A lovely meal, great waitress, Lauren, and a special birthday treat for Grandad as well as all of us this evening. An added bonus was the wonderful balloon creations made by the magician and balloon sculptor. What a skillful chap!!

Great efficiency and fantastic food! The carvery lads - Johnny and his mate were on point! However, we got told 2 different things about our booking. They will cancel your booking after 10 minutes. We got told 15 however they did accommodate and booked us in.

Our server Lana was wonderful. Great food as always. Fresh vegetables and meat well cooked. Lovely Sunday roast on a grey day!

Popped in for some food. Super service by Laura and the team. Really friendly and always willing to help. Good quality food as well with generous portions. We haven’t been to a Toby carvery for ages and will definitely be coming back!

Absolutely appalling booked for an afternoon lunch no carrots no lamb so how about the other bits omg they had left over beans , mushrooms from there breakfast that day peas as over cooked as possible,I was asked if everything was ok I said , actually no the waitress said ok then left goes without saying never again

This place has really gone down hill after visiting a couple of times recently, We went for a carvery and sat in the restaurant, the food was awful, the meat was cold, the vegetables/pasta were very dry and the stuffing was just a big block in the serving pan and the gravy was stodge. Looks like there was no time, consideration or effort put in to anything at all, apparently the carvery/pub is to be refurbished this month, let's hope there's a huge improvement in the food they serve.

Lovely food, we all had the carvery as usual! The service was amazing! Well done Lana and Luke for great service! One child and 2 adults.

Had a lovely trip to our local Toby Carvery, looking forward to seeing it after the refurb! Laura our server was very quick to get us any drinks/condiments we needed. Despite it being a busy Sunday she was always around when needed and served several tables effectively and happily. Food was fresh and good value for money.

Sue our server was really lovely and helpful. Our table was clean, our food was delicious and overall a nice atmosphere for our year anniversary. Thank you!!

As soon as I arrived I was given a warm welcome as always. All the staff are fantastic and always make me feel at home. Was shown to a table quickly and was soon collecting my food. As ever the food was well presented and warm, and received a warm welcome from the Chef. As always a pleasure to eat here with great staff and food. Suspect I will be back soon, perhaps next week, and why not with all it has to offer. Big thanks to all the staff who always make we welcome.

As always the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food is great with good portions of meat. The food is always good and well cooked. The decoration and seating is in need of updating. Some of the furniture is very poor condition. The toilets are in extreme need of revamp, one of the taps wobbles in gents

The carvery was good. There was ham, turkey, beef and pork and lots of veg. The Yorkshire pudding was huge. What a shame that the current serving chefs are so miserable. No smile, a muttered "what do you want?" Not even any eye contact. The meat was scraped up from scraps around the joint and the Yorkshire pudding (which had to be asked for) was literally thrown begrudgingly on the plate. Not just us, everyone got the same bad/reluctant service . Definitely in need of some staff training in good manners

Very disappointed. Most of the seating was torn/frayed. Asked for jug of water, provided with two small glasses. Queue for carvery ridiculously long 25 people. Food all over walkway which was in places 12 inches wide! Meat ok but carrots like rubber. Roast potatoes mushy. Standing in queue which one could not exit it was difficult to breathe.

I took my mum for a Sunday dinner treat and booked a table in advance. When we arrived the staff were courteous and polite. Was given our table and told Trey would let us know when we could go to the Carvery. 5 minutes later we’re we’re in the queue to get our meal. I had lamb and was given a huge portion of meat which tasted great. It melted in the mouth and was really well cooked.All veg were plentiful and hot. They had dumplings which seemed a little odd for a roast dinner!Service was impeccable and waiter was very polite, knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Terrible unfriendly service until we left where they expected us to return soon. The waitress was very rude when we asked to change tables as the table was very small for 5 guests.

Went for breakfast. Didn't realise that coffee and fruit drinks weren't included!!Queuing up was nightmare, big tables down the middle. Run of of napkins to hold hot plates. No one around to ask. Also not much to choose from. One one sort of egg (fried). Order vegetarian sausages which were cooked to order. They were over cooked and tough to eat. Couldn't find anyone to reorder. Gone down hill. Know bank holiday and busy but standard should drop!!

Stopped at hotel next door so used this Toby for evening snack and breakfast next morning. Didn't book but no issues and got a table for both meals.Food is as expected and the staff were friendly and nice.Breakfast advertised at 4.99 but remember to factor in drinks, orange juice etc as not included.Would use again

I was no where near 2 meters away from the people next to me on a different table , I could have touched them without even having my arms straight, I had to whisper to my partner we were that close , when I asked if they could amends this in this circumstance they said no and didn’t speak to us again until we had to get up and leave because we was so uncomfortable! Rude stuff and way to crowded, just money grabbers not worried about anyones safety !

