The food was good and the service - BUT the toilets were dirty - not just the sanitary ware but there were cobwebs at all levels and one of pans leaked water all over the floor so trousers had to be rolled up to avoid getting them wet! The tables in the restaurant could also have done with a wipe down and the carpet didn't look as it had been hoovered in a while. Would suggest getting a cleaner and then more people would return. I'm afraid we won't be, for a while at least.

First time visit to this pub, but won't be the last - it was excellent in every respect. Very warm welcome from the young lady behind the bar, who looked after us during our stay. Well kept beers and a good menu selection at reasonable prices. Food quality was very good and generous in portion size. It's clear that a lot of investment has been recently put into making this a really nice, comfortable pub - both inside and in the garden to the rear. Already looking forward to a return visit.

Really lovely meal here with great staff and feeling very welcoming. Such a shame some locals had their dogs there barking incessantly and didn’t bother taking them outside. Really ruined a lovely lunch and was not the pubs fault. Certainly give this place a try.

In all my years of visiting pubs in the UK, I have never experienced such disinterested, unfriendly and unhelpful service as in this pub. We had booked a table, but the bored-looking girl in childish plaits at the bar didn't believe us, saying she didn't have any bookings that day, and accusing us of mistakenly booking the other pub a few yards away. We ordered food and drinks. I chose a ham & cheese toastie, and politely asked if I could have some onion in it. Madam at the bar turned to a very scruffy-looking man (presumably the chef??) slouching at a table, and asked "Is that OK?" He sulkily turned his back and gave a slight nod. I said "He doesn't look very happy about it", whereupon Madam smirks "Well he said it's OK ..."! Having sat down again, we decided we didn't like their attitude, so cancelled our order and went to the nearby Grumpy Mole, which was fantastic, and (unlike the Royal Oak) buzzing with life and a wonderful welcome.

Unwelcoming and unfriendly. They took a booking for 12.00 midday but when we arrived we were told aggressively that they "weren't cooking until 2.00"! Best bit? They told us to go to the Grumpy Mole next door. We did and they were charming and the food was delicious.

Pub very well presented cleen and tidy and the one member of staff was very polite and helpful. Ordered food and drink from a limited menu for three adults and three children. My friend was served a ham salad with very poor quality ham . And after a 30 minute wait I was served my steak pie with gravy . 1. No gravy. 2. The appearance was very poor quality . The " pie " was served in a meatal tin with a single slice of pastry on top. 3. The gravy in the " pie " was extremely watery . 4. The mash potato served with the " pie " was robbery and dry. 5. We chose to sit in the garden witch was clean and tidy but muddy and had a lovely vuie of the rubbish and scrap from the pub. If you just want a drink with your friends then it would be fine but DO NOT eat there.

We were a party of three who sat in the rear garden on a very quiet Wednesday lunchtime, and were served by a young waitress who will shortly be taking up a university place; if she is ever available for work at the Royal Oak again, we can recommend that she be hired, as her friendliness and general level service indicated to us that she would be an asset to the place. Our food was delicious,( the chips were especially good ) and we left feeling well fed and welcomed. If a table in the front of the pub had been available we would have had an excellent view of Brockham; I would gladly eat there again.

We came to have lunch on my Son’s birthday. We had visited the pub in pre COVID times and enjoyed the food and the service . Today We were the only customers on the premises so no atmosphere . We were given only a very basic menu and told that was the only one available , we ordered the food , hamburger, veggie burger and cheese panini it left a lot to be desired .. There was a man (maybe the landlord ?) constantly walking back and fore past our table going outside with garden furniture ...... totally annoying and disturbing , no apology was made . These people don’t deserve to be in business ..... the whole place was SO unwelcoming .

The young staff were nice and polite, and the pub seemed COVID-19 Compliant, but the older manager was rather brusque. Service was slow. Loud ‘biker’ ie heavy rock style music was playing which I’m sure reflected the taste of the manager rather than their clientele. Offputting. Food (bar snackmenu only) was served from a polystyrene box and was not appetising at all. Damp fries and tasteless breadcrumbed fish. I wouldn’t eat here again, but the beer was fine.

Had a lovely evening sitting and chatting, ended up staying a few hours. 2nd visit: brought the mother in law, grown up kids in the Christmas week, and played board games and spent a couple of hours there. The pub staff are fabulous, they have made us feel really welcomed. We have spoken to the Landlord Tim on both occassions and was telling us his background. This pub is definately in safe hands and we will make this a pub as one of our favourites. We will be back very soon and we will eat next time. Have eaten here 3 times in last couple of weeks, and each time we have enjoyed a good meal. I must mention that the chef makes a proper homemade pie, shortcrust pastry and you get a very large slice of it. Last night it was steak and guiness, think it changes daily. Several of the puddings were also homemade, I had apple and blackberry pie with custard. You can sit either in the bar area or restaurant section. Rear garden needs improving to make it more welcoming, but that's about it for suggestions.

