The Foley has had a makeover and the interior is beautiful and cosy (we haven't sat outside yet because of the weather). Great atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon, esp with the fires on. We had a roast and couldn't fault it. Lovely portions, hot food and attentive service. The manager (a French lady I think) is always super accommodating and friendly. Thanks!

Was disappointed with the service and quality of the roast dinners. We were left with half finished table clearance, hardly anyone comes to see if we needed anything or desserts, we had to go find someone twice. Roast potatoes tasted rubbery as if been cooked hours ago, greens stringy and chewy, Pork dry. We did have a late booking but still expected fresh food and good service. Refurbishment looks really good so a shame restaurant food and service let it down. As it’s our local, we were dissatisfied.

Our first time to The Foley(Claygate) and I must say it was fantastic. I've read mixed reviews, so wasn't sure what to expect, but thought worth giving it a try. Nicholas our waiter was so friendly, helpful with suggestions and so attentive. Our party of 3 had the Risotto, Chicken supreme with a side of veg (carrots, parsnips and beets) and the cottage pie. All of the food was delicious! I'm so pleased we gave The Foley a try as it will now be one of our favourites. Thanks again to Nicholas!!

Firstly the positives: The Foley has recently been refurbished to a high standard and very tastefully done. The team is excellent: helpful, knowledgeable and, when we were there for Sunday lunch, working very hard. The disappointment, I'm afraid, was the food. There were five of us and I had the Hake which was excellent. However, two of my friends had the burger and neither of them liked it. They were not fresh and seemed heated up rather than freshly cooked. Another friend had the beef roast and it did not match Sunday roasts at other pubs. Based on this experience, we won't do Sunday lunch there again. However, we will certainly be back for the great surroundings and the excellent team. And I would happily eat at other times during the week but not on a Sunday.

Food was cold. Ordered a steak; its was freezing cold. The peas for one of dishes we ordered were also ice cold. The mussels tasted sandy. Was very disappointed as I had a Sunday Roast dinner last year at The Foley and it was excellent but dinner on Friday night was not good at all. Not sure if they have changed chefs or what the story is but the food wasn't a good experience. Wont be going to back there for food unfortunately.

What a brilliant experience at the Foley for our first roast meal . The service was faultless. The only slight downside was that the food wasn’t as hot as we would’ve liked. I should’ve sent it back to be reheated. Also it would be a good idea to supply stuffing with your chicken /pork roasts. We will definitely be back!

Was good, but we were hoping that the new refurb might add a bit more pizazz to the food offering, veggie burger was a bit dry, Prawn Cocktail could have been a bit more modern, exciting. Overall ok, but there is stiff competition locally, so was hoping for something more gastro.

Another amazing waste of time and effort. 1st greeted by a barman who didn't know the difference between a half of lager and lime and the pint which he pulled. Then ordered our meal at the bar so we could pay for it altogether. At no time did anyone asks about allergies. We produced a voucher for a previous bad experience at the pub, which he had no idea how to process. The bill for two roast dinners and apint and half of lager came to £50.35. Overpriced and overrated food and drinks. Food arrived in about 15/20mins warm not hot. Several items as per menu missing. Certain veg not on plate. If I had paid cash for this dining experience, I would have been seriously complaining and asking for a refund. Will not be returning to the Foley Arms ever again.

The Foley is transformed. Much more interesting food; a classy, smarter, more formal feel that distinguishes it from the other pubs in the village; excellent and experienced staff; and - very importantly - an improvement in the acoustics. I want to give a really big shout out to Nicholas. I’m over from the US visiting my mum who lives across the road and the Foley is my escape!! After going in for a drink and not really knowing what to order, Nicholas suggested a drink and promised that I would love it. He made me the most delicious drink that I’ve ever had from the Foley, so much so that over the next couple of days I probably had six or seven of them!!! People rave about customer service in America, but I can say Nicolas was up there with the best service I’ve ever received either in the UK or US What a great asset he is to the pub and he knows how to make a killer drink as well. If you’re ever at the Foley and don’t know what to have to drink, ask Nicholas, he won’t disappoint, I promise 🍸🍹

Had dinner and stayed the night. Huge positives on the rooms, they were excellent, comfortable, quiet and great value. Bizarre online check in process which meant I ended up with 6 rooms instead of 3 sorted out on arrival. Strangely the restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday, a little expensive for a Pub but quality food. Staff were all very good although I think the first waitress must have been new as didn't know the draft beers available and needed a little help with the menu from the kitchen. ROOMS - amazing, really good value for money and the breakfast was lovely, good coffee and an excellent selection. What was a huge disappointment was the lunch, badly executed food which really wasn't balanced in flavours. FISH GOUJONS - overspiced and soggy. VEGGIE SHARING PLATTER - just depressing tbh. WEDGE SALAD WITH CHICKEN - the chicken looked anemic... skin was white and rubbery, not pleasant to look at (or eat I would guess) so it was removed, flavour overall was too charred so when finished just left a burnt taste in the mouth for the next few hours. Really could do better with this as the hotel/bar/staff are lovely.

