The Six Bells in Mole Valley

This pub used to have an exceptionally good kitchen but it’s now it’s more middle of the road. Gammon egg & chips was pretty good, the lamb’s liver rather too thick and a bit tough, and the fish cakes a little dry. The real ales were very good and the Chilean Sauvignon was also nice and reasonably priced at £24. For desserts the sticky date pudding was good and although the tart tatin looked unusual it was apparently enjoyable. Service throughout was friendly and efficient There’s a pleasant garden area and plenty of outdoor seating along with a good sized car park. On balance this is a fair village pub but not worth a special journey.

Wanted to support a local pub. Firstly I had to ask them to wipe the table as it was dirty. We both had the trio roast, nice concept but it was very average mine was not particularly hot either. Service was average, staff not very attentive to customers needs. Deserts were very poor and overpriced. The Tarte tatin, very little pastry, no fudge sauce and not much flavour. Very overpriced. Given a 50p discount when complained. Brownie was dry and ice cream had lumps of ice in it. Also overpriced. Diet Coke at £3.80 a pint and £3.20 for a half, sparkling water £3.20 a small bottle!!!! I left feeling fleeced as the cost of this lunch. We won’t be going back.

Quite expensive for the quality of food served. Quite a lot of menu was not available. Drinks expensive. Good service from staff.

I'm only giving this 5 stars because we can't give it 8 !! The food was good and arrived quickly, but that's not the reason for the great review - the staff get 20 out of 10 for being so helpful - we had booked a table for 6 and 4 of our party got stuck in traffic north of the Dartford Crossing which was closed, they diverted to the Woolwich Ferry and as they got in that broke down !! They ended up arriving 2 hours late and the guys here took their order 'on the go' so it would be ready when they arrived and kept the kitchen open a little longer to make sure we all got served - 2 mins after they arrived, the staff served starters - perfect! Customer service done as it should be, well done guys !!!

Nice pub in a lovely position. Food and service was very good. Menu was changing the next day, so not all dishes available, will go again to try new food.

Great food, wonderful staff in an authentic pub . Not your run of the mill gastro pub which makes a pleasant surprise, definitely worth a visit.

Seven of us dined here after a nice walk around Newdigate. Lunch was excellent, as was choice of beers, Surrey Hills a more than decent ale. Service was polite, friendly and just right; thank you Charlotte and the young man in the red check shirt. Highly recommended, and shall return.

Part of table of 6 which had been booked. Staff pleasant, but one of us when walking towards the gents toilet was yelled at and told not to use the urinals as they were out of order. Much easier and less embarrassing to simply put up even a handwritten note on the door or inside by urinals. Still nothing there after lunch. Orders taken, but quite a time before we were served, particularly the last plate. Sauce with beef rib, very thick and congealed, plus looked just like the sauce with the chicken pie. After our plates were cleared, we were then completely ignored. No offer of desserts or coffee/tea. More profit for them if someone had come back to our table. We eventually gave up and individually went to the bar and settled our bills. A 'service' charge of 12.5% was automatically added, which was arrogant considering the lack of service.

I've recently started using this pub despite being in the area for a few years, I made a mistake by not coming here when I first moved into the area, the staff are beyond helpful and as an ale drinker I find the ales really good, I've also eaten here a few times and found the food to be well presented and delicious. As a bar snack you would be very hard pressed to beat their cheesey chips, quite possibly the best I've had in the last few years. They are very dog friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely a place to visit.

Went for Sunday roast. Staff lovely - friendly and welcoming; we arrived a little early but were still happily shown to a table. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puds very overcooked - replaced speedily but Yorkshires still quite burnt. Otherwise food was good. The downside of our visit (through no fault of the staff) was the disgraceful behaviour of the guests on the table behind us - well done to your staff for keeping their cool; one woman in particular (fuelled most likely by over indulgence of alcohol and apparently not for the first time) was loud, rude and totally obnoxious refusing to pay for food when there were several cleared plates on the table...shame on you woman and the others on your table.

Excellent homemade food at reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Easy to park. We will definitely come again. The background music made a nice change - no blasting 90's pop!

