Ye Olde Windsor Castle in Mole Valley

Had Sunday lunch with my partner, me roast and she Sea Bass. The fish and accompaniments were apparently good. My roast OK, pork a bit of a small portion, very small piece of cracking (not off a joint but backfat crackling made separately and not flavoursome) and a bit of a disappointing 4 small roasties. Was only eating functionally so not worth raising at the time with staff who were all pleasant. We eat frequently in this chain and probably this was in keeping with our previous meals in Chef & Brewer. It did seem that they had a lot of bookings arriving as we were eating and I do think portions appear to have been calculated to ensure all bookings could be covered. Also seemed from surrounding tables many items were off the menu.

We've been for food and drink on many occasions. The staff including the manager are always extremely accommodating. We often come in fairly large groups and/or with young children and we always made to feel welcome. Food and ales also pretty decent

Me and a friend had lunch in here this week. And we are pretty regular customers. On this occasion the food was very good 👍 and Barry, the manager is good Craic. Ps the garden is looking beautiful

Staff were really friendly but the Sunday roast was nothing to write home about. The fact that they used frozen roast potatoes from a packet tells you it wasn't up to much, especially for the price. The Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert, however, was to die for!!!

Excellent service, nice quiet place, just a shame that not everything was available even though we were there at 2:30, but what was on was good, my only gripe is the leeks that came with my pork were inedible, but the bubble and squeak was delicious

Excellent Sunday Lunch. The portions were huge and exceptionally good value. The turkey absolutely melted in the mouth. Efficient and friendly service. Cannot recommend highly enough.

My Wife and I went for breakfast with our 12 week old daughter. The manager, Barry, couldn’t have been more accommodating and we received a very warm welcome. The coffee was superb and the food delicious. Highly recommend for a relaxed atmosphere. We will be coming back!

Very friendly staff but the service was painfully slow considering it wasn't that busy. Sunday roast came with heated up frozen roast potatoes and there wasn't much, quantity wise, considering the price. The Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert was to die for. We'll try it again.

You can't go wrong with pub grub. Good food and service. Would be better if there was live music, maybe a Friday or Saturday night.

Enjoyable evening at Windsor. Good table position as we had to bring dogs with us. Service very good, staff friendly and helpful. Meal was good, chicken pies were much enjoyed. Three vegetarian choices. Air conditioning could have been turned down a bit but otherwise a good evening

Lovely staff and service - they were great. However the steak sandwich I ordered was overcooked and a bit chewy, and the salad never arrived because the kitchen was missing ingredients, but we were only informed when everyone else got their food. Overall was a nice place, I would visit again but probably just for drinks

Arrived at 14:00. Staff very unfriendly and unhelpful. Was told needed to check if the kitchen was still open and whether they had resources at 14:00 on a Sunday afternoon! Pub was half empty. Asked to speak to the Manager and was a big issue trying to speak to the Manager. We have been going for over 20 years. But never again! Has definitely gone downhill!!

We stopped for a midweek lunch and the pub was quiet as you'd expect so I could only mark it 4 stars for atmosphere. I'm sure at the weekend it is pretty lively. The menu is good and varied and the food was very tasty! The staff were great, so polite and attentive, probably the best servers we've come across in a very long time 🏅

From the outside you might not expect much, but tonight I have enjoyed some delicious food with great company and experienced very attentive service. The team here knew when to check in, and when to let three cackling women have space to chat and enjoy our meal. This is my third visit I will definitely be back again. Thank you to Steve, Nate and the rest of the team for facilitating a lovely evening.

A lovely pub in Little Bookham. Great service and good food. Good selection of drinks including non alcoholic beers.

We had Sunday lunch at the pub yesterday. The service was good with friendly staff but the food was dreadful. The carrot and broccoli was dry the potatoes were very dry as if the had been under a heating lamp for hours. We did mention those and got a bowl of French fries to replace them, they were the freshest hottest thing we had. The Yorkshires were more like bread. The River beef was ok but wouldn't go again the mushroom wellington was disappointing as well.

I really like this pub, the service is always excellent and the staff are very friendly. The atmosphere inside is lovely and cosy, I went here today for breakfast and it was very nice. The food is always excellent whatever time of day you're eating. They offer a wide variety of menu options and cater for all dietary requirements. They are also dog friendly and as they are close to some lively areas to walk in you can pop in for a nice break and some refreshments. Would highly recommend this pub.

