Lunch with the family.Food,service as good as ever.always a pleasure to go there.Full to bursting but staff maintained their cool.

It’s been sometime since I’ve visited. The service was very good and it was extremely busy at lunchtime. Menu has a good choice. We just had mains which were very tasty and served promptly and came to the table hot. The fish pie was delicious with a good amount of chunky fish. I was impressed. Will certainly return.

Very tasty good but portions were rather small. Pricing OK for Berkshire. Service was friendly though food took a little while to arrive

Great meal and the food was hot and well presented. It was packed to the gunnells with people, so the service was slower than usual. We had Raj who was great, she really looked after us, despite being frantically busy and she kept us informed. There wasn't a free table! Would go back at any opportunity and will ask for Raj again.

Came here with friends to have dinner as this pub is special to them, and I could see why, what a beautiful place, greeted with a very kind and warm welcome by staff, nice couple of drinks before they showed us to our table, ordered our dinner and it was with us in a few minutes, very hot, very fresh and very tasty, the service we received was the best I have seen in a while. We will %100 be returning.

We had a fabulous meal on Saturday. The portions sizes were good, plenty of options and really well presented. Our waiter was also charming and attentive. Great pub/restaurant with the food definitely several notches above pub grub. Can’t fault it.

We had a lovely meal served by really friendly & helpful staff. And spotlessly clean toilets!We will be back 👍

Had a family dinner, risotto and the soup for the starters looked really good, and feedback was very good….. i had the cauliflower wings from the nibbles section which was a bit disappointing and I should’ve gone for a starter as only 2 pounds more. Caulk wings were 4 florets of cauliflower, fried. Fish and chips was really good, pie was really good, but the Seabass could’ve had some extra vegetables to soak up the sauce. There are only two potatoes and then loads of sauce so the plate seemed unbalanced.

Nice place to meet up with friends for a meal. Food always good and service always with a smile. Good value for money.

Nice traditional foody pub with lots of tables. Menu is well constructed with exciting variety of dishes to select. Food is tasty and service efficient and friendly. Worth a visit if in the area and book on any popular dates.

Our mum was really looking forward to her Birthday lunch. Her 86th Birthday. When I made the booking I was sure to put this in the form. We had a nice meal but no one acknowledged that it was her birthday. She had a balloon tied to her chair so it was obvious. It was just such a shame. She would have loved to have been made a fuss of. I didn’t say anything at the time as I didn’t wish her to realise.

We had a very enjoyable lunch, five adults and two children. Very good menu with exceptionally wide choice which satisfied everyone including two picky children. An excellent and charming young waiter who was always on hand. Not much waiting for food despite the large number of diners. We are already planning our next visit.

We had a lovely lunch here. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious - I’d love to know how they made the batter so crispy - and the staff were all very polite and friendly. There are lots of gluten-free options and the Coeliac UK accreditation offers extra reassurance that it’s a safe place to eat for those (like me) with coeliac disease. We were asked about allergies in arrival and provided with a full allergen menu, and my dishes were brought out separately and noted to be gluten-free. It is a bit pricey, but we’ll definitely be visiting again!

Very good 'port in a storm ' so to speak! We had to abandon our plans and seek warmth, shelter and food, all of which you were able to provide in abundance, despite no booking on our part! Service and food were excellent. Nothing was too much, even when we requested the children's menu as one of our number could only manage small portions etc.

We were a family of 6, 2 children aged 7 and 9 and 4 adults. We all really enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent, very friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help you. We would absolutely come back and recommend.

Lunch was an 85th birthday celebration. The menu was excellent and the staff were wonderful; attentive but not obsequious! The slow cooked lamb shoulder was delicious and highly recommended. This is a medium priced restaurant but offers delicious meals at a reasonable price.

Encantador pub / restaurante local que tiene comidas caseras encantadoras y siempre tiene algo nuevo en el menú. El personal es siempre agradable y atento, si solo todos los lugares eran así. Cómodo ambiente cálido, ideal para todas las edades. Lo recomendaría.

