efficient and the food good. It is not a fancy place and doesn't try to be but they are friendly and welcoming. We have consistently had good meals whether it is a sandwich, jacket potato or breakfast.

Popped in for a coffee with a friend. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good coffee at a reasonable price. Didn't eat there but the food being served looked very tasty and so did the pastries. They accept card payment, which is great as never have cash on me now. There is outside seating which in less wet weather would be a nice place to sit for food and/drink.

Popped in for a coffee and catch up with friends but stayed for Lunch. It was lovely very helpful staff, warm and welcoming.

My children loved the jacket potato and the brownies were “amazing”. A quick and easy place to grab lunch with the kids, friendly and attentive service. They requested I give the place infinity stars.

Staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Nice seating area and my daughter said the vegetarian sausages are the best!

Never again. Sat outside for a coffee with a friend. After we finished we went inside to pay as nobody was coming outside. At the till the lady seemed to have made up a total at random as for a bill around £4 she made us pay over £5.50 and when I questioned with the price list in hand she said it was a large americano (which it wasn’t, as when asked, my friend explicitly said a medium/regular) when I stated we ordered a medium another guy pulled up his shoulders like saying ‘who cares what you ordered. This is what you’ll pay for’ Horrible example of a con artist. Beware and check your bills before leaving. Also thank goodness we didn’t order food as the place inside stank . Yuk . As said, never Ever we’ll go back to this place again. 🤮

Has been around for some years and continues to provide good service and quality in a convenient town setting.

We asked for a table outside and they were reluctant to put them out as it was cold. When I explained that we wished not be near so many people the reply was rude the drink was cold and tasteless and took a while to be brought to us. Will not be going again.

Went with family today Highchairs were filthy, so much so I kept my son in the pram to feed him. Doesn’t bode well for cleanliness of cafe itself… Ordered bacon, Brie and cranberry panini, bacon was very underdone, chewy and fatty, so disappointing. Husband ordered full english, bacon same as above, given half a mushroom and ketchup was foul basically red vinegar My mum ordered a chicken pesto sandwich on granary bread and got given a panini instead. Salad was well past it’s best and dressing was basically just vinegar. Ordered two pots of tea and just given one. Nobody came back to check our food was ok. Left without getting any cake and won’t be back. Unsure why it’s so highly rated as I thought it was all round pretty grim

Menu prices different from charged amount. Charged more than £4.50 extra on what it should have been. Food cold and served on what looked like a ceramic tile. Not worth it. Won't be going there again.

Me and my sister went down for some breakfast and was impressed with the bread selection at the front but after waiting 30 mins for a bacon sandwich and a egg sandwich watch the owner the only one working at the time on his phone in and out of the shop we received two cold sandwich on so cheap bread not worth the money at all it's sad because I used you go all the time before lockdown and a young girl called lily was amazing! Too bad the owner doesn't have the same drive as she did 😐

Lovely food but outside tables were small for a group and chairs were uncomfortable . In this time of mixing outdoors please supply blankets x

I went here with my family and it was a highly enjoyable meal with lovely staff. The food was tasty and good quality ,which of course is the key to a great eatery, yet it had an added bonus of a relaxed atmosphere in a convenient location. Overall, Burgundy and black is a great cafe full stop

What a delightful spot. Helpful service and a very very tasty breakfast. The Dorking sausage was cooked well and was full of flavour, should serve two. A very hot plate with good quality bacon and the largest most tasty mushroom.Free WiFi makes this a place I will come back to for sure, plus a well nice cappuccino.

Had lunch here today with our two year old granddaughter . Really Covid clean , tables are cleaned after every customer . Lovely food and great coffee ! Don't go to a chain like Costa or Starbucks , come here and support local business xxxx

Prices were great but even though I was sat with a 4Y/O family member we didn't receive a kids menu so she didn't have a good visual to pick from but we enquired if the sandwich comes in a kids type size and it did , I ordered a tuna melt Panini my other family members did too but mine had far too much mayo dripping out the sides and it was a little cold with the cheese not melted but it was still yummy but a lil sad that their cheesy panini's looked yummier then mine again not complaining as food was lovely chips were amazing panini overall was ok the service was good and quick and friendly and they let us split the bill easily , the pricing is very good too it's a lovely lunch spot in summer 😊

All 4 of us left most of our breakfasts, and there was no care from the staff about the fact that we hadn't eaten it. £7 for 1 (tiny) piece of smoked salmon on (what tasted like powdered) scrambled eggs is outrageous. As is charging an additional £1 when I requested the egg with my breakfast to be scrambled not fried! Wont be returning.

Dirty glass for my cold drink. “Tomato soup” apparently - was actually more like an onion water concoction. Goods for sale at the back covered in a fine layer of grease with dust. Cheap. But nasty.

I like to support the independent coffee shops when I can and this is definately one of the best, in a town that seems to be dominated by them. The staff are friendly and helpful and the coffee really good. There isn;t an awful lot of gluten free offerings but what they do have is excellent value for momey and very high quality - the brownies are to die for.

It was okay with reasonable portions though the quality wasn’t quite there for me the staff were friendly and engaging but with plenty of competition around would try other places before going back.

First time going to Burgundy and Blacks as we generally go to The Dorking Deli...and it'll be the last! Awful coffee and the food is little better. Service followed the example set by the food and coffee. Very rude and abrupt. Don't bother!

I do like this place, informal, clean, pleasant, delicious food and reasonable too. No pretensions either, whilst it isn't a greasy spoon it does sell good food and my sausage sandwich and coffee was delicious. My two children equally devoured their sausage sandwich and bacon sandwich with equal gusto.Definitely worth a visit..........

Great cafe , friendly staff and nice food. Highly recommend the gluten free chocolate mint brownies - absolutely delicious. Good for cyclists with plenty of room outside for the bikes and in sight..

I visited Burgundy & Black in Dorking with my parents (who go there at least once a week). We sat at one of the outside tables, which was very pleasant. The coffee was delicious and the danish pastries were hot, having just come out of the oven. Matt and William were, as usual, very welcoming and always make time to stop chat. William has been known to help my Mum to her seat if he isn’t too busy - if he spots her coming up the road as she does have problems with mobility. It’s the little touches that make such a difference. Highly recommended !

Excellent service excellent staff

Stopped here to pick up three takeaway coffees en route home and the coffee was undrinkable. It tasted like the beans had been burnt. We count ourselves fortunate that we will not likely return, but for others seeking a pleasant coffee, perhaps avoid this establishment.

Attentive staff. Good service, good food and very reasonably priced.
