good food nicely prepared and well presented. I've enjoyed their chilli-con-carne twice before, both times spiced up to hot. this evening I had sirloin with a jacket potato. the steak arrived on a sizzler atop a bed of fried peppers, onions & mushrooms and the potatoe arrived with plenty of butter, a comprehensive salad topped with balsamic vinegar and half a grilled tomato. my daughter enjoyed their regular chilli. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu.

Not possible to mark the experience any lower. Boris continues to lower the bar. Louise is excellent but it must be like pushing an elephant up the stairs. The building is falling into disrepair with drainage issues. The landlord and Shepherd Neame clearly don't care! Don't forget to wrap up warm it's chilly Things are on the up. They are advertising for a new tenant 🥳 🤞🏻they find someone apparently you are made to feel about as welcome as a bacon sandwich at a bah mitzvah

Rather quiet when we went,but it was a saturday and awful weather,but the food was delicious.

We visited the pub at the last minute having found it on line, the exterior of the pub is a little tired but does not reflect the food which we all really enjoyed. 3 adults and 4 children from aged 4 to 13. The food was freshly made, big portions and well worth a visit to support a local pub where the owner puts effort in to the menu and food quality food. Not part of a chain.

Went in for dinner, menu wasn't great, so we opted for cheesy chips, bar was empty and smelt, so sat outside, wait was around 40 mins, beer garden is on a slope and tables a little rickety. Cheesy chips were plentiful and warm, not very tasty though. Sorry to give such a poor review, but it's a nice looking pub and should do better.

We visited the pub as a group of 16 (including 4 kids). The lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming - such a rarity to have such great customer service. Food was enjoyed by everyone - the portions are big! Nice little play area outside for the kids and some toys inside the pub too. You order food and drinks at the bar, and that worked perfectly for us - no headache of splitting the bill at the end. Would recommend and definitely return.

Such a lovely place, great friendly staff, delicious food, and such a nice environment. Was attending the car boot nearby and found this gem as it was close by. It wasn't trying to be something it is not but as a package is a lovely place. There was a christening party here so it was busy and my family were still looked after so well by the staff. The food was some of the best i've eaten anywhere, nice concise menu, perfect kids menu, and a great environment to relax enjoying it in. We had such a good time afterwards we even looked at house prices nearby and discussed the prospect as it was lovely. I'd definitely recommend visiting and see what you think if you are in the area.

Do not be put off by the no frills decor - the food is fabulous and the service always great! Highly recommend!

Now the evenings are drawing out again its great to be able to walk to The Bull with our dog Heston and always have a great value meal (highly recommend the homemade pizza) and get a good beer and wine at a great price. With everyone saving their pennies these days The Bull represents a very varied food selection at great prices. Many thanks to Boris and his Team.

I have been visiting this pub mostly for food over the last year as it's been delicious. Pizza on homemade pesto sauce is my favourite dish. Very good atmosphere and friendly staff and landlord. Always have great time at Bull at Riseley.

A diabolical pub. I was the only customer in a freezing cold pub, apart from the landlord. Most draught beers unavailable. Did he dispense bonhomie to me? Did he hell, just carried on playing with his Rubik’s cube, and didn’t notice I’d even gone. I think the owners deliberately running into the ground. They just want the real estate that lies under it, sad to see. Expect to see a luxury house on here in the very near future.

The food wasn’t overly brilliant. The staff wasn’t friendly sounded like the waitress didn’t want us there and miserable. Dogs in the pub was just let to walk round freely.

Disgusting! Drove from Basigstoke to meet friend from Wokingham...had table booked for 12.30...building all locked up and no lights/sign of life, or any notices to say why it was closed!Telephone number "temporarilyy unavailable"!!! Drove to Longbridge Mill where we had a lovely meal!

Was in the area for a competition and called in for dinner, was excellent food and good value.

Walked in around 3.15pm looking for food,pub was very quiet but we were made to feel welcome and told we could sit anywhere, menu was good and included a Pizza menu. We both had lasagne and a side order chips. Presented beautifully, was hot and very tasty, we particularily liked the garlic bread. Would recommend.

Cracking pub, just a little quiet.

Our visit started well with a welcome from the bar person. We ordered a shared starter of whitebait, mains of chicken burrito and fish and chips. All food was served hot and the whitebait and burrito delicious. The fish started off well but tasted musty at one end, which was odd and so left. At 8:45 the nice atmosphere was destroyed by children shouting at each other. We (6 of us at that time) all said what on earth is going on as we thought kids had just run into the pub for fun. It then became clear that two fathers with 5/6 small children were going to eat and drink. They appeared to have no control over their children and we noticed other customers were being disturbed over their presence. It became so bad we left and won’t be visiting The Bull due to the food and their crèche facilities on a Friday late evening again.

Great service, really nice food and friendly vibe. My children love the food here and they are really fussy. I would definitely recommend 👌

Pretty bad. We were the only guests. The food was okay but the experience was ruined by the landlady's family, who camped in the room we were eating in, shouting to other family members, talking loudly on the phone, with a grandson who was either playing with very loud toys they'd given him or standing watching us eat.

