The Crown is a family favourite and we have been coming for years. It is a charming pub! The current owners have been our favourite visits and the menu has a fantastic choice. My mum and I had the special: mushroom linguine. It was delicious and tasted like high restaurant quality. We also enjoyed the mousse and roulade. My toddler loves the chips every time he visits. Friendly staff and delicious comforting food. We also love the fact it has a well equipped playground for children to enjoy along with the stream.

Beautiful setting, friendly service, incredible food. We had the steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding for afters... we've eaten at a lot of places on the isle of wight over the past 4 weeks and this place tops the lot. 100% recommended 100% will be returning

We visited the pub twice during the course of a short stay and the food and drink was up to the high standards that we have enjoyed on previous visits. The Guinness and steak pie was delicious and my wife had the lasagne, both were very generous portions. We returned for Sunday lunch which was very nice. Very pleased to here that this pub was recently awarded the IoW pub of the year, thoroughly deserved,

Nice local pub, great staff and lovely food

Delighted to learn of The Crown's recent Best Isle of Wight Pub award. This is so richly deserved for all the hard work that the whole team have put in, to first rescue a dying country business, and then really make it sparkle. This is not an easy thing to do in today's economic climate. We particularly love the consistently high standard of drinks, food, comfort and atmosphere. On sunny days it also has the added bonus of a safe children's play area and an adjacent trickling stream, that people can sit beside to watch the fish and ducks. Thoroughly recommended.

The Crown Inn is an island gem, sitting nestled along a trout stream in a beautiful setting. Great choice of menu using local ingredients, cooked from scratch and always delicious. Staff are friendly, professional, and very hard working. My absolute favourites are the mushroom lasagne and the goat curry. Well deserved award for best IW pub.

If you are looking for a charming country pub that hasn’t had the life sucked out of it by a chain then we highly recommend the delightful Crown Inn in Shorwell. After a stroll it’s the perfect spot to stop for lunch & the Sunday roast is top notch. We opted for the beef & it came out plentiful & well presented with stuffing & lovely homemade gravy, fresh veg, exceptional fluffy Yorkshire pud & roasties. No Aunt Bessie’s here! Our server was friendly & attentive & came back to check all was satisfactory. Tables are lovely & clean & had fresh flowers, a lovely little touch. The whole place has a friendly ambience & fresh decor in keeping with its location & age of this charming pub. The bar man was just as friendly & highly knowledgeable about the ales. The place was very busy & we had been lucky enough to get the last table inside during lunch time so be sure to book. We would have braved the spring chill and joined other diners outside in the lovely garden if not. Only wish we’d had room for dessert!

We had a lovely evening at the Crown, the staff were fab especially the young barman. Food was great, we ended up staying for the quiz and had loads of fun. Would definitely return!

We didn't eat here, but we will definitely return for food another time. Such a beautiful pub set in the heart of Brighstone village with a freshwater stream running alongside. The staff and other customers were very friendly, and the food looked amazing. Can't wait for the warmer months to take full advantage of the garden.

Consistently good food with a casual environment

We booked a last minute table for lunch on a Sunday and the mushroom lasagne was lovely, as were the cheesecakes. The service was also very good. We visited a couple of years ago and didn’t have such a great experience, but happy to say everything was great this time around.

Last night I was one of a group of over 20 people that had a Christmas dinner together at The Crown inn. I can honestly say the staff were brilliant and the food was amazing. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Crown Inn. Thanks for a great evening. We all had a great time.

A wonderful cosy pub. We visiting friends here as we live in Cornwall. Our Sunday Roast was absolutely fantastic and delicious, one of the best we have had in a pub.. plenty of food, well cooked, lovely Homemade Yorkshire pudding. A credit to the Chef and His team. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.shall go there again before we go Home. Thankyou to you all.

The Crown Inn in Shorwell is a hidden gem! Nestled in the heart of the village, this charming pub offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, delicious food, and exceptional service. Dog friendly & a lovely stream that runs alongside the pub garden.

