Great food, great service and good prices

Typical Spoons, cheap beer, and food. One of the better spoons that I've visited also has a great view of the marina.

I mean, it's a Wetherspoons so you know what to expect.... but the breakfast is one of the best around!

My associate and I decided to have brunch here on a Saturday morning around 10 am. One decided to try the eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were hard boiled and no flavours at all to the whole dish, so much so I only managed a few mouthfuls. A few weeks later we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Wrong decision. This time one chose the freedom breakfast. It arrived minus the mushrooms, tomatoes and eggs. We were then informed that they had run out of eggs, I ask you. Would not recommend a visit. Totally appalling.

As usual, good food and friendly service. A bit noisy, but was Saturday and busy.

The experience is everything you should expect in a busy , friendly pub. Sensibly priced food and drink and everybody just having a good time.

Went in about 14.00hrs and still a few diners, but plenty of choice in tables and apart from 2 old couples on the table behind showing videos on their phones, quite quiet. Food is great as always and really pleasant staff.

Like most Wetherspoons it's a solid pub with low priced, a good range of drinks and an extensive menu of reasonable price pub food.

This lost one star because it's not dog friendly which would have been fine, but you can't even sit outside with your dog, which is stupid.

I stopped here in November for fish and chip meal and a drink. The meal was well cooked but so small, I asked the server if this was a large fish and she said it was. The fish was always a good size, it was so thin, it must of been on a diet. I stopped here on the 3 Febuary and had a large breakfast, what a difference, beautifully cooked and a good portion of food. I was certainly impressed and reviewed my thoughts on this pub. I can honestly say this was the best meal I have had for quite a few years in a pub. Looking forward to going back, hope its the same chef.

Ordered steak (rare) and one medium rare. The rare was over done. Both steaks had been seasoned however they were overly seasoned and made food impossible to eat. On the plus side we were offered a refund.

Food is always hit and miss here, some chefs seem capable of cooking well, other times food is often undercooked or ingredients on pizza missing. Today tables were dirty downstairs, no one attending to downstairs, no napkins available to clean our own table and the coffee machine left with no milk. Upstairs is often crowded and too noisy to hear yourself think.

It's always really busy in here, quick service nice and bright inside and it has outside tables for when it's nicer weather.

Always good food and excellent value for money.

At the end of the day it's a spoons so it's never going to be a la cart but I think everyone expects that! You do however get a good meal for what you pay and the breakfast is a prime example, for the price you pay it's a decent traditional English breakfast and for a little extra get a coffee with free refills, what more can you want on a cold morning. Afterwards have a walk around the port to work off the calories, well worth a visit 😁

After a long sea journey it was a pleasure to go into the Sir Alec Rose staff were friendly and the early morning breakfast was excellent.Will definitely return

Cheap and cheerful like most spoons

The reason why the food was 3 stairs it's because the fish and the garlic bread was too crispy I did eat it but it wasn't the best the service was ok felt bad for the men just because he was by himself down stairs when their should be two workers down stairs just incase something happens

Another spoons sitting right on the marina at Port Solent. There are numerous tables over two floors to look out over the boats in the marina or you have the same two levels inside to enjoy this lovely and bright spoons. Didn't really get a chance to chat to the staff here very much as it was quite busy, but they seemed as cheerful as usual. The Guinness was good.

The 'Sir Alec Rose' is nicely located in the marina. Most recently, I was disappointed with the portion size of my fish and chips, even though I ordered the larger option. The fish fillet was rather small and thin, and there was a modest amount of chips and mushy peas, I think the chef must be used to serving Ethiopians. However, everything was cooked perfectly; the fish had a delightful, crispy golden batter and was delicious. The chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside, the peas were well-seasoned and of excellent consistency, and everything was served hot. I also like that all sauces are quality branded & not cheap catering rubbish often served elsewhere. Considering the meal cost £11.61, including a pint of Leffe (which is £5.50 alone), the value was very reasonable even given the meagre portion. I especially like the app ordering system, and the food arrived promptly, served by friendly staff. I have dined here several times, and aside from the occasional cold breakfast, I always find "The Sir Alec Rose" a nice place to visit.

