Popped in for a drink after a long walk and despite it being a busy Sunday afternoon we still got a cozy table straight away and had a nice drink. I thought the pub had a really nice relaxed feel to it so we will be back soon to try the food.

Booked a table for 8, staggered arrivals, we were never rushed at all. The staff were polite and friendly, the food is reasonably priced and very nicely presented. Two people in the party had the steak (I wish I had now) -they said it was superb, and you even get a complementary glass of wine to go with it. Not a huge dessert menu, but what I had was really delicious (banoffee). It was a very relaxed atmosphere- I would definitely recommend.

We've been going to the Cock Inn for a couple of months, since it changed hands, and we were quite happy with the brunch. BUT today a little disappointed. we were told on arrival there was no black pudding or hash browns...ok we could have an extra sausage!! one of our party ordered the garden breakfast and there was no spinach, no avocado, no hash brown , no Portobello mushroom but there was bacon??? really. we also waited 45 minutes for food. I'm not sure we will be visiting again. I'm sure someone in charge should be able to get the ordering correct . disappointing.

The staff were very friendly and polite. No problem. I ordered a Fish finger sandwich which was horrible. There were 2 fish fingers in a brioche sandwich. The fish fingers consisted of fatty batter with minimal fish inside. The whole thing was greasy and laden with fat The chips were equally soggy and full of fat. This is a pity as the pub has a delightful atmosphere. My 2 acquaintances had soup and tourine and had no adverse comment.

Bad reception no good afternoon or I will be with you in a minute, 10 minutes before we were seated, another wait before we got served with drinks. Then another wait before we ordered the meal. Yet another wait before we got our meal to find it was just warm. Could not eat it We did complain Waitress very apologetic. Asked for the bill they deducted the price for the drinks which was appreciated but it would have been better if we had better service and a hot meal. It was not busy at all.

Such a disappointing Sunday roast. £25 plus service charge for "dry aged sirloin of beef" (two rectangular slabs of thin grey meat) and £18 plus service charge for "crisp lamb shoulder bonbon" (two rectangular slabs of thin grey meat) - all with soggy Yorkshire puddings, and soggy veg. I've seen photos of the roasts from here on Google reviews from a year ago and ours today looked nothing like that. Gutted - as we were really looking forward to this meal in a pub we used to really enjoy.

The chef who I was facing appeared rushed off his feet. Burgers and chips flying past every few minutes. Starter came no problem and very nice but After waiting three quarters of an hour and still no sign of main course and despite enquiring several times we decided to leave for an appointment. I complained to the manager who agreed that others who arrived later had been served. Its in a lovely location and would try again on a weekday but never the weekend.

We arrived for a lunch on the way back after a school rugby match. We’d booked, the pub was half full at most. After being seated in a cozy spot, albeit in full sunlight so it was very hot, we had to wait 20 mins for drinks. It was just over an hour before food arrived, only it wasn’t what we ordered. The waitress said she’d check in the kitchen and was never seen again. (Hint: a 7 year old is unlikely to order a seafood platter for two) Left to our own devices the table next to us thought it was theirs so we sorted it ourselves. We’d obviously finished our drinks long before this point and we’re going to leave but our post-match 11 year old was starving and told us to give it 10 more minutes as ‘he wants sausages’ Our food finally arrived and to be honest it was fairly decent as pub food goes. The waitress put the food on our table and ran off before we could ask for more drinks. We didn’t see a member of staff again so with no drinks we finished our food quickly (we’d been at the Cock for 2 hours by this point) and spent another 10 minutes trying to get someone’s attention to ask for the bill. The cheeky ******** had put a 10% service charge on it. For what exactly? There was plenty of staff around, they don’t look particularly busy and perfectly nice when you get to speak to them but they clearly have no idea what they’re doing and haven’t been trained at all. Whoever runs this place really needs to get on a management course themselves and sort out the team. You’re letting the food and the location down badly.

Booked brunch for 4 people on Saturday and were told when we sat down that the chef was 'stuck behind a horse' so would be another 15mins before he arrived. This wasn't a problem as we weren't in a rush. The table was a bit old and haggard and sticky to the touch and the place had a rundown feel about it. When we eventually ordered our food, 2 of us ordered the breakfast, one went for eggs benedict and the other had smashed avocado on sourdough. The 2 breakfasts were delivered without the black pudding and beans - when we asked the waiter was apologetic and went away to check. He came back shortly after with the black pudding and then had to go and come back again with the beans. The Manager came and said that the chef wasn't happy with the ham so would we mind if he gave us bacon instead, which we said was fine. He told us that the chef would make it special - not much seemed special about it when it arrived. In spite of the food being wrong initially, it was ok, but not good enough to tempt us back.

