Was left standing by the entrance for a long time, when the lady behind the bar finally asked if she could help I said we had a table booked for 5.30 to which she responded ‘oh have you, that’s nice’… not sure if it was meant to be a joke but it wasn’t well received. We had put in the booking requests for a high chair but on arrival it was clear these weren’t available, this is a pretty standard thing to have and I would have appreciated a phonecall prior if they were not available as with a one year old we cannot dine somewhere without. Ended up spending £100 on (very average and not that great) meals and one or two drinks to not be enjoyed due to an extremely wriggley toddler.

We went here for lunch on Monday, great atmosphere, very friendly service, huge selection of real ales, ciders and spirits. Delicious starters of Moules, followed by a tasty Haddock and Chips and Pasta with Chicken. All very reasonably priced. Have taken their Christmas Menu and will book it up very soon! Strongly Recommended.

Google asked me to update my review... It's still my favourite local pub to which I'm loyal, but it's losing its drinker's pub charm with more of a restaurant feel creeping in. Beer choice and, more importantly, condition is slipping, hence it's lost its CAMRA status for the first time in many years. Bustling nights of excited drinkers discussing the various beers have given way to strangers dining with little interaction. It's a difficult trade to be in but I can't help that a mainstream shift in direction has resulted in a loss of distinction.

Have eaten at the Surrey Oaks a few times before but disappointed at our latest visit as the quality appears to have declined with the New Chef. The roasts are served with a big Yorkshire and large roast potatoes which were not crispy and hard in the middle, perhaps cutting them smaller would have been sensible and the small amount of Pork would have been better if not so much fat. A bit shy on the amount of vegetables served. We also had the Cod and Chips which is served on a small plate with about 10 chips which is poor value at £18.50 and looked more like a kids portion so a little disappointing how things have changed. And yes we did ask to speak with the Manager who came to our table but didn’t appear interested and just walked off.

Have been going to this pub for many many years and have always enjoyed the food, the garden and the friendly service. Took our son here today for his birthday and although most of us enjoyed our food…there were a lot of us, the roast dinners were just meh …meat not brilliant and very dry Yorkshire pud. The plate was very small too making it a hassle to cut food up without it falling off your plate. Other meals included fish and chips and burgers and all were thoroughly enjoyed though. When the bill came we were really annoyed to have been charged over £20 service charge when we had to go into the bar to order our own drinks..we were all sat in the garden so had to make a list take inside the pub and then we were told we had to order our own food at the bar again so another list had to be made for our food order. At no point did anyone come and serve us..except to carry the food to our table!! When we have been many times in the past our food order has always been taken at the table so no idea why it wasnt the case today. We left feeling disgruntled and disappointed today…which has never happened in the past. The Surrey Oaks has always been on our top 5 places to go …sadly the service let it down big time today.

Went there today for a family birthday lunch. Service poor, waited ages to be served at the bar. The table was booked for 12 people but we were presented with three tables that we had to move ourselves and the name card had the name wrong. Again waited and waited for someone to bring the menus and the meals took forever to be served, one end of the table were finished eating before the the last 3 were served . My Greek salad was just a bowl of diced cucumber few tomatoes and olives and a few pieces of onion virtually no cheese. Deserts were miniscule for the price. Definitely won't go there again

Paid an unexpected visit on Monday, during the festival so the pub was closed and it was outside bars and food trucks. Firstly the level of service was shocking and purely on this basis I would never return. Virtually every item was out of stock, and what they did have was vastly overpriced. The food truck looked just ok with burgers but they were the most anemic chips I've ever seen claiming to be cooked, again very overpriced. The seating outside was in serious need of maintenance or replacement! The only saving thing was the singer, she was really entertaining and gave great energy hence 2 stars not 1. Don't waste your money, you work hard for it and they definitely do not deserve it. *** Edit *** Thank you to the owner to try to bully me into changing my review!!!! Yes I am very aware of what an honest review can do to a business. I had seen lots of advertisements on Facebook. I now know how false/wrong they were. As a venue I wanted to visit, the experience was horrible. Deal with the honesty

Great venue, great drinks selection. Sadly, things went very badly downhill from there. Staff couldn't run a bath, and the food was very disappointing if it was available at all. Apparently, the kitchen didn't know about the new menu ??? Didn't receive a starter despite ordering one, 1st choice main wasn't available, and only part of our dessert arrived. Apparently, people can't have drinks with their food unless paid for when ordered. Bizarre!! What a massive disappointment. Most clientèle appeared to be there for a quick drink whilst they waited for their food order from the establishment opposite. Clearly wish we had done the same.

