Rooms are bog standard, clean but not welcoming at all

This establishment is on the hard by portsmouth harbour. Very close to the portsmouth historic dockyard. It is one of three pubs in this small area. The others are the ship and castle, the ship anson and the lady Hamilton. The reason I have listed them in that order is that is the best first! The lady Hamilton is a narrow pub which is a locals bar, with a loud and coarse customer base! I wouldn't take women or children in this bar.prices are very reasonable but furniture is very dated. Staff friendly enough but fairly slow. I only use this establishment when I can't get into the other bars/pubs nearby. So in conclusion reasonable but not recommended!

Staying at another hotel but popped in for a drink .very friendly bar staff .locals drinking so all good . very close to old navel yard (for Mary Rose/hms victory/hms warrior)100 yards/meters lot closer than hotel I picked , can't comment on food or rooms as didn't try , there is another pub close by so nice to have a drink in watch 👍

This is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for. Double room was small with bed against the wall, 1 stool available. No staff available except a very busy lady at the bar. A great deal of tooing and frowing to the sister hotel, Keppel's Head , for booking in, keys, breakfast. Worst of all, a very dirty toilet in the room, along with sweary locals, means a single star is generous, but I've added one for the Kepple's Head, where the staff, food and decor was excellent. The reception here took note of my complaint about the toilet, but this was a very mixed experience.

Popped into the pub area to get out of the cold and it was like stepping back in time - rustic charm? Could do with a bit of TLC decor wise but the service was good, the beer was good and at a good price - considering where it is located, it was nice to go somewhere without inflated prices.

Lovely place to stay as we were visiting family in Portsmouth. So convenient for the train station and all the local attractions. Very helpful and friendly staff. Traditional pub with good food and good atmosphere. Thank you.

Didn't even know this place was here. Impromptu stop for a drink on our way back to the train. A quick drink turned into roast pork. Great value and great well cooked food.

I went with family for a Sunday roast. We were not disappointed. Lovely meal great service despite being very busy. Historic place too. Good value . Recommend a visit

Didn't have a room here but we did have a marvellous welcome off Pep and his gang. So impressed we returned the next day. Sue behind the bar was lovely and chatty. Planning another trip soon.

When I was a kid around 2010, I met Adam Ant in here and had a chat with him for aboit 20 minutes this place has historic charm and a warm, inviting atmosphere, I’ll comeback in again soon haven’t been in for a few years

Popped in for a pint before the match last night. Lovely pub with a bit of a traditional feel to it. Strikes me as a locals pub but they were all very friendly. Good selection of drinks and reasonable prices.

We booked a double budget room it’s basic , clean lovely beds linen & towels , Breakfast was Amazing, This pub is a great place to spend your evening the staff could not do enough to help us - We will definitely return the atmosphere was very welcoming and Happy friendly staff who all took time to have a chat , honestly for the price it’s fantastic- outlet shopping centre across the rd , What more can you really want on the seafront

This pub is Situated opposite Portsmouth dockyard, it’s a bit shabby to look at, but the food is not bad, your sort of Typical good old English cooking at a decent price. It’s not the type of place you will need to dress up for,. The staff are very friendly

Reservé este be & be para una estadía de una noche cuando regresamos de una semana en la Isla de WightDebido a que nuestro ferry se retrasó 2 horas, contactamos con el establecimiento para informarles, nos informaron que las llaves estarían en el hotel de al lado.Llamé 30 minutos más tarde porque me había olvidado de preguntar sobre el estacionamiento. Walked into the room, nice view of the harbour and nice bathroom....then the smell of damp hit me and i noticed the black mould covering the ceiling 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 walked straight back out of room and went home instead!

Not for the faint hearted, this can be rough and ready, but friendly and full of characters. Room modern, clean, a little cold but good view across the hard Breakfast adequate but not fine. Very good value in a great position opposite the station

I visited this establishment for a breakfast which was excellent but despite advertising it was available till 11:00 am I was asked to vacate my table at 10:10 to allow for cleaning, this coupled with a refusal to look after my luggage (which I was happy to pay for) did not endear me to either the place or the staff which is a pity as the rest of my visit to the area was positive.

Popped in for lunch today. My 'better half' asked for the smothered chicken to be served with roast potatoes and veg instead of chips, coleslaw and salad. No problem was the prompt response. I had roast beef with all the trimmings. Both meals were tasty, hot and excellent value. So sorry I couldn't manage to eat all of my SEVEN roast potatoes! Oh and last but not least, mustn't forget the lovely staff who were friendly and welcoming.

