I am deeply dissatisfied. I ordered the avocado poached eggs and my mum ordered the haddock sandwich, which both arrived cold. Although we noticed the temperature, after waiting for the food, we were too hungry to complain and assumed it would still be safe to eat and trusted that the staff would not serve something that was not fit for consumption! Regrettably, after eating the sandwich, my mother experienced food poisoning symptoms, which I am confident were a direct result of the cold, possibly unsafe haddock. This experience has left us deeply upset with both the quality of food and the service at The Foley Pub. It is particularly frustrating, given that I have had a prior unpleasant experience with the food here. After this most recent incident, I am left questioning the standards of food safety and hygiene being maintained in the kitchen! This level of service is completely unacceptable, and I feel that as paying customers, our health and satisfaction should have been prioritised. Not impressed.

We had a fabulous time. The staff are lovely, very helpful and accommodating. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere is very friendly. It's very dog friendly and understanding throughout, even with our three dogs, one of which was very excited to see the other two and at times a little noisy, despite our best efforts to keep him calm. It was a perfect family meet up,as we all travelled from different areas for long overdue get together. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Food was beautifully cooked and our waiters were friendly and helpful. Service was a bit on the slow side considering the restaurant was only half full. The temperature in the dining room could have been warmer but a very pleasant ambience. It was Burns Night and we were given a shot of malt whiskey which was a lovely gesture.

Went for a Sunday roast, and food was good and generous. It could have been better if gravy was on the side as too much on the plate, where food was swimming a bit, but maybe that's the pub signature? Cauliflower cheese was al dente; personally, I'd have preferred it a bit steamed/softer. Good taste and quality overall. Pleasant atmosphere and great staff though. 7.5/10 for me.

For me, very easily the best Young’s Pub in the immediate vicinity, when compared to x2 in Esher, x1 in Oxshott, x1 in Cobham (albeit that’s decent), and also the Weyside in Guildford and even the Grantley Arms in Wonersh (incidentally excellent - really close second, plus an amazing building). Staff and service - always both excellent. Comfortable seating with a really decent outdoor area. Very decent array of drinks, and is the perfect mix of pub and restaurant, in my humble opinion (which is very rarely humble),

Had both breakfast and dinner during our stay and both were fabulous! Nicholas served us during all of our breakfasts and he was so lovely and accommodating. The kitchen team were so kind to not only provide gluten free alternatives, but also to go a step further and accommodate my personal preferences too. As a Coeliac you’re used to just having to get whatever’s gluten free on the menu, regardless of whether you like it, so it was so lovely to have them accommodate a breakfast I could both eat and enjoy, thank you so much! The restaurant area is lovely too. Our dinner in the pub was also amazing. Such high quality food, made so well. No complaints at all. Lovely bar staff, lovely food, lovely decor, and a lovely beer garden! No complaints at all, would recommend!

Seems quite disorganised for a restaurant where it looked like they had lost out reservation, but seated us anyway. The food portions were tiny. The flavours were great, but £5 for a side of kale and I got one tiny piece of a leaf on a plate. Chocolate mousse was similar with around 1cm worth of mousse in a glass. I really wouldnt recommend as the experience was poor. Had to ask for cutlery for each course, dessert menus (as all still so hungry after mains) as well as the bill as no one came to clear the table. All a little lax for the prices charged.

Returning to The Foley for another stay was a real pleasure. Since my last visit, the pub has been beautifully refurbished and now has a warm, stylish, and inviting atmosphere that makes it a great place to unwind. Richard provided a warm, friendly, and professional welcome at check-in. My room was spotless, spacious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable—great for a good night’s sleep. There were lots of breakfast options. I had a full English breakfast, and it was delicious. The staff provided excellent service, going out of their way to ensure you felt well looked after. I highly recommend The Foley to anyone visiting Claygate and look forward to returning soon!

Visited The Foley a few times in December. Food is good. Service is lacking but not dismal. Atmosphere great. Bathrooms were an awful mess on Christmas Eve. So awful that we opted to wait until we got home. Thankfully down the road. However I had an 82 year old with me and she was desperate so she used the toilet for disabled. Went for a Sunday roast. I ordered half a chicken and was given a chicken breast and a piece of pork belly with no explanation. When queried I was told it was a chicken thigh stuffed! It was a piece of pork. My other guest ordered trout with new potatoes. The fish was raw in the middle. It had to be sent back twice as it came back again raw. The potatoes were hard and black inside. The meal was inedible. My other guest ordered beef and it came “slimey and chewy”. All in all a very disappointing meal. Would not recommend.

This was huge disappointment for us, we were so looking forward to our Xmas dinner, but it turned out to be a huge let down. Our starter of scallops were pretty poor my wife had one that was raw. Our mains were not good my turkey & gammon were ok but all of our vegetables were under cooked plus their was no bread sauce, as for the the lemon posset pudding which should of been a set pudding, like a panna cotta, it was runny I could pour it out. Not very happy!!

