This is one of the oldest pubs in England and I make it my mission to visit as many as I can whenever the opportunity arises. Normally, they tend to be very popular with visitors as well as locals, after all, historic pubs are one of the things that we are the world leaders in!! The Angel was not the case, it was very much a locals bar and all the better for it!! The service was as it should be, really friendly with a lovely smile. The drinks were fine and the prices were excellent considering the venue. I guess you could consider it a bit rough and ready but we were more than happy with the banter amongst the locals and the friendly service, I would not hesitate to pop in again

Immediately made welcome by the staff and locals. Interesting history dating back to 1135, though mostly rebuilt after the great Andover fire in the 1400's, there are many old timbers and uneven ceilings. Two courtyards and a good atmosphere, we intended to return later in the day but run out of time. However, we will be back.

This pub has so much history. It was used as a coach house and many famous people over the years have stayed here. The history with dates they stayed is on a board in the courtyard area. Chris and Caz are great hosts,as well as the barman on the night before our breakfast visit. The breakfast choices are excellent and the bottomless coffee for £1.00 is very good value and is real coffee not cheap instant. We arrived hot and tired and in prickly mood. That state of being was soon dispersed by the welcoming bar staff. Pints of excellent Old Speckled Fowl in hand we were invited to order our victuals by a comely, smiling wench. Simple fare was on offer. I had plaice and chips as befits an Officer and a Gentleman, a,piping hot and well trimmed plate quickly arrived. The Lady Wife ordered Em,X and Chips. A most generous and well cooked platter of food was presented to her. So there you have it, unbeatable value, charming and friendly staff. The other patrons of this splendid hostelry were colourful and chummy. .......

I visit the Angel Inn in Andover on a regular basis, the Landlady Karen and Landlord Chris are excellent hosts, always have time to chat and have a laugh with the customers. There's plenty of outside seating in the Courtyard out front or the decked garden at the rear, in the winter months there's a warm, roaring Log Fire to the front of the pub. The Angel has a selection of Real Ales, lagers, wine's and spirit's on offer. They also have a good selection of meals and snacks on offer at lunchtimes and I would highly recommend the hearty Sunday Lunch available Sunday's between 12 and 4pm and very reasonably priced. Karen (Kaz) the Landlady is the cook and every meal I've had at the Angel Inn has been excellent and very filling. There's a good selection of music available on the Jukebox and the first Friday night of the month is Karaoke and the other 3 is live music!!

Popped in yesterday for Sunday lunch. The roast on offer at £6.95 was good value. You get a well-filled plate with tasty beef (assuming you order the beef) and a lot of vegetables. The top bar is laid out as a very old-fashioned dining room which is quite a contrast to the lower bar which is more down to earth.Drinks were served in glasses that could have done with a bit more of a scrub (both of them) and that puts you off a bit.Pleasant and attentive staff and good value for money make it better than many other places but all in all it does feel like a good spring clean is in order. If you like an old-fashioned pub where so many others have become characterless then this is a good place to go.

So, my daughter and i found ourselves in Andover for the day whilst the boys went fly fishing. We didn't have any expectations of the village but we really wanted to find a pub with the quintessentially English atmosphere and we certainly found it. Now we did ask a rather silly question of the proprietors sonn who was standing by the entrance " Do you sell coffee?" to which the young man replied "sure" so we went to the bar and asked for a latte and cappuccino. We soon learnt our choices were percolated coffee and percolated coffee. It came out on the cooler side but we were served with a smile. The fire was warm and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. We don't think they get many patrons on the tourist trail which probably explains their relationship between one off customers and their locals. That's ok... It was all part of the experience. We stayed for hot chips - now they were divine, read up on the history, had a conversation with an elderly lady who clearly was a local and really enjoyed our visit. We now rate our coffee experiences with Andover and have developed our own 'Andover 'rating.

