Watermill Inn in Mole Valley

Booked online, lunch for 4 people - no problems. Pub was not too busy.Drinks: white wine + lemonade came without the lemonade. Pint of IPA was only just drinkable but definitely a bit off - threw some away in the garden but didn't complain to avoid fussing in company. Main meals: Scampi and chips, nice. Burger and chips, nice. Myself and my wife had fish and chips - my fish was grey and as tough as an india rubber inside. Clearly overcooked. My wife's was a bit better and she persevered with it. I complained and had scampi instead which was fine. We had coffees afterwards which were OK but I like drinks hot and they would have been better a bit hotter. We had been here several times pre-covid without problems so this was a bit disappointing. Staff were all polite and attentive to their credit.Might have another go soon and will make allowances after a difficult period. The chalkboard behind us did ask to leave a review on Tripadvisor!!

Literally just got back from our meal prior to going into Tier 3 lockdown tomorrow.First of all I booked online and only 17:00 slot available - which is a bit too early for us so I tried phoning at noon to see if we could have a later slot. Automated message and unable to speak with a human being. Automated message said to leave a message and someone would phone me back - they never did so we had to go at 17:00.2nd point - asked for my pint of Peronni to be topped up as it as a short measure. Server returned to our table with the same amount of lager saying that it was a full measure - it wasn't and isn't. I was told that the red 'marker' on the Peronni glass was the pint marker - it isn't.3rd point - people eating out in the garden despite it raining. Every time the door was open, we found ourselves sitting in a draught.4th point - both main meals were tepid and could have done with a quick blitz in a microwave.5th point - we had a really nice meal the previous week and that is why we returned. However, we won't be in any hurry post lockdown to return. Couldn't be arsed to top up a short measured pint? Bear in mind that it's likely that some of their draught beer and lager will probably be thrown away. Oh - and it was also disappointing as it was supposed to be a late birthday meal due to the previous lockdown (22nd November).

Booked a table for Sunday dinner in the bar area. Arrived to a lovely welcome by friendly staff. Food was served promptly and was excellent, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Very effective social distancing measures in place. We were served by Kerry, Edie, Josh and Keira. Flawless, attentive service and great food. Highly recommended.

Great Festive Set Menu, really enjoyed the meal, decorations look classy and understated. Team were happy and friendly. Definitely recommend!!

My partner and I had a fantastic meal last night! We were greeted by the really friendly Kayleigh who took our drinks orders and made sure they came right away. I ordered the roast turkey from the Festive Menu which was delicious (I just wish there was parsnips!) and my partner who was avoiding gluten got a lovely dish from the main menu. Our servers Georgia and Kiera were super helpful, polite and on the ball the whole night. The cleaning and table distancing was of a very high standard so we felt really safe the whole evening. Thanks so much to the team for a great night!

On way home from work I decided to pop in for a quick coffee before hitting the road, the team were very friendly and welcoming they sat me down and without realising up sold me to a burger meal haha.The food came out very quick, the burger was juicy and flavoursome.Amazing random stop, and coffee was good to.I would suggest for anybody going to make sure you pop out the rear of the building to see the amazing view of the Surrey hills, breath taking

My sister and I had lunch at The Watermill, one of our favourites pubs. We felt safe and had a wonderful meal. the reason for me writing is that our lovely waitress Helena went over and above to help us and make us feel relaxed.Helena is really and asset to the team.Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Great food and atmosphere despite obvious restrictions currently in place, service was just excellent too. Mixed grill twice in a month - fantastic!

Booked a table last minute after busy day at Chessington with the kids. Kids 9 & 10 were tired and squabbling. Waitress patient and kind. Food was fab, wine was even better 😊. All COVID precautions in place. 5 mins walk from travelodge. Thank you

We had a impromptu visit to the Watermill Inn where the team welcomed us and even though we hadn’t booked, they found us a table. The service (we were served by Layna) was absolutely faultless, the food was really great and the staff were constantly cleaning, sanitising and ensuring all customers felt safe, we will definitely return.

