Prince of Wales in Elmbridge

This is genuinely one of the nicest pubs in Surrey, beautiful refurb, lovely beer garden, nice food. Unfortunately it's sometimes let down by staff. On some occasions they're slow to serve, other times they're not clued in to menu options or seating plans. We had one instance where we had questions about the Mothers Day menu and the server clearly had to guess (and admitted it was a guess) until I asked if he could check with the manager/supervisor, who was clued in and very nice. If the staff could just be a little bit more on the ball this would be a 10/10 pub.

Nice pub but terrible service and food experience. Maybe an off day. This place has recently been refurbished to a very high standard but I’ve been there times now and yet to go without there being something wrong. Today had a multitude of issues: 1. Roast was very average. Beef over cooked and veg bland. Looked the same on tables around us. 2. Ordered gluten free and got a plate with a huge Yorkshire pudding on. 3. Very lengthy wait for food 4. Every table around us was complaining which didn’t help the atmosphere 5. We actually agreed not to add to the complaints and just leave as we could tell it was a busy day and the management clearly just over estimated their ability to run a full service. However whilst we had waited about 10-15 mins for the waitress to bring the card machine after we asked (and got) the bill, another waitress asked us to hurry up as they needed the table back!!! The only reason we were there is because we’d waited so long at every turn. The absolute cheek. Only thing stopping this being 1 star is the main waitress was lovely despite the whole operation collapsing today and the pistachio affogato being very good.

Had mother‘s day brunch. Very slow service and long wait. Quality of the dishes was mediocre, avocado contained skin and end but. No tahini on overpriced yoghurt bowl, burnt toast and inedible hash browns. Money was deducted from the final bill but not enough.

Stuff dragged us to a few computers to find our booking. we were a big group that was annoying 😑 ahe lady served us had not good manner did not tidy up the table just add glasses there was not space on the table

A beautiful recently renovated pub. Just had a lovely post walk dinner with our pooch. Burgers were super tasty and juicy. Good cider on tap and a delicious tart te tan with the best raspberry sorbet. Attentive staff and quick service. We will be back!

Since the refurbishment, this pub has gone from strength to strength. Lovely warm atmosphere, 4 open fires and welcoming smiles. Food consistently good. New manager Pascal has bought his customary energy & professionalism to the establishment. Keep it up Pascal! K & S 29/3/25

Great pub with lovely outdoor space , friendly good service

It's quite a nice pub, but all the food for us came out cold, but we were too hungry to complain because our table was delayed. The portions are small as well: avoid the fish pie. 3 pieces of fish with some mash for £20. Also the gluten free bread was clearly just out of the freezer and barely thawed. Wine and beer is ok. Come for drinks (if anything) and avoid the food. Also if you're coeliac make sure you ask how the food comes. My girlfriend ordered the fish and chips and we found out it came without batter, thankfully this was before we ordered. TLDR: overpriced and cold food with average drinks.

Cold welcome at Bar- ordering 3 drinks appeared to be a hassle for the Barman. Drink order forgotten. When reordered arrived And still not completely correct- we only ordered two coffees and a juice! Won’t be returning! Shame.

Lovely to see how the pub has been renovated, not having been there for many years. We sat in the Orangery which was beautiful in the sunshine and the monkfish scampi and mussels were delicious. Good choice of wines. Friendly service. Easy to park.

Lovely food, friendly staff and a clean venue but food took a long time to arrive. We arrived at noon, were shown to our table by a distracted manager. Our mains came out at 1.15 a full hour and a quarter later. Perhaps they were going for a relaxed Sunday vibe but it felt more like they were too busy for the kitchen. We were the first table to arrive and we had match tickets so had to leave after bolting our mains. It would have been nice to know that it was going to be slow. We would happily eat there again but would avoid a Sunday and would allow a lot more time so that we could enjoy three full courses

Unfortunately, a few items on the menu were not available (the ones we wanted to order, so we had to go with our second choice). The food was good and the service was excellent.

