Me, my Son and Grandson popped in The Pheasant in Brill after a cold morning of clay pigeon shooting in the area. We parked next to the Pub by Brill Windmill. The Pub was very warm and cosy. The staff were friendly and welcoming as we went in. We got some soft drinks, ( I was driving!!) then got into the menu. Me Son had vegetarian option, me & Grandson had fish & chips. All reasonably priced too. Highly recommend and we will be going back in March. Paul, Connor & Danny-Boy ☘️🥃

Lovely warm welcoming pub. We stopped for food one afternoon, had an excellent Curry and desert. We were so impressed we returned for 2 further evening meals during our holiday. Only one thing I would like to add, very rural and as the driver I was disappointed with only one choice of non alcohol Lager/Beer.

We made a very last minute booking as we were walking in the area and decided to visit for lunch (four adults and one dog). We were shown to a fantastic table and were served quickly and efficiently. The large menu has plenty of choice - in fact we all struggled to pick what we wanted as so many of the dishes sounded delicious. There was also a board of scrummy sounding specials which made things doubly hard! The portions were extremely generous and we all commented how tasty the food was. When the server came to clear, all four plates were spotlessly clean signalling our enjoyment. We would definitely return to The Pheasant. The team are clearly working very hard to give diners an excellent experience and for a very fair price. Thank you to all involved - we will be back!

Visted with friends Saturday night. Traditiinal village pub in the lovely village of Brill. Busy with people eating, nice atmosphere and welcome. Good pub menu. Starters: garlic mushrooms & prawn cocktail, mains: steak, ham & egg, chicken curry & crab spaghetti, finished with sticky toffee & affogato. Food was plentyful and tasty, apart from the spaghetti that was lacking in crab. Great evening and we all had a enjoyable time.

I hadn't been to the Pheasant for a few years after a slightly disastrous dinner but I understood that it had recently re-opened and hope that things had change. I booked a table via email portal on their website as a recorded message on their phone line said that it didn't take incoming calls. I was a little surprised not to receive a confirmation of my booking but, with a plan B in mind, we ventured over to the Pheasant. Needless to say there was record of my reservation and after a few minutes, a rather fluster man showed us to a table. The place became very busy with mainly dinners and our order was promptly taken. The food was excellent - we all had the fillet steak (£25) which was cooked to perfection. The staff were efficient, service was speedy and apart from the issues with making the reservation, we all agreed that a return visit would take place in the near future. On a sunny day, this is the perfect place to visit with the famous Brill windmill a mere 100 metres away and spectacular views over Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Unfortunately, on our visit, it was raining heavily.

Finally managed to get down here for Sunday lunch and what a lovely pub in such a lovely country setting. Friendly staff, very comfortable and clean premises, and most importantly, maybe the best Sunday lunch (roast beef) I’ve ever had in any restaurant or pub. A huge portion which was more than I could finish (and that’s basically the first time that’s ever happened) and the beef itself was absolutely superb. Very reasonably priced too. 100 miles round trip for me, but will certainly go back again.

The Pheasant was midway for us to meet another couple for dinner. We had a great experience and we were pleasantly surprised by service, food and atmosphere. It’s got a nice cosy decor and is a mix of eatery and local pub so I can see that it could become noisy. All the food was tasty, plentiful and well presented. We also thought it was good value. The menu was extensive and I could have chosen anything. The pub had been given a makeover perhaps a couple of years ago and might benefit from a few areas of redecorating in the wcs but all good for a countryside pub. We will definitely visit again and support this local business that clearly thinks hard about how to best serve their customer.

There were so many negatives in our lunch there yesterday - too loud, poor menu, poor drinks delivery, hard peas and very expensive for what we had! We meet up with two friends a couple of times a year at a convenient pub/restaurant for a 3 course meal and a long natter and as Brill is about half way between us it seemed like a good location . . . .. but never again! In no particular order: Gin and tonic was served in a thick rimmed beer glass - that's a first - and a ginger wine was served as a sprits measure (very small) in a tumbler!! The noise in the place was deafening due to virtually no sound deadening as there were solid floors, tables, walls and ceiling making conversation near impossible. The menu selection was poor such that instead of our normal 3 course meals, 3 or us had just two poor courses and the other just the maim course. I was going to have soup as my starter but as the others didn't have soup on their menus (yes really) and didn't find the starters appealing we started, 50 minutes after ordering!!!! with a main course each - 2 fish and chips with under cooked peas, one scampi and chips and I had a small plate of 3 medium sized ordinary sausages and soggy mash with 3 battered onion rings in poor quality gravy (and a required decent meal when I returned home in the evening). The sweets were also underwhelming and the one coffee was too strong and all for a whopping bill of £118! OK, prices have gone up due to the economic time are are all having but in our view that was exceptional for what we had and as I said, never again!

