We just stopped for one drink. We do plan to return to try the food. The views were just lovely, as is evidenced in some of my photographs.

I apologise for the delay in this review. I would like to say a huge thank you to Sam, Julie and Chris who helped me out of a huge panic and delivered excellent service and hospitality, for a Bridal Shower I was organising. 3 weeks before the date we were let down last minute, and spice islands team come to the rescue, not only did they fit us in last minute, we were given the full buffet menus choice, and all my requests were never too much trouble! All my guests commented on how delicious the food was! I want to thank the servers who always made sure there were at hand but never intrusive, we had the most wonderful time and made a day of wonderful memories. Thank you all Sarah and bridal party.

Wife ordered a Sirloin Steak medium rare. Came out done as done could be. Sent it back, same plate retired with an explanation that the chef can't cook another as it will be done the same way! Why ask how you want it cooked then? In any case, meal returned and a salad ordered in replacement! Came across a bit more like trying to convince my wife to jusy accept the over cooked meal. My steak cibatta was OK, with minimum filling, but it was cheap, so that explains that. Rest of the meals were OK. Kids cod and chips was massive and spot on. Beer was good, but what could go wrong. Was expecting more from reviews and adverts. I'll return for a beer and eat opposite.

Lovely place! Had a little problem with food but the staff sorted it out for us, and Janice even gave us desert on the house! The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is just amazing! ✨️ Would definitely recommend to try! 💯

Family of 7 meal they were very accommodating Finley our server even put a fan out to cool our granddaughter down as it was very hot. Food was excellent with amazing service definitely recommend to family and friends

I had a great experience, thanks in large part to the exceptional service from Mia. From the moment I walked in, Mia was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. Her warm and welcoming attitude really stood out, and she went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. The food and drinks were also excellent, but it was Mia's great service that made our time at spice island inn truly memorable. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We held our wedding reception here as the pub itself is gorgeous with incredible views of the harbour and dockyard. Sam was our guy, and having spoken with Jenessa up until the day, they ensured everything was as expected. We were not able to decorate the night before so we had to do with decorating that morning. That said, the venue is so beautiful, we didn’t need much. Sam was fantastic, serving behind the bar and running around ensuring everything was on time. The food was amazing and very well served and received! If I could make one suggestion, it would be to have labels on the food but other than this (and it’s not a criticism) it was perfect. We visit the pub on average once a month for a drink/food and as it happened we came for dinner the day after our reception. Food and service is always spot on! Thank you all!

Great location, abysmal service

Come here every time we visit Portsmouth. Staff are super attentive and friendly (helped my mum with her gluten free menu choices). Prices are reasonable. Plenty of inside and outside seating, a combination of picnic style benches out the front with umbrellas or tables for 4. You can take your drinks across the quiet road to the harbour wall. Great for watching the water traffic, and perfect view of the Spinnaker. We ordered food at 12.30 OK a Sunday lunch on a very busy hot day, food arrived in less than 30mins.

Had the most enjoyable lunch, watching the clippers return from "around the world" race. Wonderful views as they came in from the Solent, from the upstairs seating area, and Harry, our waiter, looking after all our needs. What a great asset he is to the Spice Island..... thank you very much Harry.

I visited on Monday evening and the service was spectacular. I was served by Andre and Elliot who were very welcoming and friendly. Andre made our whole night very enjoyable. I had the Spice Island burger and my friend had the fish and chips. We both loved our meals and had a great evening. Will be coming back soon!!!

Wonderful lively pub with large outdoor seating area for warm sunny days or comfortable interior seating where it is pleasant to eat. Staff were super friendly, obliging, and helpful. We had our dog with us, & they made sure he had a bowl of water and offered him dog treats. The food we ordered was very good; tasty, plentiful, and quickly prepared. I can recommend the nachos and the mussels.

Just popped in for a drink and some chips. Very nice and helpful team. Nice portion of chips, very tasty.

Waited over 45mins for food . Ladies toilets dirty should have some one checking them.no toilet paper..

Lovely pub right on the seafront, watched the Fastcat berth, and lots of people enjoying the sunshine...Lovely pub great food and lovely staff.

This is a super spot to be outdoors on a sunny day to enjoy the busy quayside activities, or inside on a winter's day, cozily tucked in the pub. We experienced both outdoors for beers, then inside for a plentiful delicious pub lunch. The staff are super friendly, attentive, and helpful. We had our dog with us , who was as welcomed as we were. He was given both a water bowl and doggy treats. A lively pub with a super festive atmosphere, yet not noisy.

Tend to visit once a year when visiting the hospital, this year twice in 4 days as we had family in Portsmouth to board a ferry to France. Spice Isle can be a bit noisy sat outside but it's generally our pref. Gd. food and beer, quirky location with ferries passing by as you're eating lunch. No doubt we'll be back tho.

Good choice of beers, perfect location for a sunny day, but do yourself a favour and don’t eat here, unless Covid damaged your ability to taste. Don’t believe the clueless reviews, barely passes as kid’s food.

Lovely spot on the seafront especially with some sun and the staff are lovely enough. Food average but expensive at £14.95 for a small serving of veg chilli. More expensive and not as good as Kin in central London

For £18 you can have a ready made, cooked from frozen, dank cod with chips. The server will also stick his thumb in both of the dishes as he carries your plate over and the proceed to to try and take You plate away while you are still eating it. Bad form, bad place to eat. Smelled like a moldy old pub. Will never eat here again

Good pub for lunch, good food , good service ,reasonably priced

Very nice position right at the harbour mouth so you can spend time watching all the ships go by. The food is a cut above the usual pub chain standard and the service is very good. Primarily seems a pub for the younger generations but we had a nice meal and enjoyed the views.

