The Tally Ho in Wokingham

We ordered food Sat evening while sat outside in front and nothing happened for ages. We waited well over half an hour then followed followed up and staff said it was delivered to wrong table which seemed unusual so we took a refund as we had finished our drinks and left. 🫤

Beautiful setting, lovely outdoor area & very warm & cosy indoor dining areas. Staff very nice, professional & welcoming.

Had Mother’s Day lunch here and whilst the food was very tasty, the service was unbelievably slow. Table for 3 people at 12pm and we got food (just main course) at 1.30pm - very tricky for a diabetic managing insulin as well as a hungry 4 yr old whose patience was really tested. The waiters were very apologetic - it didn’t seem to be their fault and they provided a discount but I don’t know why establishments take on more than they can clearly handle - it’s just stressful for everyone and ruins the experience.

4 of us here yesterday, the service was not only amazing but the food was outstanding. Special shout out to quite frankly the most phenomenal cheesecake I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Highly recommend to anyone looking for relaxed atmosphere with fantastic service & food. We will be back:)

Great food - really appreciated the choice of GF options. The Steak and Ale pie was superb. So many options that I don't usually get. This was third time visiting and will be back.

We had children in our party that had to wait over an hour and a half for their food. For the rest of the group starters were served in a timely fashion. After waiting for over an hour the main courses arrived in dribs and drabs. Some in our party had finished before others meals had arrived. We ordered extra sides. We were told they had run out of those ordered, yet they still appeared on our bill. When the mains arrived they were looking warm. One of the party waited nearly a hour for the chef to cut cheese for his cheese and biscuits. The person who appeared to be in charge offered no apology. Clearly this is the level of service they give and tough if you don’t like it. Looking for cold food, hours waiting, charged for food you don’t get? This is your place

Wonderful pub for a Sunday roast. We were a large group with a variety of requests and needs, and experienced great service and delicious food. Everything was perfect. It's not a cheap place, but it is cheerful.

The Tally Ho is such an incredible place!! I have lots of dietary requirements, so the fact that the allergens are listed underneath each dish on the menu is so helpful and reassuring! I'll be going back in a couple of weeks

Excellent service and food 👌. REALLY attentive table service, not overly crowded or expensive. Awful cold blast of air every time someone came in or out. The porch doors are too close together- they both end up being open at the same time - but more than made up for by the quality of the service and food.

Came here with the wife and the food was brilliant, service was good and quick. A bit on the pricey side but is well worth it. Will definitely be coming back again.

Really nice pub with some fantastic food. Even the salad was good! Service was a bit slow when it came to paying, but to be honest that's probably because it was just that busy. The staff were all lovley, and the food was beautifully presented. Also they did these envelopes before Christmas with surprise vouchers in, for use in Januaryand February, you couldn't open it until it came time to use it. These where a great idea, and I really enjoyed the anticipation built by them.

Lovely pub and is very local to us. Always good food and drink. Particularly enjoy outdoor area in the summer. Good for families or couples. Only disappointing thing is they don't take Amex

We've just returned from a wonderful lunch. Despite the restaurant being very busy, the staff kindly squeezed us in. Our waitress appeared as soon as we sat down, kindly greeted us, and took our drinks order. She returned quickly with our drinks and took our food order. Within 15 minutes our food arrived, hot and freshly cooked. My partner had the steak & ale pie, and I chose the fishcakes. They were both delicious! I cannot sing the praises of this beautiful country pub. It is warm and snug, which was perfect after a chilly January walk. The surroundings gardens looked so inviting. We'll be back in the Spring, when the daffodils are up!

Food was beautiful and host was very helpful with explaining all the Gins on offer. Would go back and recommend.

Amazing pub went for Sunday lunch and food was amazing. Didn't try the beers as I was driving :-( but looked to have a good selection.

Had lunch today (a Wednesday in January). The restaurant was very busy which created a good atmosphere. The staff, as always, were polite and professional. The food came in good time and was delicious. Mains and desserts enjoyed by the group. We will be back soon.

