Sadly very disappointed. Came here for a family meal, my husband, my son, daughter in law and baby grandson. We had pre-booked which was good as it does get very busy. Loved the fact that my Grandson was given his own plate, and cutlery and toys were provided by the pub as well. Sadly my sons burger was very very dry and had no flavour, my poussin was literally two mouthfuls of meat. Asked for extra gravy for the table and it came out in a tiny jug, hardly enough for 1 person. My husband ordered a pudding....he had only just started his pudding when they bought the bill over and asked how we were paying.....this in my eyes is extremely rude and made us feel very rushed. In total we were there less than an hour. Will not return again which is a shame as its a good half way meet up point for the family.

We booked a table for Thursday Pizza night yesterday evening which according to the barman, was any pizza or burger for £10, which is a good deal and indeed, the pizza's were very nice and cooked to order, great. However, paying the bill was a bit of a shock. A pint of Moretti beer was £6 but worst of all, a small glass of white wine was £9.50 and with a dash of soda water brought it up to £9.90!! This, in my view, is a total rip off. The automatic service charge of 12.5% which they added brought the total bill for just two pizzas and two drinks to over £40!! There are ways of increasing your customer base and encouraging new customers but in my view this isn't one of them. A pizza/burger night for just £10 each is great but to then serve rip off priced drinks and automatically add, not just 10% service charge which is acceptable though I think should always be discretionary, but 12.5% automatically, is not the way to increase your customer base. Would I recommend this pub to anybody, NO, I wouldn't.

My partner had a roast belly pork with crisp crackling. The service was excellent the atmosphere was perfect would highly recommend . Looking forward to our next visit .

We came to the Holmbush on 7.12.24 for a christmas party. There were 16 of us. The waitress looking after us was amazing. The service was 10/10. The food was lovely and there was a disco. Really lovely atmosphere and all the staff were amazing. Thank you for such a lovely evening. Molly Maids

Sunday lunch was amazing. None of us had a starter saving space for desert. Well, space was difficult to find after the most delicious roast with lots of veg. We did cope with deconstructed cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and treacle sponges. The staff are great. Definitely a pleasure to be there.

Lovely pub with delicious Sunday lunch. However, our experience was sullied by the 12,5% “gratuity” automatically added to the bill without any prior notification (no mention of a service charge on the website or the menu). When I questioned this, the formerly very pleasant bar manager(?) adopted an edgy tone, made me feel embarrassed for having questioned it, and made pretty clear it should be paid. I felt there were two options, pay it or find myself in a very publicly uncomfortable position. Full disclosure, restaurant service charges frustrate me. Aside walking into the kitchen and helping myself, how else is my plate supposed to make it to my table? I’m very happy to reward excellent service, when my experience has been particularly special. In this case, I booked online, and ordered all drinks at the bar. Service therefore consisted of someone (who was very polite and pleasant) taking two single course orders and bringing those to the table. The table hadn’t been cleared by the time we left. Government guidance around the new law on this matter very clearly defines gratuity as a spontaneous and uncalled for payment offered by a customer. The procedure adopted by The Five Bells absolutely did not meet that definition. I appreciate The Five Bells might view its approach as a demonstration of the value it places on its staff but, unfortunately, despite a delicious roast I left with a rather sour taste in my mouth.

Excellent service and food ,when walking back to car we realised they hadn't charged us for deserts .We decided to do the descent thing and return and pay . We were slightly miffed that they weren't a bit more grateful seeming to be more concerned as to who hadn't put the deserts onto the bill . Won't stop us going back ,but JUST SAYING .

I'm not a member but I booked in with Royal Lymington Yacht Club to do RYA Level 3 Dinghy sailing course after doing levels 1 & 2 on the river Thames. The club is very nice with great views and Richard, the instructor leading the course was great and gave the choice of additional things to learn.. I had a great time out on the water and sailing on the solent felt like a real achievment. Proud to be able to say I trained at Royal Lymington Yacht Club and am looking forward to doing RYA First Aid Course in December .

We stumbled across this pub after a bracing walk on the nearby Wiston Estate. Our greeting was friendly, helpful and welcoming, we both selected the salt beef hash from the menu and it was utterly delicious. If the rest of the menu is as good as this dish, you will be assured of a great meal. The decor is a rather dated but don’t be put off - the fabulous service and food more than makes up for it.