Friendly staff but that's where it ended I'm afraid. The food was either burnt or cold. Dessert sent back as it was burnt, replaced with more burnt dessert!

Toby has become simply a factory where there is no enjoyment value where they churn out very poor quality muckThe tables are filthy dirty and smeary guests are crammed in akin to a cattle market there are no dietry choices and the staff do not care ( not that they have any staff).You would be well advised to steer clear of what i can only described extremely poor

Orderd food yesterday bit asked for something not to be on plate due to allergy. Was told not possible.coliflower cheese would of been an addition anyway ,so they could of removed it.called and said my partner is disabled to which the manager started laughing.called again and a girl answerd to put call down on me.i called today and same manager said good luck.told him I'm reporting him,he said he would say I swore at him.pure lies.dirty attitude. Spent 30 elsewhere and glad I did .avoid the carvery if your disabled as the manager don't like people with disabilities...shocking attitude in 2021.

Had a great experience at Hilsea carvery, had to wait a little to select food but was good to see someone sticking to some distances. Food was cooked well, all staff were welcoming and pleasant. Such amazing atmosphere, clean and tidy and well looked after.Couldn't ask for better

Our waitress Karen was so lovely and helpful. Really made the experience nice. Would definitely recommend.

If you want decent food for a decent price stay away from this restaurant! Went it at 2pm which is a quiet time and most tables were free, restaurant staff were the least interested in the service! Ordered a carvery and at beginning of order we specified we wanted separate bills, we were asked to work out our bills as the waiter said he could not work out who had ordered what,really poor service! We did not tip as we were made to feel so uncomfortable lack of customer service. Food was cold, vegetables looked stale, portion of meat really miserly. Place looked unkemp we had to return an item as food looked too dry for consumption. Will not be returning to this restaurant in the near future!!!!

Went, with friends, on the night England were playing. Good choice too as the the restaurant was quiet. No queue at the servery, choice of 4 meats, everything was available and the service couldn't be faulted. Disappointing that there was no draught lager and £4.05 for a 33cl Budweiser, is a little over the top, in my opinion.

Our first waitress didn’t tell us to just go up .We waited for a while.Sue took over then and she was so nice .Such a difference .Really nice and professional.

Just had my 1st beeakie of the year and it did not disappoint!! Everything was cooked to perfection, full deck, beautiful hash, crispy bacon! It really was the best one ive had and i will most certainly be back for another, best price in portmouth for an all you can eat!! Smiling chefs and waitresses, its really nice to feel welcome

Myself and my partner are totally disgusted with the so called chefs attitude, we stood waiting to be served, he looked right at us ignored us, continued to huff and puff, then after he had finished, he mumbled something which we did not understand, and then aggresively shouted “TOAST” !!!! At this point we decided we were not going to be treated like this. So we spoke to the lovely ladies at the desk, who happily gave us a refund... The chef/server needs to think about his attitude, or find a different job!

Excited to finally be able to take my elderly mum out for lunch with 2 of her grandchildren.Turned up about 10 minutes early for 11.30 lunch. The young blonde lady checking us in didn’t smile once but just barked orders about all scanning the Covid bar code which 3 of us did. Unfortunately my mum didn’t have it on her phone so the lady proceeded to ask her name , phone number etc quite huffily as mum didn’t know her own number and I had to look for her. Eventually taken to a table to be told the carvery would be a few minutes. Not an issue.Ordered and given drinks. Place was starting to fill up. Eventually at 11.50 approximately invited up to the carvery which was great as we had drinks and plenty of catching up to do so the added wait didn’t matter. Was little bit annoyed that people who had come in after us were asked up at same time so we had to then queue with my mum who’s 71.Meal was delicious and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the food.Customer service all round could have been better especially on arrival . A smile goes a long way !

I came in today for dinner with my family. I understand without an ID you cannot serve a customer, however the law states that you ARE allowed one drink, whether it be beer, cider etc... on top of this, I did have a copy of my ID in photographic form, but of course this was turned down despite the fact I am 22 year of age and only want one beer with my meal! I think the staff need to check their facts because you have just lost me as a customer! The service was rude and unreasonable. Cheers for the poor service!!!