It was a quiet evening and the food was ok, however the cheddar fritter starter at £7 came with 3 small balls….yes only 3…..wow I must admit we were shocked . Recommend to avoid this if your used to a normal sized starter Initial waitress who served us was very nice indeed , the older chap after that was not the happiest person. We might go back

As we were passing by on a local walk on boxing day we decided to go for a quick drink. We’ve been going to this pub for the last 10 years as we live 2 minutes down the road from it. As we went in on arrival a lady that worked there very rudely said “we are all booked at the moment and you’ll have to sit outside”. (Bear in mind it’s mid december, don’t think anyone wants to sit outside). Then i said to her what about these 2 tables (we are a family of 7 so we need a big table or 2) and then even though they were “fully booked” she said “yes you can sit there but will need an adult on each table” , again extremely rudely. Then me and my family considered walking down to another pub due to the horrible manors of who ever this was and we had only been in here for 1-2 minutes. We did stay for a drink in the end because we have always come here but who ever this was with the awful manors and a right attitude needs to sort it out ASAP!

We were a group of six who had a fantastic New Year’s Eve at The Tally Ho. The service was truly exceptional, as was the food, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! The band that were playing were also very good, the atmosphere was great and it was a lovely way to see in the New Year. The whole evening far exceeded all expectations.

Excellent food, but a bit pricey. Asked for a house red, was offered a Malbec. Little did we know it would cost £34.95 for the bottle. Be aware.

Very nice. A bit dear, but I'm quite stingy.

It was ok. Mediocre Christmas food for a relatively large group. The steaks were overdone and salty, with cheesy chips with dried parmesan on the top. The vegetarian main was stodgy and flavourless. We visited last year for the same celebration last year and the food was very good. This year was a real disappointment.

Had a wonderful Sunday roast a week ago.

We had a wonderful experience at the Tally Ho, the service was excellent and the food (turkey roast dinner) was perfect with vegetables not over cooked as can been the case. Would definitely recommend that you try for yourselves and we will be back soon.

Great food and atmosphere, they didn't have the champagne in the wine list but they offered us an alternative that wasn't as good as they said it was but nevermind, we had a good time

🌟 Ambiance: The place is lovely and cosy, a great setting for a meal. 📋 Menu: The menu looks very appealing and creative, but my experience with the food fell short. 🍝 Food: Ordered pumpkin-stuffed pasta, and a sea bass with salad. While the flavours were unique, they were quite bland overall. The salad lacked dressing or maybe could improve the dish with mlre flavour, as the pasta was disappointingly tasteless. The lamb was ok, I could recommend it but I only tasted a bit. 🍷 Wine: The Malbec I ordered was a classic and absolutely delightful—definitely a highlight. 💰 Value: Prices don’t match the taste—overpriced for the quality of the dishes. 🤔 Verdict: I may give it another chance, but I’ll try different dishes next time. Lovely atmosphere, but the food experience needs improvement.

Had lunch here with a few friends, a lovely place and great food. The prices are reasonable and service very good. If you are nearby, we'll worth a visit.

Great Sunday Roast! highly recommend.

Went here for the first time with my family and newborn and the food was beautiful! I am gluten and dairy free and they have so many options which is so refreshing to see! Everything tasted fresh and each dish was full of flavour. The staff were great, they were polite and friendly, the only thing was they were a bit slow when we had finished and our dirty plates sat there for around 20mins before we had to ask for the bill. But the atmosphere is lovely and homely! UPDATE 8/11/24 Service was excellent this time around, was lovely that we received a complimentary glass of prosecco for our anniversary! Our waitress was so friendly and pleasant. Food was amazing! So brilliant that allergens are catered for as we are gluten free and dairy free. Loved that there were so many alternatives. Lovely setting as well! We had the lamb and sea bass fillets

Great food, there’s no question of that. We have to go to the bar to order food and drinks. They messed up our order so half our table had their meal and the other half had to wait 20 mins for theirs. It affected the whole experience. Nice choice of puddings. We were outside but blankets and heaters made it just warm enough.

Over-cooked/ burnt quiche and a bit of greenery not worth £13.50. Didn't want to complain at the time as l was out with friends for their birthdays.