Had a lovely welcome through the front door. Covid safety in full swing. Pleasant staff. And a big thank you too to the kitchen staff. Head chef Tony for making our meals special. Roast beef rib literally fell of the bone. Gorgeous. Definitely will come back in the future

Four friends meeting for a social meal enjoyed friendly service (Layna) and found the Covid-19 arrangements efficient. The meals were standard Chef and Brewer fare, properly served and excellent value. Three of the group had coupons for a free cocktail - so even better value. We shall return.

Haven't been to The Watermill Inn for a few years but returned this week with friends. Had a good meal, cooked well and presented nicely. Service was good too so well worth a visit

First visit back to the Watermill since lockdown ended and not disappointed. Nice warm surroundings and nice welcome from staff on entering. Explained guidelines etc as they operate in the restaurant. Food both tasty and substantial. We had the soup and Stilton mushrooms to start and both had the slow cooked lamb to follow. Sadly no room for puddings. But that’ll wait till next time. Thanks Helena our server and all the team including the chef and kitchen team whose roles are often overlooked

This Inn is situated at the base of Box hill on the reigate road just a short distance from the dorking Cock roundabout. It has great views across to box hill and the surrounding countryside. On my visit we sat inside due to the weather, wet and cold, but with a window seat at the rear to see the views.Service was prompt for orders and courteous. There is a large menu of Pies, steaks, burgers and many other pub type favourites. Good selection of ales and soft drinks.Together with the throw away menus and the very efficient and almost constant wiping and cleaning after customers it was a very safe feeling anti Covid environment.For food I had a Signature Barbecue beef burger, which has ends of reel beef joint on a thick beefy burger, with BBQ sauce, (although not enough sauce for me)with chips, onion rings and a small salad, very good. Others had pies, like Chicken and woodland mushroom, quite a hard crust cut through, and Steak and red wine, was exceptionally hot, but all good. Each pie was individual and I guess made elsewhere and finally cooked in an oven or microwave.Plenty of parking.Overall the service and food was good and happy to go again.

I looked up several recipe books, they were consistent in saying a risotto contains Arborio or short grain rice, butter or cream, stock or white wine, plus other ingredients such as onion, saffron, Parmesan cheese, depending on eg where in Italy the recipe came from.My risotto used NONE of these, it was boiled (wrong again) long grain rice.It had peas, beans, tasteless salad greens, and ricotta cheese that tasted rancid.Just awful for £11.99, and I think against the Trade Descriptions Act.

Specials on offer were a fantastic variety. We had garlic prawns and peri peri chicken. Honestly it was a great meal! Hope to try the lamb next week! Great service as usual.

My partner and I have never been before but it is a really lovely pub, great service and the food is amazing. I can recommend the liver pate and the chocolate and raspberry dessert.

Since my last review here a few months ago have visited a few times since.thought we x4 would try the Sunday roast again x4 turkey. As usual it was hot, plentiful, and tasted great, the menu is a great selection and try the sticky toffee pudding, for me it’s the best I’ve ever had, staff were pleasant best to Pre book here,must admit this place for Sunday lunch is 5* I can’t fault it, we travel 20 miles here and it’s well worth it.

After lock down l visited the Watermill Inn Dorking and having driven past for years but never visited I was so impressed with the service Tara gave us as well as the food which was delicious, a varied menu with lots of choice and the CHIPS!.....If all of the above wasn’t enough, we sat on the patio and the views over Box Hill in the background were superb it was like being a fly on the wall in Jane Austin’s Emma.Try it.

Called in to our nearest to mid-way point, Greene King on way back from Bognor Regis going to Northampton Dorking Watermill gave a good welcome after a strenuous day. Tara was our host and kept an eye on our meal progress. .Nice homemade steak and kidney pie, and beef lasagne, mini pudding coffees. Will go again.

Our waitress Edie was very welcoming. The tables were well distanced and I was impressed at how the staff were busy cleaning different areas of the restaurant. The food was well presented and I would happily return in the not too distant future.

Excellent service and excellent food. The staff here were brilliant and took extra measures to make customers feel at ease by socially distancing tables and making sure all areas were constantly sanitised. Our waitress Edie was lovely and made our meal very enjoyable. Would defiantly recommend.

Had an awesome evening. Our server Georgia was phenomenal. Good service and the available food off the menu was good. A bit disappointing as the reason my wife and I chose this place was that they had a full menu online, but on coming here was told that many dishes were unavailable as they were out of stock due to the “ eat out to help out”. Nevertheless had a great time and the service was faultless.

