The New Chimneys in Ashford

Maybe it was a off day like we all get sometimes but it feels like it was rushed and not really from what I can remember last time( does it have new owners?)

Came for a bank holiday lunch with my mum and we were both very impressed with the food and the service. Neither of us have been to Chimneys since the refurbishment, but we loved it so much that we will now be coming back very regularly! Thank you to Sarah for her excellent recommendations and fantastic hospitality.

Absolutely disgusting food and manager. I booked for Easter Sunday roast dinner for my family. The kids food was greasy but edible the roast dinner on the other hand with inedible; the meat was dry and sent out the wrong one; potatoes and parsnips were burnt and rock solid all other veg was cold and food was not seasoned. When I raised my complaint the first person I spoke to tried gaslighting me into saying is was just “charred” I then had to get my dad to come into the restaurant and speak for me as I was being intimidated by the managers. Wouldn’t recommend and definitely wouldn’t return.

Had Bacon and Cheese burger - what can I say! Can't fault it! Absolutely delicious. Cookie Dough for dessert, again marvellous! Highly recommend for the best pub food in Ashford.

Changed hands recently, and the new management Shona and Richard have really brought this place back to life for locals. The new works outside the pbu has put the gardens to better use, more live music regularly, and the new menus are much better with great bar snacks too. Great for the whole family! Oh and don't forget the last Thursday of the month, the best quiz! Book in advance as tables go fast and it's always packed out!

Friendly staff, reasonable prices. Family atmosphere, lots of events throughout the month. Huge range of options and regular entertainment.

The table not laid properly. Order food took one hr to tern up. Food cold veg not cooked. Desert took one hr to tern up. Bill very over priced. Would recommend not to go there for dinner.

We now eat here daily regularly for family gatherings, as it is nice a local so no one needs to drive. Having said that if we ever did the car park is huge, so no worries there! Service is always 5* and the team are very friendly and approachable. Good choice of food and everything we’ve tried has been of a high standard. Prices are also reasonable, which is a bonus when eating out as a large group.

The pub is a lovely looking venue. It has lots of space and the live band were very very good. However the service is extremely poor. We ordered food at 2000 hours the food did not get to us until2110 hours. When it arrived I would say 4/6 were poor. The pie was undercooked and slimy the chips were cold. The poor waitress was rushed off her feet. Too little staff in a venue that size. Over priced for what it is. Food very mediocre. Bar staff. Most were really nice but unfortunately there’s always one that lets it down. Rude obnoxious and really let the side down. Manners cost nothing. Shame as we were out with friends I have t seen this year and was so looking forward to it. But I was in excellent company and the dancing. Nd music made it bearable. Need to make food and service better as this could be a fabulous place instead of average.

We hired the top floor of this pub to hold our baby shower party on the 24th Feb 2024 and it was fantastic. Rich the manager looked after us and let us have the venue from the morning so we could set up (however we wanted to) right round until midnight. We had use of the upstairs bar which served very very popular and the price we paid even included the pub staff cleaning up after we left so we could go home and not worry which was amazing. The whole night was fantastic James was an amazing bar man looking after everyone, the waiters and waitresses were running round delivering everyone’s food and were so polite and helpful. All of our friends and family couldn’t believe how much space we had upstairs, loved the food and the upstairs bar and the fact that we had the football/rugby on for the men as well! We were allowed to bring in our own singer and have her as our entertainment and the team were happy to provide us music upstairs until we were ready for the singer to start and they were then happy to turn the music off upstairs so we could all enjoy the entertainment without anything else playing in the background. We were also allowed to pop back the next morning to pick up anything that we wanted and had left there the night before. Such a fantastic evening/night I can not recommend this venue and the team enough they done everything they could to look after us and it meant so much considering how many of us there were and how late we stayed. A big thank-you to the team we cannot wait to return and use this venue for many more parties in the future - you are all fantastic!

Good to see there have sorted the speakers around main TV. Watching Liverpool here fir the 2nd time. Had food also today; very good. However my only observation was gravy jug was very small, would have liked more gravey, in a bigger jug. Pudding - Again very good, but as above same size jug for the custard, would have a bigger jug. Also £2 for one scoop of ice cream seemed alittle much. Otherwise, will be back to watch other Liverpool games with my friends.

We enjoyed a lovely roast dinner today. Unfortunately, by the time we ordered the roast beef had run out. However, that didn't overly matter with pork and chicken still available which we had and really enjoyed. This is the best plated roast dinner meal we've had out. In addition we really enjoyed the variety and quality of the desserts and mini dessert with hot drinks options - Biscoff Sundae, mini chocolate brownie and mini crumble.