Waited an hour for meal which came warm. Refused two and one left early. Manager refused to talk to his leaving poor waitress apologise. Won’t be going there again

Excellent place for afternoon lunch

Friendly staff, good sized portions of very tasty food, dog friendly and nice busy atmosphere. We've been many times before and have never been disappointed.

This place was quite splendid. No joke, one of the best pubs I’ve ever been to. Amazing atmosphere and if you want the best Long Island Ice Tea in Guildford, Rio is your guy. Rio gave the recommendation after my friend Tyler, who has special needs, asked for the best drink he could make. He certainly didn’t disappoint! We had nothing like before. 10/10 recommend, and if you do go, please give Rio a round of applause for the Long Island ice tea. You’ll know once you have it.

Although the service was good it was a little rushed. Food very average unfortunately. Fish finger sandwich particularly.

Stopped here on the off chance after a very stressful afternoon knew we would have a drink and maybe some food Wow the staff couldn't do enough from extra pitta for the dip no extra charge to serving very plentiful meals that are very good quality and I have had over 40 years experience The price was as low as a chef and brewer but everything was top class

Food was average; fishcakes were as dry as pencil shavings. Wholly unimpressed with the waiter coughing all over the birthday cake.

Great food with an awesome gluten free selection (best battered cod ever!) and perfect service from Angela. Always a delightful and delicious experience.

Our lady server was excellent and her experience And professionalism shone through.. Didn't catch her name but she used to work at Cozze. And should be commended as a great example to the team.Oh. And the food was excellent especially the squid. Could have eaten three times as much.

Visit this lovely spot many times. Nice staff, food and the service is great. Genuinely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Zero customer service skills. Had to go to the bar to order everything, arrogant boys think it's beneath them to do their job!? On confronting the manager, they are unbotherd and happy to have little boys running around that think it's funny to ignore customers. This place is terrible, bad vibes, bad energy!! AVOID

Stopped off here on the way back to Reading. Summers day, sat outside at the front of the pub, clean tables, beer was refreshing. Didn't have any food but the menu looked great.

Nice atmosphere, good service, lovely wine selection, and the beer is good as well.

Lovely back patio, do visit. We were served by a lovely waitress that actually was serving us before. Always a pleasure. Very good summer menu.

We went for Sunday lunch. we got seated right next to the hottest part of the pub (the kitchen area) good for my husband as he is a chef and wanted to see what they were doing but not for me. The starters were great crispy squid, but then the beef meal was ruined by someone choking at the table behind us and my daughter said he was sick, putting me right off the food. thankfully someone opened some windows by then and a cool breeze lifted the air.

The food was delicious and the place is very nice.

Family lunch following a bereavement.All feeling emotional but perked up with our excellent Sunday lunch.Visited again a few days later and enjoyed our normal menu Excellent service on both occasions and we will be more than happy to return.

What a shame gone down hill . Great service .. Been many time before . Portion sizes are at least half what it used to been Where's the Pate???? . We used to advise people to go there .. Embarrassing taking people last night ..Having said that could not fault the service ...

Dreadful service - only got wine after asking twice and we were half way through our dinner. Very average food. Won’t be hurrying back any time soon.

Made us feel very welcome and a lovely meal. Our first visit but we will be back. The fish pie was a treat and the lemon and raspberry tart was excellent.

Great roasts, yummy vegan options too! Service was excellent.. seems a shame that service charge isn't added to the bill though? We of course tipped but service charge in general would give other customers a nudge in the direction of tipping.

Really nice meal here yesterday. The staff were excellent, the food was good and there were games that made the experience for the older toddlers more fun. There is a children’s menu though I couldn’t see it on the website. Thank you from the adults outnumbered by toddlers!

Lovely food. First time for lunch and the steak sandwich didn’t disappoint.

This place is consistently good. Good beer and wine, interesting menu and helpful staff. It's just excellent at being what it is, a favourite with locals for always doing what is expected.