Stayed for evening meal and two breakfasts while staying in the area. Everything was fine, not outstanding.Coffee at breakfast is NOT nice, very bitter

Followed the signs in and went straight to a table. I haven't been here for a long time, anyway we waited , no one came so got up and wondered about looking for some staff. Asked for a menu which was given to us but still no explanation of what the procedure is. It's pretty simple, pay at the bar get your drinks there and go to the serving counter for food. Just would have been nice to be informed. Breakfast was well cooked and plenty of it. Service a bit lacking.

Slightly different because of Covid procedures although still with friendly staff and the food was good. Went for breakfast really enjoyed it and the Breakfast Yorkshire puddings looked interesting and were really good, they were cooked with bacon and onion, the breakfast gravy added to the good experience. Will defensively go again

Primera comida en mucho tiempo y no he estado aquí en algunos años, el servicio fue excelente, el personal fue amable y servicial, nuestra área estaba limpia y nunca nos sentimos olvidados, Morgan vio todas nuestras necesidades y solicitudes, obtuvimos nuestras bebidas, comida y pudines rápidamente, que tener niños pequeños fue una ventaja, ella interactuó con mis hijos, lo que en un momento en el que la gente se evitaba significaba que a mi pequeño le gustaba su tabardo y ella lo dejó quedárselo, lo que ama y ahora tiene un recuerdo gracias Morgan!

Mi esposa y yo nos detuvimos para tomar una copa tranquilamente, pero nos pidieron que nos sentáramos en una mesa pequeña a no más de 1/3 de metro de la mesa de al lado. Nos quejamos de que las mesas estaban demasiado cerca una de la otra, pero la anfitriona se encogió de hombros y dijo que el gerente estaba contento con la ubicación de la mesa. Salimos porque no nos permitían sentarnos en otro lugar a pesar de que había otras mesas más grandes disponibles. Servicio al cliente terrible.

Fui a este Toby hace una semana y, a pesar de que eran las 8 pm en el momento en que llegamos, la comida todavía se veía y sabía fresca para comer. Buena relación calidad-precio comida sustancial. Había reservado una mesa para mí y mi hijo para la noche del 19 de septiembre. Fue mi primera visita mientras viajaba.Chap detrás del mostrador que sirve la comida muy amable, alegre e incluso en una canción.El lugar en sí estaba muy limpio y se limpió casi instantáneamente tan pronto como alguien se fue.Comida con una buena relación calidad-precio.Personal muy amable.Definitivamente lo usaría de nuevo si volviera a la zona.Considerándolo todo, una experiencia muy agradable.

Reservé previamente una mesa, se sentó rápidamente siguiendo un saludo en la entrada. Servicio de mesa amable de camarera con entrega rápida de bebidas. El servicio de carvery es diferente, pero se ha ajustado de una manera que garantiza la seguridad de Covid y, al mismo tiempo, ofrece la misma comida y servicio de gran calidad. El servicio fue tan bueno como siempre, el procedimiento de comida y servicio fue igual de bueno (el único cambio es que alguien le sirva los artículos en un plato en lugar de servirte tú mismo), la calidad y el precio fueron tan competitivos como siempre . Disfruté de un asador a mitad de semana aquí y siento que otros restaurantes de marcas principales harían bien en aprender del enfoque de Toby Carverys, ¡una pandemia no es una excusa para un servicio deficiente o un mantenimiento deficiente del edificio como se ve en Harvester! ! ! Puede haber una pandemia, puede haber diferentes requisitos establecidos para la seguridad, pero la experiencia en Toby Carvery es infalible. Esto es lo que me hará regresar.

Food crap I have never had food like it roast turkey that was like a newspaper you could see through it my ham was crap and no beef so laud for food I didn't get DO THINK IT RIGHT

The portion was decreased remarkably. Not very nice and friendly staffs who give you meats which make you uncomfortable. The taste also came down to average.

Me & my husband booked to go here eat out to help out & we wasn’t disappointed as always cheap & cheerful. Friendly staff as always.

Fuimos un día festivo el lunes a última hora de la noche, nos llevaron a nuestra mesa y nos dijeron que obtuviéramos carvery, recibimos nuestros refrescos en nuestra mesa y luego hicimos cola para nuestras comidas. Tenía una selección mucho mayor de lo esperado para la hora del día (8:30 pm), lo cual fue una agradable sorpresa. Muchas verduras y acompañamientos.El único inconveniente era la falta de patatas nuevas, la única selección era asada o puré.Todos limpiamos nuestros platos y quedamos perfectamente contentos con la comida, sin embargo, uno de nuestros postres se sirvió en un tazón en lugar de vidrio y probablemente podríamos usar herramientas forenses para identificar al chef debido a la agradable huella dactilar manchada en el costado del tazón.Lo único negativo es que los inodoros para caballeros necesitaban una buena limpieza y el techo necesita un buen polvo, ya que era bastante desagradable cuando se notaba.Generalmente una comida agradable que necesita algunos pequeños toques para hacernos regresar.