I absolutely love chimneys. They have such a great range of starters, mains and desserts and I will always go there for family or friend events. We always have great service and the food is good quality. It can get a bit noisy when football is on but that’s not too much of a problem. I would definitely recommend if you want a quick drink at the pub or a proper meal with friends/ family!

Four adults and 2 pooches celebrating a birthday. We chose New Chimneys due to its location, being under new ownership so we were curious and knew that it was also very dog friendly from other reviews ... We wasn't at all disappointed, on a cold windy night the entrance was warm and inviting and the twinkling lights inside made you feel very cosy . First impressions of how spacious , fresh and clean it all looked , having been a customer previously we knew how it had sadly gone down hill over the years, the new land lady and land lord have certainly breathed a whole new lease of life in to this lovely pub revitalising both inside and outside . We were greeted with a friendly welcome by the landlord and shown to our seats. Drinks arrived in a flash, food hot, plentiful and nicely presented, we chose 3 courses starters Pan Fried Mushrooms, stilton & garlic sauce on sourdough , Southen fried chicken strips with a garlic mayo dip, both absolutely delicious and would make excellent lunch time mains if the portion size were to be increased.. mains Whole tail Scampi, skin on chips with garden peas, 10oz Gammon, 2 free range eggs , skin on chips with garden peas, Chicken schnitzel, garlic butter, skin on chips with green leaf salad and ceaser dressing.. we all had ample portions , chips were perfect light and fluffy inside but with a lovely crispy crunch skin, Gammon juicy, not salty and the knife went through like butter , Chicken also juicy and tender and the crumb nice and crispy , Scampi really tasty and cooked perfectly.. we rounded our already full tummies off with 2 mini desserts of Salted caramel choc brownie with ice cream which included tea or coffee the other two had Crumble and custard and the Eton Mess, just the pattern remained on our empty bowls and plates which speaks volumes. Bowls of water for the dogs, lots of fusses from the staff and treats.. we were all looked after and look forward to becoming the locals once again.

Hi, We were a party of 18 for a New Years Dinner/ Birthday Party. As we had come from different parts of the world - South Africa and up north - UK and Ashford... all had different ideas as to how things were going to be. We were all very impressed as to the service, staff and the Pub it self how things turned out. A very professional, happy place to be. The staff were amazing, food was delicious and served with such speed , music a little too loud but that is to be expected for that time of the year......full 10 stars given..... fully recommend.

Shepherds pie was too rich. Burger had only one piece of gristle, which is slightly off putting, but was in the last bite, otherwise, it might have put me off the meal. Scampi was perfect and came with peas, either mushy or not. The only real issue was that if you wanted anything on the side, such as onion rings or mushrooms, they were all extra, so the plate looked a bit empty with just a burger and chips. The mushroom and Stilton topping was delicious but lacked quantity. The prices are reasonable until you start adding extras. The rump steak had lots of gristle and fat on it so you don't actually get an 8oz portion. The onion rings were slightly under cooked. The service was really good from our waiter and there were 16 of us, so it probably was a challenge and coped well with it. The other meals were all eaten without complaints, so a satisfactory outcome. Costs about £10 to £15 per meal.

Come in for a large family meal, food and atmosphere was lovely. Everybody left feeling full and most of us only had 2 courses. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The food was amazing, my dad had the Stilton and garlic mushroom burger and he looked like he was gonna order another one, but gutted he was stuffed. I had the Korean sesame burger and it was amazing I had the hallumi sticks for a starter and by the second course I couldent eat another bite. Great portion sizes for an affordable price 100% coming back again. Thank you New Chimneys Team.

We had a large group for a work Xmas meal. The table was ready and well set up, the music was great and the service at the bar was quick and colleagues helpful and friendly. The only let down was the food. They have the team there, they have the equipment, it’s just a little bit rushed and more pub quality over restaurant quality. The portions varied between each persons plate. It seemed maybe they were running out of some products half way through serving.

Great setting and friendly attentive staff, that being said the food disappointed We paid £16.50 for a duo roast with 2 meats and got a tiny amount 3 small potatos and a tiny bit of stuffing a veg, cauliflower cheese was an extra £3.50.. 2 of us eat and had a soft drink and the bill was nearly £50 and we left still hungry and not satisfied at all. Don't waste your money.