Visited on Fathers Day and food had to be pre ordered. Upon arrival, establishment looked nice and inviting. All of our party didn't arrive all at the same time. Table had been reserved for us which was great as outside. As soon as the initial guests sat down the food was served up when not everyone was there! So it was sent back. Once everyone had arrived we all looked in anticipation for our food. Sadly we had to wait an hour and quarter for our food. On two occasions we had to ask where our food was. Other patrons sat down after us and their food arrived before ours! It may have been father's day but the service was slow. I can only assume it was the manageress, whom thought we had had our food so as a gesture gave a round of drinks to us. By then it was too late to win us round. I'm sure on a good day, service is 100%! Roast dinner was excellent. If you take kids avoid fish fingers as we ordered for one of the kids. It was basically battered fish. To me it was posh fish fingers which was wasted and not eaten! Such a shame we had this experience as we are not local and won't be going back there.

Upon arrival I was greeted by another young lady who said she would check if it was ok to sit outside, then came back out with who I assume was the landlady/manager to my disgust of being spoken to like a child in front of my family to say there was no way I phoned up and booked a table they wouldn’t of taken a booking. She was rude patronising and quite frankly made me feel like a complete idiot! I have the phone record of the call to them the day before there was no apology or anything just pure rudeness. We went to the annual bank holiday beer festival, which is very popular. They restrict access to outside only but they have a very large beer garden. There are plenty of tables and chairs. The atmosphere is great with lights strung up and firepits in corners of the garden. Children and dogs are welcome. They even have a children's play area. As it is so busy the service can be a little slow but they do put on a lot of staff to accommodate. The food during the beer festival is a little limited due to the numbers they have to accommodate, but they still cater 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan dish. As it is all cooked fresh there is still a wait. The choice of ales is vast being a beer festival. They also did a couple of low/non alcoholic versions. Entry was £4 on the day and £3 pounds in advance. There is also the option of weekend passes. To keep you entertained there is a variety of live music all weekend. The limitations are parking due to the popularity. The car park is full almost immediately so you resort to parking the length of the quiet road the pub is situated on. Great country pub. Well maintained. Very popular and lovely staff.

They really went the extra mile to accommodate us. The food was nice but not brilliant, fish fingers were good, as were the chicken wings, and the roast was very good, but the burgers were ok, and should have come with skin on chips, and they were only normal French fries, also the haloumi fries were nice, but very little sauce. We busted here as it was local to where we were staying. We booked a table at 7 on 02/05/2024 when we arrived our drinks order were taken then our food order was taken which was the vegetable Thai curry with chicken, the chicken tasted like cold char grilled chicken just chucked in and the curry was just like a brown soup, we ordered more drinks after a 10 minute wait I went to the bar to see what happened to our drinks to find they had forgotten because the young girl that had taken our order was to busy talking to a table full of young lads. We asked for a desert a menu to again to wait for 5 minutes then get there attention as they had forgotten us again. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was like warm and my partner order rhubarb and apple crumble which there was a lack of apple and bowl was hotter then the contents. We had to pay a £5.95 service charge but did not get the service, a tip should be earned and not just charged. The 3 young girls that were working had no clue on people skills or how to give good service yet you had no choice but to pay for poor service!