All I have to say is staff need customer service training as they are just damn straight rude

This recently renovated pub is all about looks and not about substance or quality. The drinks are your average pub, the non-alcoholic cocktails a disappointment (essentially sweet syrups with soda water). But the worst is the food. The menu reads like a posh Michelin star restaurant, the reality is everything is way too expensive and very average quality. The Camembert was from Sainsbury's. We paid £8 for a nibbling plate made of half a fried potatoe and a sprinkle of parmesan. Kids meals are also overpriced. Another £8 for 2 mini sausages that wasn't enough for a 7 year old. I wish they'd spent more on developing a solid menu and less on making it look and sound "exclusive".

DELICIOUS FOOD, STAFF ARE VERY NICE. FAMILY FRIENDLY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

wish i could give 0 stars as i didn’t even get served after waiting there for about 10 years to not be acknowledged in the slightest but it’s okay to serve the 3 people that clearly come up to the bar 15 mins after us. great stuff lads keep it up 👍

We’ve been here twice and both times had a bad experience. The first time we asked if there was a table we could sit at to get a small bite to eat. They sat us on a table with another couple and when a free table came up we asked if we could move to it, to which a staff member who didn’t come across friendly at all said he’d have to check. He then proceeded to come over with a reserve sign and smacked it down and just said ‘reserved’ and then just walked off. We didn’t bother getting food after that and finished our drink and went. We decided today to give it a second try and it was no better. We were waiting for ages at the bar to get served and people that were coming up to the bar after us were getting served before us?! They didn’t even acknowledge us so we decided to just leave. Such a shame because it’s a 25 min drive for us to come here and the service is awful.

Food above average . Service under par - very slow even though it was not busy, plus the waitress stood chatting to other diners she knew and we had to find our own menus . Won’t return . Need to do better I’m afraid

This pub certainly looks amazing and inviting after its retrofit, and the interior decor is stunning ... but unfortunately the food was a great disappointment for us. Two of us ordered the baked aubergine, which had the thickest, toughest skin I've ever had the misfortune to eat – to the point where it was actually too thick for my Dad to eat, so he was left trying to scrape the flesh off the skin ... without much success. Additionally, aside from a few blobs of sauces, some herbs and pea shoots, that was basically all this dish consisted of – no extra sides or anything, just an aubergine cut in half and roasted. Like one of the other reviewers also stated, vegetarian (or in this case vegan) dishes can be sensational culinary experiences, bursting with incredible flavours, dishes that leave you satisfied and full ... but all too often, the ingredients are put together without much thought or imagination. This dish sounded intriguing on the menu, but it really didn't deliver, or fill us up – not surprising given the main ingredient was one small aubergine! To help fill us up, we ordered a side of skinny chips, but they were incredibly over-salted – all 3 of our party felt the same, so it wasn't just personal taste. So we told the waitress the chips were inedibly salty and asked for an unsalted portion. A long 20 minutes later they finally arrived, and they tasted very nice, as they should have tasted to start with ... but we had all finished eating the rest of our food by then. To my surprise when it came to pay the bill, we'd been billed for two lots of chips ... I would have thought telling them the first portion was inedible and that we wanted them to be replaced would have given them the hint that we weren't satisfied with them, and so wouldn't be expectied to pay for them! After requesting a refund for the first portion, I also asked for the 12.5% tip to be removed from the bill as I didn't feel the dining experience was worth it. That said, we did tip our waitress separately in cash as she was faultless and very apologetic for the quality of the food ... although she did mention in passing that the aubergine was never very popular so they were removing it from the menu ... maybe some staff should have tried eating it to find out why it was so unpopular! Oh and finally, both the toilets in the gents were blocked up and on the verge of overflowing so we reported this on the way out. We will not be returning again soon sadly, not until the vegetarian food (and even something as simple as correctly-seasoned chips) has had a serious and thought-through overhaul.

Awful Sunday lunch. The food was overpriced with small portions and served lukewarm. Service was not good, they just didn’t have enough staff and it really showed. We will definitely not be returning!