We went to New Chimneys for a Christmas get together last night. Very impressed. We Were welcomed in by some friendly regulars who held the doors open for us. We were seated by a lovely smiley waiter who was so helpful all evening offering drinks at our table. Food was delicious nice big portions and a great price for a set menu. There were crackers, chocolates and a little quiz on our table as well as a card from the owners Thanking us for booking with them. So much attention to detail. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Disco was great with plenty of room to dance. We really were so pleased with the service and food and will definitely be returning. You can tell how much hard work and love has been put into the pub by the new owners. Will definitely be returning very soon.

I went to this place recently with my beautiful lady and I was treated with upmost respect and great customer service. They have done very well in making this place successful and all the bar staff and management all seem completely switched on. I spoke to the owner aswell and he was very nice and accommodating and I would recommend 👌 this place to anyone who is up for a nice relaxing calm evening.

I’ve been to New Chimneys quite a few times. The place is gorgeous, always very clean and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The staff are always helpful and nice and the new managers are always very welcoming, making us feel like friends, not only customers. Every time they organise a family event, they make it a great evening for everyone. The menu is great, anyone can find something they like. The online menu is very easy to access for everyone with special requirements. Portions are always generous and the food is delivered in time, looking always delicious. Thank you very much, we will book our wedding meal there.👍👍🥂🥂

Attentive staff. I went to a large family gathering there. First day on the new menu but there were no difficulties and everyone in our party commented on how good the food was.

Arranged a surprise 50th meal which Shonia Richard and Robyn were amazing spot on with service. Chef cooked amazing food all round. Bar staff very friendly. And had good band on. 100% recommend this place for food drink n entertainment .

This was my first time eating here. First impressions were good. Really Cosy inside, obviously newly refurbished and alot of nice little areas around to fit all needs from a chat, to watching sport and playing pool ect. This place as loads of potential. Although the toilets do need some attention you can tell alot by an establishments toilets. The eating experience was not the best to be honest, however the team were trying their best. My first impressions of this service and just in general could be alot better. Too casual, no uniforms, under trained and all too rushed. Did not seem to have any passion and they were not attentive enough in thier service and at times lacked some professionalism when conducting themselves. It seems the place are in transition of new management that is how it felt. With the right support, guidance, service and experience, serving the right food menu and deliverying great service the sky's the limit for this restaurant. The kitchen set up seems perfect also so the with right back of house and front of house staff with the right leadership I would be excited to come back again to give another go. Great catchment area too. However until these changes it would be hard for me to reccomend for eating although definitely would for a drink especially in the summer with a great garden area. The food was not the greatest quality, but the chips are amazing and to be fair they do have some great offers so I guess this is reflected in the food quality. Although this could come across as negative criticism it is meant as positive criticism because I really do feel this place as great potential especially the restaurant side and this review and opinions are based on many years of pub and restaurant background. Had a lovely Sunday roast, food was fresh and tasty, value for money, polite friendly staff, amazing cosy relaxed setting, we will be back

Came in today with a table of 12 (and high chair). Everyone ordered a roast dinner (baring one child’s burger meal) and all really enjoyed it. The roast potatoes were lovely and always make a roast for me, the carrots and parsnips were equally delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was very yummy as was the cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. I was fussy as I do not like my beef pink and so asked if they could do cook it more and they happily accommodated for me. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the children loved their puddings too. Service was great and everyone was really friendly. We would definitely happily come back and recommend. Just gutted I couldn’t fit in a pudding 🤣

The food was very nice couldn't fault starters main or desserts lovely presentation. Would definitely recommend the roast delicious. Very disappointing visit. After spending £400 on a family birthday meal for 13 adults and 11 children. Waited over an hour and a half for meals to come out, some incorrect and 1 not edible. Desert was a disaster I personally waited 1 hr for a crumble to then have to wait another hr to pay to be told there was an outstanding £30 left to pay when I'm sure the mistake was made by the confused staff. Still we paid. My fish n chips cost me £50. Would have liked to have left a positive review but unfortunately not able to.

The waiter was a polite pleasant person. The food wasn't great portions not the best about a dessert spoon of peas scampi was dry over cooked and some with no scampi in the bread crumbs. The service was slow im assuming lack of staff. Would think twice about going back

We had a good Sunday lunch and the staff were lovely. I'd recommend the belly of pork and the apple and blackberry crumble. It's a roomy pub, too.

We had only drinks on Saturday evening. Atmosphere was really nice and barman was really friendly.