Visited for lunch having pre-booked. Very quiet on arrival but very quickly filled up. Mostly couples, a few walkers and generally older clientele. Friendly staff, allowed to choose where we sat and specials quickly offered.Good choice of beers and a sensible menu with pub classics and some nice alternatives. All appeared freshly cooked and good standard of presentation without being pretentious. Had 3 courses, all of which were good. Lovely views across the valley and plenty of parking. Service is added on the bill, makes you reluctant to tip further but this seems to be the trend lately. Definitely recommended and we will be back.

We have moved to the village in the last 8 months and I’ve been coming here for over 30 years. In the last 18 months we have had some great Sunday roasts but last Sunday was the poorest to date. The nut roast was stodgy, the Yorkshire pudding was very dry and the gravy was tasteless. Our greatest disappointment was the lack of customer service as we complained. The waitress said she would mention it to the chef but it needed a little more than that. The sign of a well run place is how you deal with complaints and satisfied the customer. It made us feel that no one was really listening and doesn’t give us reason to come backThoroughly poor show!

We stayed here for one night prior to attending a family event the following day. Although we booked The Pheasant principally because of it's location (close to the Church in Brill) we loved our brief stay. Why? The friendliness of the staff. The superb three course dinner (all included in the price, choose anything on the menu!) The warm, snug double room with a lovely view in the morning over the green slopes, and finally the top-rate 'Full English' breakfast with all the trimmings. We stayed for two nights in July while visiting family in the village and taking in the Grand Prix at Silverstone. We were given a very warm welcome and taken to our room which overlooked the street and terrace. The room was large, comfortable and well furnished with everything we could need for our stay. There was a little bit of noise from the terrace but not enough to prevent us enjoying two good nights' sleep. We had only intended to eat in the restaurant on one evening but timing made this impractical and we ended up eating in the restaurant for both evenings. The food was pub food, promptly and pleasantly served. Early starts meant leaving before breakfast on both days but we were given a "packed breakfast" which was a very nice touch. We were here for lunch as 2 couples, nice place nice surroundings but food was very different, odd and mouldy. Beef stroganoff made with a chorizo sauce ( any cook let alone a chef knows stroganoff is a cream and mushroom sauce) while 2 of us did eat it, it was very odd and not very pleasant. That said my wife had steak and frites, this turned out to be a very nice fillet steak. Then we get to dessert, my wife and I shared a trio of desserts, it looked nice one profiterole, a piece of brownie and small piece of cheesecake. The profiterole had appeared to have moved while being carried from the kitchen, my wife picked it up put back on the chocolate sauce, as she did she saw on the part of the profiterole that was face down mold which then covered about half of the dessert. This whole dessert was returned to the kitchen and they didn't charge us for coffee or the one other dessert. I would suggest they need to sort out there chef/cook. Wouldn't recommended.

We visited on 2/4/19 for lunch . It was very quiet with only a total of 4 of us in the restaurant. My husbands meal ( Scallops £20 ) was acceptable but mine was dreadful !! I ordered the Veal Escalope that came with an onion and mushroom sauce and fries . The only decent part of the meal was the sauce !! The breadcrumbs were burnt and the meat was overcooked , tough and very difficult to cut . The fries were also almost burnt and the watercress on top of the meat was a poor attempt to hide the food !! I tried to eat the meat but had to give up . I asked the waitress to pass these comments on to the chef or manager but got no response whatsoever apart from the waitress saying "Sorry ". So £16 for some chips , watercress and sauce was very pricey !! We have eaten here in the past and had no problem but doubt we will return .

My wife and I stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the Oxford Gun Company following their recommendation. From the outset the staff were welcoming and laid back and greeted us upon arrival before quickly showing us to our room. The room was clean, warm and very comfortable with a massive bath and everything you could need for a stay away from home. The bar was well stocked and they even had their own branded beer. Prices were very reasonable. There was a great selection of daily specials complimenting the menu which offered something for all tastes. We both opted for a crevette and smoked salmon cocktail as a starter, which was fresh, well presented and totally delicious. Mains were Portuguese mussels and beef brisket served with macaroni cheese (by far the best I've tasted) respectively. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. For dessert we both opted for the homemade sticky toffee pudding which was again one of the best we've tasted. The second nights food was exceptional and completely surpassed anything we'd enjoyed in a long while with the "boeuf en croute" being the star of the show. I swapped my mash potato for another portion of macaroni cheese (as it was so amazing) which wasn't an issue at all.