We sat outside and they hadn’t seemingly been to tidy up for a while from night before. Umbrellas shabby. Tables are in desperate need of a deep clean or replacement. Dog mess on floor. Litter, bird mess, crayons, napkins, crumbs, food remains scattered on every choice of table. It felt dirty. No dog treats to offer or water in bowls. Staff weren’t interested or attentive. I’m sure impressions would be different on a different day but we chose a Sunday early lunch. Come and meet the team it said. No-one came to meet us it wasn’t at all friendly .

My new favourite. It has great food, a great atmosphere, and easy parking. Staff are always friendly and know the menu's. Update august 2024: went for afternoon tea today, what a huge disappointment. £25 per person for what you could buy and put together in a supermarket for less than £5 as obviously bought in. No disability access as lift was broken and walk was to far for step free access, should have been made aware of this. Waste of money and time. Disappointed considering birthday treat and we enjoyed it the last time we came, massively gone downhill.

A very poor dining experience. The four of us ordered starters and mains, the mains arrived before the starters! When we finally received the starters one was missing. We then waited a long time for our main courses. When they arrived the poached egg on the crab cake was hard boiled! The response to that was it's just been cooked?!?! The steak was cold and the burger wasn't much better and to top it off one of our meals didn't arrive. The response from management was the chef was on his own and new? Not very professional to leave a new chef on his own in the kitchen. Also the chef should have a bit of pride in his work and not send out food that doesn't meet standard. And the pork scratchings we ordered when we first arrived took over 30 minutes to reach the table. You were highly recommended by a friend sad to say I won't be reciprocating.

Popped in for a light lunch on my 60th. A painful experience. Over 30mins wait for 2 x cold fish finger sandwiches @ £13.95 each to eventually arrive after chasing up the whereabouts of our order which had clearly been forgotten about. Waitress asked if we wanted sauces to which we replied yes please but she never returned. Finally our patience ran out. Returned cold food for a refund which was also a saga as they even had to do that twice as they made a mistake and only refunded one initially. Very disappointing...

We popped in for a drink today. We ordered a large wine and a rockstar martini. The bill came to £28. We paid and proceeded to sit down at a table. We looked through the menu as we were considering lunch and saw that the average price of a glass of wine was £8.50. It therefore seemed ridiculous that we had been charged £28 for 2 drinks. I approached the person who served us to query the situation. She informed me that she had charged us for 2x small glasses as we had asked for a large. This could have been acceptable if she had informed us of this instead of making up a charge of her own. I asked her if I could speak to a manger and she informed me that she was the manager. She offered no apology, she did offer to refund £8.50 which we accepted but my drink tasted sour after that. We quickly exited the establishment and will not be returning there any time soon.

Service: The service was exceptionally slow and poor. The staff seemed almost depressed and were clearly short-staffed. We waited an hour for a Sunday roast and two kids’ meals. Additionally, the drinks we ordered took over 40 minutes to arrive, despite asking several times. This included some water and a much-needed glass of wine. Food: When the food finally arrived, it was average, and not worth the wait. Value: We were overcharged, and while queuing to get our refund, we overheard multiple customers requesting the service charge be removed. When asked how everything was not one person expressed satisfaction. Conclusion: Overall, it was a major letdown. The combination of poor service, long wait times, and overcharging made for a very unpleasant dining experience. I would not recommend it to anyone and hope they address these issues promptly to improve future customer experiences

Went with my partner and dog on a Saturday evening. Waited quite a long time to be seated and then were put right by another table with dogs, by the loud kitchen, despite most other tables being free. The dogs on the other table seemed bothered by our dog but we weren't offered another table when they were barking. Ordered drinks and main courses. Asked for water, which never came. Food was poor; fish and chicken burger were burnt and tasteless. Side order was added to wrong main course. No one came to check on us or offer more drinks so went to the bar to get the original water. Waited for ages at the bar before noticing a tank of water at the end of the bar, which was empty so I approached a server to ask for water again - he said he wouldn't be a moment but then wandered around the pub and kitchen, not seeming to do much. Another server then came to the bar and got the water. We told the waiter that the food was disappointing so we were surprised that 'optional' service charge was still added to the bill when it eventually came. Waited a long time to pay so went to the bar to settle up, where we again had to wait for too long. We felt uncomfortable asking for service charge to be removed because it just assumed we would pay it but both the food and service were terrible. We left feeling like our date ruined because it the experience was better, we would have stayed for the duration of the evening rather than getting out ASAP. This is definitely not a gastro pub as advertised.

