Fish and chips were terrible - chips uncooked, batter and fish had no taste £17.50 what a waste of money- the shop should be shut down

Went and picked up 2 large cod and one small chips, small mushy peas and small curry sauce. Cost £19! The cod was virtually non existent it was so dried up and cold as were the chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Would definitely not recommend to anyone and will never visit again.

Steak & kidney pie was ok, chips were good sized portions but soggy, the small cod was yes perfect size but almost inedible - tough & chewy. Won’t be going back

Decent chippy, but the fish is cooked with the skin on. Would be easier to eat and be less soggy if they skinned the fish, like many other shops.

Super service, freshly cooked chips, generous portions and friendly service. We placed a large order for business lunch and they opened early to have it cooked in time for collection. Definitely use again.

The best fish & chips in Twyford! We have been a few times since moving to Twyford and always treat ourselves to fish & chips on special occasions. The portion sizes are very generous but my cat doesn't mind :) Freshly cooked and battered, quick & friendly service.

We collect from this F&C shop every few weeks. The food is always consistently cooked. Fish and chips is so easy to get wrong..soggy, tasteless, under cooked/over cooked. We've had one poor chip experience since 2018 and given the consistency rich experience of home-cut chips, fresh oil and fluffy, crispy batter that is an excellent statistic! I was aghast when I saw the other reviews here as the team is always working and good food should gain recognition when acknowledged. I then realised those reviews are years old and probably from another era of management.

Popped there on a Friday evening. The Que was not to long waited 5mins. Chips just as I like them and the spring roll was light and crispy. Will go again.

The chips were lovely. But the cod was awful, the fish meat was dry and the batter was chewy and like cardboard. Clearly reheated. I used to be a regular customer and always loved their fish and chips. But after tonight I won’t be going back there again.

As I’ve lived in twyford for 22 years have always gone to this fish and chip shop and it’s been brilliant, slowly I’ve noticed a few changes for example soggy batter. This occasion as you can see from the photo I ordered small chips a battered sausage and a chicken pie. The battered sausage is practically a normal sausage with minimal batter at all the chicken pie was really hard on top and the chicken was extremely chewy almost inedible hadn’t I been so hungry and as for the cold and hard chips that will certainly be my last time going there unless they change the way they do things. Also the girl who served me had no customer service skills whatsoever! Change your staff and change the cook behind that counter and I’ll return I will be spreading the word!!!

Well must say this fish and chip shop is so tasty would very highly recommend, the chips is so good its obvious it's all freshly cooked and the staff so friendly, just wished I lived closer as I'm from se London on a visit. Hopefully they bring the shop closer to me or I'd be coming again just to eat

I always enjoy the fish and chips at the Fat Fish Twyford. I have always received fish that is fresh and a good sized portion for the large fish. It has been consistently good. Chips not greasy. Service quick and pleasant. Good to have this traditional fish and chips locally.

The best fish and chips , food is always fresh and service was brilliant , nice to still have a traditional chips shop still around. Would 100% recommend !! :)

Long day at work and really wanted to avoid cooking, as I was particularly hungry. The portion sizes of both cod and chips were certainly not an issue, but I question how long the chips had been cooked and the quality of the oil used to do so. There was a very unpleasant taste to the chips and the cod batter was nowhere near my preferred crispy. I take issue with shops which cook huge batches of food and allow them to sit in cabinets for hours on end. What a shame that a place like Twyford cannot boast good quality fish and chips as a meal option for busy commuters.

Once upon a time you could rely on the fat fish to provide quality for a fair price but things must have changed, the so called large portions are limited by the type of packaging. lets go back to wrapping the food in paper.

I had spoken to a member of staff at the Fat Fish to pre-warn that we would be turning up at approx. 8.30 with 20 hungry children in tow following a night hike from Hurst to Twyford. We arrived expecting to have to wait but the staff there already had our chips wrapped and packed into a box so they were ready straight away! Very tasty chips and a very efficient service, thank you!

Fui esta noche por un bacalao grande y papas fritas. Cuando la comida se colocó en bolsas en el mostrador, verifiqué que era grande y me dijeron que sí. Llegué a casa desempacada y estaba convencido de que me habían estafado. Para confirmar mi suspensión, mi compañero volvió a la tienda veinte minutos más tarde y pidió un bacalao pequeño y adivinó que ambas piezas eran del mismo tamaño. Ambos teníamos el pescado, pero ambas porciones de patatas fritas fueron en la papelera. Evita este lugar. No hay muchas opciones de comida en el pueblo, pero hazte un favor y no les des el dinero que tanto te mereces, estarás decepcionado.

Cómo han caído los poderosos. Lo que una vez fue un gran chippy es ahora el lugar para evitar. La selección de la comida era mínima, las porciones pequeñas (ollas con salsa de curry medio llenas, porciones de chips exiguas) pero lo peor era el servicio. El tipo de aspecto que obtendría de alguien que estaba a punto de cuadrarse con usted en un pub. Sentí que debería haberme disculpado por atreverme a pedir comida. Al final me sentí afortunado de haber escapado con mi comida de segunda clase. Hazte un favor y evita este lugar a toda costa.

The Fat Fish used to be the best fish and chip shop in the area. But, what has happened? Hadn't visited for a few months but popped in yesterday to get dinner on my way home.

Pretty standard fish and chips, but rather expensive for what it is (£7.10 for a small cod and chips).

Average quality fush and chips, nothing outstanding. Charge much more than others in the area but the quality is not there. Wont go back when there's a cheaper, better quality, better service chippy up the road!