Sunday lunch in this very comfortable pub with spectacular views and a windmill! The Pheasant had a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. We had the Sunday roast which was beef, a burger, as well as a cod dish from the specials board. The beef was delicious, the burger ample and the cod very tasty. The negative points - roast potatoes. They must have been cooked some time ago and reheated or kept warm for some time as they were leathery, I saw plates returning with everything eaten except the potatoes, surely the chef must pick up on this. Point two - the cod was served with the same roast potatoes and veg (minus the cauliflower cheese) as the roast, it was also quite a small portion, this for £18 I thought wasn't great. The Crème Brulee was excellent, as was the pear tarte tatin. The beer, Timothy Taylors Landlord, was in excellent condition and barring the cod and the spuds, the meal at £100 for four with wine and beer was good value. Would I return? well there's stiff competition in this neck of the woods so it may be a while before I try The Pheasant again.

I was there for dinner bed & breakfast for one night 10/1/19. Staff were friendly & welcoming & we were shown to our room & there was a complimentary drink too. There was a good selection on the menu & a specials board as well. Some dishes are cooked to order so expect some delay but this is pointed out on the menu & by the staff. The portions are generous & well cooked & served hot. If you're making a special journey I'd say book a table as it was quite busy, and this was a Thursday night! Anyway the table is yours all the time so there's no rushing you out of the door. The staff were very friendly & worked the floor well, very attentive but not in your face every 5 minutes, there was none of the 'Hi guys!' as seems to be the norm either, it was 'Hello sir....' etc.The room was large with a comfortable bed & a large bathroom with shower. We had a view over the local windmill. Breakfast, you fill in a card with your choice & give it to the staff the night before. There's a good selection to suit, we went for the full English, nice size portion too. All there meats are locally sourced which was nice, especially the sausages! It's not too far from Bicester Village outlet so if you want a shopping weekend choose this instead of a chain hotel.

All still on the menu, i chose the beef which was delicious, however the roast potatoes were really disappointing, you know when roast potatoes have gone cold and been left and then re-heated and taste awful, they were like that. Horrible, ruined the whole thing. The dessert menu had nothing appealing on it, which all 5 of us agreed with. Excellent food and drinks selection from another off the beaten track village pub. Situated next to Brill windmill, so have a look around the windmill and then call in the pub, what more could you ask for.

Faultless. Warm, accommodating, excellent service, friendly, food was outstanding, fresh ingredients, well cooked and prepared, extremely tasty, would be back again and again if it wasn't a couple hours drive away. A slice of rare perfection. Keep up the good work.

You can tell they're making a real effort at the Pheasant - The location was great, sitting next door to the Windmill with some lovely views of the countryside. The food was delicious, reasonably priced with healthy portions but not sacrificing quality for quantity. Very attentive service - We were really looked after by all the waiters / waitresses throughout.

I am many a chefs worst nightmare. Not only am I vegan...but I have intolerances on top of that. Usually I am prepared for a bowl of chips but the waitress started asking me questions and before I knew it the chef is at my table to check what I can eat.

We came here for lunch on our way back from Oxford. The Pheasant has an attractive restaurant with an interesting menu. I had one of the specials - seared Dexter brisket. The meat was very tender - I believe it had been cooked for 7 hours - with truffle mash and cauliflower fritters which were particularly delicious. My husband had ham, eggs and chips. His ham was very good quality. The portions are very generous.

We were staying in Oxford to visit the family and were taken to The Pheasant for dinner by my Brother. We were greated warmly and shown to our table straight away, the table was by a window looking down the hill towards Oxford and it was not untill later that we understood how good this table was. As Brill is on the top of a hill there was an old windmill just by the pub. We ordered 2 steaks, cold roast beef salad and I wanted to enjoy tradicional fish and chips, the fish was a fillet and no bones and the batter was light and crisp, perfect. The steaks were large and cooked as ordered and the roast beef was a very good portion. We ordered a bottle of Sauvinon blanc, light and crisp and great with my fish. To finish their sticky toffee pud was amazing. The bill came to 102 pounds which we thought was fine for the service and quality of the food. The sun was by this time setting and having the table by the window was great to sit there and watch the sunset.

Five of us came for a meal here after a day out elsewhere. Two had the fish and chips and the other three had different meals. The burger was excellent and the other meals were very good. One of the fish had very soggy batter ( the other was fine). We had to flag down a passing waitress to ask for vinegar which came in a small jug and was difficult to dispense but, overall, the meals and service were very good.