We were staying at a nearby campsite and googled where to go for dinner! What a lovely find, great food and friendly staff! Brilliant find!

Food - great menu and reasonably priced. We have eaten here several times - dirty fries / mac n cheese with chorizo and chicken / nachos our favourite. We haven’t had a Sunday lunch but they look fantastic. Beer - reasonably priced and great choice. Surrey hills ranmore and shere drop being the regulars and a range of craft ales also on offer. All kept well. Service - exemplary! So many pubs could learn from the attitude of all the staff. Professional and friendly every time. You are always met with a friendly smile and welcome. Chloe, Georgia, Owen, Charlie and Cameron are fantastic. Sunday nights - £3 a pint for ales, what’s not to like. Last review claiming not homemade gravy. What a load of ****. Charlie takes great pride in his food and doesn’t cut any corners. He’s often given many of us tips and clearly very talented. Keep it up guys

A seriously slick visit to The Six Bells! We had a very warm welcome (helped by the gorgeous open fire!) and after a quick check on availability were shown to a lovely table (only criticism of the whole visit was perhaps the background music was a touch too loud, but wasn't a biggie). ordered the Sunday roast chicken, which was out of this world! Perfectly cooked and moist meat and yet the roast veg were crisp and cooked right through. And the Yorkie....woah, mountainous hehe! The staff were all really friendly and we had a lovely mini chat with the manager at the end defo one for a return trip in the future

The stupid chef said parmesan cheese is veggie. Any food professional should know that a veal calf doesn't grow on a tree!!!

Popped in for lunch and had a perfect meal. Well done, Tammy and team! Nachos were loaded as they should be and the roast garlic was superb.

We stopped here mid-afternoon on a winter Monday and it was great to be able to have a meal at that time. We were warmly welcomed and greatly enjoyed a burger, a pie and pasta dishes, washed down beer from the local Surrey Hills Brewery.

Excellent Sunday roast lunch. High-quality food in generous portions with brilliant service. Always a good sign when you open a pub door and the person behind the bar greets you warmly. It's a simple thing, but says a lot about a place in my view. Add the real fire and Six Bells gave us a warm welcome and a lovely Sunday lunch.

Just back from a New Year's day lunch at the Six Bells. Our party of three all agreed that the food was superb, service was friendly and excellent. We didn't have a booking but they got us in. Very dog friendly and cheerful staff. A highlight was the parade of beautiful and vintage tractors meeting up here. As busy as it was, the staff managed to take care of everyone and it was a great experience.

Great homely pub so warm and welcoming we will be back every year as a new Christmas tradition. We just had a drink.

A beautiful pub with wonderful staff and excellent food. They welcomed my 17 year old puppy with treats and praise. They accommodated the weird requests from my 8 year old nephew. They made us welcome and we had an amazing Christmas meal. It was so good I forgot to take photos of the main meal but here are the starters and cheese board

A great find! Lovely cheerful welcome, only popped in for little drink on way to a hotel for airport stopover. Ended up having baked camebert & chips! Fabulous even the chips were delicious! Definitely stop there again for full meal on way to Gatwick. Shame its not our local 😔 loved the fire, comforters & atmosphere well done to uou all - keep it going. Thank you Ann ; Shaun xx

We got served by Georgia and she was amazing. Absolutely lovely, and really made our evening so lovely. Also. I fully recommend the camembert. Amazing.

So lovely to have our village pub back to what it should be . Good food, great atmosphere and Jo and the rest of the team are so friendly and welcoming - always on hand with a biscuit for the dogs! Highly recommend .

Delightful pub just up the road from Crawley, Gatwick and Charlwood. Opposite a beautiful wooden church. There is a beautiful Inglenook fireplace with horse brasses and a post horn surrounded with fascinating artifacts and cozy seating. I had the pork and stuffing pie which was very tender and generously sized. My friend, Tony had salmon on Moroccan base which was beautifully prepared. Dessert was just as delightful with my Sticky Toffee Pudding of excellent quality with generous caramel sauce and a large dollop of chocolate ice cream. Tony loved his apple crumple and a coffee after. Jo is the landlord and was very chatty and catered for our every need with a smile and good knowledge of the history of the pub. All in all, a really good pub and a short drive from the a24, Gatwick, Crawley and Redhill. It is next to St Peters Church which is beautiful with its wooden spire.