Was riding the king Alfred’s way and found myself staying at the campsite and headed here for dinner. Super friendly staff and the food was exactly what I needed, I’m a bit of a lump and I struggled to finish the chicken burger it was huge! So tasty and also I had the best garlic bread I’ve ever had.

Lovely quiet place in the village of riseley. Excellent hunters chicken - they didn't scrimp on the cheese! Could have stayed there all afternoon.

We had the most delicious Cajun chicken burrito on a lunchtime visit. The pub's lovely with friendly staff but suffering as so many are from a lack of customers. So sad. We sat in the pub garden in the sunshine so atmosphere was not a problem. The home made lasagna was equally delicious according to my wife. I hope the sunshine brings out more diners. I'm sure they'll be well pleased.

Lovely pub, and I have to admit I have never met a barmaid, so polite as I did in here, we will definitely pop in again.

For what this pub is, their wine prices are FAR too high. And looking at the exact wines they sell and the pub itself, neither justify the prices. If I'm going to pay those prices, there are far better pubs that either match or beat those prices and the pubs are far better !!

Booked well in advance but table was not set up when we arrived. Had to wait while our table was assembled. Other people had to be moved so that it could be set up. No apology or explanation given. Food took a while to come but was ok, except served on cold plates and the sides arrived after the meal had been finished! Place a bit tired and had to ask lights to be put on in ladies, again no apology! Lots of locals, very noisy and clearly not enough staff. Disappointed as picked location for family coming from Reading and Basingstoke. Staff not particularly friendly and no thanks or good bye as we left. Quite uncomfortable experience. Would not return or recommend.

The pub was cold when we got there around 12.30 pm. The staff very friendly, and prompt service, but our roast dinners were served up on cold plates which in a cold room became cold very quickly. The food was good, good choices and puds tooooo

Amazing service every time I'm there we order drinks when we go in then choose what we want (I suggest bacon and cheese potato skins for starters and the breaded chicken burger for main) and the starters take 10 mins with the mains taking a further 15 mins after that, the staff are super friendly and don't make a fuss about anything, food is better than some restaurants I've been to. Only real downsides are old decor, slightly more expensive food than other places (it is amazing food though) and I feel that staff are over run as the cook is the owner and its normally the barmaid as a waitress aswell (there is only 1 barmaid at a time I believe 2 are highered there)

Spectacular quiet local pub to reflect on one’s day with the days acquaintances. A selection of the finest pizza’s far beyond anything from the chain giant pizza establishments or even the local Italian.

The first pints that were poured was off so they changed them from a different pump which was fine, there was no fuss the service OK

We stopped whilst passing by, food all day was the lure as we missed lunch. As a party of four we all ordered something completely different. From roast to pizza and it was top notch. Friendly staff and good food with beer can't ask for more.

First time I have seen my Irish husband send back a Guniness for being undrinkable. Play area was very dirty, dusty and broken. Garden furniture was broken. Redeemed a star as staff were lovely and replaced my husbands drink without any fuss with two bottles of beer.

Friendly bar service with sensible drinks prices. Surprisingly there was only one lady running the bar and taking food orders, and as we discovered a little later, there was only one cook in the kitchen!!! Regrettably this meant that our food took over an hour to get to the table! When it did finally arrive it was better than the average pub meal - decent size portions, nice chips and the food was hot. As usual with pub food each plate came with the obligatory salad garnish. Not really necessary. There's a good selection of dishes on the menu but as always relatively few vegetarian options. More staff would improve the experience, but we would definitely go back again.

But the wine is way overpriced. The choice I was given did not include any bottles of white wine under £20. The pub itself and what it gives, simply does not equate to wine over £20.

A very cozy place. Friendly owners and delicious food. First, there was a delicious waffle for free - shrimps, mushrooms and breaded brie cheese served on green vegetables. Later on, amazing pizza - lots of choice. Low prices. I really recommend

A good rural location, nice pub food, good service from a solitary female who was barmaid and waitress all in one. She was polite and helpful and very knowledge indeed. The drinks and food were of good value one Sunday afternoon lunch time. The pub decor was in a bit of rundown state and could do with a redecoration and repaint all round! There was damp and water ingress in the old roof. The afternoon was cold and wet but the radiators were not turned on and we had to have lunch with our jackets on!

food was good , bartender was nice but the local regulars are disrespectful, an will try to disrespect you without you knowing it !!!

Great place to meet a friend and get back into the motorway. Staff seemed friendly. Little play park at the back. Seats at the front on a level ground if accessibility is an issue. Table we were at one of the seats was broken, so could do with a little repair here and there.

Booked a meal for a birthday celebration for 12.30. Turned up at 12.20 ish so we could have a drink beforehand only to find the pub completely shut up, no lights on and nobody around. VERY disappointed so drove away to find somewhere else. Thought I might try phoning and was very surprised when someone answered. He had only just turned up!! Needless to say we cancelled as we had already driven quite away on.