Yesterday we invited friends to have dinner in the Foley. What an embarrassing experience it was! We sat down, ordered some wine and read the menu. The waitress came back and said that she wasn't sure the wine was available and went to check. The wine came but without glasses so we had to ask for wine glasses. The menu itself was limited but we were all happy to stay. We ordered the Ploughman's sharing platter to start but the waitress wasn't sure it was available and went to ask the chef. She came back to say they didn't have it but we could have a vegetable platter instead. That didn't sound interesting to any of us so we decided to skip the starters and just have main courses. Two people ordered fish and chips but the waitress again wasn't sure if they had it so off she went to check with the chef. She came back to say they didn't have fish and chips. Our guests looked at us confused. We were embarrassed having told them that the Foley was a nice pub. There was no real apology, no manager to deal with the situation etc. At no stage were we told which items were unavailable on the menu - the waiting staff didn't know, and needed to check with the chef for each individual dish. Needless to say, we got up and left. We went to the Hare and Hounds and had a nice meal. We live locally but we will not return to the Foley.  With two other nice pubs in Claygate, the Foley cannot compete. What a shame.

The Foley has always been one of our go to lunch haunts in Claygate.... they do a great burger although I swap the fries for the triple cooked chips. Hoping they bring back the Eton Mess for summer its very sweet but one of the best!! Edited in 12/04/24 To say we were disappointed is putting it mildly. My friend and I had been talking about gammon steaks recently as my last visit to another pub that had gammon on the menu was a disaster, it was gammon ham not gammon. My friend sent me a photo of The Foley's new menu and on it was gammon steak. We rocked up today and both had the gammon. We both left most of it, my friend gave it a better go than I did. I honestly don't think I've had gammon that tough before, I'm still picking bits out of my teeth. The only reason we gave it the bashing we did was the salsa that came with it, that was delicious and the chips were good too... dipped in salsa were excellent. After giving up on the gammon, we attacked the dessert menu and settled on the creme brulee. This was beautiful, be careful with the little ginger biscuits because even saying I can hold my ginger, it's never too strong, lord they packed a punch ... wow, did they! The creme brulee was beautifully thick and creamy ... maybe a little more brulee with a better snap but that's a personal preference. The rhubarb and custard and the side was delicious, the rhubarb being bothy punchy and sweet. Yes the dessert was definitely the crown on today's lunch 😋

Very poor pub dinner on a Wednesday evening with my wife and daughter. Overcooked, overpriced, no one asks us about our experience, no one cares when I complain. Being told that “no one else complains” simply adds insult, like it’s just me being fussy. We love the Foley. We’ve been coming for many years. The atmosphere in the pub and restaurant is great and the rooms are beautiful. But this time we noticed a few niggly things (nothing major) which could be improved. At dinner, the waiter asked us if we’d like a quiet table, which was impressive as one of us has hearing issues. But we then struggled to get noticed at one end of the room. At breakfast, we had to ask for plates. We had to ask for milk for tea. The toaster hadn’t been plugged in. There was just one croissant available. This wasn’t at a busy time; we were the only guests eating at that point. We appreciate what a tough time it is in hospitality, and I don’t want to be negative about a lovely hotel, but none of these things cost money to fix; staff could just be a little more attentive. Nevertheless, we’ll be back; these small things are far outweighed by all the great things.

We visit Claygate regularly, as our daughter and her family live in Claygate, we visited The Foley last summer on a couple of occasions and found the service slow but just about acceptable, and we put the slow service down to the busy time of day. But to our disappointment the food service at The Foley has gone from bad to worse, on New Year's Day (1st January 2024) we booked a table for six, four adults and two children for 13.00. The meet and greet staff were very accommodating, the pub wasn’t busy, and our order was taken promptly, however, one hour fifteen minutes after our arrival we had not seen any food, nor had the waitress come to the table and apologised for the slow food service. Having become quite agitated by the lack of service I spoke to a French lady I believe her name was Elene, but my apologies I may have her name slightly wrong, the lady confirmed that we had been waiting for over an hour for our food, and apologised, the food did finally arrive ten minutes later, and I have to say the food was very good, but the overall experience left us very disappointed.