Nicely presented and well cooked meal. I had the light bite versions of macaroni cheese and garlic bread, and there was plenty. Clean friendly pub.

We really liked the food here. The dishes are all freshly prepared and vary good value. Staff were friendly and accommodating. A really nice place for an informal meal.

This pub is our local and boy are we glad, we eat here often. Only downside for me is they do not serve enough green veg, way too much red cabbage, other than that a fantastic old village pub with brilliant friendly owners and staff. ☺️

Our 3rd trip to the Crown Inn at Shorewell. There is no denying the quality of the food, served in traditional cosy surroundings by friendly helpful staff. Today we sat in the sun beside the trout stream - idyllic. Only one minor grumble - since April my mother and I have looked forward to returning to the Crown for what is most surely the best fish finger sandwich anywhere. Thick soft white bread, tartare sauce and sublimely cooked fish goujons - we have raved about these to anyone who will listen. Today the menu said it was served in a baguette. I asked if there was a chance we could have it as a sandwich as my mother would struggle with a baguette but was told no as they don’t keep bread on the premises. I do think that there should be an option of a bread sandwich as not everyone celebrates the baguette. Disappointed but not deterred we chose something else from the menu - not what we’d gone for but still beautifully presented and delicious. Looking forward to visiting them again on our next trip.

We had a great evening meal here this evening. The staff were very friendly. The food was delicious. We both had the specials on offer and unusually we had desserts. In all a great experience. The pub is very popular so I would recommend booking. Lots of tables had been reserved.

Can’t fault the service - all staff were very friendly. And the pub itself is quite cute. However the food is a different story. I had eaten here last year and thought the food was decent (vegetarian bangers and mash). I believe they’ve changed their menu since and it now includes a variety of veggie options. But none of the options we tried from there this time were good, including a meat pie. The vegetable tagine did not taste good and was over cooked/heated and felt like a ready made meal. And the Moroccan cauliflower bites looked as though they’d come out of a supermarket packet. So overall pretty bad.

Had a fabulous seafood platter. It was quite expensive but it was obvious that they had used the freshest fish- well worth it. The squid chilli balls were delicious. Generous portions too.

Well worth the drive to the crown 💯 every time. Popped in for a late lunch with hubby yesterday, another great visit - of course I had the ploughmans and he had the goat curry, both delicious! great service yet again and of course well kept ales to keep the hubby happy,

A beautiful pub set in amazing gardens and hidden away on the Isle of White. Friendly staff and an historic building that is comfortable and authentic. Lots seems to go off here and I will definitely be going back to enjoy more of what this place has to offer.

We were initially just popping in for a drink in the sun but as soon as I walked in and smelt the roast dinners I began debating lunch too. Then I saw some roasts being brought out and that was it decision made. We were having lunch too! The Food is outstanding and staff were super friendly and attentive. I really cannot fault the service, the location, the facilities or the staff. I had such a lovely afternoon sat in the sun listening to the live music and watching the fish and trout in the stream and I have no reservation in recommending this place to everyone . ☺️

This is a great old English pub set alongside a country stream with fish and ducks. The inside is a proper old style pub, full of character. We came out to lunch with one of the vouchers they donated to a local charity do. The food was fabulous, tasty and we'll portioned. Happy to recommend the drive out or catch the bus that stops outside it.

Recently went here as a family of 5. All had a different meal and each one was really tasty- good home cooked food. Good service, friendly staff. Good space both inside, and out in the beer garden. Will definitely visit again as lots of lovely walks around the area, and will follow this with a meal and drinks in great surroundings. Would recommend.

