Loved the place: cosy atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices, great service! Nothing not to like!

We attended with relations a party of 6 at around 6.30pm on a Sunday evening and I was pleased to see Sunday lunch was still available but limited. I chose my favourite beef roast, another member chose the turkey, one fresh fish and three vegetable lasagne. I can only really speak for my beef meal which was over cooked, dry and tough, the vegetables were over cooked and it gave the impression of all being warmed up. The fish dish looked unappetising, the stuffing with the turkey dish was reheated and inedible . The vegetarian lasagne was edible but uninspiring. Having eaten there on many occasions previously I was to say the least extremely disappointed. Pub meals are no longer cheap and customers will no longer put up with reheated food. If the lunch meals were not up to scratch they should not be reheated advertised and served. We will not be dining there again which is a shame. The staff were pleasant and prompt and the fault lies purely with the chef whose services should be dispensed with.

Always extremely impressed with the delicious food and service. Good value for money, super friendly and helpful staff, very cosy and comfortable atmosphere, plenty of parking, I would absolutely recommend The Woodman!

Come to the pub regularly, always a great atmosphere and friendly staff! This particular time, I was served by JJ, who was friendly, helpful and always had a smile on her face. The food came out fast, was piping hot and very tasty.

Nice atmosphere with fires burning. Service was quick but we only wanted a nice warming bowl of soup and a snack. The soup came in a very small bowl which was only just over half full and not very hot. Disappointing.

James and the staff were so hospitable on the night. We were a large party of over 30 adults and kids on New Year’s Eve and they had kindly printed our orders and left on the table. Food was served perfectly- it was delicious and everyone was super happy. It was a fab night and we will be back again for sure!

A fantastic Christmas dinner with turkey and vegetables (apart from the sprouts) well cooked with large portions. . A special mention to the two waitresses who did a brilliant job.

The staff were very good and also the food was very good. No improvement needed, just keep up the high standard.

Lovely food and a good pint of Guinness

Had a lovely relaxing meal, food was good, especially the chicken tikka masala and hot and fiery chicken wings. It is reasonably priced and has a lovely friendly atmosphere. Lovely to walk our dog and then go and have a good meal. The dog when walking near, now pulls to get in there (or so my husband told me). Really good balance between being a traditional pub and providing pub grub.

Excellent value. Good food and beer. Big, spacious pub and garden, surrouded by greenery, and nice spacious car park. What's not to like? Definitely going back!

We went for 'Breakfast with Santa." It was absolutely perfect. We had told the staff that we were unsure of how our 2 year old granddaughter might respond to Santa. The pub was decorated beautifully and they found us a table where she could observe from a distance. They provided us with little Christmas craft activities whilst we waited for our breakfasts. When our granddaughter felt brave enough to approach Santa, he was brilliant with her! He took her cues and met her exactly where she needed to be. We can't speak highly enough of the warmth, helpfulness and efficiency of the staff. This is a true family pub and we couldn't have wished for a better place for our granddaughter's first meeting with Father Christmas. Thank you, The Woodman and merry Christmas!

Food was not what I spect, was very small portions, I asked at the bar for an Orange cranberry juice with a shot of Gin, and the charger me more than I spect to be, when my friend tries the drink she said Ho this drink doesn't have the Gin,

Another excellent meal at the Woodman . Atmosphere nice and warm , staff attentive and helpful.( unfortunately I didn’t catch the name of the young lady who took care of us, but we did appreciate her professional and attentive manner) We had the mushroom wellington (only available at weekends , sadly) and it came with a nice array of vegetables, all fresh n crispy. The vegan cheezcake was excellent. Staff very helpful when booking a table for three. Will be visiting again soon Regards Russ and Nikki

Very disappointed with the food and service today. Have eaten here before and they are often short staffed but generally good has been good. Not the case today. We were there to celebrate our mother’s birthday, ordered the rib of beef Sunday roast. Waited 40 years for good to arrive and when it did the roast potatoes were clearly Aunt Bessie style, but edible, just disappointing that they weren’t cooked and roasted freshly. The main issue was the beef which was not only fatty and grisly but was so salty it was inedible, ( and I like salty food normally). We complained to a member of staff who said’ leave it with me’ and preceded to do nothing. After about 20 minutes he had not moved from the bar or come over with a resolution. I complained to who I believe was the manager on duty at the time. I explained we had complained about the food but not had any response, She said ‘ yes, it’s meant to be salty, I’d give you another but it will be the same- I explained that my mother’s wasn’t as salty as ours so may not be the same, the response was , ‘ oh that’s strange- do you want a side dish or something, or I could give you some Turkey? ‘ we declined as we were now over half an hour post food arriving. No apology was received, no refund and no acknowledgment that this was an issue and she should be trying to resolve it . Worst customer service I have experienced for a long time.