Rooms situated above a pub. Little intimidating dodging past the drunken customers outside the front but the staff were friendly and reassuring and confirmed the pub shut at 11 to give residents peace and quiet.Rooms small but clean and tidy. Breakfast good. Location perfect for onward journeys being next to train and bus station and hover bus stop.

Decided to have a roast here today as have been before,but unfortunately didnt enjoy the experience food very bland the meat was lovely but thats all I can say really ,and didnt like the way the chinese lady spoke to the staff there the girls were doing there best running around like maniacs and her attitude toward them wasnt nice im afraid I would tell her what she could do with her job !!one more thing the roast was advertised as £9.50 but when we went to pay they put extra 50p on because we had a yorkshire pud and a dried up blob of stuffing ,no not for us were stick with langbrooks ....

We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a Morris weekend. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Room was clean and comfy if a tad on the squashed side. It was up two really steep flights of stairs so not recommended for the less able.Breakfast was well cooked and lovely. There is a very relaxed attitude to hospitality. It all gets done...mostly. I would stay again but I don't believe it was worth the £165.30 we paid for 2 nights.

Stayed over night altfer a show room was lovely and quiet also very clean had everything u needed very well priced also incucled breakfast which agon was lovely staff very friendly at check in and breakfast we both spelt well would definitely use again if visited the area

My friend and I came here today with our 5 year olds, for a good old roast dinner.

Mivel az egyik legolcsóbb szálloda Portsmouthban és a központban van, arra számítottam, hogy a színvonal alacsony lesz. Ehhez képest az egyik legtágasabb szobánk itt volt, kilátással a HMS Warriorra. A szobában tv, wifi, ventillátor, hajszárító, elektromos fűtő, vízforraló is volt. Nescafé, tea, ásványvíz, keksz és tisztálkodó szerek vártak minket. Emellett az árban benne volt egy kiadós angol reggeli is, ami nagyon jól esett a sok trendi vegán francia reggeli után. Maximálisan meg voltunk elégedve mindennel.

Stopped here after a visit to HMS Victory for a beer and after looking at the menu, ordered lunch. I had a chilli jacket and hubby ordered a roast beef sandwich (they do Sunday lunch here every day, which seems to be very popular and looks good too). My jacket was really nice, was supposed to come with coleslaw and salad, they must have run out as it came with a few tortilla chips, salsa, sour cream and guacamole instead, which I was more than happy with. The server also offered cheese with it too which was nice. My husband's beef sandwich was accompanied by chips and a jug of gravy, which he polished off, said his lunch was very nice.

After a friend’s recommendation I finally get to visit The Lady Hamilton. I had a roasted lunch, the portion was just right, to fuel the rest of exploration in the dock area. The staff were friendly and the hospitality was excellent.

The room offered here was awful. I would echo the comments of a previous occupant of room 1. It is situated on a dirty corridor at the back of the bar between the public toilets and two old freezers which are very noisy so you need earplugs to sleep. It was also damp. The cost of this room was £60 and was not worth £10. My advice would be to view the room before you make payment .

Full of loud, obnoxious drunk people boasting of drug use. Bedrooms are situated rigjt next to the pub toilets so it is impossible to have a peaceful night.

Not a massive menu choice but food was excellent quality, hot and plentiful. Staff were friendly and efficient, pub itself was quiet and comfortable.

We stayed overnight en route to France at Lady Hamilton. Friendly welcome but not able to have breakfast until 8am and this was too late to get so provided a sandwich instead.

Old, long slim bar catering mainly to tourists for food. Decent ales on tap but we were told to move, though we were sat at an unreserved table in the bar area. We saw a couple, with no booking, arrive after us asking for a table for food. We were asked to move, telling us that the table 'was' reserved. No apologies.They were given the table. We soon left.

Was looking for breakfast but nothing tidy was open til 11 30 so went into thisB+B who serve breakfast to the public it was very good too much for one person really and it came with a large pot of tea.

We were booked into this hotel for two nights - £70 night for a room with a double bed and breakfast, for which we paid in advance through a booking agency.

Not too impressed, went to watch World Cup football, only one ale on the bar, was supposed to get 10% discount with ID card, but not all bar staff can understand that! Spent too long waiting at bar to get served as staff were outside having a smoke break, better off at the Invincible just around the corner.

Stayed here for one night. Great location as very close to the shopping outlet and bars etc. That’s as good as I can rate this place.