Having had a drink in the refurbed pub- restaurant a few weeks before on recommendation we and 3 friends booked a late Sunday lunch on 8th December. First we were shown to a high seated diner type table right by the till entrance which was probably the worst table and unecessary as plenty of other tables were free. Luckily when we asked if there were other tables free another staff member took us through to main part of restaurant. Good we thought, attentive friendly young staff got the drinks and took the order. We ordered 2 starters and 4 beef roasts. The starters were ok but the roast beef was so rare and tough we couldn't cut it. We called the woman over who gave us the impression she was in charge. Her first comment was 'its meat, it's meat". Second comment, 'no one else has complained'. So we invited her to cut a piece of the meat - she tried and couldn't, then tried another piece which she just about hacked through. OK she said what do you want to do? We re-ordered - (not the beef). We then waited about 40 minutes for this - roast chicken x 2, quite nice, plus 2 fish dishes. Fish and chips ok, other fish dish the chalk streamed trout overcooked, swimming in oil and under seasoned. The young staff were obliging and helpful as we ordered more drink while we waited for meal two to arrive. As others have said ambience and decour is great. The woman seemingly in charge did come back later and sort of admit the roast was tough (sort of) and do come again. Whole thing was badly handled. We weren't offered a reduction on the bill. I don't think I have every sent food back before. Accepting that meat can be tough sometimes and perhaps we were just unlucky but the whole thing was handled badly. I don't often complain this was a first.

The new interior is nice and better laid out than previously. Food is ok for pub food. Considering 4 of us (3 were under 18 years old) the price was a bit hefty at £100 in total. Admittedly, my oldest did order the steak so I guess this is a sign of the times that pub meals aren't as affordable as before. It was a dependably meal but certainly didn't blow us away and not one I would definitively want to come back for.

The refurbishment is fabulous and it all looks smart, fresh and very cosy on a freezing cold & wet afternoon. Food was delicious (Sunday roasts all round) however the Yorkshire puddings were a bit doughy and cold so that was a shame. Also we were not given a wine list with our menus and the server seemed rather irritated that we didn’t know what drinks we wanted. Hugely hugely improved!! Last 3 visits have all been fantastic!! As our local pub we’ve eaten here for the last decade and it’s had its ups and downs over that time…. Prior to the recent refurb sadly the quality of the food had really deteriorated and had two or three very poor meals… However the recent refurbishment has not just freshened up the look of the pub (which looks utterly fantastic) that is really freshened up the kitchen too… Visited three times recently and every meal has been delicious. Highly recommend going back to the Foley. And special call out to Nicholas who is always fantastic with the service…

Was disappointed with the service and quality of the roast dinners. We were left with half finished table clearance, hardly anyone comes to see if we needed anything or desserts, we had to go find someone twice. Roast potatoes tasted rubbery as if been cooked hours ago, greens stringy and chewy, Pork dry. We did have a late booking but still expected fresh food and good service. Refurbishment looks really good so a shame restaurant food and service let it down. As it’s our local, we were dissatisfied.

Firstly the positives: The Foley has recently been refurbished to a high standard and very tastefully done. The team is excellent: helpful, knowledgeable and, when we were there for Sunday lunch, working very hard. The disappointment, I'm afraid, was the food. There were five of us and I had the Hake which was excellent. However, two of my friends had the burger and neither of them liked it. They were not fresh and seemed heated up rather than freshly cooked. Another friend had the beef roast and it did not match Sunday roasts at other pubs. Based on this experience, we won't do Sunday lunch there again. However, we will certainly be back for the great surroundings and the excellent team. And I would happily eat at other times during the week but not on a Sunday.

Another amazing waste of time and effort. 1st greeted by a barman who didn't know the difference between a half of lager and lime and the pint which he pulled. Then ordered our meal at the bar so we could pay for it altogether. At no time did anyone asks about allergies. We produced a voucher for a previous bad experience at the pub, which he had no idea how to process. The bill for two roast dinners and apint and half of lager came to £50.35. Overpriced and overrated food and drinks. Food arrived in about 15/20mins warm not hot. Several items as per menu missing. Certain veg not on plate. Bizarre online check in process which meant I ended up with 6 rooms instead of 3 sorted out on arrival. Strangely the restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday, a little expensive for a Pub but quality food. Staff were all very good although I think the first waitress must have been new as didn't know the draft beers available and needed a little help with the menu from the kitchen. ROOMS - amazing, really good value for money and the breakfast was lovely, good coffee and an excellent selection. What was a huge disappointment was the lunch, badly executed food which really wasn't balanced in flavours. FISH GOUJONS - overspiced and soggy. VEGGIE SHARING PLATTER - just depressing tbh. WEDGE SALAD WITH CHICKEN - the chicken looked anemic... skin was white and rubbery, not pleasant to look at (or eat I would guess) so it was removed, flavour overall was too charred so when finished just left a burnt taste in the mouth for the next few hours. Really could do better with this as the hotel/bar/staff are lovely.