Went there today (been many many times before) and...where do I start! They have am entrance and an exit but the entrance is poorly signed and the exit door is wide open. Consequently everyone walks towards the exit door seeing as it's the first door you see.We walked there, the barman looked at us then looked away. He didn't tell us to go to the entrance where you can be booked in. So we walked through the bar to the entrance area. Got booked in and shown a table. Got the carvery from probably their best employee, a cheerful chef. After that it's all downhill I'm afraid.My mother ordered a pot of tea which was only half filled with water. I asked the sullen waitress to fill it up. She said absolutely nothing, took the pot and added a tiny bit more water then put it back on our table. All without saying a word!I was about to complain but couldn't see the manager as she was dealing with a different group of unhappy customers who later walked out having not finished their meal.I told the manager about the poor signage and she said there are enough signs telling you how to get in. Seconds later another family walked in through the exit!I told the sullen waitress that my mother said both ladies' toilets were blocked. Again she said nothing and carried on walking away!I do understand that courtesy and good customer service has all but gone these days and I accept that. But this place today managed to hit a new low in my opinion.We then went to McDonalds in Cosham for some tea and were greeted by the friendliest person you could with to meet. I told her if she has time to go along to the Toby Carvery in Hilsea to train the staff there in the art of good customer service.The manger and most of the staff clearly don't want to be there and have no interest in making a good impression. I suspect things would be different if they had a financial stake in the place though!

Meal with a mate had 2 kings sizes and pigs the meal was nice the carver and veg server was nice and had a laugh with the manager on tonight was a good laugh as was my waitress

Visited yesterday,Tuesday 18th August at 12.45pm with my daughter and granddaughter. Got shown to our booked table by staff with no mask and virtually touching us. Had to get our own menus (not disposable like most others use), then different staff member came to take order, leaning on our table, no face covering or anything, I leaned away from her and asked if any staff wore face coverings etc either on the floor and/or especially in the kitchen when preparing and serving food, was quite bluntly told "No we haven't got time for that as it's heaving normally in here", with that we got up and left. Absolutely disgusted and very disappointed they are putting people's health and safety at such risk in the Covid situation because they're too lazy. Have reported to the Council.

Visited for drinks after lockdown. We were all very shocked and dissapointed at the lack of Covid safety measures. There are no screens at the bar leaving the bar staff vulnerable, just a few tables had been shoved in front of the bar in a lazy attempt at distancing. None of the bar staff had masks on and there is no table service like most other pubs we've visited recently, if you want people to feel safe going up to the bar put a screen up.And the most noticable problem were there was NO attempt at logging peoples details for track and trace?! we had not booked in advance so they had no details and when we arrived no one logged our details either, very slack would definitely not be going there to eat going on the drinks experience!

Visited the Toby for the first time since Lockdown. Was not disappointed. Very well organised to ensure social distancing, tables well apart, and the food served up by the chefs from the usual 'self service' buffet. The Toby roast is as good as every and their pure white ice cream with chocolate sauce caps it all off nicely.

I am not here to criticise as so many have below because quite frankly, Toby is the best carvery in town. However; the lack of screens in front of the food and therefore all the germ ridden public coughing and spluttering all over it surprised me. It’s been a week since I ate here and I’m still alive but I fear there is potential for infection. A simple screen as low as hand/plate height would reassure me.

Been here a few times now. Roasts are ok. Puddings are lovely. Family friendly. Staff nice.No real ales on last visit on Sunday but what is quite upsetting as it's a restaurant is the ladies toilets have been in a disgusting state on the last two visits. I understand this is due to bad behaviour by customers but can't the staff check them? Really a turn off when they are so filthy and for this reason unfortunately wouldn't come back to this particular branch.

Went on a Friday night & it was packed. Long queue for the carvery but didn’t take too long to get to counter. Chef guy slicing the meats was very friendly & gave good sized portions. Waitress was very attentive & kept checking on us that we were happy but not overbearing. The only complaint I have with this place is that their beef joints are rubbish, full of chewy veins & fatty. We’ve been here approximately once a month for last year & beef quality never improves! The gammon, pork & turkey quality is always perfect so it’s disappointing that they don’t improve the beef joints. I’m guessing if they did then more people would have it which would reduce their profits! Always a great selection of vegetables & ice cream puddings are a nice ending to a good meal.Very good value, especially with the vouchers they often have.