We live in the area and eat there now and then, never had a bad experience, prices are about average staff always been good 👍🏻

I like the location of the pub as it is near restaurants and the sea. The breakfast was really nice and impressed that they offered a veggie breakfast and even had soya milk. However the breakfast is only served after 8am (which usually would mean I would have missed it everyday although luckily my work hours were changed for one week), so I really think they need to revise the timings! The room was a bit tired and past the kitchen and some old fridges, so that could be improved. Car parking surprisingly wasn't a problem, they give you a parking permit but places you can actually park with it are very limited to just a few bays on either road and you'll have to carry your suitcase to your room.

Called in for evening meal and couple beers on way to show at guildhall (20 min walk ) rather than going to wetherspoons ( next to guildhall ) The food here is fantastic good portions at a decent price. The only let down for me was the beer it was rank, London pride was cloudy and awful, the young barmaid behind the bar can only assume it was her first day as she was out of her depth at a busy time got no help from the other barmaid just left to get on with it. Didn't have any idea on pulling a pint. Will return fir the food but maybe soft drinks or spirits?

My husband and I called in to this pub for a quick drink after visiting the Historic Dockyard. When we arrived it was quiet but it did get much noisier when a group of men came to check in to the hotel. The pub has a feel of a cafe and there is a range of food on offer. It was fine for a quick drink.

Very tired place needs up dating, I have been bitten all over so beware !!! Wouldn’t stay there again

Visited today with the family as heard good things. Reasonably priced roasts but didn't do pudding as thought it was expensive. Our meals were out within 6 minutes so very efficient. Frozen boiled veg and Yorkshire pudding. Lamb and pork was ok but no crackling and no apple sauce. Chicken was dry and chewy and no stuffing however the roast potatoes were lovely. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Staff were good, it was very busy and they were coping well. Overall not to bad.

Dismal visit to an empty bar with a distinctly odd and unwelcoming barman. So bad we won’t be returning despite the excellent location. Have peered in window on another 2 ocassions and it’s been empty with same guy on duty, no thanks.

We had an overnight stay. First impressions were that it was very clean everywhere. We were given a very small room, and I spent a very uncomfortable night trying to sleep in a compact bed squeezed against the wall. Add to this the fact that the railway station is very near, at 4am the trains started running and were extremely noisy as they rumbled through the station, even with the window shut. Breakfast was perfectly adequate. I wouldn't recommend this place for and overnight stay if you want to get a good nights sleep.

Second time myself and my partner have eaten here and once again it did not dissapoint. My partner had chicken and leak pudding and he changed the chips to veg and cannot complain, i would have struggled to eat it, i had cheddar ploughmans lunch which once was very nice and a side order of onion rings. Cannot fault the food whatsoever and the beer is good also, will definately eat there again. Would completely revommend this place to others.

Excellent stay. The staff were so very pleasant, extremely courteous and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. They allowed us to store our luggage following check-out, as we had a daytime event to attend. The legendary Sunday roast did not disappoint. The food beautifully cooked and served within minutes of ordering. Highly recommended and we will most definitely be returning. Thank you.

We were just looking for a sandwich. Not a plush place but the value for money and welcome was marvollous . We were five young girl accomadated U.S. On a larger table told us to use all the room.

We were delighted to find that the Lady Hamilton had re opened after an absence of some 3 years and especially to find that the famous roast dinners were as good as we remembered them! The place has undergone a re vamp and has been spruced up - but the food remains at the high standard we've always remembered. Glad to see it back - and we will return regularly!

Great greeting, manager showed us to a front bedroom that was clean and well maintained. Breakfast very good. Quiet location near port. One of a few places that stays open for late guests off last ferry.

We both had the steak and ale pie. Wow, couldn't believe the size of our lunches, Both pie filling and vegetables were cooked perfectly. Spoke to to a lovely chap who's obviously a regular, can see why! We'll be back!

This establishment has a good, local reputation for its Sunday roast. I did not want the veggie option roast so had the roast beef dinner without the beef ie vegetables with a Yorkshire pudding. The choice of veg was fairly standard: potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage and swede chunks but was all well cooked and tasty. Vegetarian gravy was supplied but the stuffing was off limits as it contained meat. I was just slightly upset that my dinner cost the same (£8.95) as my carnivorous friends who had the beef, apparently I had extra veg. My dead animal carcass eating friends did report that the beef was really tasty and perfectly cooked!As a vegetarian I would not necessarily rush back here however, it is a very busy restaurant and booking is advisable if you want to make up your own mind.There is an extensive desserts menu but when we were informed it was not prepared on the premises, we decided to save the calories!Staff were friendly and helpful and the bar serves some good beers.

Good bar that was reasonably priced with good service, and handy for taxi, train and buses to get you to Fratton Park, around £8 between three of us in the taxi. We chose to drink around here because of worries about the bars around Fratton park being packed. All bars round here were busy but you got served quickly

We stumbled upon this cozy little restaurant 3 days into our trip and wish we had found it day one. Great food with incredible prices. The atmosphere is welcoming and clean. I can't say enough good things.

