We had a lovely meal in this atmospheric dog-friendly pub. The food was tasty and piping hot. Our server, Lucy, was friendly and attentive. She could not have done more for us. We’ll certainly be back.

Better off going to Toby carvery. The food was not nice. We were unable to try the stuffing as our forks would not go in it, For the price they charge and how long we waited for the food, It really was not worth it, At least at the Toby you know you're getting cheap food,The price of the roast dinner is over priced for what you get. The only edible thing on the plate was the Yorkshire pudding. The table was sticky and we asked for them to clean it. We wiped it dry with a napkin, When we looked at the napkin it was black after we dried the table. The only time the person serving us came to the table more than once was for payment. Then she was very good at coming back, The place was not busy so we couldn't understand why we waited so long to get our food. We were offered the dessert menu. When we asked if the desserts were as good as the mains, She replied yes. . So we said we would give it a miss then, We left hungry and disappointed

Love eating here, the food is great & for the most part the staff are brilliant. I only took one star off as I always feel like when we arrive, there is never anyone about to show us to our table. We always have to wait 10 mins. Also, they always seem to be out of most white wines. They never have any Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand).

I love this place, staff so friendly, especially Elissa, great atmosphere and food. I just wish there was more staff on, they get run off their feet when it's busy.

Came in for lunch and had a really great time, staff were friendly and welcoming. I had a smothered chicken and a side of garlic bread with a refreshing glass of coke to go with, i definitely reccomend and will be coming again

What a disappointment firstly we booked a table when we were shown to it it was a tight squeeze that you could not pull your chair out to sit as it was in the room with a party. They moved us to a different table eventually. We ordered our food 2 hunters type chicken and a gluten free chicken burger. When it was put in front of us the gluten free chicken burger was a patched up stale bread roll with hardly any chicken on it and we had roasted baby potatoes that were not roasted if they were they had been put into the microwave to heat up, that was it no garnish no salad or anything else on the plate. My partner cut into it and it was cold and sent it back and said don’t bother with anything else. Our hunters type chicken was hot but instead of how we have had it there on many occasions it was a chicken thigh looking like it had broken up and the bbq sauce was so sickly sweet that I couldn’t eat it but the other person in the party ate hers even though it was awful because they were hungry. WHAT has happened to this pub we have recommended so many people because it was always lovely it looks like they are cutting corners and charging more. Unfortunately this has put us off and will no longer be visiting it again. What a shame to have gone downhill like that.

Having been coming to this pub for a number of years, always was very good food, good value for money. When we came last night it was absolutely awful, I’m celiac and my meal was a joke, I ordered the chicken breast burger, the bun was disgusting all falling apart and stale, the chicken was nowhere near a breast of chicken, a sparrow maybe.,no cheese , no bacon and the roasted new potatoes were cold and barely cooked which was an extra £2 The other two members of my family had BBQ chicken breast hunters type yet agin not a Breast of chicken more like strips? The BBQ sauce was so sweet it did spoil the whole dish All in all very poor for the amount of money. Won’t be returning EVER.

Myself and my family came for dinner our waitress Alyssa was amazing, she took the time to stand and speak to us and answer any questions we had despite how busy it was. The food was lovely definitely recommend the pork belly.

Food lovely as always. Great selection of non alcoholic beers and service was great from Molly. Crème bulee French toast is a must.

Went in yesterday with my family for the 1st time. We were in the area and ( 2 adults and 2 children) wanted to eat. We came at 5pm, and we were greated by a nice lady, although the restaurant was almost empty, we were told that all tables are booked and they only have spces in the pub. We ordered at the bar, and meanwhile the food came, there were no cutleries on the table so for the first few minutes I was eating my squid with my hands. For my daughter instead baked beans, they came with pees, although when mentioned it, they changed it. No napkins were provided and table was sticky as a blue tag ( although it was cleaned before by the waiter ) I ordered for starters, fried squid, which was socked in oil, and even so, it was not cooked properly. We than had to wait 40 min for the mains to arrive, and meanwhile we were hungry we thought the wait will be worth it, however the food was appalling and probably the worst place I've ever dined in. The signature burger was horrible, and the meat being extremely low quality and even the lettuce in the burger were bootom cutts which normally you through them in the bin, not in a burger. My wife had double chicken which was rock solid, rice had no taste other than the chimen, and the fried chicken felt old and oily. If you wish to eat outside than Stay away from this place, you better to anywhere else. If you're in just for a drink than OK. I'll never ever return to this place. Waste of money and honestly I do not know how are they allowed to serve such a horrible food. When I got home I had a stomach pain from the burger and I had to have a shot of whiskey to drag my stomach to make sure I'm not going to vomit.

