The King William IV in Dorking is a true gem! Perched on a hill with stunning views, this cosy pub offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is top-notch – hearty, well-cooked, and full of flavour. The selection of beers and ales is excellent, making it a great spot for both casual drinks and a proper meal. Whether you’re visiting for a Sunday roast or just a pint by the fire, this place never disappoints. Highly recommended!

Guinness was watery and flat. Drinks took 30 minutes to come. All 3 of us got the beef burger. You could get a better burger at brockham badgers football tournament. Sub par at best. Waited 30 minutes for bill just to be told they forgot.

Lovely cosy pub with a gorgeous outside area! Quite disappointed with the BLT sandwich as it was very basic with not much bacon inside for a steep £13! Would have preferred it to be on white bread not brown wholemeal.

The king William at mickleham is one of Surreys hidden secrets, the food is truly outstanding. A friend and I arrived on a perfectly ordinary evening and have venison pie, red cabbage, baby potatoes, amazingly tasty and well cooked. The atmosphere is old and cranky, the staff are charming. An unforgettable experience, looking forward to the next time.

This is such a wonderful place hidden beside the highway. We came from the Running Horses pub in the afternoon because they don’t serve food until 5:30 PM. Before coming, we called the King William restaurant and were assured the food is served all day. The menu is very creative, and our dishes blended different cuisines. We loved everything and ended our meal with affogato. The kid was happy with the kids menu and ice cream. Overall, the staff is very polite, and the food is delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Considering the price and quality, definitely worth a visit!

The perfect quirky English pub, tucked away up a narrow country lane (parking a slight challenge). We found a genuine warm welcome for our whole family (toddler and small dog included) after a walk on Box Hill. Service was bright and charming at the table with just the right amount of attentive. A shared aperitif of cheesy chips and halloumi took the edge off and the Sunday roast appeared shortly afterwards. My Chicken was great and the silence and empty plates at the end of the main course a testimony to great food. The cinnamon apples really deserved a proper home cooked buttery crumble, but all in all a great end to a lovely day.

This is my sister and I second visit as we couldn't resist making another visit. A real, old, traditional feel to the pub, it is an absolute delight. We have only sampled the calamari (delicious), each time with a side order of chips, but both were very good, and reckon the chips are some of the best we have ever had. Cat's cooking and presentation is superb, and Harvey a charming and solicitous waiter. We can't wait to return.

Horrible stressful experience - ignorant manager although understand pub is family owned who in front of customers rushed around letting everyone know two members of staff had rung in sick today - I wonder why !!! Made one mistake after the other with table bookings and showed little respect towards his staff in the horrible way he spoke to them . What was meant to be an enjoyable afternoon having a quiet drink we were only too glad to leave such an environment.

One of the best pub meals I've had for a long time. I had a steak and ale pie with veg, and the best gravy I've ever tasted, accompanied by a well kept pint of Surrey Hills Shere Drop. Efficient, polite service from the young man serving, and a cosy bar with a fire on a dreich day. The prices were reasonable for this part of the world and it felt good to support a truly independent pub.

Lovely location and great views. We used to be regulars but find that the food is inconsistent and a bit overpriced. The King William IV is a very pretty pub, just off the A24 close to Mickleham. It was built in 1790 as an estate workers ale house for Cherkley Court, which now is Beaverbrook golf course. The building itself is quite unusual, being multi-level as it is built on the side of a steep hill. The garden is terraced and the stunning view up to Norbury Park, make it one of Surrey's most attractive beer gardens! They sell some excellent local beer in very good condition! I've not eaten there for a long time but from what I've seen going on with the food, it looks very good. Something I'm not a fan of, which puts me off going more often, is the mandatory table service. This is no reflection on the staff, who are swift and friendly but I'm a bit old fashioned and just don't like faff and people fussing over me. The pub doesn't have a lot of standing room, the bar itself is small and the staff get very busy with food service; so it makes perfect sense if it's a group or you're ordering food/getting repeat drinks orders during a meal, to be served at table. However, in my case, I'm just there for the beer, either solo or in a pair and would really prefer to just buy a pint or two at the bar at take a seat! Instead, you have to be seated and given a menu, then they return for your order, come back with the drink/s, turning into a forth visit with change, should you wish to pay with cash. Bit of a rigmarole for a pint! That's just my personal gripe but this is a lovely pub worth visiting!

A Most Precarious Repast at The Old House at Home There are few things in life as sacred as a well-poured drink and a sturdy table upon which to set it. Imagine my horror, then, upon entering The Old House at Home, only to find myself dining not in stately comfort but in a state of perpetual imbalance. One reserves a table with the reasonable expectation that it will, at the very least, stand firm beneath one’s elbows. Alas, what I was met with was a rickety, quivering contraption, trembling at the mere suggestion of movement. My fellow diners and I found ourselves locked in a silent contest of steadiness, each lifting a fork with the precision of a bomb disposal expert, lest we send our glasses skidding into oblivion. To make matters worse, this architectural affliction was not limited to my table alone; no, the neighbouring furniture appeared to share in this affliction, as if the entire room were engaged in some grand, lumbering waltz. A wonky table is not mere inconvenience—it is an insult to the art of dining, a sign of neglect so egregious that one wonders whether management has mistaken rustic charm for outright disrepair. One does not expect to endure a siege upon one’s senses simply to enjoy a meal. A man should be free to place his drink upon a table without fear that it may betray him. Until this most elementary of expectations is met, The Old House at Home shall remain, at best, a folly; at worst, a farce.

The food was good, the service was not! Went as a family and basically got rushed off to leave as they had another booking. We didn’t get asked if we wanted pudding (which we actually did want pudding). The lady brought the bill over and stood there (desperate for us to leave). Never known anything like it to be honest, it really let the restaurant down, such a shame as the food was nice.
