This pub is our local and boy are we glad, we eat here often. Only downside for me is they do not serve enough green veg, way too much red cabbage, other than that a fantastic old village pub with brilliant friendly owners and staff. ☺️

Our 3rd trip to the Crown Inn at Shorewell. There is no denying the quality of the food, served in traditional cosy surroundings by friendly helpful staff. Today we sat in the sun beside the trout stream - idyllic. Only one minor grumble - since April my mother and I have looked forward to returning to the Crown for what is most surely the best fish finger sandwich anywhere. Thick soft white bread, tartare sauce and sublimely cooked fish goujons - we have raved about these to anyone who will listen. Today the menu said it was served in a baguette. I asked if there was a chance we could have it as a sandwich as my mother would struggle with a baguette but was told no as they don’t keep bread on the premises. I do think that there should be an option of a bread sandwich as not everyone celebrates the baguette. Disappointed but not deterred we chose something else from the menu - not what we’d gone for but still beautifully presented and delicious. Looking forward to visiting them again on our next trip.

Can’t fault the service - all staff were very friendly. And the pub itself is quite cute. However the food is a different story. I had eaten here last year and thought the food was decent (vegetarian bangers and mash). I believe they’ve changed their menu since and it now includes a variety of veggie options. But none of the options we tried from there this time were good, including a meat pie. The vegetable tagine did not taste good and was over cooked/heated and felt like a ready made meal. And the Moroccan cauliflower bites looked as though they’d come out of a supermarket packet. So overall pretty bad.

What a find. A lovely 'local' pub which pulls off the trick of being atmospheric and lovely to drink in..as well as being a great place to eat lovely food. The selection of food was good, the flavour was wonderful and it was served by very friendly staff. The beer was in good condition too. Oh and I'm a sucker for a country pub with a nice fire, they have two lovely log fires. I look forward to returning and wish I lived nearby. The following bad joke has nothing to do with this pub, but made me smile on the subject of crowning: Beauty contests are becoming a popular way to promote things. For instance, the winner of the Trigonometry Club's beauty pageant was crowned.... Miss Calculation. Tour Leader pageant winner: Miss Guided Encyclopedia Brittanica pageant winner: Miss Information How I Mark. I may mark differently to some other reviewers, some might see this as harsh, others may see it as fair. But here's how I look at it: 5 star - WOW. I want to go back and look forward to doing so. They delivered everything expected and more. The 'more' is normally about the service or attitude of the staff. 4 star - GOOD. They delivered everything I wanted and a bit more. I recommend them and would go back. 3 star - OK. They delivered what I expected, I would go back if I needed to, although don't currently plan on doing so. 2 star - Not very good. I didn't get what I expected and the service wasn't good. I don't recommend this place. I might get dragged back here, although will always try to avoid it 1 star - RUBBISH. Don't go there, I certainly won't go there again. I didn't get what I wanted, the people were unhelpful and I didn't enjoy it in any way.

The staff were welcoming and friendly from the moment we walked through the door, so much so, having just popped in for some liquid refreshment, we decided to book for dinner the following evening. The same greeting was waiting when we arrived. Pub food perfectly cooked. The portions were more than generous. After shopping in Newport we drove randomly to look for a pub for lunch and were running out of steam when we found this place. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere but it's worth a journey and let's face it nowhere is that far on the island. It's in a lovely little village and next to a stream where there is to be a duck race in a few weeks. The pub itself is full of character and there are several pleasant areas to eat outside, some next to the stream. The menu offers a good selection and there are specials each day. My wife had the steak and ale pie and it was an enormous slice packed with tender steak and plenty for a hungry horse but too much for my wife despite it being excellent. My daughter had the light bite version of fish and chips also excellent and I had a special which was Red Velvet prawns which turned out to be king prawns coated in beetroot tinted breadcrumbs. It came with a nicely dressed salad and good skinny fries and was good if not excellent. To follow my wife and daughter shared a sticky toffee pudding. The portion once again was large and both said it was the best they had ever eaten. Delicious toffee and a very light sponge and a little pot of custard on the side. They were good enough to leave me the last mouthful and it was extremely good. I had a lemon panacotta tart and without wishing to sound repetitive was extremely good. Coffee was good, service helpful, cheerful and timely, and the prices good. Desserts at just £5.50 are rare these days. Most of my reviews are necessarily negative so it's nice to be able to be so chipper!