Rarely do reviews however this pub/ restaurant deserves a few lines. Sorry to say that this venue and indeed the food served is simply not great. 5 adults visited for lunch on 11/8/15. A number of the items on the menu were simply unavailable. In fairness our choices were brought to the table fairly promptly however the meals were poor both in terms of quality and presentation. Having booked the table for Sunday lunch for 3 the Wednesday evening before, we arrived at Sunday lunchtime expecting our table, oh no - no booking could they find. A table was found for us, at the back of the restaurant in the gloomy darkness. There were three of us myself and my son and his friend. The water was delivered in a very unclean carafe. We had three roast dinners one beef and two pork. vegetables were served in some kind of tin dishes, enough for the three of us but the gravy was in the smallest gravy boat I have ever seen and enough for one. Potatoes were hard and the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked and hard. Then desert! A great disappointment - a chocolate parfait with white sauce which was very small and really only chocolate ice cream, the lemon tart slice was so very small with one teaspoon of clotted cream and the only saving grace was the creme brûlée with a handmade shortbread biscuit. They were £5.50 each with the brûlée at £5.95. at £71.05 I was very disappointed indeed, you used to be such a warm and inviting coaching inn with real menu's not paper ones that were damp and not really something you wanted to touch. Just a standard paper serviette - and just a spoon for desert, no fork and no serviette. Shall not be back Angel Inn.

We visited for Sunday lunch. It took 50 minutes from ordering our food for it to arrive, everything touched by gravy was biblically hot everything else stone cold especially the plate. The vegetables arrived in a small separate camping tin which was allegedly enough to feed two (only if we were hobbits). We asked the staff why things were taking so long and despite checking twice they just kept back saying it is on its way, any explanation would have helped. We did not stay for dessert as we were running out of day light. To start I had the Duck Skewers...1 word DELICIOUS!, For Main I had the chefs specialty steak cut....1 more word PHENOMENAL & for pudding I had the Cheese board...another word...PERFECT. The waitress could recommend foods & wines for me which I always find very useful, We had our steak serve with a £17.00 bottle of Pinot Grigrio which was recommended & was lovely & crisp. Is it any surprise that pubs are closing so often? This should be a great high street coaching inn, but it's the usual story - it probably sits on the owners books at a high price and would cost a fortune to really spruce up.When we visited, the tables were dirty and sticky, the floors not much better and we asked for a glass of wine but the bar lady couldn't supply a clean glass even after the second request. It's in a privileged position, far better than Wetherspoon will be, but needs to be a much better offer if it is to survive let alone grow.

We had our belated works Christmas lunch here. There were 14 of us and the food was not good for the majority of us. Maybe it was the "special 3-course lunch" they couldn't cope with, even though they knew what we wanted as we had all pre-ordered! The main menu being served to others in the restaurant looked really good though. My king prawn cocktail was very watery like the lettuce wasn't dried properly and main course fish (bream) was very small and served with burnt potato slices and completely raw broccoli. Those who had steak and chips and lamb shank said it was OK though. Some of their starters were OK too, except the cheese and squash tart - this was a very strange puff pastry affair with what looked like pickle in it. The desserts fared no better, with only 3 cheeseboards brought to the table and being expected to share between more than 6 of us when we were spaced out on a large table of 14 and not being given any plates or cutlery!! Coffee was a tasteless filter served with milk (lessons to be learned from the lovely Nero's opposite), where I headed soon after. Overall impression - it was as bad as when 4 of us visited 2 years ago. We won't be having our staff lunch there again - and if we do I certainly will make my apologies.

Have visited before for a reasonably priced ordinary pub lunch. Yesterday (not holiday season) found a table easily, approached quite quickly by over stretched young waiters. Grubby old menus. Order taken by two waiters, interminable wait for 2 glasses of wine which would have calmed our frustrations. Food took a long time to come. (Tip - tell customers when there is a long wait in the kitchen). Food ok , what we expected, & reasonably priced. Lunch was supposed to be a little treat after shopping.

The Angel Inn appeared to be a good option on the first day of the holiday. The food was ok but overpriced for what was produced. My wife had Haddock in Beer Batter with salted chips in a bucket as per menu. The haddock had been overcooked and the chips plonked on the same plate, a basic plate of food touching on the ten pound mark. My in laws ordered two bowls of the soup of the day, which was served up just before the rest of the party was about to leave. I would expect the soup of the day to be ready to serve, may be not. We gave this place a miss for the rest of our holiday as there is many other places in Lymington serving similarly priced food, but better quality.
