Very quiet pub, but the food and service was excellent. Lots of parking opposite.

Stopped in last minute for a Sunday roast after a long walk on the North Downs. Cannot say enough positives about this pub. Staff were delightful. Starter, main and dessert all fantastic. Standout parts for me were the whitebait (easily the best I have ever had), perfectly cooked beef and the unbelievable roast potatoes. We were also sat in front of the roaring fire. Felt like being round a relative's for a very cosy meal. My mrs was in the car with our baby son for a bit at the start as well as he was sleeping when we arrived and the owner made a point of coming over to assure us that there was no rush, which meant another pint for me in peace... Everyone was a winner. 10/10 on all aspects and will certainly be returning. Thank you.

Had Sunday lunch here and we were all impressed with the variety of food available. All had different choices and no one was left hungry! Easy parking and good service. Friendly staff and despite a previous review, we found the manager to be a courteous and likeable fellow!

Have been quite a few times now and the staff behind the bar are always welcoming and friendly which should really be a key focus. The manager unfortunately always seems very grumpy, never smiles or says hello and is usually muttering something negative about someone which is a shame, the atmosphere does seem to dwindle when he is around. Could have so much potential as a local pub with more events and a bit of modernisation. Menu is quite standard and quality isn't fantastic but good for a sandwich or some chips. As the only pub in walking distance to so many locals it would be beautiful to see it thrive with a more positive fresh energy from management.

Me and my wife are new to the area. Popped in for a pint. The locals are wonderful! Had a great chat about the history of the area. The bar staff were friendly or just wanted to go home but we don't blame them. It was fun and that's all we'll take from it. Reasonable drink prices. Glad to be a part of the neighbourhood! P.s. sorry lady who was serving us but totally understand. Happy 2024 and hope you get a break :D

Stopped in on passing today,great pint of guiness and a few Surrey Ales on aswell hidden gem of a pub.

Really lovely. I visited this afternoon with a friend for an impromtu Sunday lunch and was really impressed. Facilities-wise and atmosphere-wise it's fairly basic, but it was warm and festive with a nice fireplace. The food was really lovely. The slow roasted lamb shank in particular was very delicious.

Disappointed didn’t feel like value for money, portions didn’t feel that large for the price Sunday roast served till 5 pm we ate at 2.30pm Limited vegetables must have run out of roasts as roasts and boiled potatoes mixed on plate. Veg very boring just a few carrots and some cabbage Beef tasty but a bit tough, chicken served on the bone - not breast No extras like stuffing , sausages with chicken etc Yorkshire pudding and gravy lovely. Staff nice but seemed short staffed

Probably the tastiest roast chicken I've ever eaten in my life. Wonderful crispy roast potatoes, cabbage and vegetables cooked to perfection.

Another lovely meal in the Royal Oak. Thursday night special. I chose the steak and my partner chose the Gammon accompanied with a nice bottle of red wine. Steak was cooked exactly to my liking. Compliments to the chef and to Adrian and Calum.

great food. all homemade. We had the pie with lovely seasonal veg. very nice staff. On Thursday it is 2 for 1 on Mains.

Cycling club placed a preorder for food at 8pm. We turned up 1/2 hour early and I paid for my food while buying drinks. Save me going back in again later. Said I was happy for food to come out with everyone else’s. Next thing I know, angry landlord brings my food out early and has a go at me because his kitchen can’t cope with me paying for it before I eat it, or something. No apologies. Just a case of here’s your food. Eat it now. Or don’t. Like anyone gives a toss. So I did. And it was pretty rank. Edit: You’re right, we were there at 8.30, not 7.30. My apologies. Not “disingenuous.” Just a simple mistake. Still, I recall standing at the bar asking you to bring it out with everyone else’s. Just as the rest of the club turned up to order their drinks and pay for their food. The way you came out with just my plate and blamed me for the error in the kitchen was unacceptable. You seriously need rewriting if you think that’s “service.” Noted, you managed to bring everyone else’s food at the same time so maybe you’re being disingenuous with any problems with staffing in the kitchen? As for an opportunity to offer alternative food. I’m not sure you had any alternative vegetarian options.

Had a drink on our way back to our caravan. Sat out in the garden. Reasonably priced.

Had Sunday roast here with friends, was delicious, well cooked. Service was prompt and with a smile. Reasonably priced.

Nice countryside pub with a decent selection of lagers, ales and Guinness. Also do a Sunday roast with a selection of meats on offer which are delicious. A good place to stop after a long walk.

The venue is beautiful , and it's well set up inside , the staff are welcoming and friendly, I stopped by on Friday as we usually come in after the nuts challenge, but be warned its a bit pricey on par with inner London price (Yet you can still get pints of beer in London for under £4), there seemed to have been a considerable increase in prices. £4 for a coke feels like robbery , and it made us not want to return after nuts.