Was at the watermill for a meal Last week with a friend. We had prawn cocktail and the lamb which was delicious. Was particularly impressed by level of service. We were served by Tara who was friendly and attentive. Felt well looked after and shall be definitely returning. I’ve been here twice in the past two weeks. Each time we have had a lovely meal. The service is excellent from the minute you walk in. Very efficiently run by the managers there. The food is lovely. Yesterday we had the roast specials. They were well presented, hot, lovely quality meat and veg.Highly recommended. We shall be back again and again. Hope the people there carry on as they make the place.

I’m not one for usually leaving reviews but due to the service we received on the 29th I felt it needed.The restaurant was very nice and clean and felt safe and welcome from the start. All precautions were put in place due to COVID-19. Tara was looking after us and she could not of done more. We had a very fussy eater in our party and Tara went above and beyond for them. You can tell she enjoys her job and she made the experience for us one to remember. Overall a really nice meal out, great food, great customer service so will definitely be visiting again.

Food was good. Didn’t have any Pravha on tap which was a let down but the chicken goujons made up for it. Good for the price bracket

Was a little apprehensive about visiting a restaurant; the first time since lockdown. On arrival was greeted by very pleasant and smiling staff. Shown to my table and everything was explained clearly and cheerfully by my waitres , Tara. Tara was attentive and charming without being overbearing. All in all a good experience which I would have no hesitation in repeating.

Just had a family meal here and it was delicious. If you like meat, I just had the mixed grill and it was awesome. Steak, gamon, chicken and sausage cooked to perfection. Tara and her colleague looked after us and were so lovely and pleasant. Thanks Watermill, we can't wait to return. x

We had lunch here on a wet day in August. The food was of good quality but the portions were on the small side. The service was very slow even though the number of diners was restricted. I was disappointed to notice how dirty the toilet doors were. Surely in these times of a national pandemic cleaning should be the number one priority.

Our recent visit to the Watermill Inn was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. All the required measures to ensure customer and staff safety were in place and the staff were extremely helpful, courteous and efficient. Our dedicated waitress, Millie, could not have been more helpful. Also, the food that we all had was absolutely delicious. A really lovely experience. Thank you.

Slightly anxious about getting back out and eating out in the current pandemic I decided to try the Watermill, where I'd be a few times before but a while back. The setting is amazing with a lovely garden and a nice inside eating area.I didn't need to worry about being anxious - I was met by a very smiley and polite Joshua at the door and he showed me to a table - all the tables were well spaced out. Joshua then explained all the precautions they had in place for making sure diners and staff were kept safe.I started with the crispy squid and then had a burger - all excellent, nicely cooked, well presented, not rushed but not slow either - just right.And at the end I was directed to the bar, which had a screen, to make payment, again looked after by Joshua.I will definitely be returning.

Have used the Watermill for years and have always been pleased with both the good food and the personnel. We were a bit wary of going back in these unusual circumstances. No problem the same excellent food (made even better by Rishi Sunaks generous contribution) but the outstanding part of our visit was the attention and care given by the staff they made an excellent meal into an occasion. Well done.

We have visited the watermill a few times in these strange situations and could not be happier with the cleanliness, the amount of PPE used, friendly happy staff, the food + drink is lovely and great choice to choose from and how welcoming they are towards dogs my dogs absolutely loves visiting the watermill thank you again to everyone at the watermill

Today, I ate there for the first time since before Christmas. There were 6 of us around a large table. As before, the food was excellent and reasonably priced (especially reasonably priced due to the half-price eat-out encouragement from the government). All anti-covid measures possible were taken including all staff wearing visors.I had "Signature Hunter's Chicken"; this comprised nicely-glazed large pieces of chicken, a generous chunk of gammon steak accompanied by triple-cooked chips, onion rings and salad (full price £13.49). It was delicious. My companions had variously "Signature Fish and Chips"(£13.79), Whitby "Scampi" (£11.99) and "Slow-Cooked Pork Belly" (£13.99) - all reported to be very good. We were all too full even to consider a pudding!!Even the continuous rain failed to dampen our enjoyment of the meal. The staff, as usual, were friendly and professional. I've recommended this establishment following every visit and I continue to do so.