Visited here for Sunday lunch for the first time recently. Tables very tight to each other so felt a bit on top of each other. Sat down at 2.00pm as per booking and had to ask for menus as nobody came to our table after 6-7 minutes. Sat for a further 25 minutes with menus being ignored. By 2.35 nobody had been to our table to take our order, so we told the person behind the bar we were leaving and just got an “okay” couldn’t care less response! There are times when you have such a good meal in a restaurant that you start looking around for the small things to put into a review to make it look 'balanced'. I'm sorry to disappoint you but in the case of the Surrey Oaks for Sunday lunch there were no small things. The 'big thing' was the size of the portions for the main meal. I had roast lamb (done to perfection) and my wife enjoyed the roast chicken. The vegetables were al dente (wonderful!) and the Yorkshire pudding was vast and very eatable. An then there was the gravy. Just so rich and viscous. I could still find room for an apple and rhubarb crumble and wife enjoyed her ice creams. Total bill around £50 with no alcoholic drinks. What else to say. The parking area is vast, and there was room on the road outside for a coach and four Shire horses, joined later by a coach and two. That's also an indication of how little traffic there was on the road. It's that sort of pub. There are a number of comments in the reviews below about the level of service. We found the service to be responsive with a lot of smiles even though there was a party of eight and a party of twelve. Very decent wine list. The pub is around 15 minutes from Horsham, Dorking and Reigate and we thought it was a) absolutely worth the drive and b) absolutely worth planning to return ASAP Ah. Just remembered a small thing - sharper knives please.

Out with friends and family looking for the best Sunday roast. Our first outing took us to the Surrey Oaks a traditional country pub, it was busy when we arrived and we were seated at a large table in the low ceilinged old section of the pub. The roast selection was great 3 meats on offer and a veggie roast option. As it was busy the service was a little slow but the atmosphere and company made up for the waiting time. The roast was good perhaps a little too big (tried the trio meat roast). The Yorkshire puddings were a little too crispy, but the veg selection was good. For those who could make space (kids mainly) the deserts were really good, plenty of choice. Slightly more expensive than their peers, but on a par for quality of food. Altogether a very pleasant afternoon.

We came here 'on spec' for Sunday lunch. It was exceptionally good. No problem with lack of booking, friendly attentive service without being overwhelming, great food with substantial portions - full choice of roasts, but also an imaginative list of starters & desserts. Convivial atmosphere and excellent value for money. One review said the service was slow - it's not, it's just relaxed, and just right for a Sunday lunchtime.

Really enjoyed excellent food in a beautiful pub. Burgers and halloumi for mains, and crumble and ice cream for desert. Brilliant.

Thoroughly enjoyed a mid week meal there as part of a large group. It was a high quality 3 course meal with very friendly and efficient staff. Would go again.

Went for a light lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. Place was lively with all outside seating taken. Order taken at bar and food served briskly even though there were many people dining. We both had bacon and brie baguettes and they were very tasty and well presented. Would like to see some more local ales on offer but that is am observation not a criticism. A local pub for me and I will return regularly. This place does things right.

The beer was superb as always and the staff were friendly. Sadly though there was a 1.5 hour wait on food (that we weren't warned about). The pub wasn't especially busy but there were plenty of phone orders coming through. Perhaps the pub should have prioritised customers in the premises over taking additional phone orders that clearly they couldn't cope with. A shame.

Went here for a Roast on Sunday it was absolutely gorgeous!!! The meats were cooked to perfection. Never had such tender pork (only ordered for crackling) it literally melted in the mouth. Beef was perfect, charred ends, rendered fat and med rare in the middle. Roast potatoes were a bit of a let down... needed another 30 mins on high, but overall it deserves 5 stars and one of the best locally, from Charlwood to Dorking👍👍

A gorgeous, cosy pub with a lot of history. If you want to sample a traditional pub atmosphere and feel like you could have stepped back in time this is the place for you. Staff were friendly and dealt well with the large number of people waiting to be served.

Lovely atmosphere, the live band were amazing and the sharing plates delicious. Tip - parfait needs to thaw a bit before serving, coffee cups were too full and spilled. Apart from that an enjoyable evening. Will definitely be back.
