What a wonderful lunch we had today. We were a party of 11 and everything was excellent. Lovely staff, good service, delicious food, reasonable prices, we were made very welcome. Aren't we lucky to have such a good eatery/pub on our doorstep. Not forgetting the wonderful deli attached, which also serves take away coffees and croissants Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Called over the phone for a reservation, we are a little fussy when it comes to dining out so I asked the lady who answered the phone if there was a garden for the kids to run around in, unfortunately her answer was no but she gave me some great advice and was super friendly which is why I wanted to write this review. Hopefully one day we will swing by, they sound like a great bunch! Thank you.

Called in here for dinner after a busy day touring the area as we were staying nearby. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and both the service and food were faultless. The kids had pizza and I had the curry and we all had empty plates as thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Would definitely visit again if in the area and would make no hesitation in recommending to others.

Picked this spot for lunch after a morning tour of Highclere Castle based on the menu and reviews. We are a group of four foodies from US and we were all very happy with everything we ordered. The soups, salads, curry, beets, beer, fish, and both styles of chips were excellent. Owner was charming. Highly recommend.

Came here for dinner and drinks. Our dog barked at someone out of the window and the owner came straight over and told him off. I wouldn't have minded if he had barked for a long time and was bothering other customers, but he hadn't even been barking more than a couple seconds before she was asking us if he was going to be like that for much longer. We asked what she meant and she said she was going to have a full restaurant and if he wasn't going to settle then we'd have to leave. This was all over the course of a couple of minutes, when we'd barely even sat down. We felt so unwelcome and unfairly treated, and won't be coming back. You enjoy your "full restaurant" that I doubt will stay full much longer with attitudes like that. P.S. If a dog is misbehaving, talk to the owners first, don't have a go at the dog who is doing what dogs do.

This pub is easily confused with similarly named pub(s) in the district. This may explain the few reviews posted? Our group of 6 all enjoyed very good service and meals from a varied menu. Good sized portions and quick service were experienced. We recommend.

First class Sunday lunch. We had to wait a while for our 2pm table despite having booked (so recommend you book an early time slot) as the restaurant was so busy. But this was more than made up for by the amazing food. The chicken was delicious and as for the side dishes they were superb! A really lovely sociable atmosphere for a lunch with friends.

Great little pub serving really nice food. We accidentally came across this after we had booked the Canarvon Arms down the road, who told us they stop serving food at 3pm (something they did not mention when I booked a table for 230pm). So we went in search of somewhere else and came across this little gem. The menu is nice, not over extensive, specials every day, the food is exceptional. I would definitely recommend here. The lady that was on the bar/serving everything else was so pleasant and such a great treat. If you are near Highclere Castle, this is a good place for lunch/dinner after visiting as it is three miles from the exit.

My elderly parents’ favourite restaurant. The food is always superb. The service fantastic. On two occasions when my Dad has been in Hospital, they have sent food parcels, contacted me to let me know there are concerns, arranged for my Mum to be picked up and brought in so they can make sure she’s eating. Then arranged to get her to the Hospital afterwards when the family haven’t been able to…. The list goes on. They really are wonderful people, who are more like family now. As a business they serve home grown, fresh, home cooked produce. It’s always tasty and beautifully cooked. The ambience in the restaurant is always relaxed and friendly. Can’t recommend them highly enough…… on every level possible!

Met a friend here for lunch. We both had pizza, which was deliciously thin and crispy, followed by a nice dessert of lemon posset. However the best part of it was the service. Our waitress was so friendly ,efficient and thoughtful, ensuring that she took our orders ahead of a large party who had also just sat down. When I asked for garlic oil, instead of the Chilli oil that was in the table, she arranged for some to be made up and brought out from the kitchen. Highly recommended.

The title of this review sums it up perfectly! We were staying nearby and booked ahead based on the previous reviews mentioned in this forum. We were met by Katie who is one side of a husband and wife team who run this independent pub and restaurant. So refreshing to find! The food is fabulous! So good we had the same meal two nights in a row. I had Nachos to start and the best well cooked Rib Eye Steak with the usual accessories and the perfect green salad (so fresh). My wife had the thickest Tuna Steak we have seen in ages. Apparently after talking to locals, the Red House is also famous for its Pizzas with cars arriving every 10 minutes to pick up their boxes. Katie was backed up by Maggie and Harriet and all three provided slick, smooth service of this lovely food, with smiles and humour. Overall a fabulous experience with great atmosphere! One tip, get there early as the car park fills up quickly and a three minute cab ride from somewhere VERY local cost £25 each way. SCANDALOUS!!!. Fixed price apparently! A true bargain if you lived in Sunderland!

One of the best meals we have had in a long time. We went last weekend for lunch and were warmly welcomed by friendly staff. We were allocated a table in a very picturesque sunny front garden with a wide array of flowers really giving off the impression that summer had arrived already. I had the duck confit which was beautifully cooked served with gratin potatoes and green beans accompanied by an exceptional red wine gravy. My father opted to try something new and went for the mushroom and haloumi burger served with sweet potato fries and house slaw which he thought was a fantastic combination in terms of the actual burger and the meal altogether. Service was prompt and overall it was a very pleasant dining experience, will definitely come again!

This was our first time but we couldn’t have felt less welcome. The woman that greeted us was rude and abrupt and just ruined the whole meal. No idea why she couldn’t just be welcoming. You lost customers today. Customer service training needed.

My Wife and I visited the Red House for fish and chips after visiting Highclere Castle in the morning. The Chilli and Lime batter option was a good choice. The fish chips and mushy peas were of very high standard.

We ate Sunday dinner here after a morning walk and really couldn’t fault it. The bar area is quite casual and relaxed, so was great for us muddy walkers (also allows dogs!). Lovely selection of wines, and delicious food. I ordered goats cheese salad for starter and my husband had tempura prawns, then came the roasts - lamb for him and venison for me, both beautifully tender and came with all the trimmings, the crispiest roast potatoes, flavoursome parsnips and rich gravy, perfect! We were too full for desserts but will definitely be heading back here again - thank you!

I popped in here on a Friday lunchtime, they were obviously very busy serving food but I was very disappointed in the service, it was curt to the point of being rude.

Great locally sourced food!! Steaks are some of the best we've had in the UK. Pork Belly not as fatty as most places.

delivery driver couldn't find my house so he parked nearby and I had to walk, which is mostly fine, but subway screwed up my order too, what was supposed to be one of the custom meatball marinara subs was just the extras I ordered and not the actual samwitch filling, hoping I get a refund but don't know how to report it and ask for one

Was in the middle of eating my lunch when I needed a drink of water. Went up to get a water came back to find my lunch had been taken away. Even though my coat and bag was on the back of the chair to show that there was still someone sat there. I asked the lad have you just taken my food and he said yes sorry then walked off. Bar was busy but only 2 people working behind it. So bit of a que.

This pub is highly recommended for a delicious Sunday roast - the Yorkshire puddings were exceptional and the online booking system was easy to use