I came into the water mill inn recently with a group of friends and had a lovely experience. We were seated by a man named josh who told us everything we needed to know about the layout of the pub and social distancing etc. Pub was very clean The view from the garden is amazing . Food was great!! Will definitely be back.

Brought my mum and step dad for a meal here as myself and my husband visit regularly and are always guaranteed a amazing meal and friendly staff. Today we were served by a young lady called Tara who was the most loveliest, friendliest person who served us with a big smile and made sure we were well looked after! Our food didn’t disappoint! Was delicious! Best place in Dorking in our opinion!

A table of six, 3 three of the dishes ordered were not available. Child's pasta served 40 minutes before the adult meals. Waited 1 hour 45 minutes for mains to be served. Silly little niggles Prime beef burger ordered but gourmet burger served (twice the price) No sourdough croutons in salad, as advertised. All sounds pretty pathetic but it does spoil the experience. Staff were very nice but lacked a Manager or someone in charge to take command.

Just coming out of the Covid lockdown things were bound to be a little difficult. Service very slow. No drinks served, one of us had to go to the bar each time. Food very good although service not perfect. Outside temperature 30-34 degrees!! An outside table with some shade would have been ideal but was not offered. Temperature inside was horrendous. Our party of six were occupied with mopping perspiring brows etc for the whole time. No water was offered which would have been a good idea. Staff doing their best in difficult conditions. We were not asked for names/addresses etc. to deal with track and trace should this become necessary.

With the Government offering 50% off restaurant meals, we visited our favourite Chef & Brewer pub.We were not disappointed with the good food and great view from the terrace.It was easy to book online. My choice of fish and chips were preceded by mushrooms with Stilton on sourdough, and followed by Apple and blackberry crumble pie. Superb.All social distancing was observed, all staff wore visors.

First of all , can I just say I usually love this place .With it being the first day of the 50% off offer we expected it to be busy.We arrived early for our 5.30 booking and it was fairly quiet. Ordered almost straight away but after an hour and 20 minutes waiting all we'd had was some garlic bread for the kids . People ordering after us were receiving food but still no sign of ours . At 6.25 we made a polite enquiry and was told it would be 5 minutes. Turned up 20+ minutes later . When I pointed out that others had been saved before us the waitress became argumentative. One last thing , the king prawns are the smallest king prawns I've EVER seen .Food was good though and I wont be put off .

Popped here after the disappointment of the Mercure hotel nearby. We were placed in the garden with a stunning view of Box Hill. The chap asked if we were having a good day and we recited our story about the hotel (worth a read as another one of my reviews from the day).The drink selection was a touch basic and there could’ve been a few more lagers or IPAs, but given the friendliness of the staff and the view this wasn’t a problem.We came back later and the same chap cane to us when he finished and said he hoped our day got better and that we had a nice time. It was a lovely touch and this place made what could’ve been a long disappointing day much much better.Good effort guys!

Bumped into this place for dinner after trekking up box hill during the day. Staff were lovely, prompt service, good food and a wonderful view to box hill.Decent selection of drinks and a really good food menu. Well worth a visit

Fantastic views - safety is clearly shown as a priority but this doesn’t stop the staff offering great service with a smile! Can’t wait to be back.

4 of us here today had an inside table,we all had the turkey, the meal was excellent and cooked perfectly the roast were quite big portions. It’s the best roast we’ve had in a long time, great views of Boxhill. We all had various desserts all presented nicely and all enjoyed, great selection of lagers especially the San Miguel,we booked table in advance and had great service and didn’t wait to long for our meals, thanks and we will be back.

We just had lunch and I wanted to thanks Charlie and her team for a excellent meal in beautiful surroundings, the food was perfect, best hake and fish and chips we had in a long time . We also felt very safe as All the staff is wearing masks and are extremely well trained . Thank you , we will be back soon x

What a let down. Had visited here a few times before covid and it was nice. This time the service was dreadful. Monday night we waited 20 minutes for each round of drinks via the app. It was by no means busy. No one bothered with the government track and trace code we did via text. Missed onion rings and tomato off my partners meal to be rudely told oh well there’s nothing we can replace with it would only be 3 onion rings anyways. Perhaps you shouldn’t advertise on a dish if you cannot serve it. Or at least let us know. Sauces forgotten about and had to stand around waiting for someone to get you it after they had forgotten. What was once a local for us now will not be revisited, also views ruined by high bushes not bothered to trim.

