I know this pub quite well and it’s fine for a drink with nice bar staff. However Ember Inns should be ashamed of the quality of food they dish up and the fact their pubs are always so understaffed. Last night, the first 4 main courses we ordered were out of stock. I mean what well run pub runs out of all their different steaks, their chicken and pretty much everything else on a quiet Weds night? I eventually had a bacon and cheese burger. The ‘chef’ clearly thought it was ok to serve this with skinny, rock hard fried that were dried out from being under a heat lamp for ages. The burger itself was a cheap patty that probably came from a frozen budget pack. It was topped with a slice of cold cheese. It was served without any cutlery or sauces and when we asked for some the waitress said ‘you’ll have to get it yourself, I’ve got more orders to get out’. The hierarchy and Regional manager at Ember Inns need changing if this is the type of rubbish they are willing to serve their customers and they cannot even have the regular staples on their menu in stock. Go to The Brewery in Ashtead instead

An amazing evening with a good priced and lovely food and an amazing atmosphere. The staff were super helpful and very friendly.

Visited twice this week for a meal and it feels like the heart has been ripped out of the pub. Food is standard pub fair which is what we expect but some real characters in there which is why we visit. They always make you feel welcome and always assist us getting back to the car. Let's hope the bar staff start to assist us as only the gentleman by the door have done in the past.

Attend the pub quiz regularly, always good fun - one day we'll do better than 2nd! Howard is a great quiz master, very dry and good sense of humour.

Not going to lie the atmosphere and venue is really nice. The service though was bad, my son’s meal for £5.49 was just a tiny bowl of pasta so I asked the server if that was it and his response was yeh, that’s it. I spoke to the manager and he sorted it with a manky piece of garlic bread. For the price it’s terrible.

The handsome landlord was very helpful, recommended a fantastic beer. Our meals were stunning and hot. Definitely worth a visit!

Great pub had the tandoori chicken skewer and appreciated seeing Madri on Draught. Staff were really friendly. Would recommend! Will be back :)

We held my mother in law's wake at The Woodman. A sit down meal. Everything, from the staff, the food, where our table was positioned, were excellent. We cannot thank you enough. From our initial phone call to James (The Manager) to one of the staff, purchasing flowers for our table. 10/10 you all made a difficult day, into a celebration of Maureen's life. Thank you

About the worst boozer one could attend. I’m 19, but had no ID and was drinking in a corner with my dad and some random staff member takes it upon himself to come over to me and ID me when I clearly look within age. He then proceeded to take the pint off of the table without asking. What a rude man. Who does he think he is? It’s not his business, nor is it his job to do that. His job is to serve booze, not go out of his own way to prevent someone for having a Guiness with his father. Grow up, stop being tight.

Decent lunch, outside in the sun. The app wasn't working - it would not let me update my credit card details; but ordering and paying at the till wasn't a problem.

The new menu has some good new food choices and I had the chicken schnitzel however it was a bit over cooked. My husband had the gammon which was fine but unfortunately wasn't able to finish it so decided to take it home. The chef accidentally threw it away and cooked a new one. My concern is the lowering of the alcohol volume of some of your best wine the Shiraz alcohol volume has been reduced to 10.5 which is unhead of for an Australian Red wine. I get that this is occurring with other brands but if you are going to do this why are you not reducing the price accordingly? By doing this you are changing the character, quality and depth of the wine. Other brands are doing this Whitbread, Mitchell and Butlers but are not giving the savings in tax back to the customer which is just not fair.

A large sprawling pub with a big beer garden that I would consider typical of the Ember inns brans. There was loads of comfortable seating inside, with plenty of room to move about and the staff were cheerful and courteous. A couple of large fireplaces are highlights in the main area giving it quite a warm and welcoming feel. The Guinness was excellent as was the London Pride.