2nd review - I recently visited Tally Ho for the second time, and I must say they have made significant improvements since my last visit. The overall experience was delightful, starting with the delicious food they served. The staff was friendly and attentive, promptly attending to our needs. Despite it being a busy Saturday, the staff made every effort to accommodate everyone, which was impressive. Additionally, they had a barbecue event in the back, adding to the enjoyable atmosphere. While the bar attendant informed me that they doesn't offer cocktails, they did provide a variety of alternative beverage options. Overall, this visit was a great experience. ------------------------------------------------ Beautiful location and they have taken every step for COVID safety. Food average, took 1 hour take the order and 15 min to deliver the food to the table. Staff not managed properly they are all over the place but nothings happening.

Have always passed by when working this way, always wanted to try. Stayed for the weekend up the road so booked a table for Saturday evening. Walked into a pleasant greeting, lovely warm cosy feel to a country pub. Was shown to our table which was next to open fire which was lovely as was turning cold outside. Waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Both had the Brie to start which came with a apple and cider relish, so tasty. Then had the wild boar pie, mash and veg which was delicious and the steak burger again delicious. No room for pudding. Very good prices, not disappointed at all. Would recommend. We will definitely make a trip up here again.

Come here for a couple years now never really had a issue but the other night someone decided to run a key or something of the sort from one end of my car to the other but there’s no cameras covering the front car park which is strange and apparently considering there was 10+looking out the window and 10+ in the garden nobody see anything nothing they could do wouldn’t go if you’ve got a nice car …….

Our first visit to this delightful restaurant. The decor is first class and there is a lovely calm atmosphere. All staff were professional, friendly and helpful. The food was well presented and delicious. I can recommend the lamb burger with glazed halloumi, which was very tasty. Others chose the steak burger with pulled pork, which was also good and the Caesar salad with chicken was very fresh. Desserts were delicious! Worth a visit!

We had lunch with our son and his partner. The Tally Ho is a striking pub that looks well maintained, has a large carpark and is very well presented inside. We had our dog with us and we're shown to a table inside as the weather was not great outside. Great selection of beers and a comprehensive menu. Our order was taken and served in good time and all four meals were delicious. We also had desert and have to say that the complete experience was exceptional.

The Tally Ho is an amazing place to spend time with friends and family. I’ve been there several times and every time the food was excellent, both taste and presentation. The atmosphere is very cosy and country side like pub. One of the best pubs in the area.

I think the best ploughman's lunch ever. Friendly and attentive staff and dog friendly. Good ale too.

I shared this meal with my special friends. They also liked it very much. The food was great served with a smile. I was amazed how busy ti's was but made no difference to the enjoyment of having freshly cooked food and good service. You say going again, certainly am as soon as able.

It’s a lovely pub and setting and the food is really tasty. Excellent service. Unfortunately the miserly portion size really let it down for us. Tiny amount for a Sunday roast. For the amount we paid three bits of potato, two thin slices of beef, a Yorkshire pudding and a tiny bit of cabbage wasn’t great.

We booked a table and went to the Tally Ho for lunch with our daughter on her 26th birthday, somewhere she has been to regularly, only to find they would not serve her alcohol as ''according to their policy, the server thought she might be under 25 and would be required to show age documentation (phone photo was not accepted)''. A birthday lunch sadly memorable for the wrong reason. Even though someone of 16 or 17 years old can legally be bought alcohol by an adult with a meal, I fully respect their legal right to not serve anyone they choose. As there is no mention of this age I.D. policy on the website, the online booking system or a mention when booking by phone. I would recommend anyone under 30(?) to take original age I.D. with them to avoid the disappointment we felt. Although the food was good, I won't be returning.

We had a fabulous lunch at the Tally Ho. Lots of gluten free options, various alternatives to a Sunday Roast, very attentive staff and the food was all exceptional.We shall return!

Upd: exactly one year later we came back (by coincidence) and it was just as lovely as I remembered. Great roast, incredible selection of sorbets for pudding and staff as wonderful as ever. Excellent pub with big car park and lots of outdoor seating. Food was great, one tiny thing was for some reason pork roast didn't have any Yorkshire pudding. Lovely staff, very polite and professional. Reasonable prices. Definitely will come again.