Came in lunch for on a busy Sunday, food was fab! Well done to the chefs Charlie and Alex - and waitress Chloe was so friendly and helpful.

New management really making this a great pub. My 2nd visit in 3 weeks and if this continues it could rapidly become part of my Saturday morning routine. The food is good/great and the staff clearly care. In the sun there’s a lovely garden and when it’s raining there’s a covered veranda. I complimented the food today and Charlie the chef popped out and said thank you! The Burata on my first visit was yummy but OMG the Hot Lamb Sandwich special today was mind blowing. Well done Six Bells.

We dined here at lunchtime today. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, I’m sorry for the rest of the staff, but we only got to know Jo’s name, but you are all worth a mention. Food was delicious. Highly recommended. Do try the Six Bells.

First time visit. Looks like a pub from the outside but not a boozer. Minimal bar area and a bit pozy with big keg taps. Under new ownership only a couple of weeks back with ideas to replace the larger bar area removed by the previous owners. Could be one to watch in the future.

Great new start for the new owners food was delicious all home made went for dinner with friends was so good I went back for roast today! Georgia the waitress was lovely and so was the rest of the team!

If there was an option for 0 starts I would’ve selected that. As you can see in the picture, my pizza was not only burnt but scorched. It was inedible so had to send it back, then I was offered another made by the same person! I declined this offer and it got taken off the bill. One of the staff members then came out and proceeded to trip all the lights and heaters in the section we were sitting in, so my fiancé was left to eat the rest of her meal in the dark. I was then told due to this series of unfortunate events her burger would also be taken off the bill, so I thanks the staff member and went inside to pay. Although there was nothing wrong with the burger the gesture was appreciated. I then ordered two shots for myself and my fiancé before we left and she noticed it said £18! When she brought this up the member of staff serving it said the rest was for the burger, but only said this as I tapped my card to pay. I asked for a refund and the manager then told me he “didn’t care” because there was nothing wrong with it so I had to pay.

Booked for lunch online. Arrived not serving any food!! Why not just have the courtesy to tell us, and don't take a booking if you have no food. 😡

A large(ish) village pub, which was nearly empty when we visited, we were greeted by the bar staff warmly. Beer selection was uninspired, being the "usual two" [Doom & Pride] but was well kept.

I didn't do the restaurant, I had a couple of pints the barmaid seemed very friendly and was very good at her job. It was a chatty pub and most of the regulars seemed friendly

I'd give it less if I could. Avoid!! Took our table booking.. turned up no chef apparently.. although nobody bothered to let us know. Huge rats running in car park and beer garden..! Do not go here for food!

Small pub. They had a problem with the cook, so menu was very limited. But the lady at the counter did all she could to make it a wonderful visit. We sat in the sun in the backyard. It was fantastic, thank you.

Came on a week day, apparently the cook has left, nevertheless an effort was made to serve us lunch by a very friendly lady / owner.

Booked a table for food got there and kitchen closed. Eventually got a beer, most were not more than froth. Then sat out side with our two dogs, when a massive rat ran around us and disappeared through a broken air brick in the wall of the pub. Very strange experience, something not good is happening, I hope they are not struggling financially as way too many village pubs are closing.

Was barred as the manager Jordan doesn’t want his girlfriend finding out he’s chatting up other women and sending pictures (he claims he’s single)

The two service staff were excellent and should be commended on their service delivery which made this lunch, an important family meetup, pleasant. But this Easter Saturday, our experience of the Six Bells really didn’t match up to the description on the website. One local ale on tap . The menus were scrappy dog-eared and not very clean 3-page plain A4 printouts stapled together. Our meals were poor. Onion soup, whilst flavoursome, with onions not properly cooked. Tempura prawns served with hot spicy sriracha sauce, not sweet chilli sauce that would be the norm. They’d run out of burgers. Chicken and mushroom pie, the best way to describe it would be like tinned soup thickened up. No regular vegetables, only some salad greens which were soaking in the gravy they were served with. And we were overcharged on an item on the bill, corrected once we raised it. I can accept that was a genuine error which can happen anywhere, but on top of everything else it felt pretty dismal. The place was probably fine for the group of cyclists making a stop off for lunch on their ride but not for a enjoyable meal out with family. Just to say again, the service staff were very good, very attentive and polite, but they have a tough job.