Woeful experience. Waited for a stupid amount of time to be served and the time since ordering food to actually arriving was beyond a joke. On top of that, overpriced. Kids veg sticks portion I genuinely snorted laughing at when it arrived. 6-7 tiny bits of veg and a bowl of humus …. Waitress spilt my wife’s wine and didn’t sort out topping back up Genuinely feel like I have been robbed for what was received & experienced. Normally am not one to hold back in person, however with my young children present I refrained. £20 for some chicken and chips which was basically only flavoured with a lather of salt …. Lacked the garlic and rosemary mentioned on the menu Multiple of the basic / go to’s were not available …. No burgers available And to top it off, 1 portion of kids pasta when I have 2 kids sitting there 🤣

Family lunch at the Prince of Wales was delicious. Suki who served us had the perfect approach, helped us with our choices and was just lovely. Beautiful decor and seating - will definitely be back soon.

Went for Sunday roast with a friend. I had the pork belly and was really nice and loved the roasted beetroot which came out with the veg(although could have been a bit bigger portion) quite small!! My friend had the turkey which wasn’t on the menu but was offered it. Unfortunately on this occasion he refused to eat any of it as the turkey looked to be a professed roll with little meat around a bit of stuffing. To be fair I thought straight away that it didn’t look very appetising! Also the rest of his food was cold. The staff were very polite and understanding. So will def go back as mine was so nice. Although they could be a little quicker next time bringing out the extra gravy we asked for as they were extremely small pots. Oh yes and got given an empty jar of horseradish sauce and obviously forgot to bring more out when asked. Hopefully all will be better next time.

Went for Sunday lunch even though had to wait a while for our food . Seeing other customers came and served wasn’t to bad with the good experience of a lovely waitress called Elle keeping up updated and served us really well with good experience and lovely welcoming smile , very professional

Thank you for a wonderful meal and service tonight at the Prince of Wales. El our server was superb and the food was delicious. The atmosphere in here is great and the vibe in here is great for both dining or for a drink at the bar. There was also live music as well. The decor is stunning and excited to return in the summer as well and sit outside. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Well lunch was overpriced ,6,mussels and a few small squares of fat bacon ,lots of confusion over white wine glass size .the service was fine .Gastro ? oven not working.

My partner and I visited for a Sunday roast - when I say this is the best Sunday roast I have had in the UK since we moved here! The service was outstanding, such great bar staff, loads of laughs! We both went for the Beef Sunday roast and a cocktail - delectable! Thank you all for the lovely experience and food.

This is a beautiful pub in a lovely area. We were greeted very warmly and had fabulous service. However, as a group of 5 with two veggies in the group the food fell very short. There’s not one decent, filling, appealing veggie starter(s). It’s greasy cauliflower bites or salad. The mains are really poor. A vegan burger. A baked vegetable with grain (all of our worst nightmares- just so boring and unsubstantial) or a salad. We’re not rabbits! Please understand we also love rich, filling dishes. Not lettuce, grain, seeds and one vegetable baked. Please offer a few pasta options too. We are so often the deciders when booking restaurants, please offer more and better variety for the many non meat eaters as we would love to return. We just left feeling hungry!

This is the 2nd year running we’ve had our staff Christmas party at the POW, and i can honestly say they outdo themselves each year. The food, service and ambience were 10/10. Thank you to Charlie, Phil, Ellie,Willa and Lily and and the rest of the team for making it such a special evening.

Beautifully designed, dog friendly gastro pub with professional staff and a very interesting menu. Unfortunately on the evening we visited the food coming out of the kitchen disappointing. The n'duja scotch egg was more like a regular scotch egg, the saffron aioli was very light on the garlic and both the Korean fried cauliflower and monkfish scampi were more greasy than crispy. Nothing bad enough to complain about but nothing good enough to warrant a return visit either, which is a shame as the venue itself is really impressive.