We popped in for a Saturday lunch. They were fairly quiet, providing great service and the food was well prepared. Overall, a good experience.

The servers were all friendly and attentive. The food was really good. Lovely pub.

It was a great day for a lunch and we asked to sit outside in the garden. The A4 runs about 50ft away but the road noise was not intrusive. The food was great. I had a pie and mash. The pie was massive, much bigger than you would expect at a pub. It was presented beautifully. The ale was excellent too.

Most enjoyable meal, very clean environment and extremely polite well spoken and attentive staff. No noisy children to contend with -absolute bonus !! Lovely to be able to eat with my family and hear what was being said without having to raise voices. This has to be my favourite place at this time.

Very welcoming, we had drinks at the bar then sat at the table to eat a first class meal. We were able to talk with each other, no need to raise voices. Not crammed next to other tables and just the right level of background noise. We had a really lovely time. I don't live close enough to make it my local, but I hope those that do, realise what a gem it is. I'll be there again soon.

This restaurant has recently had a makeover and looks very smart. There is ample parking although the disabled spaces are located behind a wall that you have to walk around making a longer distance to negotiate. Plenty of tables inside and indeed it was packed when we went so very popular. A nice touch when you enter is a supply of reading glasses in case you forget yours. We had the Sunday roast which has lots of meat but a bit skimpy on the veg. Extra gravy was given with a smile when requested. Prices are comparable to other outlets. I would go there again.

Excellent food, superb creme Brule, wonderful chocolates, great Sushi, one of the best goat cheese and beetroot salads I've ever had!

It's our local pub and is always busy and friendly. Dog friendly and nice helpful staff. Food is always nice 🙂 Lovely roast dinners. You can relax in there and enjoy family and friend time

Popped out for dinner. I've been past many times and never went in until last night. I been missing out! Nice friendly staff enthusiastic greeting. The menu was a good menu, so a return visit is needed, I think. We had scallops to start.... It's REALLY good , great size and well cooked..... then the burger and truffle fries.... again really nice, I would like the burger a bit more juicy, but it was good. The ladies had fish and chips, this was also a great meal. Good size well cooked. The sweets are good especially the mini ones with a hot drink. Coffee was good as well. The place again well decorated with a homely feel. Cleanliness 10/10 Service 9/10 Quality of ingredients 10/10 Food cooking 10/10 Toilet very good! 10/10 Somewhere to definitely visit again.

The Horse and Groom has just got it right. The food was well prepared, very tasty and of excellent quality. Service friendly, attentive and helpful and the atmosphere relaxed and warm. Stayed nearby for a few days visiting family and dropped in here on a Friday evening. Highly recommended.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch. The chef and the kitchen staff are excellent. I had very tender roast beef and a huge Yorkshire pudding. The meal was cooked to perfection. Lovely vegetables. The waiters were very attentive and there was a lovely cosy atmosphere. Truly to be recommended.

Looking for somewhere to eat en-route to Reading and found the perfect spot! Lovely looking pub and the inside was decorated thoughtfully. Very spacious but cozy at the same time. Staff were all wonderful and the food was simply amazing! Definitely returning back here again.

Good range of food on the menu. Especially like the coffee and small dessert option.

Looking at other reviews our experience may not be typical. 2 of us had the cod and chips which consisted of very thick batter and not much cod. Chips a bit undercooked. The other two in our group enjoyed their food. Lots of young staff around but not very attentive.

We must have driven past the Horse and Groom hundreds of times without giving it a second look, dismissing it as not to our liking, being on the busy A4 road. Friends invited us there and we were very surprised to discover it to be much larger inside with a traditional oak beam ambiance and it was very busy, almost full. Once inside, the busy A4 is quickly forgotten. Also surprising was the excellent quality of the food and great beer. It doesn't appear to be part of a chain and is better for it. It's now on our list for regular visits and can fully recommend it.