By far one of the better places we go for Sunday Lunch...its becoming our family favourite place. Great food and the staff are fantastic...highly recommend.

Went for their Wednesday night quiz night and it was great. The guy who hosts it, has a fantastic quiz show host voice. Good difficulty level both times we have been and we won both times we went go team Beagles Dentures. Look forward to the next one. Pints tasty and food looked and smelt great.

The pub itself was very pleasant and the drinks were excellent. However there were lot of unavailable items on the menu. I was also served a very gristlely piece on steak.

I know this pub quite well and it’s fine for a drink with nice bar staff. However Ember Inns should be ashamed of the quality of food they dish up and the fact their pubs are always so understaffed. Last night, the first 4 main courses we ordered were out of stock. I mean what well run pub runs out of all their different steaks, their chicken and pretty much everything else on a quiet Weds night? I eventually had a bacon and cheese burger. The ‘chef’ clearly thought it was ok to serve this with skinny, rock hard fried that were dried out from being under a heat lamp for ages. The burger itself was a cheap patty that probably came from a frozen budget pack. It was topped with a slice of cold cheese. It was served without any cutlery or sauces and when we asked for some the waitress said ‘you’ll have to get it yourself, I’ve got more orders to get out’. The hierarchy and Regional manager at Ember Inns need changing if this is the type of rubbish they are willing to serve their customers and they cannot even have the regular staples on their menu in stock. Go to The Brewery in Ashtead instead

An amazing evening with a good priced and lovely food and an amazing atmosphere. The staff were super helpful and very friendly.

Visited twice this week for a meal and it feels like the heart has been ripped out of the pub. Food is standard pub fair which is what we expect but some real characters in there which is why we visit. They always make you feel welcome and always assist us getting back to the car. Let's hope the bar staff start to assist us as only the gentleman by the door have done in the past.

Attend the pub quiz regularly, always good fun - one day we'll do better than 2nd! Howard is a great quiz master, very dry and good sense of humour.

Not going to lie the atmosphere and venue is really nice. The service though was bad, my son’s meal for £5.49 was just a tiny bowl of pasta so I asked the server if that was it and his response was yeh, that’s it. I spoke to the manager and he sorted it with a manky piece of garlic bread. For the price it’s terrible.

The handsome landlord was very helpful, recommended a fantastic beer. Our meals were stunning and hot. Definitely worth a visit!

Great pub had the tandoori chicken skewer and appreciated seeing Madri on Draught. Staff were really friendly. Would recommend! Will be back :)

We held my mother in law's wake at The Woodman. A sit down meal. Everything, from the staff, the food, where our table was positioned, were excellent. We cannot thank you enough. From our initial phone call to James (The Manager) to one of the staff, purchasing flowers for our table. 10/10 you all made a difficult day, into a celebration of Maureen's life. Thank you

About the worst boozer one could attend. I’m 19, but had no ID and was drinking in a corner with my dad and some random staff member takes it upon himself to come over to me and ID me when I clearly look within age. He then proceeded to take the pint off of the table without asking. What a rude man. Who does he think he is? It’s not his business, nor is it his job to do that. His job is to serve booze, not go out of his own way to prevent someone for having a Guiness with his father. Grow up, stop being tight.

Decent lunch, outside in the sun. The app wasn't working - it would not let me update my credit card details; but ordering and paying at the till wasn't a problem.