Great beer, delicious food, and service was quick and friendly. Even as a group of 14 people who arrived spontaneously, we were served quickly. We left the restaurant with a full stomach and in a good mood😃

While on holiday, we went here for Cod and Chips, which was superb, lovely and fresh. We didn't have to wait long either. I also had Coconut and Chocolate Cheesecake, excellent. The staff were very pleasant, atmosphere lovely. I highly recommend the excellent food, and this wonderful pub *****!!!!

A gorgeous seafood tagliatelle to cheer me up. Full of King prawns, Crab meat and mussels....delicious. Staff always welcome you with a smile.

What a find. A lovely 'local' pub which pulls off the trick of being atmospheric and lovely to drink in..as well as being a great place to eat lovely food. The selection of food was good, the flavour was wonderful and it was served by very friendly staff. The beer was in good condition too. Oh and I'm a sucker for a country pub with a nice fire, they have two lovely log fires. I look forward to returning and wish I lived nearby. The following bad joke has nothing to do with this pub, but made me smile on the subject of crowning: Beauty contests are becoming a popular way to promote things. For instance, the winner of the Trigonometry Club's beauty pageant was crowned.... Miss Calculation. Tour Leader pageant winner: Miss Guided Encyclopedia Brittanica pageant winner: Miss Information How I Mark. I may mark differently to some other reviewers, some might see this as harsh, others may see it as fair. But here's how I look at it: 5 star - WOW. I want to go back and look forward to doing so. They delivered everything expected and more. The 'more' is normally about the service or attitude of the staff. 4 star - GOOD. They delivered everything I wanted and a bit more. I recommend them and would go back. 3 star - OK. They delivered what I expected, I would go back if I needed to, although don't currently plan on doing so. 2 star - Not very good. I didn't get what I expected and the service wasn't good. I don't recommend this place. I might get dragged back here, although will always try to avoid it 1 star - RUBBISH. Don't go there, I certainly won't go there again. I didn't get what I wanted, the people were unhelpful and I didn't enjoy it in any way.

Come for roast dinner for mother's day me and mum roast dad jewel burger roast was cold dad's burger looked way better but they did replace mums food and a free glass of wine would still go back

Last night the pub had its ‘Spanish Night’ so we booked a table to give it a try. The food was absolutely excellent. We had a sharing platter to start with bread, cheese, aioli and cold meats. For main we shared Patatas Bravas, Salt Cod Croquettes (the best!), garlic prawns and spicy meatballs. The Chardonnay wine was fabulous too. Lovely service and beautiful country pub.

An excellent tapas menu food on The Crown Inns Spanish night. Very good value for high end restaurant quality home cooked food with good beer and wine. Can’t fault the service. Recommend you visit.

We visited as a family while on holiday on the island and staying locally. It felt like a proper English pub should and so often don't anymore! We got a friendly welcome, a warm atmosphere, good pint and great food. Couldn't have asked for more. Highlight of our weekend!

Went with family for a 'Sunday Lunch'. Some of the 'Specials' were 'sold out', despite it not being very busy! The 'meat pie' was the only one to recommend. The 'Roast' was ok, but the plate was filled with an inedible 'Yorkshire Pudding' to disguise a lack of vegetables! Too many choices of lager, and only 2 choices of Beer! Nice cosy pub, but needs to decide who your customers are!

We took the work force for Christmas party last night. The food from the Christmas menu was brilliant. The pub was warm and cosy the service was very good.

Had our daughters 18th birthday meal here. All the food was lovely, nice and hot and came out together for a party of 11. We were able to bring our own balloons and cake, very accommodating!!

We came here and sat in the sunshine by the beautiful river with trout fish swimming. We had some lovely sandwiches beautiful presented generous portions and absolutely delicious. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Really good service. A real gem on the island.

We were staying just outside Shorwell and The Crown came highly recommended. We could see why as soon as we walked through the door. The staff were welcoming and friendly from the moment we walked through the door, so much so, having just popped in for some liquid refreshment, we decided to book for dinner the following evening. The same greeting was waiting when we arrived. Pub food perfectly cooked. The portions were more than generous. The manager who served us was extremely friendly and proud of the establishment he runs, as testified by it being a focus for the surrounding community. Would definitely eat there again.