On its reopening didn't miss the opportunity to book in. Great meal, great service, great price. Had the Steak in red wine pie, whilst my wife had scampi, only because the sea bass was unavailable. The usual excellent quality.

Visited as prelude to going to local show. Was not very busy but service was slow and one person had to get up from table to order drinks from bar as no one appeared to see if we wanted drinks topped up. Butter for bread was rock hard and as served in a lump could not be warmed up so bread was in pieces with the odd butter chunk in places. Most meals were good except the lasagne which had been heated so much the edges were burnt and stuck to dish and the content so very dry. Not a dish to recommend. The sea bass and scallops were very small portions and over faced with rice and peas and certainly not value for money.

Me and my partner ate here for the first time and we will definitely be back! The pub/restaurant was very open and spacious, the staff were friendly. The camembert starter was THE best I've ever had! And the chicken burger main was just as delicious! We had no room for pudding, but im sure they are amazing aswell.They had a great menu, to suit all. Would recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone

Stopped here for lunch mid week, sat in bar area there was few others in there too. Had the camembert for starters and burger for lunch with the truffle and cheese topped chips. Was a 10/10 meal absolutely loved it, will definitely be returning with friends and have already recommended.Decent size car park with nice views if can get a seat at back of restaurant/pubGood food menu and plenty of choice of drinks from the bar.Prices were also less than had expected to pay for the standard of food.See you all again soon!

Fantastic experience at The Watermill In this evening. They were short of staff, but were coping brilliantly - the manager (?) was just staying calm and everyone was getting served in line, he kept his head which I think inspired confidence in people who were waiting and nobody complained. They’d clearly had a busy day so the roasts had all run out except for the rib of beef which I didn’t fancy. He recommended the steak & ale pie and gave me some roasties to go with it to compensate for the fact I couldn’t have my roast! I promised him I’d leave him a 5 star review and I’m happy to follow through with this. I imagine when they’re fully staffed it’s just as an enjoyable place to visit - pie was to die for and we’ll definitely visit again.

We had a light lunch here today and were so impressed.We hadn't booked and they were so busy, luckily a kind young family said they were leaving and we were able to have their table. Best book on a Sunday, there was a waiting list after us.The staff were lovely, so genuinely helpful and went out of their way to help my friend who is slightly disabled. This made our visit so much comfortable.We had the sharing board, highly recommend, beautifully presented.Thanks to Charlee the manager and Layna and Daniel, especially Andre the chef who cooked this tasty food. We loved it. Will be back very soon.

Great night for Valentine’s Day. Manager was lovely and she remember our order every week - don’t know how she does it! Food was hot and great as usual. Keep it up Watermill team!

We arrived here and were seated immediately by the manager who took our drinks order straight away and took the time to answer my friends questions about the dishes. After we decided our order was taken by Frederick who was equally helpful. Our food arrived hot and both the manager and Frederick came to check we were happy with our meals. They were lovely. There are two areas the restaurant area is set up professionally and the bar area has lovely views over looking the hill. We will definitely be back thank you.

The Inn is in a fab location and the dining area is spacious. Cleanliness was an an issue for us. The salt and pepper pots were grubby, wine glasses were dusty and the table was sticky. All fixable with proper training. My fillet steak arrived well done, rather than medium. This should have been evident to the kitchen and the server as the outside looked burnt. I declined a replacement and the meal was deleted from the bill. This was a very disappointing experience and well below the standard set by other Chef & Brewers.

We haven't been to the Watermill Inn for a very long time, and we wish we had been back sooner. The lunchtime choice has got something for everybody, all served in a lovely restaurant.

Popped into the Watermill for a quick drink with friends at lunchtime today. Lovely atmosphere, just what we wanted on a cold wet windy day. The Manager, Charlee was so welcoming and she found us a space near the bar immediately, as we not planning on staying too long. Charlee persuaded us to have the roast potatoes as a snack - oh yes...simply delicious! We had our dog with us today and all the staff were very pet friendly.