The new menu has some good new food choices and I had the chicken schnitzel however it was a bit over cooked. My husband had the gammon which was fine but unfortunately wasn't able to finish it so decided to take it home. The chef accidentally threw it away and cooked a new one. My concern is the lowering of the alcohol volume of some of your best wine the Shiraz alcohol volume has been reduced to 10.5 which is unhead of for an Australian Red wine. I get that this is occurring with other brands but if you are going to do this why are you not reducing the price accordingly? By doing this you are changing the character, quality and depth of the wine. Other brands are doing this Whitbread, Mitchell and Butlers but are not giving the savings in tax back to the customer which is just not fair.

A large sprawling pub with a big beer garden that I would consider typical of the Ember inns brans. There was loads of comfortable seating inside, with plenty of room to move about and the staff were cheerful and courteous. A couple of large fireplaces are highlights in the main area giving it quite a warm and welcoming feel. The Guinness was excellent as was the London Pride.

Good service food was OK but very fair price

Came on Saturday evening, the girl that served us behind the bar was very moody and clearly didn't want to be there she kept huffing and sighing when taking our order...the food wasn't great the mac and cheese side and ultimate burger were really good but nachos didn't have proper cheese on it was like burger cheese or squeezy horrible cheese instead, chips with both mains were stale, cold and tasted old, the half chicken was more like a chicken leg and was very dry , not worth £45!

Experience with a rude staff member. Ordered takeaway delivery - two full meals with extra sides. They gave a delivery driver (who was apologetic) a single burger ONLY which got delivered. Asked for the full meals to be sent including a fresh burger to eat WITH the meal rather than having to either eat it while my wife waited for her meal and I waited for the rest of my meal or had to eat it cold with the rest of my meal when it arrived. Only response received ‘no we can’t give you a free burger’ 30 minutes later, still no rest of the food. Awful customer service to not fix the situation they caused.

so usually go down to Woodman for a easy celebratory meal with the kids usually a birthday and usually quite pleasant and very good value for money but I’m afraid last night Monday, the 8th of April. The best night they’ve stopped doing the nachos that I think were handmade in Howes to a generic nacho so that’s off the order menu now starters were all over the place to finish before others were coming out, and one of the steaks was incinerated rather a medium rare and then was replaced with one that have been shown the grill, but was blue inside. That’s always good value for money, but those little things not right spoiled experience. But to be honest it won’t stop me from going there

it was all fabulous….. we had a family lunch x 13 people and particular mention for Howard Jones who was outstanding as was the rest of the team, speedy service, politeness all round and sorted things quickly with no fuss when necessary. thanks so much … 10/10

I have been 3 times over the last 20 months. The best thing has always been the pint of London Pride. The overworked staff are attentive and helpful. The building is rather tired but no amount of money will improve it.

Tables left unclean, beer not very well kept, but didn't dare say anything because those serving behind the bar must rank as the most unwelcoming staff I've encountered in years!

Different prices Instore and website. Had to ask for the menu as it was curry night and the guy didn't know it was. The curry night menu was more expensive than what the website specified.

Had a great meal with a friend, ordered the mini desert with a coffee through the qr code on menus, when you do this there is no option to choose a coffee, basically paid full desert price for tiny desserts, when we asked about the coffee we were met with rudeness and arrogance from one of the staff members, I was so angry we hurriedly finished the deserts and left, on the way out the manager deliberately stood in my way so I had to walk around him. I've been coming to this pub since I was 8 years old and I'm sorry to say I will never go back again.

Good size pub plenty of seating indoors and out. Food is good and friendly service.

Service itself was fine as was the food. However having arrived at 7.45pm we ordered starters and manin courses only to find they stop selling deserts at 9pm. It hardly gives you much time to eat. Fortunately they accommodated us when we ordered deserts at 9.15pm. We were then told at 9.45 that they were closing early at 10pm as it was quiet - like the fact that we were there didn't matter. We were then chased to pay the bill at 10pm, which we did. We were able stay at the table a little longer, but without any drinks, which meant our evening meal wasn't curtailed to just over 2hrs. We then stayed until about 11pm, but somehow someone else arrived and was served 2 pints of lager, way after 10pm. All very odd. Why do these places now just choose to close early. If you've made plans to ho out with friends, a 10pm closing only amounts to a couple of hours - pointless. It was ok, but just that, I can't see us going back in a hurry, not if there's a risk they'll close early just because they fancy an early finish!

The woodman has been very up and down over the past few years but the last couple of times we have been in (December 2023) the service has been great and the food was good.