Good service food was OK but very fair price

Came on Saturday evening, the girl that served us behind the bar was very moody and clearly didn't want to be there she kept huffing and sighing when taking our order...the food wasn't great the mac and cheese side and ultimate burger were really good but nachos didn't have proper cheese on it was like burger cheese or squeezy horrible cheese instead, chips with both mains were stale, cold and tasted old, the half chicken was more like a chicken leg and was very dry , not worth £45!

Experience with a rude staff member. Ordered takeaway delivery - two full meals with extra sides. They gave a delivery driver (who was apologetic) a single burger ONLY which got delivered. Asked for the full meals to be sent including a fresh burger to eat WITH the meal rather than having to either eat it while my wife waited for her meal and I waited for the rest of my meal or had to eat it cold with the rest of my meal when it arrived. Only response received ‘no we can’t give you a free burger’ 30 minutes later, still no rest of the food. Awful customer service to not fix the situation they caused.

so usually go down to Woodman for a easy celebratory meal with the kids usually a birthday and usually quite pleasant and very good value for money but I’m afraid last night Monday, the 8th of April. The best night they’ve stopped doing the nachos that I think were handmade in Howes to a generic nacho so that’s off the order menu now starters were all over the place to finish before others were coming out, and one of the steaks was incinerated rather a medium rare and then was replaced with one that have been shown the grill, but was blue inside. That’s always good value for money, but those little things not right spoiled experience. But to be honest it won’t stop me from going there

it was all fabulous….. we had a family lunch x 13 people and particular mention for Howard Jones who was outstanding as was the rest of the team, speedy service, politeness all round and sorted things quickly with no fuss when necessary. thanks so much … 10/10

I have been 3 times over the last 20 months. The best thing has always been the pint of London Pride. The overworked staff are attentive and helpful. The building is rather tired but no amount of money will improve it.

Tables left unclean, beer not very well kept, but didn't dare say anything because those serving behind the bar must rank as the most unwelcoming staff I've encountered in years!

Different prices Instore and website. Had to ask for the menu as it was curry night and the guy didn't know it was. The curry night menu was more expensive than what the website specified.

Had a great meal with a friend, ordered the mini desert with a coffee through the qr code on menus, when you do this there is no option to choose a coffee, basically paid full desert price for tiny desserts, when we asked about the coffee we were met with rudeness and arrogance from one of the staff members, I was so angry we hurriedly finished the deserts and left, on the way out the manager deliberately stood in my way so I had to walk around him. I've been coming to this pub since I was 8 years old and I'm sorry to say I will never go back again.

Good size pub plenty of seating indoors and out. Food is good and friendly service.

Service itself was fine as was the food. However having arrived at 7.45pm we ordered starters and manin courses only to find they stop selling deserts at 9pm. It hardly gives you much time to eat. Fortunately they accommodated us when we ordered deserts at 9.15pm. We were then told at 9.45 that they were closing early at 10pm as it was quiet - like the fact that we were there didn't matter. We were then chased to pay the bill at 10pm, which we did. We were able stay at the table a little longer, but without any drinks, which meant our evening meal wasn't curtailed to just over 2hrs. We then stayed until about 11pm, but somehow someone else arrived and was served 2 pints of lager, way after 10pm. All very odd. Why do these places now just choose to close early. If you've made plans to ho out with friends, a 10pm closing only amounts to a couple of hours - pointless. It was ok, but just that, I can't see us going back in a hurry, not if there's a risk they'll close early just because they fancy an early finish!

The woodman has been very up and down over the past few years but the last couple of times we have been in (December 2023) the service has been great and the food was good.

Service good, food bad. Crispy prawn sandwich had 3 prawns and came dry. We had to ask for the Marie rose sauce. Server was very apologetic. Prawns had most of the moisture cooked out of them. Shepherds pie tasted ok but was tiny. Cabbage came on the side but hadn't been strained properly, so sat in a puddle of water. £30 lighter and hungrier than when we went in.

Very annoying to find it was quiz night. Really loud questions over the speakers and nowhere in the pub to escape from it. Food was mediocre at best. One meal of half roast chicken was so dry as to be inedible. We received most of the money back for that Three vegetable dishes were badly cooked, either hard or limp.

