The Four Seasons Inn in Isle of Wight

Visited twice in the week with our dog. Archie was welcomed and made at home. The bar was quite busy with people eating and they had obviously travelled quite a way to get there. They were notably all happy when the left and some even took doggy bags away because they thought they could eat their way through the fare but were unable to. We finished all ours and really wanted puddings but could not manage it. A rare opportunity to pig out on great food in a dog-friendly environment and to enjoy chatting with the staff and all the local people who were there. What a great atmosphere and great food. We even tried the JD drinks platter for research purposes! Not our first trip to the area, just to visit this great bar and it won't be the last. We will be back to enjoy the chats, food, drinks and cosiness.

Really looking forward to this place having seen the website before visiting IOW for a holiday. Last night special. Total disaster another group left before us and we followed suit after waiting an hour for one of our three meals to arrive in isolation - inedible chicken burger. No sign of other meals so bailed. Apparently some problem with the chef. What a contrast with the website hype - you can’t big up a venue and operate like this. Was like the day before Gordon Ramsay turned up!

We were looking so forward to an evening at Smokin Jacks but it didn't last long once we arrived. The beer garden was unkept and not inviting the toilets were filthy I wish I had my phone on me. We had a table booked for food but we didn't stay after seeing the state of the toilets. All staff out the back not at the bar making sure customers happy. A great believer if you can't keep areas clean that customers see then what state is the kitchen like that you can't see. We went on a Wednesday evening they had been closed Monday and Tuesday and didn't open till 5pm on the Wednesday so no excuse. Feeling very disappointed.

My family & I went to Smokin Jacks while on holiday on the Isle of Wight, The ribs were to die for, all the food was great & the service was second to none, This comes highly recommended with a 5* revue

Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food here. Really tasty and freshly cooked. A bit of a wait, though, as others have commented.

Honestly the best burger I have ever eaten. I had the unicorn burger & my hubby had the Big Jack Burger. Both were SUPERB! I ordered without bacon and got coleslaw free of charge as a substitute. The unicorn burger literally sparkles & is the perfect combination of sweet & savoury! We will 100% be back!! Food - amazing! Service - amazing!! Thank you :)

Absolutely stunning food! If you love a real, fresh, and incredibly tasty burger, this is your place. Absolutely no complaint’s whatsoever, very very impressed. We will be back!

Complete shambles !!! We waited over an hour for food . We didn’t get asked if we needed another drink in that time . No service at all !!! The restaurant was empty except for one large table in the bar area . Cold roast …burnt carrots …cold cabbage !!! Would we return or recommend ! Absolutely not !!! An explanation for the delay or an apology would have gone a long way .

Friendly staff,was busy on arrival so had to wait a little while for food which you expect when busy,we were served drinks promptly & complimentary nachos whilst waiting for our food which was absolutely delicious! It was our daughters 18th birthday & her meal arrived with a sparkler candle which was a nice touch 🎉 We will definitely be returning here 😊

Me and my partner have been wanting to try here for a while but never got the chance to until now and we were not disappointed at all! Everything from start to finish was amazing! The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, table service was fast. The food tasted absolutely delicious and enjoyed every bit of it. Service for food was a little slow due to only having 1 chef, the staff couldn’t apologise enough but it wasn’t an issue at all for anyone and to be honest it was more than worth the little extra wait! We will definitely be coming back again! See you soon! :)

We had my wife's birthday meal at Smokin Jacks (formerly The Star) recently after hearing & reading some very good reviews & were certainly not disappointed. We have recommended this place to friends & family & we will definitely return. Staff were all very friendly & helpful & ensured that my wife had a lovely evening. The burgers were fantastic & everyone said how good they were, the kids especially loved their meals. I had the unicorn burger, which was really good, however in my opinion my wife's steak was the star of the show, it was cooked & seasoned absolutely perfectly. Only small negative was they didn't have any alcohol free beer which would of been nice as it is a little bit out of the way. We are already looking forward to returning. I would definitely recommend booking if you intend to eat here, as I think every table had a reserve sign on!