Stopped in for a family meal, on a Saturday lunch time at 1o’clock without booking. Luckily they had a table but I would advise to book as we almost missed out on getting a table. The service was very very good. The service was friendly, helpful and attentive. I had 2 children under the age of 6 with me which is reflected in the spend per person figure.

Regular haunt for a lunchtime drink and food. Friendly with a good choice of food and seating. Plenty of space outside now weather is getting better

Sadly slipping standards at formerly good Chef and Brewer. Many menu items unavailable as said to be sold out - at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening! Frozen chips were still partly frozen, battered fish soggy. Will not be returning.

Lovely little pub, fantastic food, good service, me and the wife had their burgers. I had their signature burger, and it was one of the best burgers I have had in a long while. The wife had cheese and bacon burger and she also loved it. The kids they were boring and had pizza chips and beans but they eat the lot.

We chose Ye Olde Windsor Castle for our small wedding reception. Barry was very helpful, enthusiastic and thorough in helping us plan the menu and how we wanted the room set up. There were plenty of options of hot and cold dishes and thanks to Terry the chef and his team the food was delicious and nicely presented. The amazing staff were always on hand to make sure we had all we needed. We want to say a big thank to such a professional friendly team. Highly recommended.

This place gets the job done for a good feed and is great for families. Staff were super friendly and attentive. The food hits the spot and falls firmly in the bracket of gastro pub grub. The venue still retains the chain vibe a bit which is a shame and probably wouldn't recommend for just drinks given the focus on food service. All in all a solid shout if visiting with friends and much improved since my previous visit.

Sadly 2nd Sunday roast visit and been disappointed on both occasions. After having a bad beef rib on the first visit I opted for sirloin which was chewy & I tried to struggle through and decided to moan when I couldn’t even cut the 2nd fatty slice. Bad beef was removed from my plate and was told sadly that sometimes there’s a bad cut and was eagerly awaiting a good cut which never materialised.

Have visited this pub many times over the last 30yrs but not much recently because service and food were not as good as they had been; however, today was a very pleasant surprise. It seems much improved and definitely on the up. Great friendly service, good atmosphere and lovely food. Thank you.

Came in with quite low expectations for a late lunch and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! The staff were friendly & helpful, we were served by Kyle & Barry; and the food was lovely, thank you for recommending the Sticky Toffee Cheesecake by Chef Tom.

Visited last Saturday lunch time. Greeted by lovely staff who were helpful and kind throughout our meal. The food varied in quality...delicious salmon and gammon. Tasty steak and ale pie but far too much thick pastry. My seabass and risotto was disappointing. I should have brought it to the attention of the waiters earlier rather than ploughing on and eating it. It was lukewarm, the rice was undercooked; crunchy rather than creamy. The scallops were dry and rubbery. I was given a glass of wine to compensate. My elderly relative requested one scoop of sorbet for dessert but was brought sorbet plus 3 huge scoops of unwanted ice cream. She was told 'that is how it comes!' The ice cream was consequently wasted unnecessarily. How inflexible! Despite the positives, we will think twice before visiting again.

Visited on one of the busiest days of the year - Mothers' Day. Welcome very good and the menu for the day had excellent choices. Good draft beer to begin and for my wife they provided hot water with lemon. The three course meal provided choices common to many British pubs and restaurants, but it was clear that homemade was a feature here. All the food was served well, with warm plates or bowls as required. The roast meals had a good variety of vegetables alongside the meat and extras such as horseradish readily provided. The sundae for dessert was excellent and the waiter made sure my wife's dessert was heated to just the right temperature, Throughout there was good attention to detail and providing the food in a way that suited un individually. Special thanks to Freddie and Nathan for excellent service. Will look forward to a return visit.

I cannot praise barry, steve and all the staff at the windsor castle enough. Food is always wonderful and the real ale is kept to perfection. Having been a regular for over 30 years this is the best team that we have had and i hope they continue for many more years.

Nowhere near as good as previous visits. I was served the wrong food initially. The pie had a rock hard crust and was not so good inside either. Really put me off. We waited ages for service and especially the bill. Will try again before making a final decision.

While my parents were visiting the area we were let down by another pub nearby. Searching for pubs near me found this gem of a pub. We’re given a table by the door and have nothing but a positive experience. Some great, friendly and attentive staff. One guy said he’d only been there a couple of weeks but was very knowledgable about the menu. Starters and main we fantastic. Steak cooked to perfection and mixed grill is definitely recommended. Will be returning again.