We came as a party of 10 on Thursday and couldn’t have asked for more. Robyn went above and beyond before we had even arrived at the restaurant. She helped organise our pre-orders (in her own time) and was able to converse with the kitchen to help cater for the family member who is a coeliac vegetarian! She also explained about the possible allergens in the foods, to help keep our nut allergy sufferer safe for her visit. Unfortunately on booking I must have accidentally booked for 4.30, instead of 6.30! I was phoned up on the day (when we didn’t arrive at the expected time!) and it was no hassle for the booking to be amended. Again something that didn’t have to be honoured, but it was very kind that it was. Our food was delicious, service top and the atmosphere/wait time/cleanliness etc was all top notch. Thank you to all the team for their hard work. We will definitely be back again very soon!

I haven't been to chimneys for years and thought to try out their updated menu. Food - As a vegetarian, I had the vegetarian sausage & Mash. 5/5, haven't had a meat free sausage that has been the quality that was at chimneys, I even tried to call to see if it could be purchased in supermarkets! Rest of the food was good quality and arrived hot. Waiting time - The waiting time for food to arrive was good and there wasn't a long wait. Staff - The staff has been great and high quality from both when I went there and also over the phone when I asked about the vegetarian sausages. Atmosphere - The atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful though please note I did go off-peak (around 4pm weekday). Usually when walking past its super busy and lively. Cleanliness - The place was clean and neat. Safe space - I know there are some pubs that aren't welcoming to black people or other POC. As a black person, when I went I generally felt safe and comfortable, I have also spent a lot of time there in my younger years and I believe it's the welcoming type of pubs! TLDR: If you're a vegetarian definitely go ahead and try to meat-free sausages and stay for the relaxing atmosphere and staff.

Came in on a whim for dinner - what a beautiful building. Food was alright, nothing special but acceptable value for money. What stood out the most was our waitress Sarah. She was absolutely fantastic and provides a laid back yet efficient service whilst also remaining friendly. Warning to everyone - we asked if we could pay extra on top of our bill by card as a tip but asked if she would receive a portion of this. She advised that unfortunately it wasn’t something that had been sorted by the business. This day and age, hospitality wages are not the best and tips and service charges should be given to the staff. Perhaps an improvement would be to implement the ability to pay tips via card - Sarah missed out on a tip because we didn’t carry any cash.

Absolutely amazing. Came in this afternoon with my 2 children, husband and in-laws to celebrate my father in law retiring. Kids both had a small chicken roast which they devoured, which my youngest isn’t too keen on roasts but seemed to prefer this one to my cooking! Husband had the belly pork and crackling, again, clean plate! Myself and in laws had a roast chicken. Absolutely lovely! Staff was so friendly, our server Jack was an absolute diamond and was very nice. Service was nothing less than perfect the whole meal through. Absolutely lovely atmosphere in this pub. 10/10 recommend! Will definitely be returning.

Having a table booked for today and on arrival we was greeted politely and sat at our table with ease, after being sat the waiting staff explained they had an issue with the kitchen equipment and that the menu had to temporarily be reduced. After looking at the reduced menu we went for the chicken roast, chicken and pork belly duo roast the kids had pizza which they was very happy about. The food was lovely and exactly what we expected, the chicken and pork was cooked perfectly. I really take my hat off today to all the staff that had to deal with a kitchen that could only deliver a reduced menu, during my duration there were plenty of tables being seated which shows me that for the first time eating dinner at the new chimneys shows how popular the restaurant is. I will definitely be returning full menu or not.

Had a lovely 2 course meal from their special menu. Highly recommend the fish and chips and Biscotti sundae, nothing left on the plate 😋 and for only £12! Can't wait to go back again. Thank you 😀

Great place for an inexpensive meal and lovely place to eat

The new owner is putting loads of effort in. I reckon this will become one of Ashford's more popular pubs.

What a gem of a place was in area and went for Sunday lunch with my daughter had one of the best Sunday roast beef melted in mouth veg and potatoes piping hot .my daughter had cookie dough and ice cream for afters said it was so nice .we had a lovely waitress we will definitely visit again when in area .

Visited on Saturday 15th July for my birthday with 9 other family members , between us we chose various main dishes from the menu all of which were well cooked and very good value for money , staff were all very polite and attentive made for an enjoyable family meal.

Visited today and was most impressed with our dining experience. Welcoming waiting staff, beautifully clean restaurant and to top it off the food was superb especially the hunters chicken. Couldn’t believe how quickly our food arrived. Will definitely be returning and recommending.