This was a last minute plan but 2 of us went here for lunch. Got a table and ordered drinks, and both went for just the normal Carvery. Gammon, pork, beef and turkey . The selection of veg is ok not sure what some of the concoctions where as not everything had a label. Unfortunately was no bread sauce so don’t know if it’s stopped . Was ok just average but didn’t help sat there waiting to pay so we got up and payed at the bar to speed it up.

Ok as far as carvery go this isnt badIt's a bit unorganised but the fact they do lamb pork as well as the usual us a plus.Staff serving are rude they ask what meat in a quiet effeminate voice and get fed up because no one hears them

Food is what it is for a toby not Michelin star but still nice. Worth every penny my daughter even got a present n saw father christmas she was well happy

Food is nice enough, kitchen staff all look quite grubby though, I’m not sure why it’s needed but there was a kids entertainer walking around telling jokes and making balloon animals, I’m sorry but squeaking balloons are incredibly annoying and the noise of those while you’re eating and trying to have a conversation is horrid, also the entire building is starting to look a little run down, it could do with some much needed TLC

Always enjoy time in here, good for drinks, breakfast or carvery. Always seems busy, good choice of drinks and reasonabley priced.

We first visited the Hilsea Toby while holidaying last year. Despite it being a busy night the staff coped well, the price was fair but the food was only warm at best, the plates well-worn and the place was in need of some drastic TLC. Oh and the so-called rewards on the app failed...We have found the incidence of tepid food at Tobys becoming more frequent, so we have decided enough is enough. Although some places offer to microwave it, it is against their strict food safety policy and should be replaced with fresh.Complaints to M&B about food temperature, quality and safety were initially ignored despite months of gentle reminders and even though they finally promised to investigate there have been no reassurances, apart from the matter is now closed. As we value our health, we won’t be rushing back to this or any other Toby until this evasive company gets its act together, offers food that is hot and ensures safety policies are adhered to.As a once loyal customer (20 years), it’s sad to see a once-respected restaurant chain sinking fast. Even their money-off vouchers on an app, provided it works, won’t tempt us back until the tepid food problem is sorted.Perhaps they should re-brand the chain The Titanic!

After leaving a disappointing review in past months about visits to Hilsea for a Carvery meal I was today contacted by email with a response. This has prompted me to leave another review which frankly I was not going to bother with but in view of the response being in line with the attitude at that time of complaining, here we go.....I had to make a trip to Portsmouth for anearly appointment and upon arriving well in advance decided to have breakfast at the Toby Carvery. 8.30am being much quieter and not as busy as we had experienced during the day I thought it has got to be better. I was greeted by a member of staff at the bar as you walk through the door. They were pleasant enough but just wanted to take your order and payment, no small talk other than to explain what I needed to do. I found a table, selected a plate of food from the selection available which was varied, unfortunately no fried slice and found a table. There was nice quiet music playing in the background, all very soothing. Yes this is much better than the previous visit. Then I tucked in.... ....... God No !!!! The food is cold again (well warmish) in my book cold. The actual food was lovely so no fault of the cook. The fried eggs were not snotty, the bacon was not dried out, they would be my first positive turn offs. They just do not seem able to keep the ruddy food hot!. clearly food sitting under hot lamps in just not adequate. This is what needs to be addressed. Normally I would have pushed the plate away but in view of the fact the food was actually nice and ate it and just vowed to myself never to return, 3 visits are more than enough chances to give a place before you realise...No more. Whilst sitting there it also gave me the opportunity to have a good look at the place which when with others you are less likely to do. The place is actually very dirty!. The skirting board where I was sitting in a corner area does not look like it had been cleaned in months and months and there was gravey splashed down the wall. Looking closer at the table I thought ah same as before not cleaned but then I wondered was this the debris falling from above me from the well woodwormed beams.... I didnt want to think about it further. I also wondered whether the gentleman that arrived in front of me at 8.30 (the same person I had previously complained to on the last reported visit) was in fact the Manager. If it was, I am even more less impressed with how he handled the situation of the day. replace the manager change the system for keeping food hot, deep clean and who knows !

Usually quite good carvery but yesterday was not, no beef and veg was uninteresting and not fresh. Needs some greens not pasta, all was substandard, one man walked out loudly.