Burgers were so tasty, the best we’ve tasted outside of the US, especially the JD burger. Frickles were on point and the homemade cheesecake was out of this world. Waiter was were attentive with great service.

My husband had the signature Jack Daniels burger and I had the Ribs. Oh my the burger my husband will be back for but the Ribs...... A full rack of pork ribs glazed in jack daniels and chilly sauce. Huge and totally amazing. Most expensive item on the menu but worth every penny!!! I could not finish them and apparently a small version 😮 Landlord was in the kitchen and landlady served us with excellent customer service. Highly recommended. This is now Smokin Jack's not The Star and it is well worth a visit.

Staff. Polite, lovely, friendly people, family run. (Mum on the bar, dad in the kitchen, children around and making us feel comfortable noninvasive) Starter The jalapeño cheese nachos, lovely cheese sauce I couldn’t get enough of it, unfortunately no photo’s because my partner and I dug straight in and didn’t stop till they where gone. Not a starter but we started with that. Texas toast. Next level tasty tomato dip was to die for. Main Signature jack Daniel’s, Photo out side does this no justice!! This was most probably/is the best burger I’ve ever had. Oozing from every angle. Thank you chef!! The unicorn, Meaty mouth full. The burger shines as it hits the table really has the wow factor. To finish I’m full ! Next time I’ll choose the cheesecake. Honestly I’m trying to find things wrong with this place and I can’t, I’m very picky and usually quite the critic. If you haven’t been here and are thinking about coming then stop thinking just come here seriously. terry your the god of burgers thank you very much. Toilets. I booked for my partners early birthday treat and the staff very kindly put a sparkler in his burger. The food was great and I was fascinated by the unicorn burger. I informed the restaurant in advance that I only eat chicken and the manager assured me there would be chicken on the day and there was. I can honestly say I’ve never had a chicken burger like it; very different but I did enjoyed it. We had cheesecake for dessert but I couldn’t manage all mine, however the staff member offered to box it up for me to take home. I was really impressed with the look of the bar and even the toilets smelt good. The only thing we were unclear on is are you called The Star or Smokin’ Jack’s? Thank you for making a special occasion everything we hoped it would be.

Only popped in for a quick drink! Have to say the smell that met me in the bar was terrible. I appreciate that given the current economic climate things may be tough in hospitality, but the place was empty and I’m not surprised. I ordered a large Jack Daniel’s and Soda, which given that they have all but sold their soul to the Jack Daniel’s Brand!!! The cost was exceptional. Close to £10.00. What made it ridiculous was that the Soda (delivered via a multi button dispenser) made up £1.50. Must be the most expensive water on the Isle of Wight!! Really this place is best avoided.

First visit for us as a family and what a lovely effort the team made. We booked our table a couple of weeks back and explained it was for my sons birthday and would we be allowed to bring a birthday cake with us to which they were really kind and agreed to. We arrived to the pub and we’re so surprised to see banners were put up and even supplied us with a helium balloon… my son was most impressed as he usually gets one each year and this year I forgot! Whoops! The menu is really extensive and the offer of the free kids meals from 3-7pm is a fantastic incentive! Service was quite slow and there weren’t a lot of people in but I understand the family have just welcomed a new baby so maybe a bit stretched on staff? (completely understandable) the customer service was fantastic the girl serving us was really lovely and when we had a bit of a flat coke (husband was too polite to say anything at first) this was changed straight away. The staff brought out the cake for us and even added some cake sparklers which my son was amazed by! All in all a great visit with really tasty food.