Met a friend for a drink as had never been. Lovely place! Although our attention was on a couple of puppies in the bar, it was a nice evening. Obviously I meant Dogs... 😉 So, Dog friendly too 🙏🏻

We have yet to have a bad experience in this place, the staff have always been happy and friendly. And the food has been amazing everytime. Seriously wether it's lunch or dinner I highly recommend this pub

Lovely Friday night dinner tonight. Cosy atmosphere, fun and friendly service from Alyssa, and piping hot, tasty food (the steak and ale pie, and toad in the hole being particular favourites!). Great value too, especially with a Gourmet Society card 👍🏻

Nice place friendly staff . So firstly I cook.... I make freshly cooked food from good ingredients.. so I prob should not go to a place like this but it's close to my parents and we wanted a bite to eat for his birthday. Frankly we need to change then name from chief and brewer to .. brewer.. no chiefing going on here.. lots of microwaved veg... ( please if you're gonna use a microwave... and don't!!! Use a pan of hot water!!!! Add water to the veg.. a small amount and cover and steam the veg this won't dry it like the surface of Mars!!) . A steak pie eith tiny poor quality meat! When I asked if my food had been I a microwave I was told yes because of an equipment malfunction.. well I litrally don't believe this.. I bet my boots if I went there in two weeks be same story ...tut tut.. try harder. I was just in norfolk... Hingham.. white heart.. some of tge most amazing food I ever had and as it goes same sort of price... this is just a poor show...

Taken an hour detour to come here today and unfortunately the food was not good and was too highly priced for what it was worth. The sauces were very watered down and the gravy (despite costing an additional £2) was water thin and had lumps of granules in. Absolutely no faults with the wait staff at all, however, they were lovely. Quite disappointed.

Popped out for an impromptu midweek meal using a 2 meals for £20 voucher we recently received. Great value with the food freshly cooked by Connor and friendly efficient service by Molly. One of our favourite pubs for a meal out and rarely disappointed.

Arriving just before 7pm we asked for a table for 6. With no welcome or smile it took ages before two staff members deigned to seat us. Or rather, pointed vaguely in the general direction. We asked for two more chairs and were told by Rude Woman…” you’ll have to find them yourself but DON’T take them from those two tables..” (again, waved in general direction) No direction or help, no menus offered, I had to collect. I asked why it was such bad service and was told “well, it’s Friday night”…..!!!! My suggestion would be more staff! If they expect a busy Friday night, why have one (very slow) chap taking drink and food orders at the bar. We ordered and (ages later) TWO items were served when we had almost finished eating. So, useless to us. I said I wouldn’t be paying for the very late items to the same surly, miserable woman who felt it was an inconvenience that we requested a table for six adults at 7pm. She ignored me but took the late food away. Paying 30 minutes later, the items were on the bill. I got one removed. All things considered, an awful experience, rude and unprofessional staff and surly woman and the dirty looking, long haired chap really did ruin a last minute family supper, after a day of grief and upset. YOLB, dreadful, will NOT recommend and the rude couple ‘front of house’ should really attend customer service training. £200 for zero service, incomplete food delivery and we basically did everything ourselves. Huge disappointment.

This pub is great, the food is really nice and it's so good to have it in such close walking distance from my house. Reasonably priced and plenty of room

Molly, our server, was friendly and extremely helpful and understanding. Food was good (although one of the burgers was not the one ordered but we kept it to avoid waiting for the correct one to be cooked) . Service was a little slow to begin with (perhaps due to a lack of staff) but once orders were placed all was good. Two of the beers were not available which was a little disappointing.

Visited this evening for an anniversary meal. The food was amazing, lovely place. Our waitress Maddie was fab, very friendly, happy and helpful. Will definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Went for lunch and had the slow cooked steak and ale pie. Really large pie but only about half full with the filling. It might be better smaller/fuller. Very tasty though. Service very good and friendly and happy to let me try one of the beers before buying

A beautiful old Pub, the building is fabulous. We visited for lunch The real Ale was cloudy, I spoke to staff about it, the Manager when referred to by the staff told me it was fresh on this morning. I said it was cloudy, she again repeated it was fresh on this morning, she couldn't quite grasp that despite it being fresh on, it was cloudy and it wasn't acceptable. I had a replacement ale that again was cloudy, but not as bad as the first. I had glazed pork chop, it was over done and the bubble and squeak was questionable. The table my wife and I sat at had a sticky surface. It was clean, but sticky to the touch. Despite the building being a most gorgeous one, we won't be returning, which is a shame as the building and décor promise better.

Lunch for 2 on a Thursday. Food was really delicious and served promptly. A good selection Menu and we ate from their traditional 'pub grub' options, an excellent tender lamb shank presented as a twist on Shepherds Pie. Our waitress was Lucy and nothing was too much trouble, everything with a smile and a happy chat. Best pub lunch experience in a long time. A reasonable wine selection and even a cookie with your coffee.