Victor who served us was brilliant and chef Tom’s food was delicious the whole place and personal we’re outstanding such a nice place to of visited.

Had an amazing evening, do impressed, nothing was too much trouble. Mel deserves a 5 star award for customer service, and the Manager Danny bent over backwards to make our evening enjoyable. Sunday roast dinner was shocking, I had sirloin of beef, very mediocre, one small piece of carrot a tiny piece of broccoli, aunt Bessie frozen roast potatoes, deep fried to oblivion, there was no trace of potato left, Yorkshire pudding was soggy and full of oil, the oil tasted like it was days old all in all very disappointed and felt completely ripped of, the rest of the family had the same opinion with there roasts especially the Turkey roast that tasted like Turkey roll not a Turkey carved, even the kids meals were deep fried to death, I would personally stay well clear, me and my family came away with a very sour taste in are mouths, if I could give no stars I would of, definitely not recommend.

Pretty disappointing due to the food, or lack of! I went here tonight for my birthday. I'd booked a table for 6 and said we were coming for dinner so I was sure that would give them a good heads up that we'd be expecting to order off the menu. But when we tried to order our food there were lots of things they didn't have, or had run out of, both food and drinks and on a Friday night. And it wasn't even overly busy. It was such a shame as its a lovely pub. The waiting staff were great though, I couldn't falt them, they were polite and very efficient. The pub itself is a lovely place to be, with nice private tables and a lovely chilled but chatty atmosphere. But sadly it was the food that let it down. Out of the 4 dishes we ordered (one of us didn't come, one didnt want to eat and we would have ordered starters but they didnt have any of the ones we tried to order) 3 of them were disappointing due to poor cooking, very dry chicken & burnt lasagne being the main issues among others. Then they run out of two types of gin my friend tried to order, and didn't have any of the vodka I wanted so she ended up drinking wine and i had to buy a more expensive vodka. It wasnt the best evening if im honest. They did give us something off our bill which makes it a bit easier to accept but id prefer to have gone to somewhere where i know they'll give us what they're offering on the menu and cooked to a professional standard as I feel it should be when in a pub/restaurant. However this hasn't put me off completely, I'll still go there again for a drink but sadly I won't be ordering any food from them again.

Very friendly bar staff on entering. When I met a group of friends they had booked a table on the carpeted area. A member of staff politely told me that my dog was not allowed on the carpeted area (giving my dog some yummy biscuits by way of apology!). The group kindly agreed to move to an area where my dog was able to sit and the member of staff instantly went to a lot of trouble to move around tables and chairs for us. I was very appreciative of the effort that he went to, without any indication that it was a bother. Thank you for making my dog (and us) so very welcome! (No food was eaten so unable to comment on the food but my dog very much enjoyed the biscuits!)

Pleasant location and polite staff

Only came in for a hot chocolate but my goodness the service is some of the best I’ve dealt with. What a lovely welcoming atmosphere, the lady was wonderful. My friend forgot her bag and we came back when they had closed and they still let us in and were looking us up on Facebook to contact us about it! Impeccable service, would highly recommend! :)

Lovely place with good pub food. But the staff here are amazing. They were so welcoming when we visited yesterday with our little boy, and could not do enough for us. Even making a fuss of our little boy, which he loved. Thanks to all the staff who made our time so lovely.

We recently held our Mum's wake in the restaurant at the Windsor Castle - a light and airy room which somehow also managed to feel quite intimate. After an initial glitch around our booking and menu selection, Steve could not have been more helpful in ensuring the room was set up as needed, and the team of Mel, James and Chef Tom provided a welcoming and attentive service to our guests on the day. The buffet was extremely generous and provided an interesting mix of tasty flavours (some great veggie options too). But, perhaps more importantly for the occasion, we felt that we were welcome to stay for as long as we wanted and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The next day, we again met with a warm welcome from Barry when we returned to collect some materials the team kindly kept there for us there overnight. Overall, we felt it was good value for money and very hard to fault. Thanks, everyone!

We meet every 2nd Wednesday at Ye Old Windsor Castle. We have always found the staff to be friendly and attentive. If an issue ever were to arise I am 100% positive that it would be dealt with promptly and politely (although we never have) as all staff are so professional.. Full 5 star rating in our books.

Steve and his team were great - even taking extra time to chose a bottle of champagne for this 21st birthday celebration. Great service by Steve and James - attentive but relaxing. My mixed grill was very good too - I think Terry was the chef. A lovely “country” pub, which while part of a chain still maintains a very welcoming and personal touch.