The service is very slow, the food comes out at different times and therefore sits under the heating lamps until all dishes are ready. This was 20 minutes in our case and the food was overcooked. The staff are nice but the whole service just doesn’t work. It’s a shame because it has the potential to be a good local family restaurant.

My nephew booked us for lunch at 2pm on 29th Dec, atleast 2 weeks earlier. We were sat in the back with one other family. One of our party was a vegetarian and the first waitress informed us that there was no Cauliflower soup. We ordered drinks but only 1 of the 3 drinks arrived. We had to ask the waitress to bring the other 2. We then ordered food after flagging someone down to take our order. Then we were informed that the vegetable cassoulet and the steak pie was also off the menu- leaving the plant based burger which my daughter had to choose. It transpired the pie was available after all! The food was good but the service left a lot to be desired: No one asked us if our meals were ok? Now, when it came to ordering the bill I got up and had to go around to the young girl at the bar to ask for it, as there was just no one in sight, at the food hatch, in the restaurant or nearby. It was promptly bought and when I looked up to ask for the card machine a different waitress came over with another bill!?! Our 1st bill was without gratuity added and we divided it 3 ways. As she was taking our 3 transactions, on the 3rd one the waitress had added the gratuity and asked for more money than our calculations. I explained that we were going to leave a tip separately but she insisted on getting her calculator and dividing the figure herself! We did not leave a tip after all. No friendly smile, or thank you or see you again was forthcoming. Having worked in the hospitality sector myself I know how important the little smiles & a pleasant nature to the customer is. Perhaps a chat to all staff about customer service is needed!?

Christmas Day dinner, booked and ordered in advance. Booking for 1400, got there at 1350 and had a complimentary glass of bubbly, excellent!! But then had to wait until 1500 before we got our starters!!! that's despite pre-booking. Then another 35 minutes for our Turkey dinner which was cold. Food and actual service by Tom was great and he did keep apologizing but that length of time was really unacceptable and all for £95 per person. We've eaten there before on Christmas day and it's been excellent so hopefully it was just a one off but all tables suffered in the same why. Why ask for pre-booking if it doesn't help run the service better. To top it off none of the salt mills had rock salt in and we had to pass a dispenser of table salt around the dining room

Starting to really enjoy this pub on random weekday evenings….. Third time I’d been here recently - this time, with an elderly neighbour from the Hinchley Wood area. Incredibly pleasant, lively and festive atmosphere in the larger bar area. Great amount of people dining and drinking. Service was very pleasant. What they’ve done with the outside, over the year, is also fantastic.

OK. Tepid mash potatoes. Mushy peas were not mushy peas- just mashed normal peas. Room was a bit chilly- especially next to the French doors but it did warm up when we asked about it.

I’ve been to the Foley on many occasions and have enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. I visited a few days ago and our table was booked for 19:45. We were asked if we wanted our starters to come with the main course, which sounded odd as the main would be cold by the time we got to it. Just before 21:00 we were given the desert menu. We ordered about 21:20, but was informed that the kitchen closes at nine, so no dessert and financial loss to yourselves. If that is procedure, why were we not told about this?

This was the second Sunday in quick succession that we visited for lunch with friends. The food is good, but I must say the service on both occasions was slow and poor. I can say for sure we would have spent more money on drinks if the service was more attentive. It’s a shame because the pub is lovely and as I say, food is decent.

Really quite poor for the price - shame it was for a birthday too. Friday night - no steak (only mentioned after we ordered), no salad as a side (mentioned after we re-ordered), overcooked scampi, cold pickled onions thrown into the beef bourguignon which was unexpected. Probably should have said something at the time but we had small kids and waiting staff were busy. Was definitely better in the summer.

Two consecutive visits, having not been to this venue in 2023…. ….the first, on a Tuesday night with a mate from Hinchley Wood. Venue was pleasantly busy, due to there being a Weekly Quiz in the main part of the pub. Didn’t participate, but there was a decent atmosphere. Second visit, was the following evening, with a Claygate couple who are mates of mine. They both dined there and enjoyed their meals. Service was very attentive and fastidious, and it was a highly enjoyable evening.