We had a lovely lunch at the PoW to celebrate friends birthday. The food and service was great, Willa our server was very helpful . We will be back

After so many poor reviews we thought we would try POW for dinner. Menu was good and selection broad and interesting however; - orangery was very cold - we all wore jackets - a tasty sharing plate with not a lot on it for £31 ! - all our dishes were luke warm - lamb ragu was greasy mince bolognaise - fish pie OK but would be better in a flatter dish ? With a bit of cheese on top ! - venison loin was good and tasty On a positive note the pudding was wonderful and our service excellent. Always difficult to rate pub food as its often brought centrally and is very samey but if the POW want to charge these prices they need to up their game.

Very nice but not cheap. The town of West End where it's situated is also nice to see.

One of the best pub locally, good service and atmosphere!

Arriving at around 1pm I expected the bar to be busy, this should have been a warning. It gave an instant feel of deserted, without the fire alarm. After some minutes , I was able to order drinks and I was a bit shocked by the price, Having obtained a menu I joined my group at a table, only to be told that it would more convenient for staff if we moved to the "Orangery". At this point I felt that I was being a nuisance and my inclination was to leave, my group persuaded me to comply. A limited menu but fish dishes were off today. Our selection was delivered in about 20 mind and while perfectly cooked was very basic and without any side salad or even garnish.. I felt very let down by the whole experience. Just for info ,we regularly meet for lunch usually most Fridays and enjoy meals and drinks at various hostelries' in the Weybridge Walton area. This place will not be on my list to revisit.

We booked a family lunch for 8 people. The experience was wonderful from start to finish. The service was friendly yet professional and all the food and drinks were fantastic. We've driven past this place so many times but this was our first time trying it. We will certainly be back!

03/01/25. Bar staff perfect! The manager however clearly didn’t get a visit from Santa! The guy is rude. obnoxious. Just because you have the “title” Manager (for no obvious reason) doesn’t give you the right to act like Mussolini. Not having enough staff to cater for customers is not the customers fault and I wonder why you lack the sufficient staff?? Maybe your superiors should question this!

Our first visit since the pub has been renovated. The pub is lovely and the waitress friendly although service was a bit slow. Unfortunately the food was a grave disappointment. The chips were cold and after sending back the next serving were undercooked. The beef pie was swimming in grease and what pastry there was was inedible. We won't be returning or recommending.

I regularly visit the prince of wales and love the atmosphere of the pub. The staff have always been warm and welcoming. But this review is based on a recent visit for a Sunday roast, where we were served by the lovely, Ella. I couldn't let her service go unnoticed and just had to leave a review to commend her incredible hospitality. I have managed restaurants/pubs before, therefore I notice the small things and it usually takes a lot to impress me. Ella was warm, welcoming and attentive, without being overpowering. She was on the ball constantly and was picking up on even the smallest details. A smile was always on her face, and nothing was too much trouble. Even after I struggled to decide on a drink, she was quick to recommend the specials and the most popular cocktails without being asked or seeming like she was pushing for an expensive sale. Incredibly professional! Ella seemed to genuinely be happy interacting with customers and working, which was so lovely to see and made all the difference. It made for a very happy, calm environment and all in all, a very enjoyable experience. She really went above and beyond. Thank you Ella!

Have had my issues with this pub in the past- previously food has been below par and service shocking but on this occasion a completely different story and all down to one individual- Craig our server- I was apart of a large group of 15 there for Xmas drinks and food- we were bass in one of the nice new back areas which are ideal for large groups- he went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after all evening and worked his socks off! He was pleasant and jovial the whole time, Courteous and attentive constantly and made the evening a very nice one! Give that guy a Christmas bonus!

I recently went to the Prince of wales for couple of drinks and food. Well can I just say that the service was absolutely amazing Philip took very good care of our table. He also was super efficient and was very knowledgeable on the menu and was quick to recommend the most popular dishes. Everything from food and drinks arrived perfectly. Phillip got us to try a a cheeky Christmas cocktail which is the best part of the night. Atmosphere was lovely. Super cute little family pub. Will definitely be back again..☺️

An expensive Greene King with very slow service. Our chips and drinks came after we’d eaten our sandwiches

The venue is lovely - comfortable and warm with 4 great log fires. The staff on duty, however, openly ignored us even though the place was almost empty. We asked one waiter for coffees as he was clearing the table next to us and he replied that he would come back to take our order - 2 coffees! We finally had to go to the bar after waiting 35 minutes. If I go there again it will be for the log fires, not the service or food.