Really like the Ye olde Learthern bottle. It's a classic Wokingham pub that does very good food and is super cosy inside especially on winter days. Love the arm chairs. If you are passing through, i thoroughly recommend stopping and enjoying the food and drinks here

Last minute late Sunday lunch at Leathern today and was excellent. Superb grub and excellent service from Rachel (thanks for the dessert recommendation!). Recommended.

Been coming to this pub for years and it has always been really good. Julia is our favourite waitress. So kind and attentive. It seems really important to Julia that everything is perfect!

I came down here from the North East with a group of friends on a trip. We were recommended the Specials menu and it was excellent. Good food and atmosphere!

A lovely dinner with my partner and our puppy this evening, the food was delicious and hot!! Both drinks and food served in great time by Amy and Holly, we will definitely be returning soon!! Thank you for a fabulous meal!

Great service. The food has a good selection and well prepared and tasty. There are a lot of stairs inside and the disabled friendly entrance is hidden from the car park.

Nice pub, good food, but I DON'T LIKE the idea of CARD ONLY payments. It should be a persons choice whether they pay cash or card. It's a Dystopian feeling of having no choice. Sorry but I won't go again, unless they change this.

Booked for a party of Twelve, for a 40th birthday, we had a lovely waitress called Rachel who we had very good service from. The food was just as good, it was all cooked how we liked it & hot we was asked many times if everything was ok, so we would defo recommend on the our experience today.🙂

We have had a great Sunday lunch here today. Three had the seven hour cooked rib of beef which they really enjoyed. All made really pleasant by our waitress Rachel.

Staff were great but they need more help as they didn’t have enough staff on for how many people were in here. The bar was busy and one man was trying to do drinks and food orders! The restaurant and outside was just a mess, with dirty plates and glasses. Such a shame as it is a lovely pub.

Went to celebrate our daughters graduation Despite the restaurant being quiet service was very slow & some meals weren’t as described as on the menu. Some puddings cold so overall very disappointed as we previously have had good service & food

Very disappointing went for a friends 80th birthday there were 5 of us we all ordered the smothered chicken the chicken was so tough we could not cut it called the waitress over and showed her how hard it was to cut we asked for some steak knives to see if that would help. Did not help much it had obviously been overcooked in the microwave 4 of us ate most of the meal but not much of the chicken we would have been there most of the afternoon trying to chew it one friend left all of her chicken as she just could not chew it. The waitress was a lovely girl though not her fault. She said she would take one of the meals off of the bill. 4 of us ordered ice cream which should have come with a chocolate chip cookie but we did not get the cookie called the waitress over she did not know it came with a cookie so looked on the menu and yes we should have had a cookie when she came back she said they did not have any cookies but did bring a few mini shortbreads out for us. Would not recommend this pub to anyone as we were very disappointed especially as it was for a friends birthday

We had Rachel as our server, and she was brilliant! With two SEN children, who tend to struggle focusing on choosing their food, and want to talk about their special interests - a lot- Rachel was patient and engaging. Even though it was a busy Saturday night, she took time to engage with them both, and make sure the order was right. A great, welcoming atmosphere.

Had a nice meal today, an item was missing from our meal and Maddy our friendly waitress was very apologetic and rectified the matter. Thanks Maddy :)

Went for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Food was excellent: good size portions, not too expensive and tasty. The service was attentive and friendly, with our waitress making a real effort with our rather irritated 2 year old. Would recommend.

I just wanted to leave a review as I took my 2 year old and myself here for a quick snack and drink. Immediately the staff were so lovely and accommodating. Iv never been anywhere and the staff immediately appear so personable and kind, and it wasn't just one person, it was every single staff member I saw. Such a lovely pub. Great food, mixed grill was spot on. Only criticism is that the didn’t listen to our request when they asked how we wanted our steak done. A medium and a medium rare both came out well done. Was a decent well done though

It was a nice evening trip to our local pub. The food and service were good, the beer was nice and cold - we had a relaxing evening.

Had a nice evening with family. All food arrived promptly. Service was excellent and helpful throughout. A good array of drinks to choose from and a decent pub menu with specials. I chose a nice steak and ale pie... It was lovely. Pricing of everything was aligned to quality pubs within the area and there was an expansive beer garden in a nice rural setting. A great option for lazy sunny afternoons with friends.

Very nice meals, one hake, and one salmon, plus delicious desserts, bakewell tart and rose pannecotta. Lucy was very pleasant and helpful. Plus some nice level head beer.