We popped in for a drink on Tuesday after a very long walk and Archie the Chocolate labrador was instantly welcomed by the staff and we were not far behind (lol!). It was a nice atmosphere from the off and we enjoyed the chilled relaxed tone to the place. The drinks were served with a smile and explanation given as to the JD link, which was interesting. The notices about the JD history was interesting and I would be keen to see more, as well as the history of the original pub (The Star, I believe it is originally named). It is just a shame that the Jack Daniel's memorabilia was not readily available for a short while, due to supply chain issues (more of that later) but this is likely to be resolved within a very short time frame. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and although we were told to book for eating, it was initially quite quiet at 5pm. By 6pm people seemed to be coming into the restaurant a lot. We had to leave to get on with other things but before we did we were helped by a fantastic ambassador for the place, Mikey, who recommended dishes for the next day. The following day, we returned to eat. What an amazing surprise!. A JD themed birthday corner for my wife, complete with JD merchandise and a hat, balloons and banners, decorations up the wall and service to die for. I cannot even recall mentioning the birthday....but someone must have picked up on it and what a joy it was to have that celebrated with my wife. The food was ordered in accordance with the recommendations from Mikey and nearly a week later, we are craving to go back and experience it again. The service was timely, incredibly friendly, welcoming and it was such a shame to have to leave at the end of the evening. Of particular note, is that my daughter in law has a good deal of experience with food and hygiene standards and is quick to identify issues whenever we go out. She spotted nothing negative. Nothing! Even the young lady who had just started her first shift was being treated patiently and attentively and we were happy to assist in her induction when we could. We will follow you on FB so we can order some JD memorabilia when your shop is open again. I did not drink JD as a matter of course but was tempted (successfully) to try the different types and would have purchased some JD items as gifts. Next time! Smokin' Jack's - we found you randomly and were so pleased we did . We did not read any reviews before we came for the drinks but after eating in your restaurant and having you share my wife's birthday, we are happy to tell anyone who will listen, that you are worth coming back to. We are even planning how we can get back for a short break in the next few months to share in your success. Thank you so much.

Food looks good to the eye but tastes terrible, the fries tasted of mud/soil very odd! The burgers are very dry, and bacon is not American bacon! Americans eat streaky bacon ffs! The staff were miserable right from the off too! The kitchen staff were all sat outside on the floor looking stoned, as you walk in and out! AND then there’s the F’in FLIES the place is full of them my £20 burger had flies crawling all over it, for what it’s worth it was that bad they might as well of had it! The Flies told staff about it and they said it’s been an ongoing problem yet the bins right outside are overflowing wide open with waste! It doesn’t take a genius to work out why it’s so bad! The kids cheese pizza got good reviews on the table everything else was very very expensive bad food! The bar had run out of gin & cola and half the menu wasn’t available LUCKILY!!

Great American Eats and Drinks, very friendly and accommodating staff, food is unrivalled anywhere I have been on the island. And if you happen to like Jack Daniels a major plus as this place has it all. Great outdoor space and games, I will definitely be visiting again.

Fantastic food, the rack of ribs is just amazing. And do not miss out on the burgers… well done to the team!

We visited the star for an evening meal.whilst there was a bit of delay due to a large group who had ordered before us the wait was worth it thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will return in the future.

Came for lunch and had the bacon avo lettuce and tomato sandwich which my partner thoroughly enjoyed ,i had the slow cooked brisket on rye bread , altough it wasnt brisket or slow cooked and it wasnt rye bread! ,it was a very nice beef...

This place is outstanding! The food stands out from the crowd and tastes as amazing as it looks. The staff are extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. They definitely go above and beyond for their customers. We will definitely be returning!

Just a 5 minute drive from Ventnor. Reduced menu due to COVID supply problems but the burgers we had were delicious. The cookies and ice cream from the kids menu was superb. Clean and very welcoming staff. WCs needed an upgrade.

We holiday in the Isle of Wight every year in Shanklin and always walk along to Wroxall to visit this pub for food and drink. The staff are always really friendly and the food is great. The place had been renovated since we came last...

Miserable staff who have there kids wondering around the pub all hours no wonder there was only 3 people in there on a Saturday night landlady and landlord just sit outside smoking. Was not offered any food and was made to feel unwanted. No entertainment also asked for some music and landlord told us he was watching the football.... What a dive!