Only second visit since its refurbishment and re opening, first was for a drink and second was for food, myself and partner ordered a stilton ploughmans and a cheddar ploughmans with a side of onion rings. The portion was a very good size, 3 good size pieces of cheese, apple, salad and pickle with a good piece of bread and not forgetting the nice big sized pickled onion, when the food arrived especially the onion rings we were pleasantly surprised that they came with a sweet chilli dip and bbq dip which was not mentioned on the menu, and for the price you cannot complain, £7.50 for the stilton and £6.50 for the cheddar and £2.95 for the onion rings. A pint of cider and a pint of lager you got a little change from £10, but overall a very good evening of food and beer.

Twice in the last 2 weeks we have eaten at Lady Hamilton. The food is delicious and home cooked. Went their today with a friend and once again wonderful food, friendly service and couldn't fault it. No nonsense food, good hearty meals like our mums used to make. Roast potatoes delicious. Great to see the old staff are back and the new owners are delightful. Would recommend this to anyone who wants good nourishing food.

The most hospitable and friendly place I've had the pleasure to stay at. A truly local English pub with a truly English warm welcome. I came to Portsmouth on my Jack Jones, knowing no one. I liked the Lady Hamilton enough to stay for five weeks. Now I feel like family. Good food, good beer, great company

This pub has just reopened, it got nice old pictures of Portsmouth and of Lady Hamilton and of course Nelson. The bar is small but best of all the food is excellent cook and the menu is good the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Well having given this place a glowing review for its new opening I now feel I spoke too hastily.The roast dinners are still good but the salad I tried was a bit sparse for the money.I also did not realise how noisy this place could be especially if you get a few lads together shouting at each other instead of talking.This I found out to my dismay on my usual Thursday evening,it was terrible and just so loud,myself and friend could not get out quick enough.Will definitely think twice before going back when busy.

Visited yesterday and had a great time. We had the roast, and it was just as good as it used to be before the Lady Hamiltons closure. The warmth of the staff was very welcoming and friendly. The pub has been smartened up without losing the atmosphere that was the Lady Hamilton. Great improvements to the toilets too.

This is my very first time I find so rude staff in England. After asking us to pay in the bar (while we didn´t finish our drinks), they asked us again to get up and free the table so they can set up again for awaiting customers. Will never ever go back again.

After many weeks of closure the Lady Hamilton is once again open after a refurb.I was pleased that the roasts are back on the menu and sure enough are the same standard as they always were.My only criticism is that the bar area could have been better re-furbished as the mis-matched light fittings and green upholstery did the pub no favours.Im sure all the locals will slowly drift back so I wish them all the best for the future.

Used this place when it was run by Bill and Rose always highly recommended for their roasts .....so bit apprehensive about returning when it re-opened under new management but .....On visiting on a sunday with my 2 grandsons was deeply surprised ...yummy to say the least ... as if nothing had changed ...Decor has been freshened also toilets ...very pleased .....will "DEF" be returning ....Big thumbs up !!!!

It isn't haute cuisine but it is good honest pub food and the staff are very friendly. It's almost next door to the Keppels Head Hotel a five minute walk from the Historic Dockyard and represents good value for money. The interior is furnished with booths , those on the left hand side as you walk in would be a bit snug for more than 2 people but they are fine for a couple.Service was prompt, the food was piping hot all in all a good place to eat.

Heard the Lady Hamilton had re- opened so we went down yesterday to check it out bearing in mind we used it before they closed. Well what can I say - very very disappointed!!! The whole meal was frozen and microwaved - nothing on the plate was fresh!!! the only thing I would say, is that it was hot!! - there service was poor - couldn't get four deserts right, staff spent more time talking at the bar than looking after their customers!! - would we or will we go back - NO definitely not.

Está totalmente remodelado, todo es nuevo y tiene lo autentico de un sitio ingles.La gente que lo lleva es encantadora.La comida es a base de los típicos platos ingleses pero muy bien elaborada.Muy recomendable.

if your after a frozen dinner this is the place to go microwave meals not on my list to do , booths to small, looks like couple of girls got together to by a B&B, they have'nt got a clue, bar staff did'nt even know what a house wine was, very rushed service won't be going there again

I popped in to see what the lady Hamilton was like after it has been refinished. Instant first impression a lot of pictures and documents in frames. I liked the booths. London pride draught was a bit too warm and it's a cash only bar atm. I liked the bar, toilets albeit a bit garish are very clean......time will tell.