I visited on Sunday the week before last but unfortunately have been too busy to write a review. I had stopped in whilst on a walk with friends for a few rounds. We weren’t planning on eating and this seemed to be a good thing, the bar was full of customers and there was only one barmaid. She was trying her hardest to serve everyone as efficiently as possible and making sure that she served us customers in the ‘first come first serve’ order as she should. She did seem very young however she knew what she was doing. There was no other staff members in sight until the chef came out of the kitchen saying she needed to serve food. The poor girl couldn’t be in two places at once. When buying what was probably my groups third round I saw that there were actually two other staff members working with her. Clearly they had picked a bad time to take a break.

Two stars more reflecting our disappointment more than anything quality related. Had a great lunch here on a previous walk and consciously set out on a long hike to get to The Royal Oak at half-way. All going to plan, lovely day and pub had "Food served all day" board outside and menus in the bar but as we ordered our drinks there followed a slightly awkward moment when it became clear food wasn't an option. A large party was due in about 10-15 mins and we were fairly bluntly told that two burgers was beyond the capacity of the chef so we had to move on.

Choice of two pubs in village so chose this one as the other is a chain (Grumpy Mole). Nice welcome but it seems the young lady serving was quite new and got flustered trying to work out the change. Seems the ladies toilets are in the process of being refurbished but the carpet could do with replacing - old, faded and a bit sticky. Sat in garden as weather was so nice - this is a wasted asset, would be so much nicer if the grass was cut, the tables painted with woodstain and some tubs of flowers but appreciate how little free time there is when running a pub. A good village pub however.

We are limited to a choice in Brockham, for somewhere to have a few drinks or a hearty meal. The Royal Oak fits that bill quite nicely. Is situated on Brockham Green with a nice outlook onto the varied architecture of the village. Has a good selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and the option of Guinness, with some good bottled beers. A good wine list and with summer coming up a good selection of gins (some locally distilled). The menu changes to suit the seasons and the food is very good value for money. They appear to have a very good kitchen staff. Just one thing, if you want to eat Sundays is a good idea to book a table, especially if the weather is good.

The new owner Richard is charming, courteous and obviously has much experience in keeping good beer and cellar craft. The manager Jacqui greets us with a cheery smile and is always warm and welcoming without ever being obtrusive. And they obviously have a new chef as the food has improved massively over the last few months. Great portion sizes, value for money, interesting menu choices and daily specials. Originally was going to the Grumpy Mole but there was no signs of life although gone 11;00 am, so decided to try the Royal Oak whick looks lovely and has a nice view of the green and village. We were told there was no food serving until noon so we walked around the village to help whet the appetite. It was clear that it had recently been taken over judging by various comments by the staff. It is a lovely pub on the inside though the garden needs a lot doing to it to make it more appealing. Staff were friendly and we didn't have to wait too long to be served, the presentation was good and the portions adequate if a little over-priced. The menu has changed since we went in early July, and looking at some comments on here since then it may be going through teething problems, but it is a nice watering hole with a lovely aspect and we may give it another visit...

My husband and I had Sunday Lunch in Brockham today. I googled the menu beforehand and found a dish that I liked. When we arrived there was a notice outside saying that there was a new menu. I complained to Jackie the manager that my dish wasn't on the menu. Jackie was very pleasant, apologised and offered us a free drink. My husband really enjoyed his food but I made the wrong choice and complained again to Jackie. Again she was very pleasant and offered us both free desserts. Whilst waiting for the desserts I wondered if I'd googled the menu for the right pub, went outside to check the name and found that I'd googled the menu for the wrong pub! Hugely embarrassed I confessed to Jackie thinking she might be annoyed and charge for the drinks and desserts but she didn't, she laughed and said we could still have the freebies! In the end we all had a good laugh and my husband and I had a really good time, huge thanks to Jackie. We highly recommend The Royal Oak and will be back!

Pub lunch for my wife and kids on Mothers Day. Part of the TWS group and under new ownership, very busy but you kind of expect that on Mothers Day. Food not as special as I've come to expect from TWS but ok and I enjoyed the local ale brewed at the Royal Oak in Holmbury. Probably better to visit on a quieter day and with a normal full menu rather than a Mothers Day special menu and it was clear they were struggling with the number of covers booked for the same time, which is TWS's failing in setting it up like that. Super location for a wander around the village of Brockham as well.

Just had lunch at the Royal Oak in Brockham today. The food and service was great. Nothing was too much trouble especially as we can be very demanding with our requirements. We were looked after by Gary and we send him very special thanks and best wishes. He was really welcoming and helpful. We will be returning next weekend.

Visit irregularly but always a good welcome. Last visit, left a treasured scarf behind. It was no trouble to them, and is now back in my care. A place to enjoy.

My husband and I stayed nearby for the weekend. We were after a relaxed friendly atmosphere and we definitely found that in this pub. We had food & drinks Fri & Sat nights, & the roast lunch on Sunday. Very friendly and helpful managers Gary & Susan have been working hard the past 5 weeks to improve everything here.