Nice little country pub, we went for lunch. Had a basic but nice menu. A range of starters. I had the pork belly bites. Definitely recommended 👌 Mains were basic pub food, a burger (chips were really good). A pie with mash, fish and chips and similar style dishes. I'm not sure if it's the same menu for dinner. But it was missing big meat items like Steak or Chicken on the lunch menu. However, the food we did have was very nice. The staff were lovely and offered table service despite us being in the bar area. We had a dog with us who was warmly welcomed but did mean we couldn't eat in the restaurant. This wasn't a problem but just how they divide the eating area. The garden area looks very nice but due to the weather on the day it was an inside day only! I'd definitely head back in the summer.

Love the fish and chips it's beautifully served and it tastes so nice! Such a friendly place and what an amazing service I would be going to six pubs more often as it is my local pub! Recommended for bringing loved ones and friends for a drink or a lovely meal. New owners as of 29/03/23 review under this one. There is still fish and chips good news, but the overall new menu, new owners, all cooked fresh chat by one of the new managers young lad easygoing and overall very nice atmosphere. The new menu looks easier to read, has a better price point, and the objective is to target the locals and everyday people. This time I reckon this will be a lot more successful business. Will be back to have a date night there again very soon. Overall recommendation for a family to go or yourself if you like to.

Myself and my husband visited 23/10/2022 and had a fantastic Sunday roast. 1 pork and 1 lamb both meats cooked to perfection as where the trimmings. The service was outstanding all staff where very welcoming and very accommodating. We didn't book in advance but the staff found us a quite table across from the fire. I can honestly say Six Bells knows how to do a Sunday roast. We will be back ❤️

We dropped in for lunch. We had a very friendly welcome. The garden and outside space is lovely with a delightful pub interior. We were particularly interested in accessibility for our daughter who is a wheelchair user. Our meal was good. The fish and chips are gluten free although the menu has little to identify gluten and dairy free dishes. We were told that changes were due in the autumn. We will return. It was lovely to find a really pleasant comfortable pub.

Lovely pub garden and lovely staff. Love the atmosphere, relaxing, casual. Well located too. Really enjoyed the food here. The linguine was absolutely tasty and the prawns were amazingly fresh! My partner enjoyed the ribs a lot. Will come back if there's chance!

Great food and service. Very fresh tasting - had tuna nicoise salad which came with an actual tuna steak. So yummy. One piece of advice - keep the chef in the kitchen; he's a great chef but not a great waiter 😃

Nice place for a drink and a meal.

What a mess. Tried to order food for me, my wife and two kids, told a wait of 30mins, then old that we can't order for another 10 mins (as there is only one chef). The stand-in manager (brown haired ponytail) was rude about a customer we know, badmouthed the owner (!) extremely condescending and abrupt. She came out extremely angry that we were not sympathetic with the situation. I was shocked by her manner and tone. She needs training in customer service or better still she should find another job. Incapable and inept. Will not be returning in a hurry.

My parents and I enjoyed a superb roast lunch. The lamb and pork were tender and flavoursome and all ingredients tasted fresh, with Surrey Hill ales on draught. Warm, friendly and unhurried service made us feel at home. The decor is refined, spacious and airy, with plenty of room for dining outside. My only reservation was the volume of the music which was a little loud - something more soothing in keeping with the ambience would have been ideal. However, all-in-all, an excellent establishment and deserved winner of best pub! It's in a stunning location and I look forward to returning.

Lovely pub in a gorgeous village. Very nice food and staff. Only thing that took the shine off: the owner takes 50% of the service charge added to the bill. It's a bit greedy, so we took it off and gave cash to the staff instead.

It's always a pleasure to visit this friendly pub. Lovely garden partly covered and cosy indoors. Beer well kept and food good. Plenty of parking too.