Good selection of beers, just a shame the coffee machine is turned off at 10pm just as coffee instead of alcohol preferred for the drive home - instead very expensive sparkling water.

The best steak I have ever had, though rare, medium rare and well done all came out the same. It worked for me though.

Yesterday we invited friends to have dinner in the Foley. What an embarrassing experience it was! We sat down, ordered some wine and read the menu. The waitress came back and said that she wasn't sure the wine was available and went to check. The wine came but without glasses so we had to ask for wine glasses. The menu itself was limited but we were all happy to stay. We ordered the Ploughman's sharing platter to start but the waitress wasn't sure it was available and went to ask the chef. She came back to say they didn't have it but we could have a vegetable platter instead. That didn't sound interesting to any of us so we decided to skip the starters and just have main courses. Two people ordered fish and chips but the waitress again wasn't sure if they had it so off she went to check with the chef. She came back to say they didn't have fish and chips. Our guests looked at us confused. We were embarrassed having told them that the Foley was a nice pub. There was no real apology, no manager to deal with the situation etc. At no stage were we told which items were unavailable on the menu - the waiting staff didn't know, and needed to check with the chef for each individual dish. Needless to say, we got up and left. We went to the Hare and Hounds and had a nice meal. We live locally but we will not return to the Foley. With two other nice pubs in Claygate, the Foley cannot compete. What a shame.

The Foley has always been one of our go to lunch haunts in Claygate.... they do a great burger although I swap the fries for the triple cooked chips. Hoping they bring back the Eton Mess for summer its very sweet but one of the best!! Edited in 12/04/24 To say we were disappointed is putting it mildly. My friend and I had been talking about gammon steaks recently as my last visit to another pub that had gammon on the menu was a disaster, it was gammon ham not gammon. My friend sent me a photo of The Foley's new menu and on it was gammon steak. We rocked up today and both had the gammon. We both left most of it, my friend gave it a better go than I did. I honestly don't think I've had gammon that tough before, I'm still picking bits out of my teeth. The only reason we gave it the bashing we did was the salsa that came with it, that was delicious and the chips were good too... dipped in salsa were excellent. After giving up on the gammon, we attacked the dessert menu and settled on the creme brulee. This was beautiful, be careful with the little ginger biscuits because even saying I can hold my ginger, it's never too strong, lord they packed a punch ... wow, did they! The creme brulee was beautifully thick and creamy ... maybe a little more brulee with a better snap but that's a personal preference. The rhubarb and custard and the side was delicious, the rhubarb being bothy punchy and sweet. Yes the dessert was definitely the crown on today's lunch 😋

Very poor pub dinner on a Wednesday evening with my wife and daughter. Overcooked, overpriced, no one asks us about our experience, no one cares when I complain. Being told that “no one else complains” simply adds insult, like it’s just me being fussy. I’ve tried contacting Youngs head office in the past, but never got a reply, despite acknowledging receipt of my communication. Having been a local for 27 years I really wonder why I bother!

OK other than one dish ... Lamb belly small dish - if anyone working in the kitchen tasted this, presumably bought in, product it would be off the menu immediately!

Have not been here for 20 odd years. Popped in for a beer and some food with a friend whom lives local. Food was brilliant! I had chicken, leak pie with green veg, chips and gravy. That pie was loaded without room for breath with shredded chicken. Honestly it’s just how a pie should be. Absolute hi five the chef. Can’t forget the bar staff who was awesome and helped me navigate changes to my plate. Cheers ladies and gents

This is genuinely one of the nicest pubs in Surrey, beautiful refurb, lovely beer garden, nice food. Unfortunately it's sometimes let down by staff. On some occasions they're slow to serve, other times they're not clued in to menu options or seating plans. We had one instance where we had questions about the Mothers Day menu and the server clearly had to guess (and admitted it was a guess) until I asked if he could check with the manager/supervisor, who was clued in and very nice. If the staff could just be a little bit more on the ball this would be a 10/10 pub.

Rubbish food, pork ribeye steak was a slice off a rolled piece of gammon. Hispi cabbage watery, dauphinoise potatoes tasteless. Plate looked very bland. No service whatsoever. We had to go to the bar for drinks, order our food and to get a jug of water. Wont be going again.

just another Guinness bloke here... reviewing the black stuff. For my birthday this time actually. Good creamy texture, mushroom shape top...very good pint...right temperature, not too cold, very clean and clear glass. Gentleman behind the bar was very polite, took his time pouring, bit of a chat to entertain me while the brew set. Lovely clean pub, makes me whish I lived nearby.