Waited far too long ...over an hour for our share starter ! Main meal was VERY SMALL PORTIONS !! could have extra at a cost ! Would not recommend restaurant...Bar area lovely

Very surprised when asking for a small side salad, to be told, we don’t do salads, only a brussel sprout ceaser salad! How odd. No salad in the kitchen at all? My flat iron chicken was okay but covered in greasy skin . The garlic butter was frozen solid and made the chicken cool down very quickly! Expensive for the standard of food

When we arrived at this pub restaurant, it looks amazing and has a lovely atmosphere. The service was pretty good, some staff were better than others. The food however whilst good, wasn’t good enough for the prices being charged. There are better places locally, so I won’t be going back and unfortunately find myself not wanting to recommend.

Like most people I've driven past this pub on the way to Garsons and thought "I should go here sometime". My only regret is not doing it sooner. Pub looks great inside and out after the renovations a while back. The food was superb, highlight being the baked camembert and the bone marrow beef pie which was so so delicious! Can't wait to come back.

This was our 2nd visit to the newly refurnish Prince of Wales . We both ordered the Chicken & smoked ham hock terrine for starters (very nice), followed with the aged rib & shin beef burger (delicious) and finished with the Pistachio affogato, which we always like . Overall we enjoyed our evening out at the Prince of Wales.

What a transformation. Came in for coffee and a snack with a local friend. It's buzzy, bright and the coffee was good. Sausage roll with piccalilli and a pot of rosemary chips the perfect lunchtime snack. Nothing like the drab, dark uninspiring pub it used to be.

Lovely refurbishment however food overpriced and very average. Service was good but we didn't expect a 12.5 % service charge. When we initially arrived the barman spoke to us via the bar mirror instead of turning round which was rude and very odd. Hot drinks not very warm and mini deserts were very small. Won't be returning.

Had a really lovely meal here on Thursday with friends. It's so cosy and the food was lovely. Our waitress Georgia was so attentive and kind. Will definitely be back soon!

Great lunch time fish and chips in the new conservatory. Very cold outside but sunny so felt warm inside and nice view overlooking the green. Food was excellent - olives, ‘Nduja scotch egg starters and 3 x fish and chips for mains, with wine and coffee. The place looks fantastic after the refurb a few years ago, and the food and service match it. Special shout out to Georgia who served us, really smiley, polite and attentive all through our 2 hours there.

Lovely casual dinner on a Thursday night in the pub area. Not particularly busy but it is a large pub. The atmosphere was warm and didn't feel quiet. Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, menu varied and a level above your normal gastro pub. Yes it's not cheap but in my opinion it's good value for money.

We had such a great time here! The roast beef was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to relax after a hectic weekend. Shoutout to Dale, who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.

The staff here were wonderful and so helpful, even sang a little happy birthday for our friend. A perfect way to end a busy weekend with a scrumptious roast! Will definitely be returning!

The game pies are major bonus. Lovely dining friendly and thoughtful service. With a good verity of beers.

Disappointed. We were served by two very attentive excellent waitresses. However the fish pie was almost inedible. Watery thin cream sauce with undercooked fish and crumb topping with hardly any potato. Accompanying kale was lukewarm. Second time eaten here and food not the best. Will not go a third time.

We booked a Saturday lunch for a group of seven. Unfortunately, the food arrived very late. We only ordered two shared meals and three kids’ menu items, so it wasn’t a complex order, but the food was disappointing. The salad had far too much sauce, and overall, it didn’t feel worth the £27. As locals, we were hoping for a better experience, so it’s a shame to say I don’t think we’ll be returning for the food.

Arrived and ordered drinks, decided we wanted to order some fries and were told “ we are not expecting walk in food orders” FRIES !!! Joke! Imagine that happening in America 🙄 Terrible service!