Booked a table for dinner on New Years Day which was fine. Staff were very welcoming, drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. However the queue for the carvery was over 20 minutes and whilst the meat was well cooked and tasty everything was luke warm and was actually cold by the time we finished. For somewhere that calls themselves a carvery the whole food experience was disappointing, there are pubs that serve a far better Sunday roast at a better price.

First visit as we had heard good things about the Carvery. There was a long queue to get served at carvery, 15 min wait approx. However, great choice of meats and ample veg, all piping hot and delicious! Like a proper home cooked meal! We will be returning!

Went New Years Day but, contrary to the on-line information and the brochure in house, there was no lamb to be seen. As we had gone specifically to enjoy lamb, we were not too happy. What was available was OK, although the meat portions could have been better.

Not a bad meal not wonderful but it's not the Ritz food hot reasonable price was ok would go back think soft drinks a bit over priced

Went for evening carvery on 26 November, and breakfast on 27th. In the evening it was very busy, (there was an offer of 50% off on the internet), but the waitress was excellent, bought the drinks to the table, then we joined a small queue for the carvery. There was three types of potato, loads of veg, huge Yorkshire puds, and four different meats to choose from, all cooked very well. If you've got a big appetite, this is the place to go.

14 of us volunteers went to Toby carvery Wednesday evening 6.30pm . Warm welcome from manager . If you did not like carvery there were options available . Waitress extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble . Surprised when we ask for a jug of water to find out it would be glasses of water delivered . Service good and surroundings very festive . £10.79 for 2 courses mon-Friday, can recommend the profiteroles they were a delicious finish to the main meal .

Made a order for a takeaway today . Ordered a number of starters, a Childs roast and two fudge cakes .

I visited here, a few weeks ago, with my brother and Mum. Its the first time I have been to a carvery for many years.

The roast is usually fairly good. This time the meat portions were better. But the meal was let down by the roast potatoes not being fully cooked. As usual we queued for about 10 mins. Kept seeing the roast potatoes tray being empty and the kitchen staff not refilling it straight away. They topped up the tray with part cooked potatoes. I did mention this to the waitress but she laughed nervously and said they were busy. My thought is if you advertise half price meals, as they do quite regularly, then make sure you can cope with demand.

Ordered same meal that has been enjoyed multiple times in restaurant it. Drove to collect and on arrival home found that it was missing multiple items and cold! Being a ‘meat free carvery’ the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes make up the body of the dish - we had 2 roast potatoes and no Yorkshire’s. There was also no cauliflower cheese or any sauces provided.

Our large work group of 16 visited here on a Sunday night after travelling for 4.5 hours. We only wanted a light meal such as a sandwich and tried to order some until the chef popped out and told us that it was a sunday and you cant order them. I opted for the sharing platter which i didnt really check out as it was getting late and wished i had when it came out. I've never seen such a bizarre collection of food, there was yorkshire puddings and gravy alongside garlic bread and pigs in blankets and stuffing balls and roast potatoes, plus deep fried chicken and bbq sauce, all absolutely weird and didnt go together. My friend ordered the giant filled yorkshire, unfortunately it was filled with nachos, guacamole and pulled pork. As you might have guessed

Oh dear! My partner and I visited last Thursday. Staff helpful and shown to a table. We queued for the carvery and it was at this point we were shocked how filthy the place was. Cobwebs everywhere, every surface greasey to the touch. Food was average and luke warm. Yorkshires described as being crisp, light and fluffy. Ours were far from that. Need to employ a cleaner and sharpen your act. There are many eateries out there.

We had a lovely Carvery meal when we arrived choice of four meats plenty of vegetables and roast potatoes and ash potatoes.Staff were friendly and polite really couldn’t do enough.Following-morning tried all you could eat breakfast was not disappointed.Definetly recommend this Toby Carvery. Friday night is quiz night highly entertaining. Well worth visiting.

Llegamos a las 3. 45 pm los domingos habiendo reservado previamente. El camarero vino a nuestra mesa 30 segundos después de que nos sentamos y asumimos que queríamos el asador y las instrucciones parloteadas a la velocidad de la luz y luego desaparecieron. Fuimos a los baños antes de conseguir nuestra comida, para encontrar que los cubículos de ambas mujeres estaban desprovistos de papel higiénico. Luego, hicimos cola durante un tiempo considerable para nuestra comida, ya que solo un servidor estaba tratando de arreglárselas solo. La comida real era buena, aunque la carne era casi toda gorda. Yorkshire y Turquía fueron muy agradables. Al pedir la factura nos sorprendió descubrir que el asado cuesta 10. 29 por persona en domingo. . . cuando son solo 7. 29 por la misma comida durante la semana. Me sentí un poco como una experiencia de cinta transportadora. ¡Entramos y salimos en 40 minutos, incluso con la cola! Pensaré dos veces antes de ir de nuevo. Mejor comida y servicio en la cafetería North End, y por casi la mitad del precio.