We went here for our first festive menu experience this year so far and we weren’t disappointed. Huge amounts of food, well-cooked and delicious (definitely have the mince pie sundae, oh my word), very good value, and delightful staff. We’d like to thank Neil, Mel and chef Terry for a lovely dinner…luckily, we left the car at home and so could walk back slowly to let it all go down!

Had a spontaneous trip to the Windsor as a celebration dinner for my Mrs. Was fantastic being greeted by the staff as we came in, and the atmosphere was so warming can see it's a cosy local pub. There was the assistant manager Steve who gave me some good information on all the beers on tap and went beyond to make sure we were able to get the meals we wanted. As it was the evening when we came in even the chefs came out and delivered our meals, explaining the dishes and having a laugh. Will definitely come back to eat again and hopefully try head chefs specials. Thankyou Steve, chef Tom and James for an amazing evening and meal

We were looked after by Kyle today and he did an outstanding job. We had a beautiful Sunday roast and like i said the service was excellent. The food aswell was beautiful today.. I had a lovely meal washed down with a great bottle of the house red with the friends and family discount it was inexpensive and certainly worth the money. They also do NHS blue light discount. It’s local to me so I’m pleased to say I will happily be returning as the staff are always helpful and friendly along with great food Il sure il be popping in for a Christmas tipple.

We are here every week, as our work is just up the road! We came here for drinks and ended up getting a few sides while we had a drink. Had a lovely time, with lovely staff!

A nice lunchtime experience for our party of 5. Daphne, our Brazilian waitress, was very accommodating and attentive, and she provided excellent customer service ☺️ A good varied menu which we found reasonably priced, with the welcome addition of a "specials" menu. The seafood grill was most enjoyable, although I felt it should have included some vegetables or salad ..... not just fish and potatoes. We also found the assistant manager friendly and helpful.

Perfect service and good food. Will be back! Ok, so first off I am wary of chain pubs but it was a last minute decision and I thought I'd give it a go. Glad I did. The booking line is weird. It's a robot called Claire. Give "her" her dues it listened well and i got an immediate text comfirming booking. I just like real people :-) Anyway, the real waiting and management team were a joy. Engaging and genuinely interested by our experience. They called to warn us the roast may be down by our 5.30 sitting due to unexpected rush but we were in luck! The roast was enjoyable. Good portions and veg was good. No overcooked soggy brocolli on my plate. Turkey was moist. I'd have liked crispy potatoes and parsnips but cooking lots is hard. Good value. Felt very at home. If I was meeting a friend I would not feel uncomfortable waiting alone. Well done to team.

A shocking experience waited an hour and a half for food to come out no time updates food missing not to our order never coming back food always missing off the menu would not recommend surprising the business hasn’t gone under with cold food and shocking service I recommend boycotting the place

I hadn't eaten at Ye Olde Windsor Castle for a couple of years but thought I would visit it again. The food was wonderful and there were so many options including a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Not only was the food amazing but the service could not be faulted. The staff were extremely helpful and obliging. Will definitely be using it again and have passed the word around.

The service and the food are the main reasons I have given this restaurant such a high score. Professional, efficient, personable and caring, the waiting staff are brilliant! The food is delicious. Perfectly cooked, well presented and with vegetarian and vegan options available. This is a beautiful old building, decorated to perfectly compliment the original style in a modern way. We liked it so much we came back the next day! My keyword here is 'excellence'.

Went out for a Sunday roast with family for two birthdays, our booking was 1.15pm, we waited an hour to get to order our food, which then took another 15 minutes. We had no one attend to us for the first hour then when food came, which was served to us by the head chef, we had everyone over which is too much. We then finished and Daphny came over to us, two of us had finished but two were still eating and she proceeded to clear plates, which is really rude! Then it took her a while to clear the other two. We decided on no pudding and had to ask for the bill when she finally cleared them so that we weren’t waiting forever to leave. The food though was lovely, and the head chef was so friendly and attentive!

We have been going to the pub for the last 25 years and it has been a bit up and down. But recently it has improved and we gave a 5 star rating for food and service last time as it was well deserved. Unfortunately this was not our last experience. We arrived without a booking and turned away. 2 people who had also not booked, were subsequently allowed a table, even though we were before them. Very disappointing and we took our business elsewhere with a bill of over £90. Your loss Windsor castle!