Twice I have been here for a weekday lunch in the last month and both times its been over an hour for food to arrive. The second time they delivered one dish and my partners didnt arrive for another 20 minutes. It took 15 minutes just to get a drink whilst waiting at the bar. Atrocious service - nice food.

This is the best place for atmosphere , food and lots of choice . New menu now so lots more seafood then I thought. Food was as it should be . AWESOME..the service was fast courteous and great with kids. Definitely recommend.

My first visit since the refurbishment and incredibly disappointing. The space looks amazing but is so let down by awful service. The pub wasn't busy on a Thursday lunchtime but everythign took forever; 5 minutes to place drinks order, 15 minutes for small drinks order to arrive, another 5 minutes waiting to order food at the bar, then 40-60 minutes for two dishes to arrive, the first 20 minutes before the second! The food was ok quality but a little cold and certainly lacking given the wait. I'd heard similar reviews prior to visiting but it played out worse than the reviews! So much potential given the refurb as it looks fab but lots to sort out and wouldn't rush to return or recommend. Sorry!

Probably the best pub lunch I’ve had in a while! The pie was spectacular as was the special alongside good veggie options - very good menu. Really beaut Malbec as well and great staff - thank you 😁

We had roast beef, roast pork belly and a burger...absolutley perfect! Beef cooked to perfection and fabulous portions. Service was faultless...would highly recommend.

I visited with a friend and it was completely unplanned so we didn't have a reservation. That wasn't a problem though. We were seated fast and the service was great. The highlight for me though was the baked camembert. I love camembert and I order it quite often if I find it in the menu of a place I am visiting. This one was divine and probably one of the best I've had. Definitely a must try

Only popped in for a couple of beers. Very nicely decorated etc but it felt a bit lacking atmosphere. Very restaurant orientated.

This pub is fabulous! We celebrated our wedding here. We enjoyed a wonderful meal with close friends and family. Ellie was brilliant at helping me organise it and the staff on the day were so friendly and helpful. The food at this pub is incredible. We’ve also been for breakfast a few times and it is amazing! Perfect location for the summer and winter seasons. Love the decor at this pub. Lots of parking. Highly recommend! Thank you to the team here for your great service! See you soon!

This is a beautifully refurbished restaurant with a lovely, cosy atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful (thank you Georgia). The food took quite a while to arrive and truthfully needed more seasoning in some cases.

Went to Prince of Wales for a roast recently. We had a really lovely afternoon and were really impressed with everything. Service was great, special thanks to Sophie who was brilliant. Thank you!

Last Sunday had lunch at the prince of wales. The food and service were both incredible and a special shout out to Abbie who was super helpful.

Food is fine balanced for taste. We had fish in Both visits . Portions are reasonable, staff friendly and helpful. Large enough to find a table of yr choice. Well frequented. But not crowded. Enjoy your visit

The service was horrendous was sat waiting 45min for a menu, then another 20 for drinks had to keep asking. Same woth the gravy what you give doesn't even wet a carrot between 2, I kept asking the young blonde lady 4 times and she never did anything but check her phone and watch. How ever Abdul was great he couldn't do enough and the only saving grace today. We will never be back. gosh has it gone downhill

Super new look. Super new food. Super friendly staff. Great for a leisurely lunch. No sandwiches, paninis or baguettes served here, only interesting small plates, shares or full on piggy meals! Yummy. Will definitely be back!! Thank you Suki!

The slowest service I've ever experienced!

Now I know what your thinking it's the prices however I love the peroni here and the fact you won't get certain people turn up here that can't afford it lol.

5* lunch out served by Dale. Me and my daughter shared the small mussels which were so fresh and full of flavour. We both had sirloin steaks which were cooked to perfection and massive! All accompanied by a couple of glasses of rose Prosecco. We sat in the conservatory but on days like this, sitting in the dining room with the open fires on would be lovely. We will be returning soon.

Great fun, great staff, good vibe on a Friday and Saturday night and brilliant food to top it off. Greg was the nicest member of staff, can pour a great pint!!