Went to this pub on a Tuesday evening hoping to get some food. Walked in and I was surprised someone didn't start playing the Battle of the Banjos from Deliverance.We were told they don't do food on a Tuesday......UNLESS you have VIP membership., then we could have had food. So obviously there was a chef there cooking. This pub also doesn't do food on Mondays !!Well if you're only concerned with your 'locals', good luck because there wasn't many in there anyway.Loads more decent pubs near to Wroxall...try the Fighting Cocks. Superb food and welcoming staff.

We visited this place for our club meal my wife sorted it all out there was 17 of us and even with 3 staff down we got good service and great food had by all, lovely place for food or just wind down with a pint got a jack daniels promotion on at moment so worth it just for that definitely be back

I stopped at this little gem of a pub tonight in Wroxall for the first time tonight what a great pub they was busy tonight had to wait about 5 mins for my table which wasn’t a problem I got a drink and was sitting looking at the menu it all looked very nice coming out of the kitchen I had the steak and ale pie came out with tomato on the vine which was nice lots of fresh flavours on the plate a young family own it credit to you all for your hard work love mr cheeky in Kent 100/100 you got to try this pub

A little off the beaten track but well worth finding. The staff and food were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were very helpful and informative. Se vice was efficient and friendly. The food was so exceptional my wife sad it was the best BLT she had ever had and the beef and ale pie I had was outstanding. Well worth the visit.

A wonderful buffet to celebrate my mum’s passing. The food was amazing and the staff very helpful, especially as they managed to carry it all out without the chef who had called in sick. Visited this pub with my family for dinner as we were staying near. Staff friendly and accommodating, very welcoming of children and dogs- all very relaxed. Food was good and the chef very kindly made a children’s portion of fish and chips for one of my children when I asked if this was possible.

Been twice this week, once for lunch and tonight for an evening meal! Food was excellent on both occasions. Chef has a wonderful personality and is an asset to the restaurant. I feel bad though as we sorted the bill out between us, after we left we realised we didn’t leave a tip, so feeling bad sorry didn’t mean too. Will be back again so will leave double next time. 2 night stay on the island, so glad this place was recommended to us. Friendly staff, good gin and beers. Food is amazing. Portions are good size and value for money. We came on the hottest day so far, the ice machine broke down but they managed to get ice from somewhere. Hope this place goes from strength to strength. Nelson and Winnie loved the ham, chef!!

I know the Star of old, its had several "go's" but in the last couple of months since the new chef, Michael arrived bristling with energy and bursting with talent, this pub restaurant has been totally reborn. I have eaten the sumptuous, moreish, roast dinner, the fish and chips (3 times) - actually the best I have eaten on the Island - and tonight the Penang Curry, the heat perfectly judged with flavours beautifully and delicately balanced and 10 mins later still lingering like the best memories. The pudding was delicious and subtle - Chocolate and Pistachio Torte with berries and a complimentary fig. This is just what the Star and indeed Wroxall needed, a chef with attitude and flair to invigorate classic pub dishes with an imagination and intensity of flavour not often seen in village pubs - and with sharp affordable pricing to boot . I'm impressed and I'll bang the drum because I keep coming here - why?, because the foods so damn good!

Visited a few times since the refurbishment. Love the decor, feels much more sociable. Not yet tried the food, however it's only a matter of time. Heard great things from some of my guests, so can't wait to try.

Myself and family have been here 3 times within a few weeks, only for them to tell us that they didn't do food. First attempt; they didn't do food on Mondays. Okay, fine. However the second attempt (we arrived at about 2:30) we were told that the chef decided to shut down everything to go home "due to it being super quiet" (I wonder why!) And so we decided to come back the next day, where they said that we will be served... This THIRD attempt however, my mum slammed the door and was very upset after only looking inside to see a large sign by the bar saying that the chef wasn't available!!! My mum has always wanted to come here for a meal for the first time, but after three attempts in two weeks, she wont bother anymore. Always keep an open mind when it comes to ordering food at The Star!!!