Hace un par de meses llegamos para una comida (sin reservar) tuvimos que esperar más de una hora. Cuando finalmente se les dio una mesa, se pusieron en el área de bebidas en una mesa sin tocar, primera etapa de decepción. En cola lo que parecía una eternidad. Una vez en el servidor y al ver la elección de comida que quedaba (no mucho) decidimos irnos y asumimos que habíamos salido tan tarde en el día (sábado) que se estaba acabando. Hoy (de nuevo el sábado) pensamos que el clima estaba húmedo, frío y soplando, tendríamos algo de comida reconfortante, un buen 'asado'. Esta vez reservamos! para 3 . 15 pm. Mostrado a nuestra mesa (otra vez sin tocar), recogimos nuestra comida y luego la metimos. . . . . . ¡comida fría! ! . . . De mala gana le pedimos al camarero (y yo uso ese término sin apretarlo) que cocinara la comida en el microondas para calentarla. Lo observamos ir a la cocina y en menos de un minuto salió el chef y, a su vez, sondeó los diversos recipientes. Luego nos devolvieron la comida con "todo listo, espero que disfruten sus comidas". ¡Solo que todavía hacía frío! ! Tenía crujiente de cerdo en el plato, estaba muy frío y esto en un microondas definitivamente ahora estaría caliente. . Luego observé al chef cambiar todos los recipientes por NUEVOS alimentos frescos y obviamente CALIENTES. Regresé al escritorio y expliqué. ¡El tipo fue muy educado y MUY condescendiente! ! Me sugirió que reemplazara mi comida. Miré la cola, que ahora era muy larga. Así que me negué a hacer cola nuevamente y dije que no estaba feliz de hacer eso. Okey dijo, bueno, que tengas un buen día. No estaba en absoluto interesado en absoluto, se dijo esto mientras se completaba la salsa y ni siquiera hacía contacto visual. . . . Si buscas ser patrocinado y comer comida fría, este es el lugar para ir. En eso no te decepcionará. Francamente, daría una gran litera. Se ponen tan ocupados que parece que no tienen que preocuparse por los estándares.

Hemos visitado aquí en muchas ocasiones y es muy impredecible para la comida, pero tengo que decir que esta vez fue muy bueno. Yo y mi esposo comimos carne asada y pavo y el pavo se derritió en la boca, ¡encantador! Mamá tenía gammon asado y dijo que era hermosa y que es muy exigente con gammon. Los postres también eran encantadores, aunque no pudimos tener nuestra primera opción, pero no importa, fueron muy agradables. Nuestro servidor fue muy educado y servicial. En general, una visita muy agradable.

Dejé de ir aquí hace un tiempo, pero decidí ver si las cosas habían mejorado.

Recientemente visité el asador Toby para un asado nocturno y me quedé un poco decepcionado, pero hoy decidí probar su desayuno buffet, ya que había estado un par de años atrás y realmente lo disfruté. Mis dos amigos y yo llegamos justo después de las 9 de la mañana y había una pequeña cola que no tardó mucho en llegar. Me gusta que pague al principio para que pueda evitar la incómoda espera para pagar la factura cuando esté listo para comenzar. El desayuno ilimitado cuesta 4. 69, que me pareció un valor increíble. Entonces puedes tomar té o café ilimitados para 2. 09. Recientemente fui a una cuchara grasienta local y me costó mucho más que esto y realmente no lo disfruté. El único inconveniente real de toda la experiencia fue que la comida no estaba demasiado caliente, pero aún así era muy sabrosa. Podría haber tenido "salsa de desayuno", pero no estaba muy seguro de qué era eso, así que no lo probé, ya que me pareció un poco extraño, pero ¿tal vez eso haya calentado la comida? Soy bastante quisquilloso cuando se trata de salchichas, pero descubrí que las de esta mañana son de muy buena calidad y realmente disfrutamos de las hierbas en ellas, ya que daban un sabor encantador. También me encantó la papa, el tocino, el queso y el hachís de cebolla, lo cual fue genial, ya que recuerdo haberlo disfrutado nuevamente cuando vine hace un par de años.