A great lunch today. We had a mishap and knocked a full glass of beer off the table which smashed on the floor. The episode was cleaned up swiftly and cleanly by Jake who bought us a replacement beer free of charge!!!! Wow where else can you get service as good as this! Great food, great place and excellent staff! Well done love this place!! Best Wetherspoons around!!!

Ordered the new sticky Korean fries chicken bowl LOOKED bloody lovely when it arrived … had to complain as it was stone cold not even the bowel had any heat in it … waitress said “oh it’s the sauce it’s poured on cold so makes the dish cold “ SORRY GUYS if you can work out the simplicity of heating up the sauce before service … we as an industry are finished 🫣🫣🫣

Lovely and quiet midweek, good place to have a quick bite before a film. Cheap and cheerful. 23/11/24 - unfortunately when you visit on a busy Saturday things change a bit. The other half ordered the Xmas burger and the brie was cold straight from the fridge and not melted. The side of halloumi that was ordered and paid for never arrived, I went to the bar and enquired, the bar staff went to check and nothing came of it. The pizzas come out uncut, which is a bit of a pain in the arse trying to cut with a knife and the cheese coming straight off with it.....so why are they not cut? Just a bit frustrating 😑

I enjoyed a lovely breakfast & coffee with my friend here. It was my first visit & I'm definitely going to go there again.

This is a well located pub, love the harbour view and is a good spot to smash a couple of beers, can be tricky getting served at the bar sometimes easier to use the app, only let down is the swarm of flies that hover around the bar clearing station.

Bad service and had food don't come here

First visit: Lovely place and location. Great view over the marina. Edit. Returned 2 months later. Paid £8 for 2 bowls of chips. Worst ever tasteless dry and quite a few burnt ones. How can you enjoy???

Typical Wetherspoon. It is very convenient for breakfast when parking overnight at Port Solent after getting off the ferry. It is right beside the car park and opens at 8am for breakfast. The food was well cooked and the staff were very pleasant.

Not always a top Weatherspoons fan but can't deny VFM. Plus some extra benefits in this venue. Check out the Noodle soup: benefits fron some fairly simple - and healthy - ingredients, combining perfectly well to tingle your tastebuds! Simplicity works well! ( Few strims of fresh chilli to leave you gasping for water!! ) Fun at great price in especially nice location at Port Solent. X

I honestly don’t think anyone that works here knows what’s going on. Staff member at the bar was rude and blatantly ignored my dad when he went up to order, rudely asked “what do you want” when we asked to order then put the wrong table number down after being corrected multiple times. Told manager about complaints only to be treated like she couldn’t care less. I have worked in customer service for four years, it’s not that difficult to be polite. Don’t bother coming here, waste of time.

Good stop on the way to ferry terminal. Drinks and food very reasonable. Met up with a friend from Gosport.

No Eggs come on wetherspoons,not the first time either, doesn't help being told 'not my fault love I don't lay them.'not a brilliant meal an egg may of helped a dry meal go down a little easier, won't be coming back.

Have eaten here a few times now, but breakfast on Sunday 8th September was not great. It's always busy on a Sunday morning, as usual they had run out of mugs, so we were given takeaway cups. We had miners benedict, muffins were burnt, eggs were hard and black pudding full of gristle. We also had a vegetarian full breakfast, beans were cold and eggs were like rubber. We probably won't bother to go back anytime soon.

Typical average pub with a good selection of drinks and mass produced food. It ticked the box for convenience but I would not go there for the food if I wanted a higher quality meal. Lady at the bar was very friendly and helpful.

Its the closest you can get to Cannes while still being 10 minutes from central Portsmouth. Parking free, motor shows held every couple of weeks, love a spoons but this is one of the best ones especially when the sun is shining.