We visited on our way back from a funeral, so we had booked for a vague time, for a flexible number of people so were completely prepared for a wait or for table difficulties but NO, we received a very warm welcome, excellent service, lovely food. At least 4 of our party wanted to change things on their meal, all of which was no trouble.

Really excellent roast lunch. My wife and I had pork. Yorkshires and veg were lovely, as was the gravy which had a garlic hint. My vegetarian daughter loved her’s too; it came with a veggie patti. My Goddard’s amber ale was great companion with it!

As soon as you walk in attentive staff see you to your table, what can I say absolutely brilliant plates hot, food presented beautifully, and tasted delicious, if your looking for a Sunday lunch which we had you will be hard to find a better one on the Island hats off to the Chef and new owners you are doing Wroxall proud, will definitely be our regular now as we live in Wroxall.

Lovely pub, lovely owners and brilliant chef! What more can I say except that if you want a friendly pub with excellent food and staff then don't hesitate to give The Star a go. Trying the Sunday roast next week, can't wait!

We were fairly nervous about eating out at the Star Inn ..we had heard it had got run down and was getting bad reviews..but under a new chef we were hoping things had improved. We really enjoyed our meal.. good old fish n chips for me (with nice extra touches) and steak cooked to mothers preference... " really lovely chips; better than the Pointers"! She had to share her very tasty stilton stuffed mushroom with me. We were too stuffed for pudding. A village needs a pub and we hope that the Star Inn continues to rise.

We hadn't been to the Star Inn for a long time after a couple of poor visits in the past, We had heard and seen that it was under new ownership and on a cold Saturday we decided to give it a try for lunch.

Our first visit and wont be out last. As a family we struggle with eating out due to our young children having adhd and autism, without even apologising the friendly staff welcomed us and provided off the menu choices for our fussy children and went with their flow, food was fantastic and at great prices,made us feel very relaxed and looked after... thank you

was in the area and went in for a coffee and a sandwich , well i got them but all at different times, so when my sandwich did arrive my coffee was cold and so was the bread and it looks like the place was ready to close down , so sad to see yet another pub go to the wall

The last time we visited Wroxall (Sept 17) the Star was shut, and didn't look, at the time, likely to reopen. However, in May this year we returned (The Star is very convenient for both Appuldurcombe House, and the Donkey Sanctuary), it was open again, and under new management. The pub has hardly changed, there is a good selection of beers, and the menu offers a good variety of dishes. One word of warning for the smaller appetite - the portions are enormous!!

We were celebrating a family anniversary and wanted a local venue to be able to walk to.

We were staying in the area and stopped by for a drink and a snack one evening. The restaurant didn’t look to have much atmosphere so we had drinks and snacks in the public bar. My wife had whitebait and I had the melted Camembert - both were excellent. When the rest of our party arrived we pulled up an extra table. They had mains, including fish and chips, and lasagne - and enjoyed them all. The decor isn’t anything special but the food and drink were priced below other (more touristy) pubs in the Isle of Wight which we visited during this holiday. This pub is under new management and they appear to be making a special effort to attract customers. With each drink there was a free raffle with prizes including shot glasses, shots and 10% off an already very good value drinks bill. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Under new management, this is a great place to stop for some food and drink when walking or cycling on the Isle of Wight. A few minutes from the Wroxall end of the Red Squirrel Trail from Shanklin we received a very warm welcome and had a lovely soup and sandwich.

we visited this pub on holiday for an evening meal. We had to wait quite a long time even though we were the only ones to order a meal. Two of us ordered Hunters chicken and it was covered in what seemed to be tomato ketchup which didnt taste very nice and we left a lot on the plate. Very mediocre meals after a very pleasaant welcome.

