We stopped in on our way back from a walk, hoping to have a quick drink and check out the garden. I popped my head in first to check it wasn't too busy. First thing you notice is it stinks of weed. Ok fine, we'll sit outside. Walk outside to check there's a seat in the garden, all the while being stared at by the regulars at the bar. I mean STARED at, the real smirking, look you up and down kind. Really off putting, hostile first impression. I appreciate that the staff can't control the impression the customers give off, but they could compensate by being friendly, I don't know, maybe saying hello? Very strange place, slightly dilapidated, and staff that stare at you as if you've just walked, uninvited, into their living room. It's a shame, the pub has so much potential but it just felt awful. Needless to say we didn't waste our money on a drink.

Went with friends first time. Pub basically in need of refurbishment. The woman serving behind the bar with a pierced eyebrow looked like she'd been drinking more than serving. Also she was very loud and obnoxious. The food didn't look up to much either. The pub dog was hanging round while people were eating as well.

I’ve been here a few times and the garden is lovely to sit in. Tried one of their burgers and it was huge and amazing and the dog is cute. The bar staff aren’t always the best, though. HOWEVER. . last night myself and a few friends went there on a “pub crawl” around Dorking and something was COMPLETELY off in that place. The sign on the wall said they were open but the door said closed. We went in to check and there were about 6 people in there, so went in. Thinking about it now, all their curtains were shut too, which was also very strange. The bar staff took ages to get our order even though we were the only ones at the bar and the other customers were being extremely creepy. We drank our drinks as quickly as possible and got the HELL out of there, it didn’t feel right. Can no longer recommend this place, it’s super dodgy!! AVOID.

So an odd one, was almost empty when we visited on a Saturday afternoon. Lady behind the bar friendly, partner had a passionfruit cocktail which was from a tap, didn't look like the photo which was topped with a slice of passionfruit but she said tasted nice anyway. I had a beer, only one ale on tap, forget the name but it was very so so. We had a spicy veggie burger and a regular with bacon and then we waited and waited a ridiculous time, almost comical forever when it did arrive the chips nice and crunchy and the burgers looked nice, taste wise not bad but not badly priced either. Men's toilets are out the back in a separate room and aren't great but have seen worse. Good points friendly staff, food reasonably price, nice little old building and a cute, friendly spotted dog who did manage to fart a couple of times near us but ours are just as bad so didn't bother us and he was a good boy overall. Poor points being very slow on food and limited ale selection. I did however win £65 on the video slot machine whilst waiting for food so that was a nice little bonus I suppose.

We ordered two kids meals, soup and some drinks. Pub was empty when we arrived. It took ages for food to arrive, and when we got our food my 6y old asked where is the rest of the chips? Few chips, two burnt dried sausages, chicken nuggets so hard and burnt. Very disappointed with the food. I spoke to lady who served us, she did apologise and gave us refund.

Lovely time here yesterday. Welcoming staff - and dog ; while I was waiting for a friend. Very good, varied menu including, but not exclusively Sunday roast, and a number of vegetarian options. Mu friend was very impressed with his lamb curry, and I loved my ploughman's with hand carved ham. Beautiful quiet garden space with area for children, was hard to believe we were in the town centre. Gorgeous views of Denbies hillside on Ranmore. They do cocktails , and had a musician performing mid afternoon. Will definitely return when next in Surrey

Do not eat here, this bar should not be serving food. Not sure if any standards are adhered to. The Nachos were like dog food and that’s an insult to dogs. The whole experience was poor, poor tv reception for the rugby game, outside toilets that proved a lack of any cleanliness standards. This pub is an embarrassment to Dorking.