Unfortunately an issue in the kitchen meant it temporarily shut down resulting in one main course (out of five) being delayed and another having to be substituted however, more importantly, everything was dealt with extremely well by the staff - sorry I didn’t note our server’s name but he did an amazing job in difficult circumstances so, well done that young man! We had a really fun night despite this and a few other minor issues throughout the evening. One thing which could be improved on was the Bread & Butter (as a pre-starter), we were expecting a lovely selection of artisan breads but instead, got rather ordinary white bread so a bit disappointing. Other than that, we all enjoyed our food which was tasty and very well cooked - the risotto was particularly delicious!

We were a party of 12 on October the 12th , a mix of English and American family. We’ve eaten here before, when a very efficient French lady was the manager of the restaurant, and had a great meal. Not this time. The problem stemmed from the kitchen, because the of the open plan, you can see the (2) chefs struggling to serve 12 meals, there. There was no one else in the place until a bit later in the evening! We were told the chef was new, and watched as he worked at a ridiculously slow rate, it was as if he was in slow motion. And hour in and no food and we spoke to the waiters, whose response was ‘ it coming it’s coming’. We eventually got the starters, some of which were wrong! Meantime we could see 4 steaks sitting on the runway, and which obviously arrived cold. The actual quality of the ingredients is good, however, neither the cook/s nor the waiting staff were up to it and it is not cheap. You can’t have a new chef on without support and useless waiting staff. We were eventually offer a discount, but the meal/evening was ruined. I hope the management read this and act on it because the restaurant and pub are lovely, but the staff let it down very very badly on this night.

What a horrid meal. It’s no use someone telling you they have staff problems. How does that affect the customer. The dinner served was appalling. I ordered prawn cocktail. I have never ever see such time prawns.mi even looked in Marks and Spencer frozen prawns today, and they don’t sell minuscule prawns. The cocktail was watery. The chef and defrosted the prawns and so water was left in bowl. No lemon no cucumber just horrid watery bottled sauce. Then Monkfish with dip. Burnt and ruined. My granddaughters burger was burnt too. We complained only to be informed there were chef problems. Too right they were. Yes they took the burger off the bill, but not the prawn cocktail or Monkfish. I came home and had something decent to eat.. £90 for five people even with the burger taken off. No drinks. Dreadful place, never would eat again. We should really have full refund. When management don’t look after customers, then Trip Advisor does the job of letting people know how awful it is. Horrid horrid place.

Disappointing having dined there several times previously and had great meals and service. Not sure why but definitely not good; scampi was overcooked and dry and presented with the smallest amount of overly thick tatare sauce. Friend had the fish and chips which she said was just ok. Service wasn't great either after food took ages to come we then had to go back for condiments and we sat in front of uncleared plates for ages leaving before anyone came back. Don't think we'd have been asked if all was ok anyway from the vibe we got It was only 5pm and not busy. Shame

Super helpful re organising a group on a Friday night. Julie, Aileen were fabulous, sorted the Saloon for us, we ate, drank and made merry. We shall be back. All bar staff were equally courteous, even down to taking happy snaps for us. Thanks to all concerned, exactly what we were hoping for. Karin and CHSB group. X

Where else can I start besides, PERFECT! Rooms were immaculate, had all the amenities needed and more. Including a fridge and mini bar 🥂 Had accessible windows so had some lovely morning air, and a coffee machine ☕️ Not to mention the bed that was the best thing I ever slept on!! Such high quality bedding and cushions, and the pillows were perfect. Wish I could sleep here all day!! 😅 Dinner was fabulous! Beautifully presented and was absolutely mouth watering, as-well as the selection of wines and drinks. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, and we felt right at home for the whole trip. Never wanted to leave, so will definitely be back! 🥰💯

Frankly appalling. Staff were indifferent and poorly trained. Previous customers' cups and plates were left on table and only cleared away when requested by me. The floor was being vacuumed with a trailing cable across cusomer areas. And to top it all, I was charged £9 for a coffee (no saucer) and a cake which lacked any significant flavour. I will definately not be going there again. - Be warned!

Disappointed. We were served by two very attentive excellent waitresses. However the fish pie was almost inedible. Watery thin cream sauce with undercooked fish and crumb topping with hardly any potato. Accompanying kale was lukewarm. Second time eaten here and food not the best. Will not go a third time.

Went here based on a recommendation in a paper. Sadly it did not live up to expectations. Welcome was functional not especially friendly. Where we were sat was crafty and I kept my jacket on for most of the meal. Sunday roast was average. Slightly dry and lacking seasoning chicken and soggy roast potatoes. The Yorkshire puddings however were excellent.