Went to Ye Olde Leathern Bottle for a Sunday lunch. The only saving grace of the whole experience was the quite pleasant food, so compliments to the chef. Service on the other hand was ungodly. We ordered drinks and food at the time of our arrival. Our soft drinks took 15 minutes and then our food took 55 minutes (It really wasn’t that busy). Initially we had the wrong drinks brought out, followed by the wrong food brought out and then once we finished our meal we waited for 20 minutes to get our plates taken/pay the bill. Eventually I gave up waiting and settled up at the bar, as after getting walked past by numerous waiting staff, numerous times my patience was wearing thin. I also expect the table next to us would probably also report a similar experience after hearing them kick off at the terrible service and inexcusable wait times. I have been coming to this pub for years as it is my local and the atmosphere has always been pleasant. This is now the third time I’ve had a horrible experience here and I will not be returning again.

Tables full of dirty glasses and plates Roast : Yorkshire dry like a crisp , vegetables hard and carrots had bad bits on . Hardly any gravy . Bad oil , onion rings greasy and tasted of old oil Will never return .

Had a great birthday meal with my family of 5. Service and food was fantastic and was able to use Tesco vouchers which helped with the bill.

Disappointed we come here on a regular basis and yesterday was the worse meals we have ever had, the sirloin steak was ordered medium it arrived rare and so tough completely put off the meal, the rib of beef had so much fat on the bone you had to look for the beef! Trio of roasts the beef I was unable to cut and the veg was not cooked properly again unable to cut all round this was a great disappointment 🙁

Great food and service from Maddy today, took care of all our needs and they were very engaging with our 2 children.

We visited last night for our Nans birthday!!! Incredibly disappointing!!! Took ages for our meals, which were then awful, tasteless and overcooked!!! Then waited for almost 45 minutes for our table to be cleared and order desserts, but we had to ask the staff as it seemed we were forgotten about!!!! The desserts were served when our table hadn't even been cleared properly from our mains, then to top it off there was 20 minutes between our sundaes being brought out and the final dessert of chocolate fondant!!! I'm not normally someone that gives negative feedback, as I normally see the positives, but last night I was shocked by how bad we were treated 😳

First time visiting this place, was recommend to me by a friend so went to visit and it didn’t disappoint! The food was exceptional and the service was amazing, we were served by a lovely girl called maddy, she was so welcoming and friendly never forgetting to smile, will definitely be coming back again soon !

Came here today for some dinner with my mum, and we both thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our meal. The food was piping hot and well flavoured, the service was quick and both servers Molly and Maddy were particularly attentive, bubbly and chatty. It was lovely to visit here today, we come often and enjoy most meals but this was by far one of my favourite visits just based on the attitude of the servers alone. Many thank yous to Maddy and Molly for being so great tonight! We enjoyed every second of it :)

I had a fantastic experience. The food was great, the woodland mushroom bourguignon Wellington was surprisingly delicious as I usually think restaurants miss the mark when it comes to vegan food, but this was definitely not the case. A special mention to our server Maddy, she was so helpful and an absolute delight.

We visited for Mother’s Day lunch. The food was outstanding with exceptional service from Maddy & Alyssa. A very welcoming atmosphere & environment for Sunday lunch. We will certainly visit again. It’s so nice to have a country styled pub up the road from Arborfield.

The service was non existent, we didn’t get offered the lunch menu as per the website, we arrived at 1.30pm and the lunch menu was available from 12noon to 4pm that’s miss selling. We arrived told we couldn’t sit in the restaurant, which was empty, and was told we can sit in the bar and will still get table service, that never happened we ordered at the bar drinks and food, we did this also for further drinks pudding and coffee. I wouldn’t recommend going for lunch, 2 of us for lunch and spent £70 for us to go to the bar and order and we cleared the table of our mains when the pudding came out. Never again we eat out a lot and there are amazing pubs that appreciate your business.

8 of us went for dinner and overall was good apart from one of our diner’s meal. They ordered off the Specials menu, Wild Boar sausages and mash - when it turned up we thought it was a kids meal. No veg, just a spoonful of Mash and 2 small sausages for £17.99! We mentioned this to it waitress who said others had given similar feedback. The mixed grill was £20 and Was huge - prob the best value of the meals we had.

Had a lovely Monday night meal, the lasagne was delicious and the service was fantastic, we had a lovely friendly waitress, I believe her name was Molly, nothing was too much trouble.

A lovely traditional pub and restaurant. The food is amazing, we couldn't fault anything. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. We had a large party of 10 people, everyone received a lovely hot meal, in good time, with great service and no long wait times even though the restaurant was fairly busy for a Monday night. Christmas was out first ever visit, this our second. Both times there was nothing we could fault about the food or service. We will definitely be back again soon........