As soon as I walked into this pub, it was amazing because I was greeted by very friendly dogs. While the menu was not that diverse, it did not need to be as the atmosphere of the pub was wonderful and friendly. The people, most of whom were playing dars and I assumed to be local, were extremely welcoming. It is also worth seeing the seating area at the back of the pub. The female member of staff was absolutely lovely. She was extremely hard-working and friendly. The chicken Caesar salad was really nice and I liked the fact that the Chef added celery and it is something that I would recommend. The pub is extremely dog friendly and I liked the fact that dogs were able to wander freely around the pub. The atmosphere is great, the people are friendly and the food is really nice. ***We recently attended the place again and were quite pleased. It was very crowded and we had to sit at the bar to have a meal. We did not mind this because it was no one's fault that the pub was crowded and it wasn't bad at all being seated at the bar. It was also great to see that many people had chosen to bring their dogs to a pub. The "Dogger Burgers" also looked really nice.***

We sat outside to eat amongst the signs saying dogs must be kept on a lead only to find the pub dog wandering around not being watched and then large amounts of dog poo In several places around the children’s swing and slide. Serving staff, the younger ones wasn’t overly friendly but the more mature ladies were friendly and helpful. The food was quite nice, the gravy on the lamb shanks was like tar it was so thick but the rest of the food was good. It could be a great little family pub if the extra touches were there like cleaning up after your dog!

Visiting Dorking, popped into Spotted Dog for drink and lunch. Chose ‘Dogger Burger and Chicken Dogger Burger’. Both came with delicious chips, Shame my chicken burger tasted of nothing except a burnt Brioche Bun totally took the pleasure out of what is probably a very nice burger. Also whilst we have our own dog don’t appreciate the pub dog under my feet the whole time waiting for scraps. Sorry but definitely won’t be returning.

Ok experience, no masks at all worn inside, lack any real social distancing as people were stood up round the bar. Outside is lovely - 3 tiered garden with lots of room and tables distanced. Disappointed with the food - ordered the chorizo burger which was one and a half chorizo sausages cut in half in an oversized bun. Waiting staff didn’t know anything about the food (served it saying I don’t even know what this is). Would still go back - could just be a one off.

The only good thing about this joint is that the garden gets the sun. There's a large A-Board however as you go into the garden saying 'Dogs must be on leads beyond this point' which certainly wasn't the case; we had two dogs, one large, one small, who were begging throughout our lunch in the garden. Not sure if they were pub dogs or not, but hey, not what you want while eating. We've been here once before and we had to tell our three year old to avoid the dog poo just near their climbing frame!! The grub was expensive for what it was and the chips were those rank slimy hard ones you get by those seaside establishments who haven't changed the oil for an eternity. The rest of the food was pretty rough which reflected both the staff and the clientele. One last point: my pregnant wife went into the ladies and noted that a baby changing mat hung on the back of the loo door but there would be nowhere you could place it apart from on the filthy urine stained floor... Think this says it all really.

This is a really awful pub. Horrible, creepy old men at the bar treating the pub like their living room, watching football like zombies. It’s really wierd, do not go here if you have any standards - especially as a woman. Old drunk man actually told me to get out of his line of sight of the TV whilst I was trying to buy a beer (at the bar?!). Barman did nothing to stop this belligerent old drunk. Threatening, creepy and depressing in short. Seriously, save your time and money and go somewhere where chronic liver damage isn’t the common denominator. The Queens Head is excellent. The spotted dog is in dire need of new ownership or demolition.

No Belgian mayo with fries. Chef apologised for absence of peas as they run out and refunded us with 5 quid. Toilet is dreadful. On the picture this is one BIG sausage, equivalent on two normal. I've always thought that this looked like a "local with character", but the character I found was not what I had hoped for. The pub itself is a touch spit and sawdust ~ OK in itself for a swift half or two, but the garden, advertised outside the pub, leaves a great deal to be desired. The decking and surroundings have seen much better days and some tables are right next to the rubbish bins, but the "lawn" area is dishevelled and in need of a cut and complete tidy up ~ three or four dilapidated sheds, "stuff" just dumped and an adjacent building with smashed windows needs screening. It's a shame really, because it's in a prime location, someone had taken the trouble to plant a few new flowers, the food was good and plentiful and the bar staff were very friendly. Oh ~ and the Hog's Back TEA was fine, but I overheard another bloke in the garden say to his friend as they sat down with their pints "This is a bit of a dump!" "Absolutely" was the reply! In view of the possibility of Wetherspoons moving into Dorking, a real shake-up will be needed to beat off their competition.