Food was first class and delivered with a smile by the friendly staff. Great job

Upon our arrival we were greeted by staff and the pub manager (Tony) The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming 😊 This was the best Sunday Roast we have had in a very long time ! We ordered the beef, pork Belly and vegan wellington and were amazed with the portion size, taste and presentation. The desserts were delicious and looked amazing. Staff attended to all our requirements and we will certainly be back ! PS Only 1 question please can you make the Vegan wellingtons available for sale. Compliments to the Chef and to Laurence ! Thank you ☺️

Had lunch here with friends earlier this week. Service was very good and our main courses were all great I would have liked more custard with the crumble desert though.

We met my sister in law for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. We had booked and let them know of specific dietary requirements due to a health issue. The staff were very friendly and tried to be helpful but it was very disorganised and unprofessional. The afternoon tea was mediocre with no knowledge of the dietary requirements. The sandwiches were very disappointing made with limp soggy white bread and very limited fillings. The scones hard but the little cakes were soft and tasty. The staff were very attentive and tried hard to provide us with a nice experience despite the limitations of the food.

This has been a regular Sunday lunch place for us over the years, so we thought we'd try a Friday night dinner. Unfortunately, it didn't match expectations. We sat in a corner with shabby looking tables, and I had to go and find someone to serve us a drink. They didn't have the special advertised on the board next to our table and it was only 7 pm. The menu was limited, I didn't feel like pork, of which there were a few options. I had a burger and fries, trumpeted on the menu as a bit special. It tasted ok, but the portion was small. The fries were like leftover bits from a chopping machine. They were about 1-2 cm long. The dessert, a banoffee sundae, was a LOT of cream with a little ice cream at the bottom. The staff were friendly, but overall, the experience was disappointing and fell behind their competitors. A shame as, like I said earlier, we have been regulars in the past. We did have a voucher for 50% off mains, but I would have paid in full for a better experience. Hopefully, things will improve as I do like the place and the staff were very friendly.

Had a great experience at the Cock in Headley, popped in for a late lunch to be advised that the kitchen shut at 3 o’clock. The Manager spoke to the chef and they agreed to provide us with a meal despite believing by shut. Great choice of food and very well prepared. The meal was absolutely lovely , wonderful. The Manager and staff were very attentive and even moved us to a quieter table without us asking. To cap everything, we were then advised that there was 50% off the main course to boot ! Can’t praise the place enough, look forward to returning.

I was meeting up with a friend on Wednesday lunchtime for a drink and a small bite. When I asked if they offer sandwiches, I was told no, so we ordered the onion soup and the cauliflower dish. We didn't enjoy the soup it was to salty. The cauliflower was good though. I wonder why it shows sandwiches are available on the website when I was told no.🤔

Group of friends with dogs had a delicious, post walk, Sunday lunch here. Came because recommended by friends and it was great. Food arrived promptly, great options to choose from on the menu - 3 of us had the sirloin roast. Nice touch that extra yorkies and roast potatoes and extra gravy are offered free of charge. 2 of us had fish dishes (monk fish and fish cake). All tasted wonderful, beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Leave room for the puddings! We shared 3 between us they were to die for. Friendly and relaxing place to have very good food and even better that the dogs (well behaved mind) could join us (2 large labs and 2 spaniels) plenty of space for them to lie down by the table. (We had a round table on a raised platform at front of dining area.) We will definitely be back thanks to Tony and team!

First outing with friends in 18mths (due to health reasons). And we went for a Sunday Roast. Parking was easy and didn't need to walk too far. The place was busy which is a good sign and thankfully they gave us a corner seating area away from the crowds. Starters we got were scotch eggs and onion soup. Onion soup was a bit salty but was ok, but the scotch egg was tasty. For roasts we got beef and lamb. The beef was good and a generous portion of veg. You can get extra portions of potatoes & Yorkshire puddings complimentary. For dessert I got the crumble with custard, which was ok. Would have preferred a bit more custard and less sour tasting. It was a shout by our friends and would drop in again if I'm ever in the neighbourhood.

Went on a Friday at 3pm after doing box hill hike. Had the burgers and they were far better than I expected. Fantastic service from the staff, decent value for money so close to a touristy place. Go for the burgers!!

Had Sunday lunch with my partner, me roast and she Sea Bass. The fish and accompaniments were apparently good. My roast OK, pork a bit of a small portion, very small piece of cracking (not off a joint but backfat crackling made separately and not flavoursome) and a bit of a disappointing 4 small roasties. Was only eating functionally so not worth raising at the time with staff who were all pleasant. We eat frequently in this chain and probably this was in keeping with our previous meals in Chef & Brewer. It did seem that they had a lot of bookings arriving as we were eating and I do think portions appear to have been calculated to ensure all bookings could be covered. Also seemed from surrounding tables many items were off the menu.