Yesterday evening a group of 9 of us met for a mums catch up & food. When we arrived it was clear to see the pub was busy so we found our (thankfully) pre booked tables & waited our turn at the bar. We were served by a friendly tender whom answered enquiries about wine & between her & a colleague served us all quickly & with a smile despite being quite a flow of customers. As it turned out a couple of the original party of 12 were no longer joining us so we asked if we could swap to just the one bigger table & pop chairs on the end so we could all sit at just the one table. It was facilitated without so much as a moan, in-fact they were pleased to get a table freed up to accommodate more customers. We waited around 40 minutes for our food but we were told politely upon ordering that there was a wait. We enjoyed a drink & the ambiance of the pub whilst we waited. Food all came out together despite all mums ordering & paying separately & we had made a few swaps like garlic bread for skinny fries etc, all accommodated no bother. Food was hot, well presented & enjoyable & definitely good sized portions! Only two of us managed puddings & I highly recommend the raspberry cheesecake. We were checked on about 5/10 mins into the meal & the group were all happy. Thank-you for being so accommodating & welcoming, we all had a lovely evening. I highly recommend if you are after traditional country pub with decent food in a friendly quaint environment to give them a try. I’d just recommend to book or be happy to wait in the beautiful gardens till a table becomes free as they are very accommodating.

Read great reviews before visiting and booked for 7pm - my family, 5 adults 2 infants. Got our table and ordered drinks at the bar. Told no tabs ‘as too risky in case we ran out without paying’. Nice. Told later it’s the owners policy. Finally managed to order at 7h25. Food arrived at 8h20. It was average at best however the steak and ale pies were poor. Pastry was 1 inch thick and overcooked on the outside and under beneath. Steak was lean but tough. And it was all very dry. Obviously reheated. The seasonal vegetables in July were parsnips and carrots. Complexly under cooked. And red cabbage which frankly tasted odd. Spoke to the bar manager after the meal who said the comments would be passed on but anything more was out of his hands. Overall a very disappointing experience.

We visited here whilst on holiday in the area. We are a family of 7 (5 adults and 2 children). We arrived at 7 and waited nearly an hour for food which, although was a long time, we didn't mind because thought the food may be cooked to order. However when it arrived, it was very disappointing. Especially the steak pies. The meat was tough, pastry very very thick and not buttery, the vegetables were winter root veg which were hard and pale and red cabbage which did not taste nice at all. It was spiced but was not pleasant to eat. In our opinion the veg should have been seasonal greens - we are in th middle of July! We were also put off but the unfriendly welcome, having to pay upfront for all food and drinks because they don't trust people to pay. Just doesn't feel friendly. We really aren't picky people but felt so strongly that we needed to write a review when our comments which were made at the time, didn't feel like they were valued, merely being passed on to the chef/owners. There was no apology for the long wait for the food either. Very very disappointing evening!

Inedible food, rude manager who refused to refund the cost of a meal that I couldn't eat. I'd ordered sausage and mash and the sausages weren't just over cooked, they were burnt black. I think they were left over from breakfast. I showed the waitress who agreed they were badly burnt but the manager refused to refund saying its company policy to not offer refunds. They offered me a coffee or a pudding, we hadn't enjoyed any of the other meals enough to want a pudding. They would not refund. In the end we got the price of a soft drink refunded. Manager is rude. We definitely don't recommend and wouldn't return..no wonder it was virtually empty on a half term Sunday lunch time. Only 3 other tables and they had not had their meals when we left

Was brilliant. Then got took over. Nothing but a glorified restaurant of sorts. There was a great bar. But snobbery and new people turned it into a, I don't know what. Shame really, was a brilliant pub. Now sells home made beer at extortionate prices. Would not recommend to stay at either.

Congratulations on the smallest portion of chips on the Island, served in a bag so the vinegar drips out the bottom, so many better chippies on the Island. Won’t be back.