We were greeted on arrival by the nice staff ... but after that there wasn’t much to recommend it I’m afraid. I don’t mind a basic pub but it did look a bit shabby inside and out and on closer inspection the window sills by our table were pretty grubby which was a bit off-putting. We ordered the Sunday roast. The meat and gravy were ok if a little bland but the roast potatoes were hard on the outside and a bit sweaty on the inside and clearly had been sitting around in a hot tray for some considerable time. The whole thing was just a bit uninspiring.

Lovely staff who were friendly and helpful, and great food that was all freshly cooked. I’m vegan and there appeared to be a few options on the menu that could be vegan or made vegan which is great (e.g. five bean chilli, baked sweet potato and salsa). It would be great to add vegetarian and vegan labels to the menu to make it easier to know what we can order. The staff were also very flexible and offered to make a vegan couscous salad that wasn’t on the menu. I had the baked sweet potato and salsa which was delicious! My parents are vegetarian and asked for a veggie Sunday roast which they happily did for them - portions and food were great, but unfortunately there was no vegetarian gravy available so they had to have it dry. They kindly offered to go to the shop to buy some for us but we said not to worry. Bisto original gravy is vegetarian and vegan so is great to have in for future veggie and vegan customers. A lovely pub that we visit every year on our holiday in the Isle of Wight, with a great outdoor seating area. The new owners are great and we will be back next year as always!

Very friendly atmosphere, asked for vegetarian Sunday lunch which they did but unfortunately the gravy is made with meat juice so it might be an idea to have some bistro original on the shelf as the veg and Yorkshire pud wasn’t so nice without . The lovely waitress did offer to go and get some from the shop though but the food would have got cold but the thought was there.

Walked from Shanklin to Wroxall to get a Sunday lunch. New landlord and landlady greeted us. Extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Good choice of roasts for the Sunday dinner, plenty of fresh vegetables served with the meat, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes, overall a good, tasty good value meal. This place is definitely worth a visit

Fantastic food and friendly staff and atmosphere. Busy week at work and needed a bit of a relaxing break and this is the place to go.

Friendly team. Excellent choice of well kept beer. Good value menu. Ideally situated for a stop off for lunch if you’re on a walk.

We though we would give the star another chance as they are now under new management. The pub is tidy and there is a wide choice on the menu. We are shown to our table and given some menus. The waitress was very friendly she wasn’t sure about a couple of our drink choices. When the food arrive it was well cooked and very tasty. Our waitress advised us about the deserts and they are freshly made by the chef which we ordered for our girls, they were very good too. We are only here for a long weekend but will be back for our normal two weeks next year and will be returning. Glad they have turned the pub around from our last visit and hope they get support from locals and tourists

Me and my mother in law popped in for a drink on a really hot sunny day.

We popped in on the off chance as the Taverners in godshill was closed. Bit unsure of the place but thought we'd give it a go. Ordered our drinks but there was no merlot, no prosecco, no kronenberg, no coors even though they advertised them all, they'd ran out of them all so we settled on a cider and cab sav which wasn't the best. The food wasn't bad at all, in fact I was surprised how nice it was after the the drink debarckle but in the back ground throughout the meal was the constant argument of the owners with their kids who were unfortunately misbehaving. I realise it must be difficult bringing kids up in a bar but they were quite loud and constantly being told off and being shouted out the entire time we were there. Food great but the whole experience and atmosphere I found too stressful.

Visited it earlier in the year when they were renovating it, but it was so cold we had to leave. On this occasion it was unseasonally cold. However, the heating was still kept off. The waitress staff were very keen and did their best. Apparently, they are trying to keep it as a community pub but there is some kind of issue with the brewery. They need to get a lot more custom. There were signs all over saying "Save our Pub". Thats the background. The menu, which as well as the standard favourites, has a varied American theme. It looked quite extensive to me. The Sunday roast was average. The staff are really trying and deserve to succeed. The docor and general appearence could be improved, but that will come. I wish them luck.

I had the Lasagne & was very disappointed, very bland, no flavour at all & nor enough sauce. Was a very good vibe in there though.