The new managers are doing a great job of running the Oak. I always prefer to see a couple in charge, rather than very young adults. The young chef trained under Tony Tobin. There is a new menu, everything from Sunday lunches, beef cheeks, and about seven different burgers. I only wanted a light bite so ordered salmon fish cakes and sweet potato fries and hubby had the chilli burger, both were extremely good. Lovely view over Brockham green and the church.

We came here by chance after hike in Box Hill. Pub has really nice atmosphere and very interesting selection of dishes. The choice of burgers is wider than in special burger restaurants. I was really tempted by the Tuna Melt burger, my friend - French (with melted camembert and caramelised onions). Portions were huge, everything was very fresh, service was really nice. We massively enjoyed it and will definitely come back if in the area.

We visited here on Sunday for lunch. It was a beautiful Sunny Day for November & just warm enough to sit outside the pub in coats. What a treat! We ordered 4 Sunday Roasts, 2 Crispy Pork Belly & 2 Roast Beef. Our table number instructed us to collect cutlery & sauces from the station inside. It became apparent after a confusing exchange with staff that this was out of date. But, it was the food that was such a let down. Roast potatoes under cooked, with black bruises and possibly deep fried not roasted. The veg was OK. The crispy pork belly was not crispy, it had not been cooked for long enough and was flabby with the top pan fried / grilled for colour. Yuck. The beef was so bad we were not sure it was beef. Pan fried Gravy.......yeah, Bisto's best. Apple sauce from a Coleman's jar, really? How hard is to make apple sauce? It wasn't overly expensive at around £14 ish, but I'd rather pay more for real food. Nice spot for a drink.....I wouldn't eat here again. It was a family occasion that had been spoiled enough already so we didn't speak to the venue whilst there but it felt like a rip off having to pay for it.

When we visited the pub, being very pleasant in the past, we most definitely will not be returning. My guest ordered the soup which came and was more like badly flavoured water than a wholesome soup which is what you'd expect in a country pub. I ordered the crayfish cocktail, a dish you'd expect to be packed with flavour and rich with sauce, it came and was dry past the first small layer then I was left with watery lettuce.

Very well organised and planned evening last night. The manageress and her team should be very proud of themselves. We had a sensational evening there. We are regulars at this pub but had not been to this event before. The £10 pre ticket entry was well worth it and the right thing to do. Great food, great vibe there last night and would 100% get a ticket for next year. Well done Team Royal Oak. James.

We have visited The Royal Oak several times and their Sunday roasts have been absolutely lovely, but on this occasion it was not up to their previous standard.

Ordered rump steak medium but it was served medium rare. After complaining it was taken away to reheat but when it came back it was the same rare inside.

We enjoyed our walk along the valley of the Mole to the next village of Betchworth and back again to Brockham. We had booked a table at The Royal Oak, our table by the window overlooked the green. What a lovely pub, deservedly very popular by walkers and locals. We received a very warm and friendly welcome. Two of us chose the Sunday Roast, the other two had Plaice, we all really enjoyed our mains. My daughter and husband had ideally wanted Vegetarian Roast, but unfortunately this was not on the menu, although the waitress did double check with the kitchen, we did feel a non meat addition to the Roast menu was disappointing. We all had room for a dessert which was a nice end to our meal.

Pub was quite a nice experience however would not order Sunday roast there again. Shockingly small portions (it was so small I had to go back to the bar to check as it was smaller than my child's meal!!) and very overcooked vegetable(s). (1.5 potato, 2 baby carrots and 6 peas).

Great Sunday lunch with family and very hospitable Landlady who was attentive but never overbearing. Roast beef was of a very high standard with crispy potatoes and flavoursome and very rare Beef (exactly to our taste) the landlady was quick to 'warn' us of it rareness which would be handy for those who prefer their beef well done.

We were booked in for a birthday tea specially, even though they weren't doing teas that week. When we arrived a lovely big table with white tablecloth and napkins was ready for us. We were offered coffee and tea, which came promptly, followed by a plate of hot snacks and a cake stand containing a mouth-watering selection, including egg mayonnaise, coronation chicken and cheese and ham sandwiches. The bread was beautifully soft, with the crusts cut off. In addition were warm scones with jam and clotted cream, topped off by a selection of mini cakes. We were so full we had to take the cakes home! Thank you to Penny, who took such good care of us, and the other members of staff who made us feel very special.

We went for 'Breakfast with Santa." It was absolutely perfect. We had told the staff that we were unsure of how our 2 year old granddaughter might respond to Santa. The pub was decorated beautifully and they found us a table where she could observe from a distance. They provided us with little Christmas craft activities whilst we waited for our breakfasts. When our granddaughter felt brave enough to approach Santa, he was brilliant with her! He took her cues and met her exactly where she needed to be. We can't speak highly enough of the warmth, helpfulness and efficiency of the staff. This is a true family pub and we couldn't have wished for a better place for our granddaughter's first meeting with Father Christmas. Thank you, The Woodman and merry Christmas!