Beautiful country pub with a well maintained family bar garden. The food was fabulous, Porkbelly, Fish and chips and Cod fishcakes with chilli sauce were our choices. We bought fish food to fed the fish in the pond next to the beer garden. Would definitely visit here again 👍.

Stopped here on the off chance of getting lunch. Walked in and tables available. Food is outstanding and staff friendly. Great place to eat as service is excellent. Some low roof height in between the bars but a great place to tuck into some grub.

Ale was nice,if a bit too cool. Meals looked good but meat pie whilst the filling was excellent the 'shortcrust pastry' was too hard to cut and inedible. What went wrong? Everyone in our group ate heartily so a dissapointment for me!!

Always had a good meal here and the staff are great. If you go for the steak and ale pie, be prepared for a meat overload, it's packed with juicy tender beef! I got food envy when I tried my husbands raspberry roulade so I'll definitely be having one of those next time. Thanks again.

Washed down a lasagne with a nice pint in the lovely garden. Plenty of parking and a little area for the kids to play. Lively clear stream flowing last where you'll see fish and ducks.

We stayed in shorewell for a holiday , the local pub is the Crown, the food here is ace ,, I ordered a steak and ale pie 🥧,,omg was huge 😋, very friendly atmosphere here , we really enjoyed the food , great little pub well worth a visit , booking is a must as does get busy , from gozzy

Our local pub and we couldn't ask for better. A great day on Bank Holiday Monday with the duck race. Lots of fun. Staff pulled out all the stops busy with food and drink all day, they played a blinder.

After shopping in Newport we drove randomly to look for a pub for lunch and were running out of steam when we found this place. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere but it's worth a journey and let's face it nowhere is that far on the island. It's in a lovely little village and next to a stream where there is to be a duck race in a few weeks. The pub itself is full of character and there are several pleasant areas to eat outside, some next to the stream. The menu offers a good selection and there are specials each day. My wife had the steak and ale pie and it was an enormous slice packed with tender steak and plenty for a hungry horse but too much for my wife despite it being excellent. My daughter had the light bite version of fish and chips also excellent and I had a special which was Red Velvet prawns which turned out to be king prawns coated in beetroot tinted breadcrumbs. It came with a nicely dressed salad and good skinny fries and was good if not excellent. To follow my wife and daughter shared a sticky toffee pudding. The portion once again was large and both said it was the best they had ever eaten. Delicious toffee and a very light sponge and a little pot of custard on the side. They were good enough to leave me the last mouthful and it was extremely good. I had a lemon panacotta tart and without wishing to sound repetitive was extremely good. Coffee was good, service helpful, cheerful and timely, and the prices good. Desserts at just £5.50 are rare these days. Most of my reviews are necessarily negative so it's nice to be able to be so chipper!

Lost 3 of its original 5 stars I gave it 5 years ago... purely as it now considers fresh seasonal vegetables as red cabbage with cinnamon. They serve it with everything... and christ is it foul.

Wonderful food, freshly cooked huge mains & magnificent deserts. We were recommended by a local & The Crown didn't disappoint. Local beers on tap were the icing on the cake. Highly recommend as this was the best value we've had for a long time.

I love this place. I sat outside watching the trout swim by in the stream. food is very good and the pudding are also very good. Great place to have a wedding here too.

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch at 4:30pm as a group of 6 adults, 1 toddler and a baby. 1 adult and the toddler both have a dairy allergy and all staff members went above and beyond to ensure all dietary requirements were met and that all questions were answered which we were more than grateful for. Arrived shortly before a very large booking and the staff apologised for any delays but we didn’t receive any delays at all. All mains were super delicious and we treated ourselves to puddings too which I couldn’t recommend enough! Thank you such a lovely evening to start off our summer holiday!