Went there tonight & just ordered 5 starters between 3 of us to eat as a tapas in bar area! Really good food cannot fault anything even though we were advised food may be up to 30 mins but it arrived very quickly. Daniel was really helpful & all the staff were friendly & especially made a fuss of our dog which is a plus for me. It is clean, comfortable & dog friendly. Would like to go back on a nice day to sit outside as the view from the rear looks amazing.

Hadn't visited this pub before, but decided to give it a try - despite a poor local reputation - based on a local review. We arrived at 12.15 for an early lunch, and ordered our food and a glass of wine. The wine arrived, but the food didn't turn up until nearly 1.30pm! If the hour or more we waited after ordering had been spent on an amazing plate of food crafted by a Michelin starred chef, we would have been fine. But we ordered scampi and chips - prepared food that simply needed chucking into a deep fat fryer! The waiter, when we queried the delay, told us it was a half an hour wait on a Friday for food. We would have been delighted to have had only a half an hour wait......

visited the Watermill on Sunday, there was a large group of people there to enjoy the live music. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to us all. The barman was happy and chatty, the waitresses were great and very accommodating for our needs. Sadly one of the waitresses had burnt herself on one of the meals, we asked if she was okay as she put the food down to which she replied she was fine but we could cleary see she was in extreme pain. After seeing the amount of sauce in which had burnt her, we were very surprised to see that she had not gone to the hospital for this.(we could clearly see it was a nasty burn) At the end of the evening the dark haired manager in the jacket wasn't even around and had left the young waitress to deal with things - literally one handed. I'm appalled at the managers behaviour towards this issue it this young lady needed medical attn and I believe this needs to be sorted

Had a great Burn’s Night meal - the haggis was delicious and really made a change. Definitely recommend the Watermill. The team are always friendly and attentive.

We've eaten here twice in the last few months. The food is delicious - great pub food. Lovely ambience in the restaurant section. And lovely staff, very welcoming - they make you feel comfortable and at home (Frederick served us last time). We'll definitely be back :) PS We did the Supper Club deal on a week night which was great value as well.

The atmosphere was good and the food delicious. Service very good and we were well informed as to how long the food would take to be served.

Great country pub just outside Dorking with views of Boxhill. Excellent food with a good roast on Sundays.

This place is simply a solid option when you want a warm meal and decent service and choice of food. Never regretted going there with friends or family.

Ordered food from bar, Barman was rude, waited an hour for food and was then informed that the order did not go through to kitchen, so got a refund and left.

Nice friendly pub restaurant with good choices for lunch/dinner. Great service today by friendly staff. Often pop in for a light meal en route to Dorking , good location on A25. We shall return!

We recently had a Festive Fayre meal at the Watermill Inn and it was a truly memorable experience from start to finish. The food was superb, the service was second to none and the pub itself is one of the nicest we have ever visited. It is not the first time we have been and certainly won't be the last. If I could give more than 5 starts I would.

We waited an hour for food, even though it wasn't busy, food was cold and side order to roasts brought out when we had nearly finished, even though we had reminded staff politely.

Went to the water mill inn last night with some family and was surprised with how bad the service has gotten. Food was good as usual but we were astounded with the service. Glasses left on the table until we were struggling to create space for food and then the waitress would continue to pile plates on and never take the glasses. On top of this the staff were just rude and quite demeaning.

Great food and service! Perfect place to come with the family. Would definitely recommend to others!

Stoped here whilst on a 100 mile bike ride and just wanted to say what great members off staff you have made us feel very welcome and the coffe was excellent also it was nice and warm.will be back but next time for some Food as it smelt loverly

We've eaten here many times over the last 15ish years and keep going back. We love everything about it. The food, drinks, people, atmosphere is all great and the lunch menu (or regular with a voucher) is really good value for money.

Booked Sunday lunch on the 24th November for five as a family meet up, we all had the roast turkey a very well laid out meal and melt in the mouth turkey left all clean plates. The waitress was friendly and efficient did not wait long for our food even though it was getting busy, have been to the Watermill before and would definitely visit again it’s a Pleasant eating experience.

Booked a table in advance for the festive menu with family. Have visited many times before and always had a good experience. We were all very impressed with the food. Most of us had the turkey, which was delicious, all plates left clean. There was a lovely festive atmosphere and the staff were all very friendly and made sure we had a good experience.
