This is my sister and I second visit as we couldn't resist making another visit. A real, old, traditional feel to the pub, it is an absolute delight. We have only sampled the calamari (delicious), each time with a side order of chips, but both were very good, and reckon the chips are some of the best we have ever had. Cat's cooking and presentation is superb, and Harvey a charming and solicitous waiter. We can't wait to return.

Horrible stressful experience - ignorant manager although understand pub is family owned who in front of customers rushed around letting everyone know two members of staff had rung in sick today - I wonder why !!! Made one mistake after the other with table bookings and showed little respect towards his staff in the horrible way he spoke to them . What was meant to be an enjoyable afternoon having a quiet drink we were only too glad to leave such an environment.

Great spot, and friendly staff, but the owners really need to do up the place. The garden is a mess with just stuff lying around. Only one outdoor heater worked. Ash trays hadn't been cleared. The Shere beer had a odd taste like dirty pipes/wasn't fresh. Just gone downhill.

A warm lunchtime welcome having walked from Rykas. Glad to be offered the table near the log burner. Toasty! Very friendly waitress. Good pint of guest ale from By the Horns. I had the roast duck leg with rich gravy, the kids opted for burgers with chips. One cherry pie, one apple crumble for pudding. Both delicious. Very pleased, will definitely be back!

We dropped in for a pre-Christmas dinner with some friends and went with the Sunday Roast. Absolute 10/10 meal, everything on the plate was delicious. What's even more impressive is that our waitress told us that one of the chefs named Hayden had just started today. Great service, great food and lovely old pub. The only thing I regret is not coming sooner!

One of the best pub meals I've had for a long time. I had a steak and ale pie with veg, and the best gravy I've ever tasted, accompanied by a well kept pint of Surrey Hills Shere Drop. Efficient, polite service from the young man serving, and a cosy bar with a fire on a dreich day. The prices were reasonable for this part of the world and it felt good to support a truly independent pub.

Lovely location and great views. We used to be regulars but find that the food is inconsistent and a bit overpriced. The biggest issue we have with the place though is how badly the owner speaks to his staff and customers. He can be very rude and I’ve had to bite my tongue a couple of times to avoid a situation.

One of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had - the shoulder of lamb was superb. Dessert (apple crumble) was good but a little lacking in flavour (possibly down to the apples or how they were cooked). Still very happy with my meal! Quaint, traditional pub with friendly and warm service. Open fire on cold nights and a beautiful view from the garden. Will definitely go back!

The King William IV is a very pretty pub, just off the A24 close to Mickleham. It was built in 1790 as an estate workers ale house for Cherkley Court, which now is Beaverbrook golf course. The building itself is quite unusual, being multi-level as it is built on the side of a steep hill. The garden is terraced and the stunning view up to Norbury Park, make it one of Surrey's most attractive beer gardens! They sell some excellent local beer in very good condition! I've not eaten there for a long time but from what I've seen going on with the food, it looks very good. Something I'm not a fan of, which puts me off going more often, is the mandatory table service. This is no reflection on the staff, who are swift and friendly but I'm a bit old fashioned and just don't like faff and people fussing over me. The pub doesn't have a lot of standing room, the bar itself is small and the staff get very busy with food service; so it makes perfect sense if it's a group or you're ordering food/getting repeat drinks orders during a meal, to be served at table. However, in my case, I'm just there for the beer, either solo or in a pair and would really prefer to just buy a pint or two at the bar at take a seat! Instead, you have to be seated and given a menu, then they return for your order, come back with the drink/s, turning into a forth visit with change, should you wish to pay with cash. Bit of a rigmarole for a pint! That's just my personal gripe but this is a lovely pub worth visiting!

I have never left a review but this place is just incredible!!! I highly recommend! I came for the first time for Sunday lunch with family and despite it being incredibly busy and us not having booked we were treated with warmth. The waitresses were so lovely, smiley and attentive. The chefs were great- we had the lamb, a gluten free lamb, roast beef and risotto; the lamb was so delicious, the roast potatoes were crunchy and fluffy and the gluten free roast had gluten free gravy! The beef and risotto were also delicious! The manager was also proactive and helpful! The only down side is that it’s a difficult building to traverse with a physical disability- but that is just as it’s an old building. Thank you so much everyone working on 29/09/24 you did a fantastic job and I will definitely be coming back!!!

Wonderful location, atmosphere and fantastic service. Most of the food for the table of 7 was first class. Salads were delicious, excellent burgers (chicken and beef), very generous filling in the wonderful prawn sandwich. Only the beef nachos where there was room for improvement. Beef was excellent and lots of it but it needed something else to add texture, moisture and freshness, some guacamole or salsa or both was needed. An excellent lunch and the service was perfect, wonderful staff.

This is an excellent and weel worth suppoting. The tea is served in the Victoriam conservatory. The cost is £6.50 a head for a scone, jam and cream with unlimited tea of coffee. Most enjoyable. The only minor downside is the start time of 2 o'close which for us is far too early 3 o;clock for tea would suit us much better and this is the only point thatwill stop us returning

Though service was good, the food was piled up on the plate in one pile, the potatoes were hard and not freshly made ie reheated. The dessert had been heated too much and the bowls it came in had food on the outside of the bowl
