Just revisited the Heron for lunch, always a lovely quiet atmosphere, the food as usual was excellent, served by friendly staff.

Fabulous roast dinner to celebrate mum's 82nd birthday. We had a lovely quiet corner as requested, and dietary requirements were catered for without a problem. Kerry, our waitress, was great .

Lovely pub/restaurant next to a ford (no surprises there!) Plenty of parking, ambient music, friendly staff, delicious food, open fire. What is there not to like? A large walk-in group arrived just before us (we had pre-booked) so a slightly longer wait for our food than we expected but we were given some complimentary nuts to keep us going and, when the food did arrive, it was definitely worth the wait!

Never disappointed. This is a semi regular pub for us to visit as we can go for a nice dog walk first and build up an appetite. The food has never disappointed, quality and portion size are good and the specials menu changes regularly. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Zero to complain about

This is a very very nice place. The food is fantastic, and there is real ale on tap (kept very well, by the way. Not overly expensive. Attentive table service. Highly recommended.

Stunning pub, warm friendly and great food.

I went with a group of 18 friends on a Friday evening. The new menu was great and the live entertainment was fantastic. The staff were very attentive so we will definitely be returning to this venue and would highly recommend it.

We had a cracking family get together for Sunday lunch. Lovely food a real “ service with a smile”.

Very poor overall. I had roast lamb- the lamb was awful very fatty and hardly any of it. They forgot to serve my Husband's main and so he had to wait for this to cook. The children's portions at £7.50 are tiny. The cauliflower cheese was lovely. Also very expensive. We will not be returning.

A very large open pub with a similarly large car park. The service was lovely, friendly and informal. I enjoyed my double cheeseburger with fries although they could have done with being hotter. Everybody on our table had very generous portions of a variety of dishes. A wide variety of delicious desserts to choose from. Overall good value.

I visited on a Sunday. Great attentive service. I had roast pork, with crisp crackling and fresh veg, extra gravy was given without having to ask. My elderly mother enjoyed the fish cakes. Speedy cheerful service throughout, thanks :)

First visit and most impressed. Plenty of car parking spaces, a good menu & friendly efficient staff. Will definitely go back there.

The HOTF is in a great location and on a sunny day has a fab outdoor area to enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Unfortunately for me I found the food very underwhelming and slightly overpriced for what feels like microwaved pub grub. The interior is inviting and cosy and the facilities are very clean. The pub is also dog friendly and the general vibe is very laid back and relaxed.

An excellent meal with superb service from Steve and the young lady that also assisted . Only disappointment was that we couldn’t sit outside due to being a party of 10.

I came to the heron on the ford on Sunday the 1st September and it was honestly the worst dinner iv ever had. It was busy and we ordered a roast dinner. We paid 50 pound for it and when it came there was hardly anything on the plate, now I don’t know if they were running out of food because of how busy it was but that’s not the point. You shouldn’t take someone’s order if you don’t have anything left. It was also a 45 minute wait. I didn’t like it the first time I came but I gave in and decided to go for the roast, Worst experience I will not be eating here again it’s disgusting how they charge you that much for this. The service is awful there miserable, unfriendly And make you feel unwelcome

Always love the food and service here

Visited bank holiday Monday after a walk around the local area. We were very well looked after and the waitress even offered to keep my meal warm as I was feeding my son on a nearby sofa when our food came. Lovely friendly atmosphere, the food was fab and beer well looked after. Will definitely be back!

The food here is phenomenal! The chicken burger is so tasty it’s unreal. Even the bun is heavenly with thick pretzel-like dough- I wish I knew where they get them from 😊 slightly expensive but worth the price

This is a local pub to me and we’ve not had the best service in the past. We thought we would give it another try today. I’m afraid we won’t be back. Staff are so unwelcoming. You almost feel like it’s an inconvenience for you wanting to order food and for them to serve you. It’s such an easy thing to get right especially with so much competition in the area. The starter nachos were a tiny tiny portion. Really not good value at all. Please offer your staff some training in customer service. A friendly smile goes a long way……

My friend and I had lunchlast week. We had excellent service, the food and the beer were excellent, and we loved the ambiance of the bar.

Great menu and the food was excellent. Service very helpful professional and friendly. Lovely garden with a play area which my 7yo nephew liked.

Food can be a little slow on some visits but always absolutely lovely servers and who acknowledge that, nice atmosphere and the food is really tasty.

Met up with a walking group for lunch. Decided to have a selection of starters as opposed to a main course. They were all very good but the saddle of sole was outstanding. Well done to all concerned with the preparation and delivery of the food.

Always a pleasure to go there, although there was a mixup on the menus presented to us, which meant we didn't get part of a dish we ordered.

Delighted to be taken to this pub, close to where friends live. What a find! The location is memorable with the ford so close, there was plenty of parking, the food (for a party of eight) was considered excellent. Congratulations to Steve for some excellent service, all with a smile; and the chef/proprietor is to be congratulated.

It may have been an unusually bad night for Chef, but his burger meat was dry and tasteless. I couldn't eat it.