Went for an evening meal and was first told there would be a 1 hour wait - not sure whether that was good news or bad. We ordered our food from an uninterested waitress, visibly irritated that we were keeping her awake. The food came quicker than the hour expected however it was average at best - nothing special to distinguish it from everywhere else although 2 of our party did not like their meal but were just too hungry to not eat. The ambience wasn't anything to write home about except, and I don't know if this was planned, the venue felt comfortable enough to eat but uncomfortable enough to discourage staying longer than needed. All in all, average - nothing more and nothing less.

Was my first today at this pub and My experience was horrible!! First the lady who got my order was in a bad mood. Secondly we wait 45min to get our food ! When 30min passed I asked for my food and the waiter said that they were defrosting the fish fingers! Seriously?!? After 10 minutes they brought me the fish fingers and I told him that we asked for nuggets NOT FISH fingers. After 5 minutes they brought me the nuggets kids meal but this time with peas when I asked baked beans arghh!!!😩 ahhh and of course they forgot to bring my 2 sides. I had to ask for that and they brought it within 5 minutes after 45 min waiting... Ridiculous. I've should asked for a refund. Very disappointed.

Excellent Festive meal for our Tendacare staff. 28 of us service efficiently and the food was hot and we had a good evening. Tables were festively decorated and staff friendly

Organising our Company (Tendacare) Festive meal was easy, and Hannah was very helpful and accommodating. The room and tables were beautiful decorated for Christmas and the food was delicious, plus there was a good choice. The service was impeccable, very efficient (though not rushed) and our plates were cleared away in good time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful evening. Thank you very much

The Fantastic, knowledgeable and welcoming staff are anyways on hand and willing to help any way they can. I'd highly recommend the Cosy, family friendly atmosphere. The ever bubbly and attentive Kate deserves at least 10 stars. I'd highly recommend visiting.

Very nice atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. Very inviting and homely. Food and drinks were of a high quality, good portions sizes at very fair prices.

So sorry to say, but not a good experience. Arrived there at 2.00pm, half an hour wait for starter. Then a further 1 hour and still no food arrived. Had to ask for a refund. Very poor service. Went home hungry. 😔

Didn't eat there but the drinks were reasonably priced and the service was good. Easy to find a nice quiet corner.

The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. I order from the Woodman via Deliveroo at least 3-5 times a week and am never disappointed. . I recommend the Hunters chicken, Sunday Turkey Roast or Scampi and chips as both very tasty and reasonably priced.

The kitchen stopped serving food at around 19:30. I understand the conditions were too hot, so I have every sympathy for those working in there. My son in law is a pub chef and sent us a picture showing a temperature of 51.6degrees celcius on the same night. We had a pizza delivered.

Nothing was great. Food was mediocre and the service was terrible. Food was ordered at the table at 13:00 and arrived at 1350, 2 dogs were allowed in the eating area one was not on the lead and consequently there was a dog fight. The whole experience was disgusting. It goes to say we will never go to the woodman again.

This is a great pub that offers excellent food and drinks as well as real craft ales. The pub is very spacious and the decor is rustic but with modern touches that make it airy and light. It's a lovely location and sitting outside is a joy on a Saturday or Sunday. The road is quiet and nice so adds that lovely " you're in the country " feeling. We love the Woodman Pub 🍻 😁

A group of us (25) booked in advance & pre-ordered our meals. We were seated in an area to accommodate us all which was handy so we could all get together.

Staff were very attentive and helpful. Nice to have so many staff all so happy and willing and genuinely looked like they enjoyed their jobs. The food was great - we had four starters and four roasts and there was not one thing wrong at all. Realise we shouldnt be surprised but some pubs we have visited recently we havent received the same service The ambience in the pub was nice too, very welcoming

Garden was lovely but not very child or dog friendly as there are a lot of holes in the fence! Food was okay, staff really friendly.