Great location and good for outside seating. Shame there wasn't any kind of IPA on draft when we visited

Really nicely looked after, service was great, we all enjoyed our food and the beer was lovely. Classic pub grub which was well prepared and loads of choice from the main menu, kids and separate pizza menu too. Service was superb, we were never left thirsty. Dog friendly too. Would happily return, thanks for a great evening.

This is our local pub, their pizzas and calzone (stromboli) are AMAZING!!! It's now our weekly order made to collect within 20-30minutes 😁 always friendly service and lovely people.

Staying locally, so came into the pub for a meal. I had steak and my wife had the cajun chicken. Both were delicious. So much so that a couple of nights later we got a takeaway pizza from there too. Also gave me an excuse for a sneaky pint while I waited. 😉 Again the food was lovely! If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely return!

Last week my wife and I decided to go to the pub for the first time since lockdown. We had a drink and all was ok. This week we went back. The landlord clearly saw us but was more interested in turning on the tv. We were totally ignored. This pub needs all the help it can get but we won’t be returning

Stopped here for dinner while cycling the King Alfred’s Way with friends. Great welcome, lovely food, friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended- proper pub.

Lovely place, good food for the most part.. Only complaint was with the fish. We had beer battered cod and beer battered halloumi, both of which were very soggy and gooey.

We were visiting family from our caravan stay at Wellington country Park, The Bull is walking distance from the site so we booked a table and met a friend there.The food ( home made pizzas and chilli burger were excellent!) Boris is very friendly and helpful, we have booked for sunday lunch.

Decided to give this place a try and came away very happy. It's a nice little pub, with a small beer garden. It was very quiet when we went (Tuesday lunch) but we had a great baguette and chips and even had the pleasure of finding out the owner was carrying on the half price scheme. I would have happily paid full price, at half price it was an absolute bargain!

Best pub around for atmosphere, food and price, by far!!! We had the best Fish burger ever, generous portions and absolutely delicious food. Great for the kids too, the play area outside in the garden is a bonus and gave me and the wife a bit of peace to enjoy our Aperol Spritz in the sun, without aggravation. The pub is very clean, atmosphere is quite and warm, service is great and very friendly, what more to ask? Highly recommend commended to everyone! Look forward to comeback !

As a group of six, we have taken full advantage of the eat out to help out scheme and visited many establishments that are offering the deal, The Bull at Riseley far outweighs any of the places we have been to for quality and price.We will be back for sure!

Fabulous, unable to fault anything. Good food good prices. Very friendly, all local produce, dog friendly.... hats off to the chef .... I have eaten in here many times ... not one thing to moan about. The meet is not fatty which is a good thing.

Woefully unprepared for the new 'eat out to help out' scheme. We booked a table a week in advance, but there were none in the garden as promised so we sat out in front of the pub instead. We then waited over an hour for food that ended up not materialising, first they ran out of ingredients, then the oven 'broke'. As a result our drinks were kindly refunded and we were offered a voucher, but as visitors to the area, we won't have a chance to use it. We were pretty surprised that it was the manager's night off on the monday of the government scheme and there was only 1 member of staff- they clearly underestimated the popularity of the scheme.

Food was great, nice staff, well worth a visit.

The chilli was the best i've had in a long time. The rice was fluffy and the chilli itself had a nice kick to it too. Kids wolfed down their fish fingers and sausage/egg/chips. Staff are friendly and check on how we are.Nice and convenient for Wellington Country Park, a short 15 min walk away.

Stumbled across this as we drove past so decided to have our first cold pint once pubs reopened. Loved it! We were on route to relatives so just had the one. Checked the menu out and decided to convince family to come back and join us for some food. OMG the food was amazing! We had 6 clean plates! I only live about 5 miles away so now I’ve found it, I will be visiting so much more! Highly recommend....oh and staff are lovely to 😀

Having had a disappointing visit on a wet Sunday afternoon to Wellington country park, we found this pub and weren't very taken by the look of it.Having gone in, we had a lovely welcome and great service. The food was really fantastic with a choice of 4 roast all cooked very well - really delicious!!

Not the cleanest of establishments I’ve been to. The interior seems like it needs refreshing, and the atmosphere is very dull

Cant say enough about their food! The chef there is fab, nothing too much trouble, very reasonable too. Go every week to take family out..nice & friendly and great atmosphere when a band is playing!. just nice to rock up for lunch sometimes too with friend! definately reccomend a visit. Oh and lovely log fire for the cold days !

What can I say except for SUPERB! Bar staff wonderfull. Good amazing. I had the salmon which was tender and full of flavour, my friend had the bull burger and he couldn't eat it all. Will definitely be back

Classic village pub serving up delicious Sunday roasts

What a great little pub and fresh cooked food! This is a must try! The food is delivered fresh daily and if there is something you cannot find on the menu the chef will try to accommodate. They do an amazing steak on a skillet and have a nice specials board too. They start their Xmas menu in December which looks yummy, and will not only accommodate the general public but will take party bookings to, great little place. Definitely worth a try!

Very friendly place. Brilliant food did take a while to come but was well worth the wait.