Excllent ,pub right on the harbour entranc approach, been here twice for a navy veterans reunion, the staff and management are so friendly and polite,and made our reunions ones to remember nothing is difficult for the pub a big thank you to J

We went in last weekend for a meal. Was great to meet Chris, our waiter. Very funny, polite, and very professional. We will return.

We came here a few weeks ago on the off chance we’d get a table with my in laws and the family. We were greeted by a young lady called Janessa who was fab! She was so welcoming and organized a table straight away for us, making sure it was all set up asap as we had very hungry little ones with us! Nothing was too much trouble! The food was lovely! And service was fantastic! Thankyou so much we will deff be back!!

Great pub, lovely atmosphere. Food very tasty but the portion sizes are smaller than you'd expect for the price.

Food was cooked to perfection, me and my family was around the area and we hadn’t visited here in a while. The staff and food was all lovely and I’m excited to come here again. We all ordered from the specials and everyone enjoyed their meal, very grateful to the team for a memorable meal.

Four of us came here for some food on a Sunday evening. We arrived about 7.40 and ordered some drinks and asked what time food was served till, we were told last orders at 8pm, so we sat down and read the menu. 2 of us went to the bar and ordered at about 7.45, and the remaining 2 a minute later. About 15 minutes later the first 2 orders arrived, and the waiter told us the other 2 orders won't be coming as it was now past 8 o'clock, I politely pointed out that we had ordered and paid for our meals and could I speak to the manager? A few minutes later the waiter came back and asked if anyone had seen us, as to which I replied no. He then said that the chef had had a strop (or words to that effect) and we will be getting our meals after all. The final 2 meals arrived about 10 minutes later. What a total shambles, and the food was average at best. I won't be returning. If you want to check your records it was table 4 on the 12th of May. Let me guess your cut and paste response. "it's upsetting to hear that you did not receive the top-notch service we strive to provide."

Last minute find on a Friday night, not many in but good food, decent wine, solo singer and a view of the ferry arriving. Perfect evening.

Nice and friendly atmosphere, it was very busy and we had to wait for a seat but what do you expect considering it’s a weekend and a busy location. Great time had on a Saturday afternoon in the sun 💛

Had the cheeseburger. The cheese had split, the burger was too dry and had some cartilage in it, and the bun was slightly burnt. Good & quick service and great atmosphere, I guess this would be a good place for drinks. My friend had the fish cakes and he said it's the first time he's had a "chewy and rubbery" one. He didn't like it very much either.

Spice Island is situated within Old Portsmouth, positioned perfectly, with great views of the spinnaker tower. Usual menu choices for a pub. Order your food choice at the bar. The food was tasty. The best place to be on hot summer day is sitting outside watching boats and ships come and go.

A great location in Old Portsmouth.

Nice pub, came on a Friday only downside was live music was quite loud so couldn't chat with our group well and the music wasn't very upbeat. Pub is really nice once live music ended, just a chilled atmosphere, really clean and friendly.

Nice pub at the entrance of historic Portsmouth Harbour, where you can see all manner of merchant, commercial and naval vessels going in and out of port. Also, about £1 a pint cheaper than the rip off Fullers pub next door.

Very nice pub on the waterfront, I ordered on the Green King app as I had 3 kids with me,If they were very busy,I could understand a wait,I ordered ay 13.50, its now 14.20,and still no sign of our order,Just not good enough.

I came in today with the family and I can’t rate this restaurant enough, would recommend to anyone looking for a well-priced, enjoyable meal. We ordered rib-eye which was cooked to perfection, and crab burger which was very different for us but also delicious. Thank you to the staff for making it a very enjoyable day out with the family and for anyone looking for a good cooked meal, I highly recommend!

Nice little pub, great views too. Nice place for people watching. Interior really needs help. Some seating needs reupholstered or replacing but it didn't affect our experience. We're not local so the staff called a taxi for us, really helpful.

Organised an 80 birthday Sunday lunch for 18 people. From making the booking, to pre-ordering and the excellent service from all the staff on the day made the occasion a most enjoyable one. Great little pub staff is always so friendly me and my partner has been here a few times over the last few weeks and always been welcome by George and the team 1000% recommendations for food and and few drinks really nice pub and dog friendly!

Called in during a Friday evening on the off-chance and were welcomed and shown a table. The food which was steak and ale pies in our case were great - and piping hot. Friendly staff, stunning views of the harbour and live music in the bar. All in all, an excellent evening!

Lovely lunch at Spice Island, nice portion of fish & chips with bread & butter on the side! Food was lovely and hot. Good prompt service after food had been served they checked with us that everything was satisfactory. The restaurant welcomed our dog, she was given a bowl of water and there were doggy treats too. Nice friendly atmosphere.

Food was really good. Good size portion, tasty, well cooked and presented plus value for money. Only not so good thing was we were given a round table with a circular bench seat which was very torn and in bad repair. Also although staff were polite and pleasant they didn't once ask for if things were ok and we couldn't find anyone to thank and say goodbye to.

Went to the spice island inn yesterday for the first time in a while and all i can say is the food was sensational! best steak i’ve ever had .. will definitely be back ! Highly recommend