It was surprisingly very nice. The look from the front is a bit disappointing but once you get in the service is ok and the food is nice but not enough

I have just had an amazing takeaway roast dinner. Not only was it prompt and collection was so easy and friendly but it was delicious. Moving house, packing and lack of time meant I couldn’t eat in. Wish I had now. Thanks so much folks. This was great

We had a fantastic meal a no fuss well cooked Sunday roast was absolutely delicious. And the pudding oh wow! The staff were lovely really accommodating as we had our young daughter with us and they catered for her needs too. It’s evident the owners are bringing back the country pub with good beer and excellent food. Looking forward to returning again soon. Thank you .

Nice country pub, very clean and welcoming. Staff were very polite and accommodating. Sunday roast was not as good as expected small portions, not informed of service charges before meal so was not happy with not given the choice of paying that. Overall only 2stars.

First visit here left me disappointed as we were charged £4 more than the already expensive prices for just two pints and a soft drink. When later challenged, after asking about the price of each item, the difference was refunded without explanation.

It’s great to see small local country pubs like this have survived the last few years. We went for lunch after a walk via The Deepdene Trail. Friendly welcome, good service, the food was proper good pub food. Veggie lasagne & garlic bread Burger and chips Fish and chips Cheese and pickle baguette All excellent and tasty. Nice outside area looking over fields. Will be back next time we are down that way.

Beverly is a very nice bubbly lady the food is great , portions are good staff are very friendly nice atmosphere I would recommend this pub to anyone for a good place to eat, I will go again.

Excellent dinner (1 x rump steak and 1 x Chicken & Mushroom pie), followed by the vest home-made trifle we have had in a very long time.

It certainly isn't a gastro pub but does the basics , food and beer , well and had an enjoyable hour.

Had z beef roast and burger & chips, good value for money, plenty of beef and the burger was v good quality.

Have driven past a few times and it seemed fairly popular, maybe because of the Sunday roast advert that always catches my eye. But this evening it was Wednesday, about 8:30. Very few people about but doing food so we stopped. Host very genial, menu seemed fine and the 8oz steak and a gammon were very tasty. Nice pint of Guinness too. Seemed to have a large beer garden (I wasn't really paying attention), and parking across the (not very busy) road. A handy getaway not far from Dorking. Proper decent pub.

Outdoor seating with table service - unfortunately, the table service was an exceptionally long wait to order drinks, which were overpriced, (£4 for a coke!) especially considering the coffee tasted like old stale coffee beans and the cup had visible dirt around the inside. Setting and building were nice though.

Had a takeaway roast. We had one beef and one pork. They came with lots of lovely vegetables and roast potatoes all smothered in a very good gravy. Portions were very generous and everything was freshly prepared by the chef so even the crackling was very good although we had a 10 minute drive home

Just tried a take away roast chicken dinner , SUPERB ! Perfectly cooked , I live 10 minutes away and potatoes were still nice and crispy and everything remained nice and hot . Please give it a try for yourselves , not only will you be supporting local businesses but saves the washing up , the landlord was a really welcoming bloke ..I seriously can't recommend enough .

The Royal Oak Sunday lunch take away is excellent. We have tried all the options ...lamb, chicken, beef and pork (and turkey on Christmas Day). The food is consistently good - just as it is when the restaurant is open.

The highly recommendable Sunday roast at the Royal Oak is just as well cooked and presented as a takeaway. We had roast lamb and roast chicken and a couple of pints of draft bitter; all excellent as usual. A great treat during lockdown 2.

We had a take away roast, we have eaten here many times before. Even in lockdown they managed to do fantastic roasts. Fully encourage to try

My partner and I went for Sunday lunch. Food was OK, priced accordingly and a good atmosphere. That said, there were only 2 members of staff serving the entire pub for food and drinks. They were trying but things took ages. We’d go again but as long as the COVID-19 restrictions are in place, be prepared to wait!

We had been to the military show that was on and was heading home and saw the sign for this pub on the main road, well what a great find this was.A beautiful fresh home cooked roast dinner. We had our two children with us which even they said this pub scores a 10 !! The lady serving us was lovely and very kind, felt very welcomed. Definitely will come back if in the area in the future!

Our walking group had lunch there last Friday after a couple of visits in the past. As usual we were pleased with our local choice. Lunches were good value and excellent. Shame we chose beforehand as would have had one of the crab dishes from daily specials. Should really visit a bit more often.

We have driven passed this pub a lot of times on way to Dorking and it always looks like a traditional pub, so we popped in here recently for a pub lunch. Nice welcome when we arrived, log fire on the go, small menu for brunch/lunch but it had most of the things needed for a pint and bite to eat. Food was freshly prepared and tasty. Restaurant and tables are separate from the bar and darts, so quite a good mix.

Booked here as its halfway for meeting our friends. Great choice ! Had a beautiful welcome and was immediately shown to our table. The lady serving us was very friendly and very good in dealing with our requests. We had beef and lamb roasts between us and they were all served hot, the roasted potatoes and yorkshire pudding were beautiful. We had Sticky Toffee puddings and Lemon Meringue which were to die for. Will definitely return! Great place, great food with even better service with a smile.

It is a quite pub. Drive to this pub was good as you can see in the picture. Outside seating is good with a beautiful landscape. Sufficient parking space. If you are done with crowded places and want a quite and serene atmosphere then this is the place for you.

Only a short walk for us, lovely food and staff, place for kids to play in garden.