Unfortunately a nice place near the ford/ river with a good outdoor area but the service is awfully slow, and we would told over an hour wait for food at dinner time?! You can’t run an establishment that way if your kitchen can’t cope with that many orders coming in. You may as well close it down if that’s the case as you’ll lose customers. Or not serve food and just serve drinks. So not worth making the effort to come here, I don’t recommend it. Food was pretty average too, and they also ran out of quite a few menu items too.

An old pub that was voted up by a new owner 5-6 years ago. Good food and good service when we had lunch here. Also outdoor seating.

Nice location, although slightly off the main routes. The mentioned ford is rarely passable confidently bit the pub is worth visiting. It is usually busy at the weekends for a reason. If walking the ourh of the Thames, it is not a huge detour and you can take in Charvil rather than a bit of the Thames that offers few views. Well worth a stop.

Nice place but think they are trying to do too much on the menu and the quality has therefore gone down slightly. A bit of side salad with my burger and chips would have been welcome.

Food portions were small for the price and the piped music was intrusive and the volume could not be adjusted.

We really enjoyed our meal at The Heron on the Ford on Tuesday, our friend was visiting for the first time and was very impressed by the service and the presentation of the neals. A varied menu with clearly marked Gluten Free options. T

Terrible atmosphere because of warring barking dogs. This place is advertised as a dog friendly pub but there wasn't a friendly dog in there. The barking was deafening at times. The whole bar smelled of wet dog...not pleasant when trying to have a quiet Sunday roast. Waitresses were fantastic, prompt service with a smile but patrons with dogs need to be more aware of the impact their pets have on other people. Not sure they should even be where food is being served. Mine were able to be left! Is this an owner issue? I think so.

So sad I've been there a few times in the past as they had a proper chef that serves original dishes, a bit pricey but worth it. Now they are serving the same old stuff you find in most pubs it's a nice place but not worth the trek. Sutch a shame.

Very much enjoyed an impromptu early evening meal here. The menu is good, but the choice of ‘specials’ is excellent. We enjoyed the braised beef with veg, which was superb and tasty. The beef was so tender, it melted in the mouth. Lovely ambience, lovely setting, quick and efficient service. The next time our tastebuds need a service we will return here!

Feel a bit conflicted writing this as most visits have been good. Today less so, unfortunately. Slow to receive food (not overly busy for a Saturday night) and food was mediocre. Game lasagna (£22) was overcooked and dry, and served with a paltry salad. My wife's confit duck was a bit better but also overcooked. Nearly £13 for a large glass of wine also a kick in the teeth! Shame as other visits have been better. Hopefully this was a one-off

Popped in for a pint and lunch this weekend and really enjoyed it. Good selection of beers and lunch menu was great, I had the fish finger wrap, delicious.

Just discovered this lovely pub just 2 miles from home! The food was great, the staff were really lovely and attentive and they are dog friendly. Just one request - please do a quiz night! I love a good quiz!

Having been here several times and never disappointed, this was a rude shock. We ordered hake with polenta and beetroot nonsense and what came out was a fun sized piece of fish, a chunk of beetroot and a ‘slice’ of baked polenta. I’m so angry with myself that I didn’t send it back. It tasted nice enough but for £20 it’s a joke. When they have corn fed celeriac on the menu you can tell when they’re now trying to be something they’re not. It’s left a bad taste tbh.

Premium prices should have indicated premium food quality, however the sunday roast beef was very disappointing. Fatty pieces of beef. The roast potatoes were hard and dry inside and the outside was very tough and took lots of effort to cut. Apple and rhubarb crumble was good.

We have regular lunches at The Heron with different friends. We have eaten a variety of meals which have consistently been well cooked and enjoyable. In November, another friend with mobility issues was very well looked after. All 4 of us had a very nicely cooked meal and will return . This was an evening meal on March 12th with my son. We both much enjoyed the ribeye steaks with nicely cooked dauphinois potatoes and other veg

We thought the music was a bit loud and asked for it to be turned down, to be told they can't do that. The moved us instead away from the speakers however, that meant we were in the darkest corner of the pub and even my 4year old said it was too dark. We asked for his kids burger to come plain, it came drenched in burger sauce. The starters were nice, only other complaint was the fish special was a bit pricey for the portion size.

Up-market foody pub with a nice atmosphere balanced between patrons and restaurant guests - with both smartly separated from each other both inside and outside. Food is always very tasty, with both specials and regular menu having a large choice of dishes to suit all tastes. Menu has many more game options than most other restaurants and pubs, which is interesting. But lots of options for all different tastes.

We had a table of 10. We were told when we booked we had the table from 12 to 2.30pm, which was no problem, however to be constantly reminded when we arrived, four times, was a bit much. We left at 2.10pm. Requested a high chair, which was not at the table.we had to organize. Your fish is always good, however your roast meat not great Cauliflower lovely. Children's playground sealed up.

This is our favourite local pub. There is a good mix of options on the menu. The staff are friendly and attentive but don’t rush you. A lovely relaxing evening every time we visit.