We visited here at 8pm. It was busy. We ordered 2 carveries, I roast sandwich and 3 drinks. My husband and I had finished our dinners before the sandwich came out, which was only after we had chased it, our drinks came over half way through our meal. The yorkshires were cold, the veg were lukewarm and the beef was really fatty, hardly any meat. This is the most disappointing meal I have had in a long time and I can say we will never be going back!

Booked a table for 6 people at 1730 and turned up at 1725. I was the first of my party to turn up. I asked if I could sit at the table as I did not feel comfortable waiting in the bar on my own and wasn’t allowed to due to “policy”. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, I didn’t want to sit at anyone else’s table but as a woman on my own I did not feel comfortable sitting in the bar. I know it doesn’t bother a lot of people but it bothers me. But no apparently rules are rules.

Very nice Toby Carvery in a beautiful building. Got seated right away in a very nice room, and service was good. However we had to stand and wait for the chef to come and carve the meat and after waiting several minutes he came back and apologized and told us he been in the toilet which was too much information really! Let’s hope he washed his hands. The meat was nice, the Yorkies and the roast potatoes cooked in dripping (!) were excellent but some of the other vegetables were lukewarm at best. However it’s still great value for money.

Went for a Roast on the off chance. It was a great experience. Got a table without booking. Even though it was busy. The carvery looked very very good. Had Roast Turkey with all the trimmings. There was a choice of four meats, Turkey, Pork, Gammon and Beef. Yorkshire of course and various vegetables. It all tasted great and was very tasty and fresh. Various sauces and gravies. If you want a great Roast try this place for sure. Can’t wait to go there again.

The Toby lost our booking and told us we’d need to wait at least an hour instead of offering a way to help. For a place continuously trying to get people to book a table, they seem to struggle with keeping track of tables. Even when you have a text confirming the booking.

I have just come home from visiting my local Toby Carvery. I hadn't visited in a long time and was really looking forward to it. We booked a table for 18.45 and really glad we did as it was so busy!

Taken here by the in laws and was a little apprehensive as I've been disappointed with Tobys before. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was quite empty. I think this helped. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and the food fresh. I was pleased with the cost of my meal and the refill soft drinks are a bonus! Didn't have room for pudding!

Going here with my grandparents (who are both regulars every Sunday), they were dismayed to find out that the selection of vegetables was very sparse- things such as red cabbage, cauliflower cheese etc. typical dishes that are served there had been left out, and instead there was only a small selection. My grandmother, and a couple from another table decided a manager needed to be called, and asked him why they weren’t any vegetables, his answer was simply because it wasn’t busy enough. This I believed was acceptable, however for the dismayed parties, they were very upset as they felt this was a complete run for their money; they weren’t getting the full range.

.despite asking repeatedly... How difficult is it? Not safe for youngsters is it? ... Get a screwdriver and fit some locks... .

Greeted upon arrival and seated quickly. Was taken to the furthest table away even though place was nearly empty.

Greeted lovely, table service lovely, food que AWFUL! We stood in the que watching the man serving- wearing no gloves, giving out a cheeky sausage to his chosen customers (not us lol), while we decided which meat was on the cleanest tray. We went with the gammon as it was fresh out but was dumped onto the dirty tray so we asked for the top cut. To be honest all the meat trays were covered in old cut meat and dry meat juices down the sides, we knew then we weren’t getting the roast dinner we had planned on. Next was the stuffing- which hadn’t made the oven‍♀️ the potatoes were hot but thin and crispy was the only option. Veg was simple- carrots/peas/onion/corn on the cob (bit strange). NOW this is where it all went wrong for us... the kitchen door is wide open.... DO NOT LOOK IN THE KITCHEN DOOR! boiled potatoes on the floor, dirty/grimy cabinets, no one was wearing gloves and poor choice of verbal banter...To give the floor manager her due she was trying to tell one of the kitchen staff to clean up- she was ignored so started to do it herself. To end, the gravy was toooo thick and lumpy.

I wouldn't even give this a one if i didn't have too but i have to review this to let you all know this place gave me and my partner serious food poising to the extent that we did not really start eating properly for nearly a week i actually lost money as i could not work on the day after we ate there but there is no point talking with these people as they ask evidence which i cannot provide as my GP is not open on the Saturday i have had this issue before. So the only way i can maybe get some recompense is to shame them on here and hopefully steer people clear

Food was good although the veg looked dry under the heat lamps. Odd smell where we were sat, so asked to sit elsewhere else & were offered the table opposite! Veg had been spilt on the floor by the carvery, squashed & not cleaned up creating a bit of a slip hazard. All that said, the food was lovely and superb value for money. One other point, the prices on the bill were cheaper than those shown on our bill