Went in to get my lunch one Friday and the staff were very friendly and smiley, the fish and chips was very nice, one of the best I've ever had. Also the portion size is quite generous.

You get standard fish and chips here. It's no better or worse than any other fish and chippie around. The price was expensive, the Quality was ok (not great ) and the staff were indifferent.

A menudo a mediados de semana hemos estado descontento con la calidad de el pescado y las patatas fritas, pero al último sábado por la noche después de un largo día, decidimos darle otra oportunidad el lugar y el nivel era muy alto. Pescado muy bien cocinado, aunque hubiese preferido la fichas han sido un poco más crujiente, ya que siempre parece pasada.

Cod realmente sabrosos y las patatas fritas que un lujo después de un largo y ajetreado día. Las salsa tartar es un gran elogio a esta comida tradicional británica. Es una lástima que la mujer que me atendió parecía bastante descontento!

I've been Two time in the last month, on Wednesday and Friday. Fish and oil Was good and fresh. The Staff was rude and arrogant. The staff should to learn education.I will never come back

Although sadly I can't eat fish, I do love the chips! Best ever. My family are regulars and my son also likes the corndogs.

Food is fine but for the last 6 visits when you ask for small fish at first they say fine but then another member of staff comes out and says they have none and you have to buy large fish when clearly they have small portions but just want to make more money. Will not be going there again. Staff unfeindly and one member rude.

I had had a long day and wanted something fresh, quickly. This was the place (cod, actually) and I wasn't disappointed. And they take credit cards, too.

I am glad the quality of the food and service here is excellent. Most importantly, I am local to The Fat Fish...;) I know the establishment has had a revamp awhile ago, but I must mention, it does look so much brighter, smarter and cleaner overall, very pleased indeed.I wonder why they haven't set up a home delivery service? at least within 3 miles or something...Either way, you won't lose my custom...;)

Moved to the area from Henley recently and am already missing Smart's Fish Bar which is quite frankly excellent. As my first job was serving chips and I have been known to drive miles out of my way to visit my favourite chipper I'm a bit fussy. Didn't think much of this place when I visited - overpriced, too greasy and not crispy enough - but having tried the rest it seems this is the best there is. Presentation great and very clean, but by no means a destination chip shop...

The Fat Fish is our chippie of choice in the area but our last experience was a little disappointing. All of the food was pretty cold, even the items that we saw freshly microwaved(!) and the batter was a little soggy!But they do serve real 'chip shop chips' and we'll be back.

We live locally but would willingly travel to get food from here. Fish and chips always freshly cooked in light batter. You won't find better.

With plenty of competition locally, residents are really spoilt for choice in Twyford. This venue offers the best, freshest and tastiest fish and chips for miles around. We won't go anywhere else!

Whilst we have a number of chip shops on our doorstep, we always choose to drive further afield to The Fat Fish. The fish is always freshly cooked, flakey with crispy batter and served with a big slice of fresh Lemon, which is a lovely touch, you get a big portion of fresh chips and the staff are friendly.

Just moved into the area and nice quick food so opted for the fat fish and it didn't let us down. It is what it is - a good quality chippy that provides good fish. Only tried it once so far so not sure about reliability but we will go back based on the first time.

Had one of those last minute - 'could really do with fish and chips' - urges.So a quick web search and off to a nearby chippy.What can I say? The cod was cooked fresh - always a good sign and was indeed excellent when we tucked in later. However I am never too sure when a menu has 'large' cod listed: I wouldn't have classed these as any larger than normal. As for the chips: Oh dear. They certainly were not fresh and were very poor. I am glad that I only went for one bag. For the price (very expensive) there must be a better alternative.

I went in at approx 8.30pm on a Friday night and not only was I very rudely told that the only food left was what was in the cabinet or chips but then when I took home my chips (which cost £2.40) they tasted like saw dust. I could not eat them at all!! They were absolutely horrid and tasted like they were made a week ago! It was shocking! I would have returned them immediately had I not lived 15 minutes away. I was severely disappointed. And no I'm not 60, I'm 18 and massively disappointed by somewhere that I have been going with my family for years!

I have tried many and this place is consistently top rated, albeit that means there is usually a queue. Parking a bit awkward

The best fish & chip shop for miles, I travel from Reading just to getdecent fish & chips, The staff are all very polite and helpful, nothing is tomuch trouble, If you want to taste good fish & chips, then give The Fat Fisha try, you won't be disappointed.

Handy takeaway in the middle of the village. Seems popular and opens at lunchtime too. The food is of good fish and chip quality.Recommend going there for a slap-up!

I had a large cod and chips and the quality of food was excellent and could not be faulted. The prices are not cheap but they are neither massivly expensive. The decor is basic but you do not go to a chip shop for the decor. My only real issue was that it shuts at 9 which is a little early.

Really enjoy the Food at the Fat Fish its really fresh and tasty. Staff are always friendly highly recommend it.

At last Twyford have a good old fashioned chippy back in the heart of the village! Very tasty Haddock, home-made tartar sauce is a must try!

Good food. Exceptionally clean with a local council 5 star rating for cleanliness.

It's where most of the village go to on Friday nights hence the large queue!So do try another night if possible. Fish perfectly cooked, many range of fish cooked to order. All the usual traditional accompaniments (mushy peas, gherkins, pickled eggs etc) plus homemade tartars sauce.Great friendly staff who recognise and have banter with the customers.A firm favourite of mine and many other locals.