This pub has been superb. 9.5 out of 10 for its food and beer. On our last visit, of many, the menu had changed but not for the better. Before the food tasted of home cooked, natural food. Our recent visit was disappointing with what felt like a menu cutting corners. You will lose regular customers. Please stick to the quality.

The Pheasant is a superb place to eat and drink. We booked for 16 people and were not disappointed. The roast dinners were cooked to perfection and all arrived together. The beef was the best I'd ever tasted in a pub along with the trimmings and vegetables with was a lovely bowl of green beans, broccoli and peas. Extra vegetables, gravy and condiments were provided along with a warm smile throughout. We took a birthday cake and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for providing us all with a great lunch and making the day special.

We dined here on a Friday. I phoned up to book a table that morning as you can't book online and had no trouble getting a table. Pleasant ambience inside the pub. I had fish and chips (fish was enormous) and my husband had a chicken burger. We left room for dessert and I ordered the Eton Mess - again it was a very large portion and for me personally it had too much cream. I would have been happier with a smaller sized dessert and could not finish it. As it was a sunny evening I fancied a glass of wine but there were only 3 whites available by the glass and the rest were sold by the bottle.

We visited this amazing pub on a Saturday lunchtime, not only was the food absolutely amazing (Prawn Puri, Fish&Chips;, Steak and Ravioli ordered by the adults) the service was outstanding. Having lunch with a 5 yr old and a 2yr old can be challenging at times, the children’s food was a smaller version of the adults (we chose sausages and the kids chose what they wanted I.e beans chips or mash). Nothing was too much trouble and the finer details had been thought of (plastic cup for the kids, a tea spoon for my 2 yr old to eat the baked beans, smaller cutlery), essentially all the little things that as a parent you end up asking for during a meal had already been preempted. And as for the Eton Mess....amazing!! I am so pleased to have found this hidden gem, we shall we returning for sure

We hadn't planned to stop, but did, and we are jolly glad we did. The menu was small, but had plentiful vegetarian options. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed sitting out in the garden in the evening sun whilst we waited for our food. Our food did take quite a long time to arrive - but when it did it came with an apology for the length of time, and that they'd had a rush of orders at the same time, and that everything was cooked to order. Having sampled the food, I was happy for the wait. The food was wonderful. Salads were beautifully dressed, the triple cooked chips hot and crispy and the truffle ravioli was the dish of the day!

Beautiful sunny day so decided to go out for walk and arrived at The Pheasant for unexpected treat for Monday lunch. Very friendly, smiley greeting by member of staff on raised decking. Asked if we wanted to eat and if so seating in or out. Opted for table for two on raised decking with lovely views. Our drinks order was taken and promptly arrived with regular menu as well as specials board. Good choices available. Husband chose steak pie which we were told (also stated on menu) takes 20 minutes delay to cook. I chose salmon and prawn salad as a main, also available as a starter. Didn't notice how long we waited for meals to arrive, seemed minimal, enjoyed soaking up the sun , view and happy atmosphere. Both meals delicious!! Would definitely order again. Steak in pie was tender and tasty. Masses of salmon and prawns in lovely fresh salad. Desserts great too. Husband had bakewell tart I had chocolate brownie, best I've every had. Asked if chocolate brownie made in site, told was made by 17 year old chef, asked if I could have recipe. Chef, despite obviously being busy with lunch, kindly wrote out recipe and method having reduced quantities for domestic use and personally delivered to me. Can't stress how nice this brief meeting was but thank this young man very much. Perfect chocolate brownie at 17, what can this young man achieve in the future. All the staff we saw were friendly and efficient, so rare these days. A perfect lunch. Thank you.

We have been going to the Pheasant for years but it's changed hands and the food was not up to the usual standard. My husband had the Waterperry lamb which was so tough and fatty and almost impossible to cut. I saw another man sawing at his lamb too!!! My scallops were not very good either, the membrane was still attached and they were wrapped in thick bacon not Parma ham as the menu stated. It was all very disappointing. Sorry, but we won't be back.

We were looking for somewhere for a light lunch on a Sunday and came upon The Pheasant at Brill, I last visited this pub some 25 years ago and barely recognised the now light spacious interior. The views over the countryside are great and I'm sure it's lovely in the garden on a warm day. Our waitress was lovely as was my roast sirloin bap with fries and onion gravy (served in a separate jug). I can recommend the ginger sticky toffee pudding too. I look forward to trying a roast dinner sometime, booking is advised,We will be back!