For a rare (child free!) evening out my husband and I chose the Tally Ho last night, but unfortunately left disappointed. The setting is absolutely beautiful, no better place to be on a nice summer’s evening. The service was great, however our food was inedible, in fact so bad my husband sent his back. We're not sure if they were just very busy, but it can’t be hard to get a burger and steak right, and both were poorly cooked and had a very burnt taste to them. It was such a disappointment as it is a lovely setting and the staff are very nice however given just how bad our food was, we will likely not return.

We were down this way visiting family and they had booked us in for a meal at the Tally Ho. From the moment we walked in the place it gave a rustic but fresh country pub vibe. The staff all evening were welcoming, attentive, polite and very professional. The menu offers a diverse array of foods from traditional burger and chips to Asian fusion food. There was also a vegetarian option. All drinks from wine to ales offered a great variety as well as soft drinks. The food on arrival was served hot and freshly made. It was all tasty judging by four clean plates. Pudding offers were what I would call traditional and again freshly made. Very seldom I gave anywhere a 5 star rating. All I can say is if you're in the area please try the Tally Ho. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

Great place for a drink or a nice meal all year round. Book it visiting at busy times. Chips with peppercorn sauce are divine! Pies are very good and rotating guest ales.

I had a chicken Caesar salad from the light bites menu, when it arrived I couldn't believe the size of it, it was tiny smaller than I would have expected of a starter, there was hardly any lettuce and the chicken was dry and tough and I didn't find any anchovies. Definitely not worth the price of £13.95.

Very nicely decorated, warm and welcoming. I had a selection of starters and nibbles, which sadly failed to impress. The deep-fried brie was raw in the middle, and rhubarb compote although looked amazing, lacked flavour. Parmesan truffle fries, ultra-small portion, no sign of truffle and only a smattering of parmesan. Nduja croquettes were tiny, but the aioli was outstanding. Chicken wings again lacking in flavour, chicken liver pate, nice enough but needed seasoning - In fact, all of it needed seasoning. All of the food looked good 👍 Sadly the only salt available is table sort which is damaging to human physiology containing only two minerals sodium and chloride. When you're pegging yourself as a luxury eatery, you'd think you would go the extra mile and put decent salt on the table. #itsthelittlethings The team was incredibly helpful, kind, courteous and friendly. Having said all that I would still return and give them another shot at the title. I didn't eat any main course as I feel you get a much better understanding of the culinary capabilities by choosing five or six starters. The upstairs gent's loo has a clear window so a keen-eyed motorist or walker could see your wedding tackle whilst pointing Percy at the porcelain.

They forgot a meal that we ordered, didn't do the obligatory check in and didnt take away our plates when finshed! Someone may of been having an off day....! Not complaining just reporting. And it was my mates birthday 🎂

Stumbled on The Tally Ho whilst our driving and stopped for lunch. What a lovely pub. Plenty of seating inside and out. Food was very good and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Will definitely return here if over in that neck of the woods again.

Food was a bit over cooked but nice place and staff

Arrived around lunchtime - mid week in May 2024. Didn’t have a booking but was happily offered a table for 2. Sat down and give menus, waited 20minutes to ask a member of staff walking by if we could order drinks, drinks order taken and food order. Waited another 15minutes to ask where our drinks were, member of staff said they were on their way. Waiting another 10 minutes and left taking our custom else where. There was 3/4 members of staff walking not doing a lot. Having worked in the hospitality industry I hate to give a bad review as I know how hard everyone does work, but this was a poor show, poor management and lack of communication between staff.

Came for a Roast on a busy Sunday. The food was delicious, and service very quick. the drinks were quite expensive in comparison to the food prices which felt fair. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub both indoors and outside. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Recently visited The Tally Ho on a sunny Sunday with my boyfriend. We had a reservation and got there a little early to sit in the glorious garden and have a drink. When time for our reservation we were shown to a table with a beautiful view. The staff was very warm and accommodating throughout. Our food arrived promptly and was piping hot - we both enjoyed it thoroughly 🙂 I'd highly recommend The Tally Ho to anyone who wants a lovely pub meal with excellent hospitality and service!