Lovely views, nice food. Advised when we first arrived there would be slow service, no problem we weren't in a rush.

The main bar is upstairs, so you are already there when you need the toilet. Outside verandah is pleasant on a sunny day if a bit breezy. Usual spoons food selection, but the beer menu is sadly sparse with only the most common choice of ales, when available. Lagers and keg ales seeming to be more popular amongst the yachty types. Unlikely to return.

Great location for a get-together with friends.

A wide choice of food on the menu and it was good value. My family enjoyed their dishes. There was one problem however. The pub advertised their salad as 'chicken and bacon'...but the chicken was battered/breadcrumbed nuggets, not unprocessed pieces. As I have a gluten intolerance, this was a big disappointment and I had to try and cut the chicken out of the batter, which wasn't easy and I gave up. If they could please, please clearly write that the chicken is in batter/breadcrumbs so other people don't get a disappointment like I did. Something like 'chicken nuggets and bacon salad', otherwise we'll assume it is unprocessed chicken pieces. The other allergens are clearly marked on the menu so I'm not sure why this one wasn't?

Have to say I had been to weight watchers and needed a light meal I had poached eggs on a bagel with advocado. He even got me some lemon juice out the kitchen for me. I was going to have a coffee,but had a fruit cider instead. It was about 11.00 so not very busy. Very pleasant and helpful staff as I had my walker with me the barman even offered to move table out for me . As there was only about ten people in the pub It may bother some people going in a pub by themselves but when it's quite empty and at 70 years old who cares. ...

Had a lovely meal here. The service was great and very fast. Our food was very nice, hot, tasty and plenty of it. Saturday evening here is a busy time and we happened to be near some very loud ladies. It didn't spoil our meal, but we will think about the times we use it next time. Otherwise, very highly recommend this place.

Was quite today when we visited. The pub was clean and tidy. Staff were polite and friendly. The food was hot, and good value for money.

It was a Tuesday. We were there to kill time and to celebrate as we just finished moving to another accommodation. Lovely to be sat outside enjoying the sun and a bit of sea breeze. Service was fast. Steaks were good and seasoned well. Condiments are on the side, pick whatever you like. You can order through Wetherspoon app and scan the QR code. We were quite happy to order by the till.

Can't beat a 'Spoons for value! We didn't eat, just a drink after work for a great group of chums. Pleasant enough glass of white at £4 was all I had, but staff cheery, view of the boats at Port Solent stunning.

Not Dog Friendly. The only place in Port Solent, you can't sit outside with your pooch. Pay a bit more, and go to another venue in port solent, and take your dog.

Wetherspoon's in a very nice location looking over Port Solent. Food is typical pub food reasonably priced. Can get very busy at peak times.

Great location, and great service

This was by FAR the worst piece of meat and burger we have ever had! The steak was supposed to be medium rare. It was burnt, had no spice and VERY chewy! The burger patty was burnt. Almost no meat! I will never ever come here again. If I could give them a minus 10 I would

We visited Port Solent and intended to stop at Weatherspoons for a quick lunch. Firstly we used their WC facilities which can only be described as disgusting. The ladies toilet looked like a bomb had hit it and to top that it was dirty, no filthy. My husband said the mens was not much better. Needless to say we went elsewhere. I hope Weatherspoons take note and act quickly. Goodness knows what the rest of the place is like!!

Staff really friendly, and the view is very tranquil and calming. Food also great.

Fast service, food for the price is good, had a breakfast and lunch there recently, free soft drink refills. Would have given them 5☆ but they still don't allow dogs even outside😡

Food was sort of ok. The lady behind the bar who was also serving food was run off her feet and doing a Sterling job. More atmosphere at a wake, but that was the other customers not the pub. All in all ok but don't think I'll return any time soon. Sorry.

Food was appalling and when I asked for a replacement the manger was abusive. What a shame as venue is amazing, but there is no excuse for rude staff.
